Reviews for Clifden Station House Hotel
Review 1:we had no issues with our 2 day stay
Review 2:very helpful staff who went out of their way to find out specific information we were looking for on the clifden area. Great breakfasts Mussels to die for in restaurant
Review 3:Unfortunately we had a night of absolutely no sleep as there was a problem with the heating and the noise was horrendous coming from a cupboard next to our room. We complained 3 times between 1a.m and 4a.m and not once did we get offered another bedroom. We did get a full refund for the night, but left feeling exhausted.
Review 4:Room could do with been touch up a little bit, showing signs of busy holiday season.surprised with the view from hallway connecting hotel and leisure centre.
Review 5:Staff were great, couldn't do enough for us, breakfast was nice and pancake station was a great extra to have for the kids
Review 6:Someone had let the air out of one our tyres. Not really the hotels faulty but was annoying to find the next day.
Review 7:Location, facilities, C runchies on the pillows!!
Review 8:The bar staff in the pub were very uncoordinated and very slow, but they were still nice. The pub itself is beautiful.
Review 9:Very nice and obliging staff in the hotel. Very clean and comfortable also. Excellent location.
Review 10:Nothing
Review 11:We loved staying there. It's a lovely hotel and food in station house restaurant across from hotel was fab and staff so nice. This was our second to. Email staying and have already booked another stay.
Review 12:The room was a bit cold...
Review 13:The location is great, right in the centre of things. We didn't have time to use the pool sadly but it looked lovely. The hotel bar was nice and quiet.
Review 14:Friendly & relaxed atmosphere. There is plenty of parking, reliable WiFi and very close to town. Good tips from Staff regarding restaurants and walks.
Review 15:The majority of the staff were excellent, especially the waitresses in the bar and the staff serving breakfast and also the housekeeping staff however the reception staff left a lot to be desired, they were efficient but intimidating and very sour looking they would definitely put me off I also heard them dealing likewise with other customers We did not look for any special requests a smile would be nice
Review 16:Food,bar entertainment, most of the staff
Review 17:Rooms could do with some up-grading, television in my room was a very old type and the wiring to it could be tidied up.
Review 18:This hotel is located close to the town centre. Good location for taking children, with kids club and swimming pool to keep them busy.
Review 19:Shower was a trickle, TV is very old and screen jumping constantly, leisure centre facilities and pool badly in need of a refresh. Sausages were not hot the first morning.
Review 20:Nice location and staff very helpful.
Review 21:Very noisy, doors slamming, children screaming in early morning hours. Pool overcrowded (public, no hotel pool). Very hard to find a parking space during the day (no hotel parking)
Review 22:Great location, clean and spacious room. Breakfast very good, dinner and bar food also very good.Staff friendly and helpful.
Review 23:The hotel I feel needs a good make over it seems a little tired the decor needs to be updated or painted at least.
Review 24:The location of the hotel is great. It makes a good base for exploring the Connemara area and there are good parking facilities around the hotel also it is right in the town of Clifden which is good.
Review 25:The sofa bed wasn't made up in the room on arrival, it was sorted very fast though. They seemed surprised our daughter was 12, not sure if that was not clear when we made our booking. Also, difficult to get the TV to work.
Review 26:Great location, nice hotel, good mix of guests - couples, families etc. Pool great. Breakfast very good.
Review 27:Our initial room was very poor. The paint work was shabby and one window handle was broken and missing. The timber work in the en-suite was shabby. We were moved but this standard is not good enough. When we discussed this at reception we were not impressed by the approach.
Review 28:Breakfast was good and had a good range of options. They stored my husbands bike securely for him.
Review 29:not one thing honestly . only hotel in all our travels that we can say that about .
Review 30:first of all very efficient and fast check in with a great welcome.staff most helpful at all times with a friendly smile .
Review 31:We ordered lunch in the station house bar at 2.15 on Sunday 14th June 2015. We were still not served at 3.30pm. We were a party of 5 and my son did not receive his food at all. They said they were very busy but there was max about 40 people in restaurant. In the end we had to go down to the local spar to get my son a roll. Shocking.
Review 32:Breakfast very good.
Review 33:Old and dirty leisure centre, didn't enjoy the swim because of the constant noise of ventilation. Sauna and steam room with a poor door letting the cold air in
Review 34:Lovely staff. Maybe not very modern and big room but you feel good there, really nice view. Great breakfast (the best we had in Ireland so far). Guest directory with lots of information
Review 35:Breakfast was nice but cd the second morning. Pub across courtyard was great great atmosphere but very uncomfortable seating, had to leave early as we just were so uncomfortable
Review 36:Nice comfy room, good location.
Review 37:The eggs on Bain Marie were cold both mornings and not appetising. I know it's hard to keep eggs but they were cold and oily. The bacon could be done more. The brown bread was hard and the bread beside the toaster was dried up from heat of toaster. I really enjoyed my stay but l think the breakfast could be so much better with a few small changes. Staff were all nice in dining room.
Review 38:The bed was very comfortable.
Review 39:No meals available in the building. We had to cross the street to the restaurant, in the evening (in the rain!) and again for breakfast.
Review 40:Nice big room. Good wheelchair access.
Review 41:Very disappointed with the food. We had an evening meal the day we arrived and it was very disappointing. Breakfast on the Bank Holiday Monday was chaotic but we put that down to the crowds and accepted it. The breakfast on Tuesday morning was no better. Hot breakfast was cold, it took a long time to replace empty food containers. Porridge was disgusting - full of lumps and so thick it was inedible. When I gave it back to one of the staff and made my complaint he took my dish away and that was the last I heard of it. We didn't eat in the hotel again choosing to eat in the town instead.
Review 42:The friendly, helpful staff and beautiful location
Review 43:The smokers sitting around the entrance to the hotel smoking!
Review 44:Fantastic list of free activities for children arranged by the hotel especially over Easter. There were activities from 3-845pm to keep the children entertained including arts & crafts, magician, balloon making, film, swim hr, games etc. We were out visiting family during the day but would return in the evening & my girls would choose an activity & off they went! Great personal touch to return to our hotel room & there were 2 large Easter eggs waiting for my girls on their pillows! Also great swimming pool on sight that we used twice a day & a great little gym! Also a Childrens cinema within 20 metres of the hotel! Great to know if the weather had been poor! Fantastic breakfasts! The pancake maker was kept busy! We will definately be visiting The Clifden Station House hotel again!
Review 45:The central heating in our bedroom did not work. The internet is not good. Many of the shops around the hotel are empty.
Review 46:It is conveniently located for walking in the town. The staff in the leisure centre are pleasant, courteous and obliging. It is centrally located for touring this region.
Review 47:The room was cold as the windows didn't shut properly. We ordered room service both mornings and both orders turned up wrong. Newspapers didn't arrive. The 'fine print' on the hotel entry on this web-site says that stag/hen parties are not accepted and we were sat next to one at dinner.
Review 48:Lovely area, handy for beaches and National Park.
Review 49:Very very warm in the room but then weather was unseasonably warm when we visited
Review 50:Location was perfect, parking was free, station house bar was handy but didn't feel like the hotel bar which was a plus! Great base for exploring! Pool was nice too
Review 51:Pillows in the bed quite hard
Review 52:Really nice staff and helpful, very friendly. Perfect location and is clean, comfortable and quite. Would stay there again.
Review 53:Breakfast. Scrambled eggs were dreadful and the coffee could be better.
Review 54:Clifden...a gorgeous little town with plenty to offer the visitor. The hotel is excellent.
Review 55:The staff were brilliant. Every member of staff we meet were so friendly and helpful. We felt very comfortable especially with 2 young noisy children!
Review 56:The bar was closed or unmanned on our arrival. We would have liked a drink and a sandwich after a long drive.
Review 57:Food and cleanliness. The receptionist at night was very helpful and we were very pleased with her response to our request. Many thanks to her for a wonderful stay.
Review 58:Staff called to the room with towels for another room, they knocked and then just opened the door and came in without making verbal communication with the occupants first. Then they left the door open and were laughing and still didnt make any attempt to tell me why they were there, I was in my underwear about to have a shower. More staff training needed.
Review 59:Good standard of hotel, nice area, reasonable price with voucher.
Review 60:There was nothing not to like
Review 61:The hotel was in a great location in the town. the staff were excellent. We had an excellent breakfast and great nights sleep. Would definitely recommend it.
Review 62:The only downside I could see was the leisure facilities. They were pretty dated and could do probably with a complete overhaul. Do not let this stop you from visiting though. They were very clean and tidy.
Review 63:My Wife and I travelled to the Station House Hotel in mid November. It was a long, but beautiful drive from Galway City. And well worth it. The hotel was nice, and the staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We ate in the bar on the first night. I had the goats cheese salad which was delicious and my Wife had wings which were equally good. On the Saturday the Hotel staff organised a walking tour with a local guide. This was a fantastic idea and a great way to see the area. We visited Omey Island, with the guide and were not disappointed. The scenery allied to the knowledge of the guide, and the packed lunch provided by the Hotel made for a great morning/afternoon.
Review 64:Walls between rooms a bit thin, so can hear noise in other rooms at times
Review 65:comfy beds, nice staff, good location in clifden but not bang in the middle of main street
Review 66:Room was cold and needed upgrading Breakfast cold and not stored at correct temperature for hot food service Not enough parking on site
Review 67:Lovely staff Location
Review 68:Could have done with the family room open into one .five. People in one room was a bit tight
Review 69:breakfast was great , leisure centre was great, staff friendly and helpful
Review 70:Very friendly staff Manager gave us lots of tips for our cycle tour and facilitated us with a late check out as we had a late ferry sailing they couldn't have been more friendly. Food was great in the restaurant
Review 71:Having to leave, Clifden a beautiful place.
Review 72:Great location, very welcoming and helpful staff, great buffet breakfast, including fresh fruit, salmon, cheeses as well as usual full Irish. Room, bathroom, etc very clean.
Review 73:No evening meal in dining room, on the Sunday evening, I was hoping to entertain family to a nice meal.
Review 74:The food was very good and well set out, good variety.
Review 75:It's a bit expensive and parking is very difficult to find.
Review 76:Location, all services, food, ease of walking to any section of town, close to church, and easy to find
Review 77:Very busy difficult to park, that's not a criticism of the hotel
Review 78:Staff were friendly and helpful, if wax our anniversary and we were up graded, food was very good, leisure facilities great, weather was amazing and the Clifden Arts were great
Review 79:Our room was facing the street and was on the first floor and very noisy with no view! Last year when we stayed there we also had a street facing room on the top floor and had a fabulous view that made up for the noise!
Review 80:Well situated, nice pub and great menu! We once had a court yard facing room.. fantastic! I think one should pay less for street facing room! But we will be back next year!
Review 81:Dinner was very expensive at €49.50 + service charge for a vegetarian meal with no choices!
Review 82:Welcome from reception - can't remember the lady's name but she normally works in admin was standing in. Room was lovely and spacious and great views. Michelle in the spa was lovely and gave a treat facial!
Review 83:The room was very clean and bed very comfy. We had tea making facility which was very welcome . The service was excellent. We enjoyed our stay. Thank You.
Review 84:Bathroom quality poor..very cheap. Shampoo was half empty so obviously wasnt changed from last guests. We were in a family room with a locked connecting door to another family with a young baby..it was like the baby was in our room..absolutely no noise insulation. Horrendous night sleep
Review 85:Good location. Good breakfast. Friendly staff in restaurant
Review 86:Our room was road side of hotel and we went there to relax and to be able to sleep in but we couldn't sleep at all with the noise of the traffic, went home worst off
Review 87:Hotel was lovely,staff very friendly,food excellent,super clean
Review 88:Spent 2very pleasant days in The Station House. Hotel facilities were good. Staff very helpful. Music from marquee loud but it didn't bother us. Will be back
Review 89:Room had no plug for bath, though I expect I could have asked for one as wanted a bath due to bad back. Our room was close to swimming pool and I could hear the pump (or something) all night, though it didn't disturb my partner. Having a room at the back seemed a good idea but road is quite noisy if you like the window open
Review 90:Close to town, staff friendly, room clean, good breakfast choice in the morning.
Review 91:Hotel needs a revamp, a little outdated. Area behind reception is shabby and untidy. Reception staff could be more professional. Had to wait 20 mins to get into the dining room for breakfast. Expensive for quality of the hotel.
Review 92:Location to town. Nice courtyard around the hotel.
Review 93:breakfast area got a bit chaotic when busy -could be organised a little better but not really a problem
Review 94:Staff very friendly and helpful Breakfast and Bar menus very good Interesting location.
Review 95:Room had very noisy neighbours who were up very early with doors banging
Review 96:Staff were very friendly complex had everything on hand within walking distance
Review 97:The only thing i can fault them on is my breakfast not being delivered to my room the first morning of my stay. This was due to them not collecting the room service card off the door the night before.
Review 98:I loved my stay as the room was very clean and comfortable. The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I loved the great location of the hotel, only a short walk to the main street.
Review 99:Crunchie on pillow is a great idea. Staff v friendly n helpful.
Review 100:Staff very friendly and welcoming, room very cosy, Food delicious -we will definitely stay here again.
