Reviews for The Barley Field
Review 1:Traffic noise on street side. Heating couldn't be adjusted in room.
Review 2:Hearty breakfast. Obliging staff. Teasonably close to centre of Waterford. Easy parking for car.
Review 3:No bad experience as everything was great
Review 4:Would like to thank Paul and his team for an excellent stay also Catherine she is always 100 miles an hour she is a credit to the company Paul runs his team with a great front line support and always there when you need Ray and Jason are great lads and very obliging I will be back for sure thank you all for everything and see you all soon God bless and merry Xmas
Review 5:The room was very small. The toilet wasn't spotlessly clean & when you are paying to stay the bathroom should be spotless. Glasses that were in the bathroom were also unclean.
Review 6:Very basic accommodation, the bedroom was tiny as was the bed. I'm pretty small & my feet were hanging out over the bed. The room was cold too.
Review 7:Check in relaxed and quick. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Atmosphere in the bar was friendly and had a live band. Had a pleasant night there. Bar staff were excellent even ordered in a pizza and delivered it to the room for us . Very pleasant stay
Review 8:staff were very friendly and accommodating to me . I have stayed here before when It was Rice guest house would defo stay again. great location next to my friends house and town centre.
Review 9:I will say that there weren't any restaurants in the immediate vicinity, however, there were take-away shops within a block and they are more than ok with you bringing food into the pub to eat.
Review 10:They have parking in the adjacent community center, which gets locked up at night, so it was nice not to worry about on street parking. Another plus is that, because of the location of the hotel, the clientele was largely local or down from Dublin on business. It wasn't swimming with tourists (like some of the other hotels I stayed at) so I got to have great conversations with some great folks. The staff was very nice and accommodating (especially when I couldn't figure out how to unlock my door) I would definitely recommend this hotel to someone who would rather have a more local experience than a fancy 5 star, tourist laden one :)
Review 11:Only one issue with booking through another source, when I arrived I was only booked in for one night. Issue was quickly resolved.
Review 12:Lovely rooms, very short walk to the very centre of town, I enjoyed my stay.
Review 13:Bed was lumpy could do with a new mattress. Shower door didn't close properly and so I had to dry the floor after I showered.
Review 14:Good value for money and close to the town centre. Staff were very helpful
Review 15:Craning my neck to see the TV in the room, tv was high up on the right side of the bed
Review 16:Lovely pint.Bar, reception and breakfast staff were great and knowledgable
Review 17:The room was very cold, the windows were not good, very old with expection of the bathroom. The worst the mattress, terrible!
Review 18:Good place. Low price, nice pub.
Review 19:Had go up and down the stairs several times to get things that should've been in the room eg hairdryer, iron. Remote control didn't work - was given the wrong one so trip to reception again. No telephone system.
Review 20:Great shower!
Review 21:Great staff. Great pub! It was fun to be in the pub during the football match with the locals. I love the local feel versus the antiseptic feel of the large hotel bars.
Review 22:There were coolers on flat roof on flat roof beneath our window and the fan rattled the housing all night long. This made sleep virtually impossible
Review 23:It was close enough to all city facilities
Review 24:The room was very basic and small. Parking not on site. Breakfast not included in price..
Review 25:The bed was very comfortable. Plenty of pillows. The en suite was spotless.
Review 26:Telly not working I got the staff to hav a look but no improvement ,also too far up hill out of town
Review 27:The girl t reception was very nice and it was clean the bed was comfortable
Review 28:The woman at reception was very pleasant and helped me with everything. Room was spotless and comfortable. Rate was great considering I booked the morning I was staying.
Review 29:GH is located in a rather dilapidated area about 10' uphill walk from quayside and town centre. (NB: that doesn't imply an unsafe part of town!) Ground-floor fire exit at foot of main stairs was badly obstructed by several large golf bags - but obstructed fire exits are regrettably common in Ireland!
Review 30:Good value for money guest house located over a pub. Comfortable, clean room. Staff very friendly and helpful. Lively music session in the pub on the evening I was there - I understand there's one every Wednesday.
Review 31:car park facilities especially when it's raining, disappointed that bar food wasn't available I don't know Waterford and felt nervous walking around on my own
Review 32:Basic but very clean, staff extremely welcoming and helpful
Review 33:I didn't like the dust and poor maintenance in the bedrooms and cheap linen, and the fact that our linen wasent changed over our 3 nites stay
Review 34:I liked the friendly staff, and the bar was very inviting and cosy
Review 35:Terrible pillows, wifi cut out on the last morning so we couldn't book our next night
Review 36:Clean bathroom, great large breakfast, wifi was strong, good beds
Review 37:First room I was given wasn't cleaned. Second room no plugs near bed for charging phone. Woken up at 5am by guests in next room having a loud chat.
Review 38:Only downside is the taxis pulling up outside the hotel and waiting for customers, leaving their cars running and was after midnight before I could get to sleep....car parking could be a little more secure it's being used as a shortcut
Review 39:We were woken before 8am by builders using heavy equipment, no warning of this from the staff either. Disappointed.
Review 40:The place was easy to find and within walking distance of the main street. The staff were friendly and the place was lovely.
Review 41:Hotel has no lift. Very uncomfortable single beds (double bed was ok). We toured Ireland and stayed in 5 different hotels (all in the same price range). I am sorry to say this was the most unimpressive of them all.
Review 42:Location
Review 43:We requested a quiet room but were given a room next to the street where traffic noise was loudest. Im not sure if this was an oversight by staff or they just didn't bother to read our request
Review 44:Location. Close to city centre
Review 45:Nothing like the listing, Barley Fields is basically a very noisy, tiny, dirty, overpriced backpackers room sitting above a bar. Staff were gruff and disinterested, parking inaccessible, when we went for (what looked like a very ordinary) breakfast we were told it was extra. We didn't bother, suggest you don't either.
Review 46:Not really applicable! Though the photographer who took the shots for their listing is a master technician.
Review 47:Entrance porch littered. They do not have private parking as one is led to believe on web. They use the facility of a neighbouring car park which is not private.
Review 48:Breakfast was ok.
Review 49:The bed was small and very uncomfortable. It's springs were all over the place and hollows everywhere. Need replacing.
Review 50:Very friendly staff, great location. Only a few minutes walk from the height of activity. Nice bar and food.
Review 51:Window lach broken I couldn't close it their was noise from the road traffic in early morning door a bit tricky to unlock seemed stiff.
Review 52:Comfortable bed .room basic but nice. Could use the bar in the evenings .b&b close town centre easy to walk to .secured parking near by. staff very helpful and friendly
Review 53:Stayed in two different rooms, both were too noisy to allow a decent nights sleep. Beds in both rooms were uncomfortable. Cheap linen, pillows and duvets.
Review 54:The location is on a busy road, so it was noisy all night with traffic. Also, the bar attached to the B&B had entertainment which began at 10:30 pm and went on until midnight or so. We could clearly hear every word the singer said/sang making getting to sleep difficult.
Review 55:Staff was helpful in getting our heavy luggage up stairs. Also, they gave us a room on the first floor instead of the third because of our heavy luggage.
Review 56:poor standard of live music directly below our bedroom, then till 2.00am the sound of scraping chairs and tables !! then finally-silence- till traffic outside started about 6.00am. Bed springs almost sticking out of mattress-this mattress needs replacing.run down On internet Barley field advertised a restaurant, so expected to buy an evening meal there-it proved very difficult locally for us to find somewhere to eat...
Review 57:friendly helpful staff, very good breakfast, clean place.
Review 58:Inn was pract empty yet we were placed on third floor and had to lug all our cases up there and we are senior citizens.Inn advertised as having food, there was none available, only breakfast in the morning. The carpets in the bedroom were stained and the furniture in the room was old, chipped and worn. There appeared to be a shortage of staff and the two that were there were not professional at all.We booked for two nights and left after the first night.our bedroom window was directly over a refrigeration plant for the school next door so we had excessive noise the whole time.
Review 59:Leaving the Inn
Review 60:Somebody pinched the clothes hangers/no iron. Luckily I'd brought my clothes on hangers so didnt bother me. Missed breakfast as notice said finished 1 hour earlier.
Review 61:Friendly staff, clean, comfortable room, cosy bar and good entertainment and car parking facilities. Plenty of other bars and eateries nearby.
Review 62:The room could use more cleaning: there's dust inside drawers and carpet needs to be hovered. The head of the bed should be secured so it doesn't bang on the wall every time you rest your back on it.
Review 63:Convenient location. The breakfast was tasty. Personnel very friendly and helpful.
Review 64:The bill was asked to be paid in advance. The conditions were definitely poor. The room was fithy and dilapidated. The WiFi connection was rather weak.
Review 65:Hotel is very nice but poorly maintained. Bathrooms are new. Matress very old. Small details in cleanliness that could be improved with a little bit more care (i.e spiderwebs, dust)
Review 66:Location is convenient
Review 67:As I had been booked in for two nights, the room was not serviced after the first night, coffee sachets not replaced. The biggest problem, no where to hang up my clothes in the room.
Review 68:Very private and central location.
Review 69:Unfortunately the mattress was VERY uncomfortable. It was new but the springs were so close to the surface I had to sleep on top of the duvet, folded twice for a double layer. Apart from that it was lovely.
Review 70:Great location, friendly staff and really nice breakfast.
Review 71:There was a smell of cigarettes in my room I found the water from the shower plentiful but difficult to adjust
Review 72:Terffic bed - great night's sleep Very friendly and helpful staff I felt very safe here as a solo traveller
Review 73:No bad experience but for those that prefer to be further away from the bar noise ask for a room on the 3rd floor. The noise depends on if they have music or not. We had a great stay there
Review 74:Great price, lovely staff, yummy breakfast, comfy beds and clean and tthere's a bar downstairs.
Review 75:-inconvenient parking -noise from the street -was not given a receipt for company records -smell of spilled beer in room
Review 76:-nice breakfast -big room and shower room
Review 77:Late noise not good when u have a young child with you as he was tired thr next day. Stair way needed a hoover and overall it needs a paint. Sausages were youck.
Review 78:Stay was ok some noisey guests slamming and banging doors at all hours. Room was comfortable the door lock wasnt the best needs fixing. Breakfast was basic sausages were not nice could do with useing a new brand. Good location.
Review 79:Location really good. Free and secure parking. Manager really friendly and helpful. Close to city centre and nice bar with friendly locals. Would recommend.
Review 80:The night was very noisy as they had new year's party, so couldn't sleep till it was over and that was nearly around 3 Am
Review 81:My overall stay there was very good. The staff were friendly
Review 82:As this guest house is next to the pub, the music live started at 11:00 pm with really loud sounds. It really annoyed me not to sleep. Also as in the morning electricity broke down, I couldn't wash my face with water and have breakfast with hot meal.
Review 83:No food or alcohol rule in the room wasn't clear before I stayed. Otherwise, everything was fine. Bit noisy but it's near the city centre so that's expected. Maybe the parking situation could be explained better on website.
Review 84:Great value and close to city centre. Very pleasant staff. Room decor of a high standard. Wifi great.
Review 85:It is an older hotel above a bar (hence the name "Barley Fields", which wasn't a big deal, but the room was on the main street (no description of that detail on Bookings.com. The amenities were low compared to other hotels for the same cost I was paying at other hotels. The description of Wi-Fi and Satellite T.V. were kind of close, yes the Barley Fields had them, but the Wi-Fi signal only worked in the bar / lounge area, and the satellite T.V. was not working in the room (and it must be an Ireland thing, I could only get 9 local channels. I also asked about the "free parking", Barely Fields informed me it was just around the corner, when I drove a block away, the area they told me was locked, I tried to call them, I my phone was not able to go through, saying it was blocked (I don't know, I used it and talked just prior to checking in. I'm just glad that I had only intended to stay one night, For a quick stay over it was OK, but wouldn't do any extended visit. I mainly blame Bookings.com.
Review 86:The staff seemed courteous, they answered my questions (but only my direct questions, no elaboration). It was close to the Waterford City Center and I could walk to anything in good time. The shower was about the best shower I had in Ireland, it had a lot of pressure to it.
Review 87:Unable to sleep due to noise. loud talk banging doors etc woke me every hour. It Stopped around 7am.
Review 88:Close to town centre, good breakfast, good value for money.
Review 89:room felt cold when we arrived but as we were goin out it didnt matter was really cosy when we got back later
Review 90:good value for a nights stay staff friendly and helpful great breakfast next morning great to be able to make your own tea and toast quiet location off main streets
Review 91:No lift Far from center No restaurant nearby
Review 92:Great pub Friendly, helpful staff Excellent range of take awqys in the same street Enormous bedroom One of the best scrambled eggs ever tasted
Review 93:The ouletboxes are far from the bed, but is just a minor detail. You still get to charge your electronic devices on the room's tables
Review 94:The service provided by the people is wonderful, and all the amenities are fantastic.
Review 95:The room was really cold in the afternoon, they switched the heating on only at night. There is live music during the weekend until late.
Review 96:It was basica but clean and cozy. The owner was very chatty and pleasant. Decent full Irish breakfast.
Review 97:None
Review 98:Free Secure Parking nearby. Wifi was strong. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast made to order was great, more options because they have a full restaurant kitchen and bar. Map available of downtown.
Review 99:Wifi didn't seem to work so had to use phone as hotspot.
Review 100:It only cost me 40 euro with breakfast so very happy with that.for pricerange it's good for one or two nights
Review 101:We stayed at the wknd street noise was unbearable n music from bar audible from room..little sleep got other guests noisey comin back to room after bar downstairs Double room booked fr couple..one glass in bathroom.lack of towels.bed linen not changed till sun stayed fri to mon.after we requested it.needed to ask for more towels.
Review 102:Location good Breakfast most enjoyable Bar down stairs Nice shower Bed comfy Polite staff
Review 103:Very little... Only little fault was no remote for the tv but it wasnt relavent to our stay. Also there wasnt a hairdrier in the room but that may have been noted in the booking but i forget..
Review 104:Helpful staff. City centre location. Spotless rooms.
Review 105:A little difficult to find with Google Maps
Review 106:It was generally a very nice place to stay. I was unfortunate enough to have a personal problem, but the staff were extremely willing to help.
Review 107:it was the traffic being in the front when you are going to work at 730
Review 108:good location great breakfast and it early i was heading to work
Review 109:A bit noisy on sat night It's a pub so best join them
Review 110:Good price for a good location Friemdly and helpful staff and good breakfast with flexibility on when to eat
Review 111:Fire escape not up to standard. Could recommend it if fire escape was better.
Review 112:Room was clean our request was granted bathroom was up to date towels were plentifull tea and coffee facilities were good.
Review 113:The hotel is set in a very noisy location ... If situated at the front of the building the noise levels are high even with windows closed
Review 114:It was very basic but clean
Review 115:Room up in the eaves was a bit cramped. Breakfast was surprisingly mostly self-service - make your own tea, toast though didn't have to wash up. Service was basic. A little more charm here would make a huge difference. Parking is a bit away but safe enough.
Review 116:Friendly welcome and good entertainment in the bar at night. It is only 10 minutes walk from the waterfront in the town. It is perfectly serviceable and reasonably priced.
Review 117:Very Basic Room. Needs upgrading Expensive enough as breakfast was not included. Parking is in a local church.
Review 118:Proximity to the city centre. Friendly Staff
Review 119:Saturday night has live music in the bar and noise levels outside kept waking me up. But, this was the Saturday night with major festivals in town.
Review 120:Staff, comfort and value for money.
Review 121:Noisy if your room is above the pub or the restaurant. Moving tables very early for breakfast!
Review 122:Very nice breakfast and good location. Car park safe and closed. Rooms are clean and bathroom very nice. The mattresses could be better but overall nothing to say about the room.
Review 123:Nothing
Review 124:From my friendly arrival and check-in to the delicious breakfast the next morning, the staff went out of their way to make my (too-short!) stay the best possible. Wonderfully comfortable bed, and even though the room looked out on to the main street, it was wonderfully silent. I had the best nights' sleep here during my entire trip to Ireland! And very comfortable check-in and check-out times. Will return!
Review 125:Parking is in the church car park next doo and whilst secure [we travelled by motorbikes] its not connected to the hotel No food in the evenings so we used the Chinese takeaway across the road - grabbed food - welcome to eat it in the bar
Review 126:Hotel was clean and tidy - basic but accomodating. Reception is through a door from the bar - receptionist is the barman - he copes well :-) Essentially this is a pub with rooms over - does what it says on the tin - made to feel welcome
Review 127:The new room was a family room with a double and two singles. The room was small with little room to move, more suited to a double with a single bed if necessary Room smelt strongly of smoke Breakfast was very slow.
Review 128:Gentleman that checked us in was very nice and friendly. Our booking had been mixed up and we were allocated a twin instead of a double. He rectified this very quickly. Breakfast was tasty( see negativities)
Review 129:Breakfast staff seemed to be having a bad day....lacked friendliness. Door key a struggle to use. No lift for suitcases....but that is minor.
Review 130:Reception staff...extremely helpful & friendly. Wifi superb.Room was clean & comfortable. We would visit again.
Review 131:The only downside is the decor, could do with some updating.
Review 132:The Staff were excellent, especially Claire Marie, Very helpful, attended to our needs. The full Irish breakfast was excellent , bed really comfy and plenty of hot water.Would definitely come back again. Cheers everyone
Review 133:The staff were extremely friendly and nice and claire our receptions was awesome I would most definitely recommend this to my friends family and everyone I know best place in Waterford to stay fact
Review 134:Our room was smalll and had 1 double and 2 singles so there was no room to move.
Review 135:The breakfast was very nice! Well cooked bacon and the eggs were cooked to perfection.
Review 136:Room is basic enough. Funishings are in reasonable condidtion. Breakfast could be better. Glasses for OJ were tiny. Sausages weren't tasty.
Review 137:Its was fine for a 2 star guesthouse.. Breakfast was just OK.
Review 138:Again, no top sheet. I sleep hot so prefer a top sheet as well as a duvet
Review 139:There was a bar downstairs, with friendly bar staff. Breakfast was good, I had the best sleep I'd had in my travels so far Good location with safe parking nearby
