Reviews for Clifden Bay Lodge
Review 1:The location of Clifden Bay Lodge (which is outside the centre of the town) gives you a stunning view of the bay and out to the Atlantic You are on the edge of Ireland. We were there in January and the skies were ever changing and the sun was silver white. The area is beautiful. ...And oh the silence! An ideal and starting point for sightseeing Connemara. (We had hired a car and I think this is a 'must'.)
Review 2:Nothing
Review 3:Very helpful and informative lady provided maps and gave advice. excellent stay would highly recommend The Clifden Bay Lodge Great breakfast too
Review 4:One of us has a lot of serious dietary issues, but Frederique went the extra mile to ensure their meals were safe and enjoyable. Great friendly service all around, excellent cuisine, warm cosy room, lovely house cat!
Review 5:The location is from one hand very beutiful, with great view, but from the other hand - must use a car to get to clifden city center.
Review 6:Frederic, the hostes, Very helpful and kind.
Review 7:I asked for Sausages to be well done as I felt they were undercooked when my breakfast was served I got 1 rasher undercooked egg no sausage so pudding and no tomatoe very disses pointing But I think in fairness it was a language barrier was the problem
Review 8:Lady was lovely very friendly
Review 9:no TV, WiFi to slow to use, hosts are lovely but have quite the strong accent when speaking English which made understanding them difficult
Review 10:beautifully decorated house, wonderful breakfast, clean, hosts are French so it's perfect for visitors from France
Review 11:Sea view was only possible through the roof window on top of the toilette and when kneeling on the bed; Very small room not possible to have two big suitcases in the room; no cabinet; no heat in the bathroom
Review 12:nice working shower, big bathroom but no heat there; water and coffee and tea was provided as well as some muffins in the afternoon;
Review 13:Frederick and Charles made us welcome straight away the breakfast was great. Room was overlooking the Atlantic Ocean nice and quiet a couple minutes drive from Clifden. Lovely stay
Review 14:A very knowledgable hostess who gave us lots of information on interesting ,scenic drives and places to eat in Clifden. We also enjoyed an evening meal cooked by our hostess on our second evening and would recommend booking dinner here as it is quite a distance out from Clifden if you want to have wine with your meal.
Review 15:Upstairs bedrooms have slanted skylights so you do not get a view to the beautiful bay unless standing. Dormer windows would have been better solution
Review 16:Warm welcoming host, great tranquil spot, close to lovely lively Clifden and the Connemara and bog country, breakfast fine. Great stopover.
Review 17:Nothing.
Review 18:The remoteness and stunning scenery. The quietness. French coffee was very good and the lady of the house who was French gave us a map of where to see best sights. We took her advices and weren't disappointed.
Review 19:Some work to be done at the cottage. Naked light bulbs, no cupboard, weak noise isolation, but Frederique's friendliness makes it up!
Review 20:Frederique (French lady) is a splendid host! Excellent breakfast, splendid location, great tips for trips in the surroundings ! She knows for sure the best restaurants in Clifden. Try Mitchel's if you fancy seafood. Try Lowry's if you fancy a good Irish whiskey and like live Irish music. Try the EJ Kings restaurant/pub for great food and cosy interior !
Review 21:We were welcomed warmly by Frederique and enjoyed some lovely chats. She provided plenty of advice, cooked a great breakfast and a marvellous dinner of local salmon and generally made our stay really enjoyable. Our room was very comfortable with a great view over the Atlantic and lots of room to relax. The bed was very comfortable and warm. Would highly recommend Frederique's and Charles' lovely B and B. Merci beaucoup Frederique, Charles et Constance.
Review 22:nothing!!!!! everything was super! A bientot!
Review 23:We stayed there for part of our honeymoon and the B&B was just wonderfull. The owners are French; they are very polite and absolutly not invasive. We occupied the room on the ground floor and every morning we woken up with a gorgeous view. The Irish Breakfast was good and also Frederique suggested us a lot of nice place to visit and pub for food! Recommend!!
Review 24:House is kind of clairaudient. Especially if you are in the base rooms you could hear every step upstairs. The upper rooms are recommend for booking then the price for a night will be worth it.
Review 25:View was astounding and worth the stay. The french/irish breakfast servered by the host was top. Very friendly hosts. Kind of a little french oasis in Clifden. Could sit there forever and watch the waves and the sea while speaking french and reading books. Very relaxing spot.
Review 26:There was no minus
Review 27:Location in a miracle ocean view place.Sensitive & attentive owner Federique managed my vacation in the best way. It is 7-8 km out Clifden on Low Sky road with amazing viewing on Wild Atlantic coast. Peaceful, lonely place with all conditions i needed. Bravo Federique, thanks from my heart.
Review 28:Nothing! Everything was perfect!
Review 29:First, you have to know that it is really easy to access. We took the bus from Galway to Clifden and then we walked about 40 minutes to reach that Irish paradise with a French touch. The road is scenic! Even under the rain. If you really don't like or don't want to walk, you can still have a cab in the city centre. The welcome was very friendly, the deco is cosy. For Frederique, everything is in the small details! She was really sorry because the jacuzzi we had in the room was not working (we still had a huge shower) and she made and offered us 2 quiches in the evening to apologize. So kind. In the evening, they had invited neighbours for a drink and asked us to join once we would be done with dinner... what we did! We've had a fun and interesting evening talking about a lot of different subjects. The calm, the rain and the ocean made us sleep like babies. Next morning, the breakfast was the best one we've had in 2 months in Ireland. Always with a great French touch (cups, good bread, butter, even a bowl of red fruits, strawberries, rasperries...AMAZING!). Frederique and her 23yo daughter, Constance, were really kind. They kept our luggage after the check-out time, as we went for a 2 hours walk around. When we came back they offered us a hot tea before to drop us in the centre of Clifden. Perfect unexpected service for a B&B, amazing place, new friends that we have now. This 1 night stay will be our most memorable one for a long time I think. If you plan to visit Connemara, you have to stay there at least 2 nights!
Review 30:Having to leave!
Review 31:The staff - they went out of their way to be helpful with both our stay in the B&B and with giving us some brilliant help planning where to go on our days out. Breakfasts were lovely. Views out across bay and to sea were amazing. Great place to be based to travel the Wild Atlantic Coast and Clifden had a great range of pubs with good food and live music every night.
Review 32:No tv in the room...not a necessity but is nice to chill out to at times.
Review 33:Staff couldn't have been more welcoming and accommodating! Their adorable Labrador puppy was just as welcoming!
Review 34:Great scenery, lovely host, ready for a chat and interested to hear what went on and very helpful. not too far away even to walk from the center to the B&B.
Review 35:The location is a bit remote and my coffee at breakfast was luke warm.
Review 36:The host was very friendly and helpful. There was a slight language barrier as she is french but we got by. The room is clean and well furnished and the breakfast was good.
Review 37:No help from non English speaking operators, poor facilities, a way out from town, not even a lightshade in the bedroom and no area to sit apart from the room. A high cost for very little and the worst accommodation in Ireland.
Review 38:Nothing to like
Review 39:Lovely couple from France make you feel so welcome the moment you arrive. Wonderful views of the bay. Great food and dining area. Charles makes amazing pastries for market on the weekends! The horse next door visits for breakfast. Mom from France is super cute and such a love.
Review 40:We wanted a room with a view of the sea. We had a fantastic panorama of the bay and the ocean. The house is out of the town while being close enough to access the restaurants and shops. Well worth that extra effort.
Review 41:Everything was just superb. We stayed several places in Ireland during our stay, this was the best by far.
Review 42:The location was magnificent, being right on the Wild Atlantic Way. Breakfasts were delicious and Frederique was very welcoming.

Review 53:Room was a bit tight for suitcases with sloped ceiling on one side
Review 54:Great view, owner was very helpful, great breakfast
Review 55:Favorite place on our two week trip. Amazing view and great couple who runs it. Very cozy and welcoming.
Review 56:Tout était parfait : accueil, localisation, conseil sur les coins à visiter. Nous recommandons.

Review 59:nothing
Review 60:very friendly and helpful host, amazing view from the b&b
Review 61:Gorgeous setting, quiet, wonderful host. She made some great recommendations for places to find trad music, food and drives in the area.
Review 62:Bed was uncomfortable. No tv Towels very small Cars parked in front of window that spoiled the view
Review 63:The area. Friendly helpful host. Nice breakfast
Review 64:The location and the accommodation were absolutely amazing! Great stay!
Review 65:Accueil , situation sur sky Road , confort , breakfast ....
Review 66:Frederique gave nice helpful tips for touring the region.
Review 67:They need better directions and signposting.
Review 68:Smaller room, but fine for us.
Review 69:The view from this B&B was incredible. Also we had a nice salmon dinner prepared by our host.
Review 70:Wonderfull location, very friendly reception by owner, all in all top stay here
Review 71:Frederic is sweet and attentive- we had the best time with her and her lovely B&B
Review 72:Really good breakfast including homemade marmalades and jams. Lovely hosts. Great location at a quiet area of the bay. Clean and nice room.
Review 73:Our stay was too brief!
Review 74:There is no better view in the whole world. The lodge is very comfortable, and the Irish breakfast was absolutely the best.
Review 75:Beautiful setting, tasteful furnishings, delicious breakfast and a warm French welcome! Definitely had the 'wow' factor!
Review 76:Location location location

Review 80:Couldn't connect to WiFi
Review 81:Very accommodating. Friendly atmosphere. Excellent food and beautiful view.
Review 82:Really beautiful view from the house. Great breakfast. The hosts were very welcoming and gave some great tips on what to see in Connemara.
Review 83:Beautiful views, helpful and friendly proprietors, comfortable room, great breakfast.
Review 84:You have to have a car as the location is remote.
Review 85:The hosts were very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was delicious. View was breathtaking. The room was room and comfortable.
Review 86:Rooms have thin walls, could hear every word of conversation next door, and then people snoring. Floors not carpeted in hallway, too noisy.
Review 87:Location, cleanliness, size of the room, free parking.
Review 88:sink in bathroom was very low, no wardrobe/ press in bedroom price per night is same as many hotels but without the facilities
Review 89:location, good breakfast, friendly hosts
Review 90:Nothing to compain about - great value for the area.
Review 91:The French woman who runs the Lodge was very interested in giving usthe benefit of her knowledge of the area. She prepared us a finebreakfast in the morning and helped us plan our route to KylemoreAbbey. Very nice place!
Review 92:Not good value for money. Rooms should be improved by adding towel hangers, hooks, small wardrobe... Sound proofing wasn't good and should be improved too.
Review 93:Location and advice given on where to go / what's going on in the area.
Review 94:Had many Full Irish breakfasts on trip...this one was OK...since host is French I should have chosen the French breakfast choice...she could round out the experience by highlighting her native skills and it would give it a charm without influencing one's Irish trip.Apparently you can order dinner ahead of time...need to advertise that...the kitchen looked fabulous so a in house meal might have been a nice option instead of heading back into town.
Review 95:Beautiful view of bay and out to ocean, was foggy and raining, however obviously a stunning location for walking and relaxing. Very clean and comfortable, with very caring hosts.
Review 96:We were staying on the ground floor and had some noise from upstairs. Need better sound proofing.
Review 97:Beautiful sea view and good location for a driving the sky road and dining in Clifden town. The owner was helpful for guiding restaurants in town. The bed was big and comfortable.
Review 98:Small shower/toilet area.
Review 99:The cliffside location with views over the sea inlet was superb. The breakfasts were freshly prepared to order and the dining area was attractive. The hosts were charming and well informed on local topics of interest.
Review 100:The bedroom was very humid and we had no view on the sea but only on the back of the house (no privacy!). The equipment (tiny bathroom) and the service were vastly insufficient in view of the price. The price per night is totally excessive and this b&b is highly overrated in comparison with other b&b's in the area.
Review 101:This B&B is very well located.
Review 102:The fact that you can dine if you ask at the time of reservation is not mentioned on the web site. this is a missed opportunity!! French or Irish cuisine with expertly chosen Loire wines.
Review 103:Everything; the place abounds in Gallic charm.
Review 104:Clifden has become quite built up so it's nice to stay outside the town and get a flavour of what it used to be like. The views from the house are beautiful and the owners are pleasant and engaging without being intrusive.
Review 105:excellent hospitality with a gallic charm. easy-going relaxed atmosphere with good food offerings. the setting is magnificent with a wide-ranging view over the bay and the atlantic reefs beyond.
Review 106:I loved the location along the sea front and the view from our bedroom window in the morning. Charles was so chatty and friendly, offering tips on where best to dine and places to explore.
Review 107:Lovely view and setting
Review 108:The location, the views, the peace and quiet.
Review 109:Breakfast including tea/coffee was almost cold.
Review 110:The lovely view.
Review 111:Charming hosts and spectacular seaside location with Atlantic vistas. Great accomodations with excellent bed and shower.
Review 112:Everything was great. We had a really good time and we can`t wait to come back there in the summer :)
