Reviews for The Fitzwilton Hotel

Review 1:Car parking was dreadful; no breakfast availability until 8am is bad, no option to have cold despite being offered, I was leaving at 7am. If I had known that when booking I would have booked bed only - so cost of breakfast was completely wasted.

Review 2:The night porter was really helpful with car park spaces and getting check-in sorted as I arrived about midnight. Did promise me the option of cold breakfast and tea which didn't happen (I was leaving too early for breakfast)

Review 3:Staff were very friendly and the hotel was located very close to the city centre and convenient to the train station but was still in a quiet location.

Review 4:Great location, near to train station, very friendly and efficient staff. Bar food offers varied menu, food was lovely at a good price. Hotel is very clean and comfortable.

Review 5:Water in the shower was lukewarm at best, my only negative.

Review 6:Everything. Very spacious and comfortable. Very friendly staff and great location. Will be staying in the penthouse suite again that's for sure.

Review 7:Stains in the bedroom on the carpet floor, lots of scuff marks on the walls, unpleasant smell in the corridor

Review 8:While there were some thing that werent up to scratch, the location was ideal and the staff very pleasant

Review 9:I found the family room was small. Narrow. And the adults " double " bed was no more bigger then a single bed. I would of been happier if the bed was bigger. It was Prob my only complaint.

Review 10:Breakfast was fantastic. And staff were very accommodating and friendly.

Review 11:The two women behind the desk- upon arfival and check in we were not made feel one bit welcome. Whilst checking us in the woman doing so appeared very distant, staring into space, avoiding eye contact- this was blatantly obvious & very rude. I have stayed in The Fitzwilton a number of times and the staff have always been great, just this one time I was given a bad feel. If you are planning on staying in The Fitzwilton for Leisure purposes around this time of year, be advised that most places in the city are not open and the facilities in the hotel are limited.

Review 12:The waiters and waitresses both at breakfast and in the bar for dinner were lovely and polite people- the dinner in the bar was exquisit- the cod & sirloin steak especially. There was a good atmosphere in the bar when the football was on television atter about 8pm. Our room was basic and simple it couldn't have been better, the wifi was fast, the television had a variation of channels, the rooms and bathrooms were very clean, bed was comfy, water was always hot no matter what time of day, rooms were the perfect temperature- all round good!

Review 13:Hotel comes with car parking, however there are actually very few spaces. Luckily I managed to get a space on the street.

Review 14:Staff were very helpful and breakfast was very good.

Review 15:However I wasn't really happy with the food in the restaurant, for the price I paid I would have expected better.

Review 16:I really liked the bedroom and the staff in the hotel.

Review 17:The parking onsite wasn't great. The breakfast was very dry.

Review 18:It was a great location close to a lot of pubs. The staff were friendly and the receptionist was very welcoming.Would stay again.

Review 19:Friendly staff. Ample parking. Close to water and town centre we could walk everywhere. Breakfast and evening menu was lovely. Room was comfortable although matress needs to be changed.

Review 20:The breakfast staff were not very helpfull and we ended up not getting our tea, told everything is over there!. the carpets are not very clean.

Review 21:The breakfast was lovely only the lad on duty not very happy to be there!! Rooms need updating a little. Bar staff were lovely there was four of us and they were very nice to us all.

Review 22:On arrival the receptionist was otherwise occupied, cold and not very interested. I felt forced to sign a non smoking agreement and although I had no problem doing this I did not like the way I felt forced. I was also asked for a debit card for security and this was never mentioned when booking, one of the reasons I use booking.com is because I prefer not to use a card. The hotel was too warm and uncomfortable. The cleaning staff hoovering and banging doors early in the morning. It's safe to say I would never return or recommend this hotel to anyone.

Review 23:To be honest not much to like about this hotel except the departure

Review 24:We were on 4th floor could hair rain on the roof!! Facing the road so made it noisey as well.

Review 25:Good location, very friendly staff. Breakfast and food in general was brilliant.

Review 26:the lady in the breakfast restaurant was rude. Stared at us while eating. Everytime we went went to the buffet to top up our orange juice she was watching to see what we were getting. We felt so uncomfortable also Had my 8 month old eating some scrambled egg in a high chair and she kept walking past tutting and shaking her head as he was making a bit of a mess (which I cleaned myself) such a pity as it was a stunning hotel but don't think I could stay there again.

Review 27:Reception staff fantastic, room was lovely, breakfast was nice.

Review 28:Having arrived at 1830, I was told that I could have a bar-supper if I was quick - as it would only run until 1900. The dining-room had been booked by a private party. The folder in the bedroom with 'helpful guidelines' was so riddled with spelling and grammatical mistakes as to make a Junior Cert student blush; rather insulting to a visitor. Only Irish TV? Very poor.

Review 29:The exceptionally helpful and charming Louise at Reception.

Review 30:Overall all our stay was great just no entertainment on bites and been weekend would of been nice to have some on one of the evenings

Review 31:We were away for our daughters birthday and on arrival in our room was ballon hot chocolate etc she was trilled Taught this was lovely set a great start to our stay

Review 32:We tried to book the meal that was on offer ,we where told we couldn't as there was on Xmas party might on and we would have to pay extra to go to it

Review 33:Main light in bedroom did not work .shower was cold for our entire stay. Phone in bedroom did not work. We did complain to reception about the problems and nothing was done

Review 34:Staff at reception very helpful

Review 35:The rooms are in need of refurbishing. If the same attention was put into the rooms as the lobby and restaurant, all would be good. However, the rooms are quite "tired" and I don't feel the photos and descriptions on booking.com are a fair representation of what you actually get for the money. Somewhat disappointed in that aspect.

Review 36:Very friendly staff, although they seemed to be somewhat short a few. Check in was tied up with the front desk employee on the phone for a number of minutes while 3 separate parties waited to check in. Service was also slow in restaurant. That being said, the staff were very, very friendly and kind when speaking to them. Seems like they just needed a few more on board.

Review 37:The only dislike I had was the parking was limited and very small car park for such a big hotel

Review 38:I loved everything about the hotel it's was gorgeous and very comfortable

Review 39:Shower a bit hit and miss never too hot but temp a bit low for me also ran hot and cold intermittently

Review 40:Private parking good food in met bar no hassle check in /check out very friendly staff

Review 41:Parking is a nightmare myself and my wife had to park on the other end of city and had to walk to hotel in rain with our bags. next time we will stay in hotel with enough parking

Review 42:Had no problems.

Review 43:Staff were very pleasant, had the 3 course meal in the restaurant where we feel we got value for money and the food was excellent and the staff friendly

Review 44:Very small bed! And the fact that I got a nice 40 euro parking fine as the hotel parking is very limited and very poorly laid out and didn't realise that I was parked in a pay and display spot...?

Review 45:Staff were nice

Review 46:The breakfast was buffet style, plenty of choice but the food was only luke warm.

Review 47:The bar food was delicious, good portions and good value for money. Room comfortable and clean.

Review 48:You can hear everything from the rooms next to you and also the carridor Not sound proof at all. View wasn't the best , was facing in to someone's apartment

Review 49:Lovely hotel and staff .. food was amazing both in restaurant and room service

Review 50:I did not like when we arrived people had been asked if they would like smoking or non smoking as I signed my stay I did not get asked if I would like smoking or non smoking as I did not see where it said no smoking in rooms. And 10 mins into our stay we got fined €150 with out known it was going to get taken out of our account . We wer not happy with it all and don't plan to ever stay with yous again.

Review 51:I liked the location

Review 52:No access from underground car-park to the hotel, other than going outside in the rain. Lobby was very small and not suitable for small children. The Family room we had booked was not adequate and was not ready at the scheduled time. Room was grubby. External fan & wind whistling through the window and vents kept the family awake most of the night, we had no choice but to check out after 1 night. Some staff very unhelpful. Will not return.

Review 53:Location was very good & central

Review 54:Wait staff were terrible. Heard one sigh loudly when we handed back a dirty dish. Waiting 10 min for bill, then another 10 handing back. Pass remarkable about how I ate meal. Place quiet. But staffimpossoble to find

Review 55:Good size room, comfortable bed, great towels, reception staff were great

Review 56:Nothing.

Review 57:Most friendly and helpful receptionist ever, so lovely and great first impression of hotel. Couldn't have been more sweet, giving me directions to a function I was attending along with a helpful map, ensuring parking in car park and facilitating an early check in. If nothing else had gone right with hotel this lady ensured I would have left with a good impression. Fortunately everything about the hotel was exceptional, and I don't give praise lightly. It was clean, stylish, roomy with excellent service in both bar where we had lunch and restaurant where we had dinner. Food was beyond good and great value for money and service in both places attentive and efficient. Room itself was well equipped and comfortable. I could go on but suffice it to say I was very pleased with my stay, and although short and sweet this time, I hope to be back for a longer visit in the future.

Review 58:The breakfast selection wasn't that great and the car park was so discrete I didn't find it!

Review 59:The bedroom was spacious and very comfortable. We heard absolutely no street noise despite being facing onto a busy road. The bar was also quite nice.

Review 60:Cocktail menu on the bar is too predictible a little more colour and pizazz needed

Review 61:Great staff that know the true value of customer service special mention for reception and the restaurant first class service, the evening menu was varied and the food exceptional the coffee creme brulee was divine

Review 62:The noise was a problem didn't get a good nights sleep. Heard a lot of doors banging outside in the car park and in the corridors.

Review 63:The room was very spacious and the staff were very helpful

Review 64:Beds where old and squeaky and the pillows where terrible, bad nights sleep.. Black mould all around the shower tiles, toilet flush nearly broken, no air suction in bathroom, are room looked worn out..

Review 65:location... Greeting staff very helpful..

Review 66:The restaurant was under staffed and there wasn't enough options on the menu.

Review 67:Reception staff was top quality as well as the room comfort and facilities.

Review 68:Car parking limited, we had to use public car parks and walk up. No biscuits or hot chocolate in the rooms. Bar tables not wiped and furniture tired. At breakfast staff did not lift dirty dishes as we moved onto next course. Selection at breakfast was basic.

Review 69:Clean and functional, if it had been 3* I probably would have been happy enough, but at 4* I expected more style and luxury.

Review 70:Some mold in the bathroom, needs to be better cleaned, particularly back of bath and under sink stopper

Review 71:Central location, very comfortable and friendly staff, Fair pricing

Review 72:When i arrived there was no parking so we had to park away from the hotel. Bathroom was dirty. Shower curtain brown at bottom and awful smell when hot water hit it. Plug in sink had browne gunge on back of it. It was a Bank Holiday weekend and the 2 piece band added no atmosphere at all. We planned on staying in hotel all evening but left and went to a different hotel for a drink. I never feel like a break is not worth the money but we just wanted to leave and not stay. Was very hard to hand over €139 for our experience. Met another couple in the lift and they felt the same.

Review 73:To be honest, not very much. I never usually give bad reviews.

Review 74:if you like a really warm hotel this is the one for you!!!!! had to turn off the heating in the room and leave the window open.A wonderful hotel on a cold winters day

Review 75:absolutly wonderful stay in your hotel.perfect location and very very friendly staff. we will be back again for sure.

Review 76:Car park is a tight squeeze and poorly lit. Be careful!

Review 77:The receptionist was a breath of fresh air after a long day ... and was as bright again the following morning when I was down for breakfast. A true professional. My request for a quiet room at the back and the top of the house was fully respected and my room was perfect and peaceful.

Review 78:Very clean reception was manned with people who could speak excellent English also they allowed me to park car in staff car park as other was full up there was common sense used on this issue thanks

Review 79:Little things take away from the 4* rating: 2 main beers not available in the bar (Bud & Carlsberg)1 pillow per person, no toiletries except shower/body shampoo, no tissues etc. Tasteless buffet breakfast

Review 80:The staff were very friendly

Review 81:We were happy with everything

Review 82:The staff were lovely. Couldn't be more helpful and the room was so comfortable . We had dinner in the bar which was excellent . Will return again

Review 83:Excellent staff who made me feel very welcome from the beginning to end!!!Would recommend your hotel to anybody.Very cute barmaid on the saturday night!!

Review 84:Car park is ridiculously small. Hotel should not advertise that it has a car park when it only holds about 12 cars. Room was extremely warm.

Review 85:Good size room. Had a room at the back which was much quieter than a room at the front which I stayed in last time.

Review 86:we were getting a bath and there was no bath stopper we rang down reception and she said someone was n the way up a half an hour passed by no one came near the room rang back down reception she said he was on the way up 25 minutes passed by we had to go down to reception still no stopper 15 minutes later we finally got one , bad sleep beds were not comfortable , 2 towels in the bathroom the radiator kept making noise all night long. looked for a top room floor with sea views 5 days before hand and was let down with no views, also the parking was ridiculous we had to pay 4e to park at the quays the hotel parking as ridiculous.

Review 87:hotel was very clean

Review 88:Room was basic, very small, beds were tiny. Expected a lot more from a 4 star hotel. Our only view was the back of the building.

Review 89:The receptionist was so inviting and friendly, made us feel so comfortable and helped us out so much and gave advice on where would be good places to go for our age group

Review 90:I didnt like the breakfast obviously lying around from 7am so when you were having your breakfast at 9am all the food was like a rock.certainly was not a 4 star hotel it was more like 3 stars.Who ever gives out the stars needs to revisit this hotel.

Review 91:The receptionist

Review 92:Being woke up at 6 in the morning from coaches and bin lorries and the shower was going from hot to cold every few seconds

Review 93:The staff were all really friendly and helpfull from check in to check out

Review 94:Absolutely no hot water on our first morning. Light bulb gone in main light in room which made finding anything in the wardrobe impossible. This was reported on the first night but not attended to during our 3 night stay.

Review 95:Good location. Nice bar food and good service.

Review 96:No hot water in the morning. Took them nearly 1 hour to get it hot again. Worst breakfast I had in a while. Mould in bathroom, paint scratched from the walls.

Review 97:Good location. Easily accessible from the main road into Waterford.

Review 98:A group of us travelled. The double rooms were fine even if they weren't like the photos on the website. Also the family rooms were nothing like advertised they each had a Double a single and a fold away bed. Very little room in the family rooms. Hotel is cheap and cheerful a 3star at most.

Review 99:Location was great food was good. Very little parking but the carpark across the road was perfect4euro on exit

Review 100:No atmosphere in bar (no music, uncomfortable seats too low for tables, drafty with doors directly onto street). Location very convienent to get to when driving but not great to walk to the busier part of two, felt a little unsafe at night due to lack of street lighting.

Review 101:Very well appointed room, vending machines available, swift and friendly staff at reception

Review 102:The main light in the room was not working, there was stains on the walls where a previous leak had accrued and wasn't painted or repaired, also there was drawing on the walls like a marker of some kind and it wasn't the most pleasant of locations very poor over all experience being a worldly travelled person and when I emailed the general manager explaining this matter,it took two emails to get a response from him

Review 103:Bar staff were nice

Review 104:Lack of an internet station. Not all persons who use internet take it to Europe. Also, why is US e-mail seemingly allergic to British Isles internet? It seemingly was different 6 years ago?

Review 105:location in Waterford

Review 106:Room was on road which was a bit noisy!

Review 107:Once again I really enjoyed my stay at the Fitzwilton Hotel in Waterford. As always the room was clean and very comfortable. The staff were very friendly, courteous and extremely helpful. Can I make a special mention of Louise on reception who was so polite and helpful beyond requirements.

Review 108:Awkward Access due to Road Works did not help. Car Parking facilities could have been better. Quality of food sort of a "Mixed Bag " Special Offer with free bottle of wine for evening dinner was slightly disappointing.

Review 109:Staff were courteous and helpful.

Review 110:Car park did not available at all. We need to park at outdoor public parking. Hotel is pretty old from the inside.

Review 111:Great location. Within a walking distance to most attractions. Staff is pretty helpful.

Review 112:Unfortunately upon opening the door to our room, we were met with the stench of urine! We highlighted this to reception & told them we would be going out for a few hours so they could resolve the issue. Upon returning, nothing had been done even though the girl at the desk said she would get the Property manager onto the case. We left the room window open (as little as it could) & heard nothing from the hotel staff.

Review 113:Location & food were excellant.

Review 114:The bottle of red wine with dinner. (We don't drink wine but felt too embarrassed to refuse the service which was part of the package)

Review 115:Central location to shops and tourist attractions

Review 116:rough crowd staying there the night we were there, very loud at bar. felt uncomfortable. one of the bar staff very unfriendly to my partner. stains on carpet in the room.

Review 117:At first given a room with only one single bed. Television not connected at the start had to call reception.

Review 118:Bar Staff very helpful especially Christoff

Review 119:Disabled shower had nowhere to put soap/shampoo other than the floor - which is useless if you can't bend down. Meant having to try to shower holding bottles plus trying to hold support. Sink was tiny & designed with only wheelchair users in mind. Not all disabled people are in chairs! Far too low so I had to then go to my son's adjoining room to use their bathroom. Made it a very frustrating experience.

Review 120:Loved the hotel - our 2nd stay there. Spoiled only by the ill-thought out disabled bathroom.

Review 121:Could not find any parking in the hotel's garage. Parked across the street for only 4 euro, but I wish the web site would have mentioned this

Review 122:Nice comfortable modern hotel

Review 123:On the last morning there were 2 coach parties, which meant that all the other guests were put into the bar area for breakfast, which was an absolute shambles! The reception staff were very apologetic and refunded our breakfast as we didn't have any!

Review 124:We had an excellent 4 night stay, friendly staff, bar food was good but can't comment on the restaurant as we didn't eat there.

Review 125:Breakfast had long queues of people waiting for the self serve buffet to be restocked repeatedly. Was good when finally arrived though/

Review 126:Very friendly staff (kids liked the lollipop on arrival!), clean and comfortable.

Review 127:Hotel advertised dinner for 2 @ €49. My wife and I had this offer but didn't take wine as there was no non alcoholic wine. Were charged €60.35 - I was told it's because we didn't take the wine. Very unfair.

Review 128:The hotel was close to all amenities, shopping, site seeing etc.

Review 129:Nothing

Review 130:We stayed at this hotel for 2nights its in a great location near everything its a fan hotel I couldn't fault it at all I will definitely be staying there again food is fab and the staff at lovely.

Review 131:There was a plaster on wall beside curtains. The carpet in room was stained.. well overdue a cleaning. And a light in the room wasn't working so only had the two lamps for light in evening.

Review 132:Staff very friendly and helpful

Review 133:breakfast room staff need too watch how they respond to a request from a guest... as an observer i noticed a staff member rolling her eyes when asked for hot tea ...

Review 134:the hotel was very comfortable and clean, location was as promised- very central, staff on reception was more than helpful

Review 135:From the moment I checked in, I was listening to roadworks non stop drilling, couldn't open my window for air and the rooms were very warm. The hotel never made me aware of the road works and when I made a complaint I was nicely told oh well. Didn't offer to change rooms for me or offer ear plug's. Also the breakfast was horrible. Under cooked and tasteless.

Review 136:It was in a good location in the city and the decor of the hotel was modern.

Review 137:The hotel was outdated with stained carpet and furniture. The walls were scratched and had holes covered in spacale. They also refused to honor our request to have a family room, instead they simply set up a cot for our other child. Terrible, terrible experience!!

Review 138:Decent location by the quay in Waterford.

Review 139:There was nothing we didn't like

Review 140:The location I've stayed in this hotel before and loved it great atmosphere and lovely friendly staff made us feel welcome and relaxed highly recommend the hotel to my friends

Review 141:Bed was too hard Front desk staff could be more friendly

Review 142:Most of the staff were excellent Great location near the railroad station Spacious room an good sized bathroom

The Fine Print

Please note that the free private parking is very limited. It is provided on a first come, first serve basis and cannot be guaranteed. There is alternate parking on the wharf, which is a 2-minute walk from the hotel.
