Reviews for Ardagh Hotel & Restaurant

Review 1:The room was very tired the plumbing was antiquated at 170 euros a night it was a complete rip off.

Review 2:The breakfast was very good. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 3:Consistent high quality in all aspects, delivered by effective and very friendly management and staff. The food generous and of the highest standards.

Review 4:Room 1 is to be avoided - a lot of machinery hum, either from the fish tanks or the beer coolers. Also liable to a bit of noise around 10pm (being close to restaurant) so not suitable for the early to bedders.

Review 5:Bathroom was "tired" and needs to be updated. Free Wi-Fi has spotty coverage (best in the bar) and poor throughput (don't expect to do Skype calls). Sadly this is the norm for many hotels in the West of Ireland.

Review 6:Location near Clifden is a good base for Connemara touring. The restaurant is excellent for dinner. Friendly staff.

Review 7:The dog at reception--whilst tied was all over us and I nearly had a nasty accident. Not a good idea for a dog to be there where there is also food and drink.

Review 8:nice planted arbour upstairs overlooking sea Great views from restaurant. Excellent food. Gluten free options.Very friendly, accomodating and helpful staff. Lovely big fire in lounge. A great get away from it all place

Review 9:Bedrooms a bit dated, although immaculately clean. Hotel in general a bit 1980's, a bit tired in places and in need of a refurb. Lobby, bar & restaurant quite nice- with Fab Views over the lake.

Review 10:Fantastic Views, lovely location, fab food!

Review 11:Great location , beautiful room with stunning views . Staff and owners couldn't have been more attentive and helpful and food particularly lobster superb. Will certainly go back again and recommend it to anyone

Review 12:Personal-level attention. There's a gorgeous sunroom overlooking the bay -- great for reading. And here came coffee & cake, to our delight! Dinner was beautiful and delicious and served by the host himself. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Review 13:Accommodations were great. Breakfast was wonderful. Best brown bread I had! Great seaview. Comfortable room. Staff was helpful and very nice. Location is just outside of Clifden, but easy access.

Review 14:Friendly and professional hotel run by owners in person. Excellent sea food. Lovely location. Even the Wi-Fi is great. The best place we stayed on our Irish holiday.

Review 15:Little bit expensive but well worth the extra money for a lovely weekend away.

Review 16:Staff were excellent particularly Serge who checked us in and carried our luggage.

Review 17:No lunch or bar food served during the day. Bad form for September. Not many guests in hotel and the services were not available to those of us who were there.

Review 18:We were at the Ardagh 20 years ago for a 10 year Wedding Anniversary weekend. We went back for the 30th. Hotel was comfortable and relaxing. Food was first class and the staff were excellent. We had one dinner and two breakfasts.

Review 19:Rooms are quite clairaudient, our first room (no. 1) was very noisey (water pumps?), quality of sleep depends largely on your neighbors.

Review 20:Friendly staff and excellent breakfast. Good starting point for trips to Connemara. Very dog-friendly.

Review 21:Reception seemed a bit dark when we first entered but this masked a very clean and pleasant place to stay.

Review 22:Staff could not do enough to help. View from restaurant. Cleanliness, small family hotel style.

Review 23:Inability to walk any where because of the narrow roads. ( but not the hotels fault)

Review 24:Everything was perfect. The menu for dinner was very good and the food was faultless. The quietness in the rooms was excellent and views from all the windows priceless. Will recommend to all that I speak to

Review 25:Breakfast did not have the same dedication as dinner, with poor quality condiments!

Review 26:Ambience. Curteous, professional staff, with the needs of the guest at the forefront always. A unique experience, if you're looking for a boutique hotel in an idyllic setting with divine food, with the freshness of the garden obvious, and glorious produce from the sea. Curteous

Review 27:Restaurant excellent fantastic choice. Ambience superb

Review 62:nothing

Review 63:food,staff,ambiance

Review 64:Superb location overlooking the bay, friendly staff, excellent food, comfortable room. Highly recommend!

Review 65:Bedroom needed updating, bathroom needed some attention for small details eg insufficient places for hanging wet towels

Review 66:location, staff, food

Review 67:The food was excellent, scenery fabulous, and the hosts were very hospitable. Very comfortable stay.

Review 68:The bed was a little lumpy.

Review 69:Serge, the front desk man / barman / waiter and musician / entertainer is a class act.

Review 70:Disgusting smell hits u the minute you walk in. And a big dog in lobby is not great

Review 71:This is was a gem of a find, every detail was very much taken care of; the hospitality, the restaurant, the bar, the entertainment. Great conversation and good times.

Review 72:We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at The Ardagh ... A room with a view (to die for) Evening dinner in a room lit by the setting sun (fab fish) and pre and after drinks in the comfortable lounge ... Overall the most wonderful stay, with the warmest of welcomes from Monique & Stefan ... Will definitely be making a return visit!

Review 73:We got a bit lost finding the Hotel and didn't realise it was about 3 miles out of Clifden.

Review 74:Our sea room was lovely, and the lounge was very cosy with open fire and lounges to sit and enjoy the view.

Review 75:Not a complaint but no wifi signal in the hotel rooms although there isfree wifi in the communal areas.

Review 76:Stefan the owner was a fantastic host and all the staff were extremelyfriendly. The hotel is located right beside Clifden and has aspectacular bay view. The food in the restaurant was fantastic and wellworth while spending an evening on the premises. Cannot recommend a stayin this hotel highly enough.

Review 77:Lovely location, helpful and friendly staff, high standards of cleanliness, good food in the restaurant, attention to small details that make a lot of difference - big fluffy towels, peat fires in all the public rooms on wet days, fresh flowers.

Review 78:Wi fi did not work in room. Food was good, not great.

Review 79:Location. The view was spectacular. Get a sea view room. A gorgeousarea. The hotel is really nice.

Review 80:The hotel should sell itself better. There were no pictures of theinterior on the site and even the brochure/map with the IrishCountry Hotels just shows the countryside. They should also advertisethat a taxi to Clifden only costs about €2 per person and they will bookit for you at reception. This is useful information when travelling witholder children. They should also say that they are willing to cooksomething simple and off menu for children. We didn't have dinnerthere because we felt the cost of dinner would be wasted on the kids. When we were having a drink later Serge told us they would have donethis had we asked. They should mention there is no lift (?) (thisdidn't matter to us but could be important to others) Overall, nothing to dislike these are just a few suggestions to improve theexperience for guests.

Review 81:This hotel is a real gem. The bar/lounge had the most welcoming feelof any hotel I have ever been in. The turf fire, the candles and softlighting create a lovely atmosphere. The board games and pool (snooker)room kept the children (14/16 ) entertained. We had a family roomand it was great to have 4 decent sized beds and lots of space. Thebreakfast was delicious and a reminder of what food should taste like.If they are looking for groups off season it is perfect for bridgeweekends, murder mystery etc. It is also perfect for over 30's girlsweekend. I will definitely return.

Review 82:Bedroom doors are poor quality and not fire resistant.a better quality of coffee in room would have been nice.very hard to find fault with the business.

Review 83:Ambience and decor, attentive staff.Friendly and knowledgeable about their environment and places of interest.Bedrooms on Bay side are very generous in size.

Review 84:We were only staying for two nights. Weather was great, time was too short. We will definitely go back to the Ardagh and would highly recommend it.

Review 85:The views were just fab, from our room, dining room & front porch. It is such a relaxing location, we sat on the porch in the evening having a few drinks, reading and munching on the lovely free savory snacks provided, watching the fish jump in the sea just across from the hotel. The Ardagh also has a lovely sun room on the 2nd floor where guests can sit and read the magazines provided. Breakfast is cooked when ordered, while this can take a bit longer, it means that the food is not lying around for ages and it gives the guests time to enjoy the view from the large dining room window. We really liked that it is a family run hotel and enjoyed our chats with the owners. I loved the decor in the bar, reception and toilets, that important extra touch. It is so relaxing, love it!

Review 86:Everything. This is a great hotel. The location overlooking an inlet of the sea is stunning. The rooms are well equipped and comfortable. There is a very nice bar and two residents lounges. Car parking is easy. The staff are friendly and helpful. Above all the food was absolutely great - varied, well cooked and large portions. Seafood a speciality.

Review 87:I didn't like the day I had to leave, I had just spent the loveliest six days, Truly the best place I have ever stayed in.

Review 88:Ardagh Hotel is a heavenly place to stay. beautiful decor, wonderful food, great management and staff, beautiful scenery, this place really has it all. Truly a little corner of heaven.

Review 89:Bizarre bathroom sink that was about 4 feet high. Could have used a step stool to use it. But I sort of felt like a kid - which was amusing in a way. This is not really a complaint since it kind of added to the experience. The rest of the stay certainly diminished the little oddness of the sink.

Review 90:Great Staff. Gorgeous view from room. Very pleasant room and comfortable.

Review 91:The wine list was a little disappointing - over-priced and not a great choice. And sadly too cloudy to see a sunset - not anyone's fault though!

Review 92:Lovely location. Our bedroom was very comfortable with a great view and the public areas were very welcoming too.Good food and the restaurant overlooked the bay.

Review 93:The room was very cold. Heating was turned off overnight. It says that it's a non-smoking hotel, but the hallway smells cigarette and the toilet too. Will never go back!

Review 94:The view is nice facing the ocean. The male staff when we arrive was accomodating.

Review 95:There was absolutely nothing to dislike about the Ardagh Hotel.

Review 96:We recently stayed in the Ardagh Hotel for 3 nights, it was the perfect get a way with gorgeous food , lovely views , lovely open fires & fabulous staff. I would definitely recommend this hotel & we are looking forward to returning again very very soon.
