Reviews for Liss Ard Estate

Review 1:We stayed at the Lodge. We were looking for a quiet escape in beautiful surroundings. That is exactly what we got. The estate is large enough and scenic enough to provide diversion during your stay, assuming the beauty of the West Cork magic outside the walls doesn't draw you through the gates.

Review 2:Hotel was very quiet. Lodges were a bit too far to have to be walking over for breakfast. Room clean etc and different but nothing exciting.

Review 3:Location is lovely but would recommend if you were looking for a quiet, out of the way location, this is it!

Review 4:Stayed in Lake Cottage. No curtains and wooden blinds not working, windows dirty, TV not working, Paper sliding doors between bedroom and bathroom which were broken in places, only one bath towel provided. Very little parking available. More like a hostel but at hotel prices....

Review 5:Nice location with so much potential.

Review 6:One expects a comfortable bar where one can enjoy a pre dinner drink instead of a drink brought on a tray. There was no armchair for relaxation in the bedroom. The bathroom was very small, even pokey and no feeling of luxury about it. Hardly room to turn around in the bathroom.

Review 7:We loved the drive away from the road and the secluded aspect of the hotel.

Review 8:Internet was not good at all over in the area where it was the stables and rooms were.

Review 9:Fantastic grounds! The House is well looked after and is just pure class of a slight mix of contemporary and touches of the past. Our room was tiny but cosy and well thought out. The comfort of the bed was very good.

Review 10:one adult and 2 kids so had to have a fold up bed in a tight double room in accom quarters off the main building. it was fine but i think overpriced at e150 per night

Review 11:great location , woods and lake

Review 12:The house is surrounded by a huge garden- there are so many walks and beautiful corners one can easily spend a few days there wandering around. The food is excellent - we had dinner in the restaurant on the night of our stay.

Review 13:The room was great. Around the bath tub, however, it clearly needed fixing up, as it was black from humidity. Unfortunately, they did some sort of patch job-pity.

Review 14:Impressive house, beautiful grounds! Amazing breakfast. I will remember my time in this hotel.

Review 15:some opportunities for improvement: add pancakes to your breakfast menu, some people don't fancy...eggs with bacon, eggs with salmon, eggs benedict etc. The night we are in the restaurant the staff were quiet junior. Bread cleared from table when asked but side plates/knives left. We had red wine but white wine glasses left on table. My partner had steak, we had to ask for a steak knife....little things but for a venue of your quality, they should be standard. The Sky Garden...beautiful feature, IF you get in to see it. We made 3 attempts, each time other guests were using it, there needs to be time slots allocated per visit. So that your guests get to experience it in all its glory. We will absolutely be back for another visit, it's a treat to stay in such a relaxed environment.

Review 16:estate itself is beautiful, very well maintained with relaxing forest walks, opportunity to go boating/fishing on the lake. the quality of food is exceptional. Homely feel to the main house, a large sitting room, with a large open fire, and a smaller (equally comfortable) TV room, with bean bags, sofas, board games, plus sofas just off the main entrance with a grand piano, and another large open fire. Very friendly, helpful staff.

Review 17:I feel when people arrive after a long drive two bottles of water in the frige would be nice and maybe a biscuit or two with the tea or coffee would be a nice touch. And some nice flowers in the room would add aroma and colour. I heard its up for sale in November hope it continues as a guest house. Lovely location and lovely walks

Review 18:Food was excellent

Review 19:Wifi spotty in my room

Review 20:Beautiful garden view rooms. Main house is lovely. Staff was very helpful and pleasant. The best part: the grounds. Do not miss the sky garden.

Review 21:Breakfast was very good however would have preferred a pot of tea instead of having to ask the waitress to refill my cup-they seemed rushed to serve everyone and that small thing would have helped!

Review 22:Beautiful house and gardens, a wonderful setting and the staff were very helpful

Review 23:When we checked in, the person made us feel that she didn't have time for us. The wifi was extremely poor in our room to non existent at times. The breakfast staff and quality was poor. The bedrooms are not worth the money.

Review 24:Location was OK. The lady who checked us out was most pleasant and was the only good thing about our stay.

Review 25:Bedroom - two single mattresses with single quilts pushed together to make double bed no internet or telephone signal in the lake lodge only main house Chinese rice paper/bamboo shutters covering windows and used in place of doors for wArdrobe and ensuite and toilet

Review 26:The grounds surrounding the accommodation are what make this a wonderful stay. 100 acres of woodland, loughs, streams and gardens. Most peaceful place the relax. Readers, writers and resters - this place is for you.

Review 27:The grounds were just spectacular. Walking trails everywhere. Lake was just beautiful. Horses were magnificent too. We stayed in what I assume was the old stables. The room was very cozy. I only wish we could have spent more time because it was truly awesome!

Review 28:We booked this last minute as we travelled in a different direction than originally planned. The views are amazing! Staff was fantastic and so friendly. The gardens. The Irish sky garden ( a hidden gem) and must see. Rooms were perfect for our family. Would stay there again!!

Review 29:This place was the best value for money stay that we have had for a long time. The estate is really beautiful and the staff (all of them) are genuinely friendly, discreet and classy. Baltimore nearby is great too.

Review 30:All the staff were lovely. I had for a 'asked for gentle massage' as I have trouble with my joints & muscles & the lady was fantastic. Pure bliss.

Review 31:We didn't get to stay in the main house as it was probably booked out. Rooms only available in 'stables' extension on booking.com. It was quiet & really comfy though. The beds there are amazingly luxurious. Room could have been cleaner I though esp. bathroom tiles etc.

Review 32:Loved the tranquillity of the place. The gardens, walks etc. around the grounds are amazing. The common rooms in the old house itself are comfy, quiet & relaxing. We had a 1.5 year old with us so unfortunately we didn't get to enjoy this as much as we should have done on our own. Not really a place for babies & young kids if you want to really savour the place. Older kids would love it though. We had dinner in the restaurant on the first night. It was quiet & nice (except for our baby!!!). The food is really nice. A real treat. Breakfast is lovely too. They serve buffet & will cook to order too, all included in price. We will go on our own without baby the next time! ;)

Review 33:Would prefer freshly cooked breakfast rather than buffet style.Would prefer better signage on path from Lake Lodge to restaurant.

Review 34:Location fabulous set in 100 acres. magical walks through forests and around lake. Accomodation country house style lovely atmosphere, good food and friendly staff.Plenty to do & should visit sky garden amazing.

Review 35:Hoped you might be open for Christmas.....

Review 36:Every effort was made to make our "out of season" 2night stay as enjoyable as possible. Nothing was too much trouble. Many thanks.

Review 37:Checking out. Reception didnt open until 11AM which resulted in a queue with only one person on the desk. Not sufficiently notified of this when checkin in. Lead to a queue of 15-20mins while checking out

Review 38:The ambience of the place was superb set amongst beautiful countryside. A real get away

Review 39:Wasn't quite what I expected. Lacked the human touch - no staff only the Receptionist during the day. Lacked atmosphere. Might suit some people but not quite my 'cup of tea'

Review 40:No real bar scene in the hotel in the evening when we were there . Breakfast service charming and friendly but a bit chaotic - needed some one to coordinate things.

Review 41:House, grounds, walks, lake and kayaks, comfortable spacious rooms. Would love to go back in winter when all those lovely fires are lit!

Review 42:I intended having cup tea at coffee shop after walk. It was 4.40pm, I was told shop closing & I had walk out again, despite sign to say open til 5pm, all I wanted was cup of tea!. No water in bedrooms, bottle of water would be v welcoming, nearly everywhere now.. Lack of signage, not clear when you arrive where you should go to check in

Review 43:location walks comfortable beds peace & tranquility

Review 44:My 87 year old mother objected to the 1/3 mile walk for breakfast but managed it once!

Review 45:The grounds were something else. Despite being there 3 days we did not cover all the gardens, which gives us another reason to come back. The rooms were completed to a high standard. We only had one meal there but all three of enjoyed it thoroughly.

Review 46:Breakfast was a little chaotic. All the staff were lovely but we were asked the same questions by each one. Would have been more relaxing to have one staff member assigned to our table. Also we were staying downstairs in the mews and could hear all the noise from upstairs. It was very disturbing when our neighbours got up at 6am to go for a walk. Need to install a rug or something to help soundproof

Review 47:Lovely setting Peaceful atmosphere Definitely somewhere to totally wind down Grounds were gorgeous

Review 48:Fabulous location overlooking beautiful lake and large woodland. Very spacious room in the Lake Lodge. Plenty space for cooking, dining, relaxing and enjoying the views.

Review 49:After a week in Dublin the Liss Ard Estate was an incredible spot to rest and recover. Comfortable room, great bed, nice bathroom, good breakfast and a huge estate to wander around with no traffic, sirens, or other city distractions. The estate is large enough that you feel like you are alone even if there are other guests. The staff really tried to make us feel at home. Booking.com has a commercial where a group is in the woods paint balling and then they see their accommodations. The Liss Ard estate could be that commercial. It is a hard place to get to and after a day on the roads we were beat to a pulp. When we turned into the driveway and saw the estate all was forgiven.

Review 50:What a lovely treat! Beautiful place, stunning gardens woodlands, gorgeous house and rooms. The best place to linger and relax. Can't wait to come back.

Review 51:We stayed in one of the Lodge apartments. It was a downstairs apartment so we could hear all the activity upstairs..maybe a carpet on the upstairs floor might reduce the noise level

Review 52:Surroundings were beautiful

Review 53:The restaurant was disapointing. The staff were kind but very amateur and the dinners were not tasty. A menu at breakfast would have been helpful and perhaps better use and development of the kitchen garden.

Review 54:The atmosphere and overall feeling of being in a very special place. The professionalism and care of the manager,Mags, was exceptional.

Review 55:Our room was small and e suite was cramped, Rooms were too hot and the blinds were faulty so I could not pull them up to let some air in. Most of all no bottled water in the room and breakfast was only fair. For 150 a night I didn't think it was good value for money

Review 56:Grounds, setting, buildings, walks absolutely beautiful Beds very comfy too

Review 57:nothing

Review 58:the kindness of the staff, all the facilities ( huge drawing rooms and lounge with comfortable sofas and garden view), beautiful garden ( with a children playground) , our room was spacious and the bed very comfortable, breakfast ( full irish) was delicious and we had dinner at the restaurant which was really good as well

Review 59:Nothing

Review 72:Quietness Sky garden Breakfast

Review 73:The lake lodge was peaceful, beautiful and very relaxing. Stunning decor in the main house and delicious breakfast.

Review 95:Gates close & reception closed at 10

Review 96:Loved the gardens & breakfast

Review 97:Lovely surroundings, great walks and activities, lovely staff and great atmosphere.

Review 98:Meals expensive

Review 99:SYSTEM FOR OPENING GATES AFTER 10 CLOCK

Review 100:EVERYTHING ELSE

Review 101:From the moment we arrived we were so impressed with the grounds. We met Mary who was so pleasant even though we were very early for check in she had no problem holding into our bags while we went for a cycle. Our room was fabulous and we had our own terrace area outside to relax in. I must highly recommend The dinner - it was so fresh and the portion sizes were just right DELICIOUS!! the activities on offer are fantastic and everything you could need is supplied! Can't wait to return again thank you for making out yearly trip away so enjoyable!!

Review 102:Stayed in the mews, not sure about the 'Japanese' type folding doors, just being nit-picking

Review 103:lovely grounds, staff welcoming and friendly, very spacious, nothing too much trouble

Review 104:Very little space to hang/put away clothes in our rooms (in the Garden Mews) - if you were staying for more than a couple of nights, you might well get fed up with having to keep clothes in your suitcase. Only mirror in bedroom an impossible distance from an electric socket to allow my wife to dry and style her hair. On the first night, we had to hunt for somebody to serve drinks before dinner as there is no formal bar (but very comfortable seating areas), so nobody apparently on duty (these rooms are not on the same floor as the restaurant). Waitress a trifle testy when she did arrive, but mellowed later! These are small things, but they could be sorted out, and if they are, this will be an outstanding hotel.

Review 105:Location; the Country House itself - it has been stylishly and comfortably decorated; comfortable and spacious rooms (but see downsides); the walks in the grounds; views; very good food and wines in the restaurant; proximity to places of interest; generally helpful and welcoming staff.

Review 106:Leaving!

Review 107:Just blissful...what a location!!! The grounds are amazing and we enjoyed all the gardens including the Sky Garden. We stayed in the Lake Lodge in a beautiful spacious room and had dinner there on our first night...really excellent in every way. The staff are so friendly and very welcoming and we are looking forward to our next visit!!

Review 108:Slight annoyance. Booked at E110 on line for one night but bill was for E135. Not complaining about price as was upgraded to very beautiful suite and was worth it. But suggest you make it clear on your website the exact cost as it is misleading.

Review 109:Everything. Very homely. friendly Relaxed

Review 110:The menu for dinner did not change for 4 different evenings : in West Cork where local produce is excellent and easily available , this was a bit disappointing.

Review 111:The welcome. The relaxing atmosphere. The splendid grounds. Excellent breakfast. Very comfortable room.

Review 112:The accomodation was very comfortable and relaxing. The food outstanding, and the grounds spectacular. The staff couldn't do enough to make our stay a great experience. Will return for more.

Review 113:The layout of the bathroom. Impossible to use without disturbing partner

Review 114:Wonderful staff, gorgeous breakfast. Fabulous gardens and country location, 2 minutes from town.

Review 115:Heating could have been hotter as could the hot water.

Review 116:Fantastic property Really nice decor Super friendly staff Amazing gardens Great wine selection
