Reviews for Podere Spedalone

Review 1:Alessandro and his staff are amazing and kind. The room was clean and lovely, the entire property was picturesque Tuscany. Dinner on the property was delicious and a real taste of Tuscan cuisine, and gives you a chance to dine and chat with other international travelers. Breakfast was equally delicious and bothe the breakfast and dinner hosts are just wonderful. We stayed here on our honeymoon and loved everything about this place, we can't wait to return!

Review 2:I didnt like that I ate too much, but the food was too yummy.

Review 3:We loved the staff, they were friendly and genuine. Our room was beautiful,we liked that we could wake up to an amazing view.It was spacious and charming. We also enjoyed family style meals and happy hour.

Review 4:Alessandro and Massimo were great hosts and very welcoming. The property was beautiful and just the right mix of rustic and modern amenities. Aperitivo and dinner was great to meet the other guests and enjoy home cooking. Breakfasts were plentiful and excellent as well. Alessandro was very helpful in recommending vineyards and places to visit, as well as helping to coordinate appointments. Fantastico!

Review 5:Everything was amazing. The room, food, location, view, and service were all fantastic! I highly recommend Pondere Spedalone and will stay there again on our next trip to Tuscany!

Review 6:Only thing I didn't like was not being able to extend our stay as our holiday was finishing. At least 4 or 5 full days here would have been amazing. The highlight of our trip in Europe .

Review 7:Alessandro and staff are very welcoming, easy to talk to and make you feel at home. Very comfortable and relaxing place.

Review 8:None.

Review 9:Host Alessandro is an awesome and friendly guy, made us feel right at home. Did I say they have the best breakfast in the world? (This is coming from someone who has traveled the world and stay at st. Regis, westin and Ritz Carlton every other weekend.) Look forward to the BEST salami during your previous dinner event as well.

Review 10:Nothing.

Review 11:The best value for this type of lodging I ever had. The food, setting, rooms, and staff were excellent, and provided for a truly enjoyable stay. Perfect agriturismo experience with stunning views. The best way to experience Tuscany and perfectly situated to explore the area...can't wait to go back.

Review 12:I was surprised to find that the swimming pool was closed since the weather was still hot. Would have enjoyed having WIFI, but again I don't think I would have truly experienced Spedalone and all it's beauty.

Review 13:It is a real old Italian farm house that was carefully converted to an agriturismo. The rooms and bathrooms were large, comfortable, and yet had lots of old beautiful character. Loved that the owner, Alessandro greeted us immediately upon arrival escorted us to our rooms and invited us to a glass of wine overlooking the UNESCO Val 'd Orcia. We sat at a table under an olive tree and watched the sunset. It was so beautiful and peaceful sitting there at that moment that I thought I could cry with joy! We had one of the most amazing dinners served family style...real Tuscan food. The chicken was running around the day before and slow cooked in wine and lemon. Chef Johnny definitely knows how to cook like any wonderful Nona! I haven't even mentioned the most delicious and wonderfully prepared breakfast by our now good friend (amigo) Massimo! My husband and I can't wait to return to Podere Spedalone.

Review 14:Our stay was fun, relaxing and just what I think experiencing Tuscany is all about. Central to key small towns. Alessandro was welcoming and fun. The very good meals with fellow guests will be memorable for a long time. So glad we stayed at this Agriturismo.

Review 15:Directions on their website are imprecise and unhelpful. Gravel road leading to the place is in serious need of repair especially considering that most people are arriving in rental cars.

Review 16:Staff were great, accomodations very good, excellent dinner and breakfast.

Review 17:Total tranquility, beautiful views and the perfect location for exploring Tuscany. Excellent breakfast and friendly staff. Highly recommended for an authentic Tuscan retreat.

Review 18:we were a group with multiple rooms, - the ground floor rooms (former stables) are very dark warm and rather humid with a small window very high close to the ceiling (no view) - not all rooms have a pleasant view the staff cleaning the rooms should do a better job to check that everything works: - the remote control for the ceiling fans did not work in any room - the garbage bin in one room was broken - the towels in one bathroom were changed less often than the bed linens (and some dirty towels were left there when the change took place) The pool was very dirty, muddy, not great for swimming. It rained a bit before and during our stay, mud and dust might be responsible but the staff never apologized or made any mention of the inconvenience. Disappointing.

Review 19:- the view from the dining area spectacular - total silence at night - the staff is very kind and helpful - the crib for the baby was very sturdy and the linens good quality - unlimited cappuccino for breakfast - the food is good - the dinner is delicious and very abundant (35 Euros). However, I would suggest a cheaper menu (less copious) for those who are less hungry and maybe do not want unlimited wine.

Review 20:Wonderful location, lost in the hills of Tuscany - but don't worry, it's just five minutes outside Pienza, where you will find all sort of shops, restaurants and facilities. Amazing, friendly staff. Be sure not to miss aperitivo and dinner at Podere: being able to watch the sunset while eating amazing food and drinking local wine was a true experience

Review 21:Our stay at Podere Spedalone was a perfect end to a long trip through Europe. Relaxing, peaceful and stunningly beautiful, this location in Tuscany was perfect for exploring nearby Pienza, Montepulciano (highly recommended) and Montalcino. Our host Allesandro was highly attentive and helpful, organising an exceptional horse back ride for us at very short notice. The dinners and breakfasts were incredible, and the wine free flowing. We loved the family style dining, which allowed us to meet a range of people from all over the globe. The morning cappuccino was also a highlight - the best coffee I had in Italy by a mile. Overall a highly memorable stay in a beautiful part of the world - we will not forget our experiences any time soon.

Review 22:None. I wish we had planned to stay longer, so we could visit the surrounding area (Pienza, Monticello etc) and soak in more of the beautiful tranquility of this place.

Review 23:The location in the Tuscany countryside was spectacular. The family meals and wine (extra, but reasonably priced as well) were great. The hosts and their friends and family are genuinely hospitable and caring. The room and pool were sparkling clean.

Review 24:No bad experiences whatsoever although I would have preferred a queen bed vs 2 single beds put together. Wifi is not the best but hey, with an amazing view and great company, you'd soon forget about getting connected to the internet.

Review 25:Truly a home away from home. Alessandro was a wonderful host and the staff at Podere Spedalone were so hospitable. The location was superb with Pienza only 10 mins drive away so you get a wonderful countryside feel.

Review 26:Quite a lot of flies in the breakfast buffet area - we considered it part of the true farmhouse experience, but I can see how some people may be bothered by it. Wifi only in the common areas - great in concept but can be inconvenient late at night when you need the internet for trip planning.

Review 27:Very friendly and helpful host and staff. Excellent breakfast and dinner, seated family style so you can meet and get to know other guests. All/most of the food is produced at the local farm so it's amazingly fresh and delicious. Also get the chance to see the farm animals - including feeding of the pigs (great for kids)! Beautiful houses and rooms, with gorgeous view of tuscan landscape.

Review 28:Podere Spedalone is absolutely beautiful and Alessandro is a wonderful host. The food is great, the location is ideal for visiting or you can stay on the grounds and enjoy the pool and a walk in the country. Don't hesitate to book - you won't regret it!

Review 29:I couldn't think of anything. Even the Wi-Fi was super fast! Make sure to get directions though, the farm is off the navigation system's map :)

Review 30:From the website, which is highly professional, I didn't think Podere Spedalone would be as authentic and rustic as it turned out to be. Alessandro is a wonderful host, we were greeted with water, juice and coffee. We then relaxed by the spacious pool we had to ourselves and went for a run. At 8 we had an aperitivo on the terrace with the other guests, followed by a wonderful 4 course Tuscan dinner with ingredients from the farm and the area. Probably the best meal we had on our Italy road trip so far and at 35 euros plus 8 for wine really well priced. Getting drunk on Ale's cousins red wine with two older Calfornian ladies made it a perfect night. Breakfast was also amazing, don't miss out on his fried eggs. To bring home some memories from this wonderful one night stay, I bought some of Ale's olive oil and honey. We will definately come back.

Review 31:Podere Spedalone's owner is the perfect host and makes you really feel a welcomed guest. Fantastic meals prepared by his charming cousin chef. Grazie!

Review 32:We stayed in the 2 bedroom casita in the grounds of Podore Spedalone. It was lovely to have our own little family home but also be able to completely envelope ourselves in the warm welcome and hospitality from our host Alessandro and his wonderful small team. We loved eating the homemade dinners at sunset looking out over a perfect view of Tuscan countryside. Highly recommended to anyone. A great mix of interesting guests and a fantastic host.

Review 33:We stayed at Podere Spedalone two nights, and couldn't have been happier. Alessandro and his staff are the ultimate hosts. The place is beautiful, rooms comfortable and the food is amazing (we ate both breakfast and dinner there both days). If you're looking for a Tuscan agriturismo and you choose to stay anywhere else, you're making a mistake.

Review 34:The hospitality of the staff, the property and the food were beyond amazing. So pleased we discovered this magical place.

Review 35:Wifi only in common room

Review 36:Fantastic owners and staff

Review 37:None

Review 38:Its nicely located and quiet. The food is good and accomodation too. Theres also a pool to cool off. Views are breathtaking.

Review 39:Seems a little expensive....

Review 40:Staff are great and location is gorgeous. If you eat there the food is excellent.

Review 41:It's hard to imagine a better place to stay in Tuscany - right in the middle of great hill towns and wine country, in a gorgeous setting. The food was the best we had in our two weeks, Alessandro and his staff could not have been more welcoming and hospitable - it's hard to capture in words how well suited he is to running a place like Spedalone. Each day he would help us plan the day's adventures - including things we never would have known to do or been able to set up on our own. We loved eating dinner (5 courses, not to mention the pre dinner drinks and snacks) each night with the other guests, all interesting folk from around the world. We wished we could have stayed longer and are already dreaming of our return!

Review 42:Alessandro and his team are excellent hosts. I felt at home and so enjoyed the beautiful surroundings and hospitable atmosphere. Would rather stay there than in a 4 or 5 star hotel anytime. Thank you so much.

Review 43:Loved it all. Would love to come back, with kids in tow

Review 44:Excellent host, great breakfast and dinner (extra, but worth it), great location. Really family feel.

Review 45:Our favorite of all places in Italy: Podere Spedalone, an agriturismonot far from the Tuscan town of Pienza. We were greeted immediately byAlessandro, whom we liked instantly, had a glass of wine and breathed inthe rolling green hills and abiding quiet. The agriturismo is a workingfarm, with 14 guest rooms in a main building. Chickens, pigs, turkeys(the goose was eaten by a fox, apparently,) an impressively-sizedvegetable garden, vines, herbs, and olive trees. Modest, charming, andquite comfortable room -- and we were instantly happy. Dinners atSpedalone are served family style, with all the guests and sometimessome of the staff sharing the meal at a large wooden farmhouse table.Food was prepared in an open kitchen, where my husband, a professionalchef, was a frequent guest. Some of the food was standout delicious;some was just comfortably good. (The suckling pig and capicola werestandouts; the rest was pretty darn good, as well.) Wine was pouredfreely, and every night was different but the same: Awkward greetingsamong guests from Italy and abroad, drinks outside to watch the sun set, inside for a few-course dinner with the conversation gradually warmingfrom cordial to warm to uproarious laughter. I nearly cried every nightfrom laughing so hard, and though I tend to be guarded and unsure aroundpeople I don't know well, found the family-style dinners to be ahuge highlight of the trip. I won't soon forget the folks I metaround those tables. Good people, drawn by a good place, and awonderful, talented host.Alessandro is behind it all and is what makes Spedalone so warm, welcoming, and deeply relaxing for its guests. Funny, charismatic, hardworking -- so hardworking -- curious, intelligent, a truly skilled people-person, we fell in love with Alessandro, and after our few days at Spedalone consider him a friend.

Review 46:Alessandro and his team are incredible. We stayed for two nights and ate dinner there both nights. The food was AMAZING and Alessandro couldn't have been nicer or more welcoming. We would go back in a heartbeat.

Review 47:I was nervous at first to ride down the unpaved road since therental car agreement said this was strictly forbidden, but itwasn't a big deal.

Review 48:This place is gorgeous. The views are stunning and the facilities arejust incredible. Alessandro and Dario are the perfect Italian hosts - sofun, friendly and helpful. They feel like old friends after just twodays. My favorite thing was the chance to have a delicious meal togetherat night with other guests. Then with the 500 year old olive trees, organic garden, and their own chickens and pigs. You just want to stayand not go anywhere else. I bought lots of olive oil to take home withme and remember this wonderful experience. Go!

Review 49:To leave...

Review 50:Everything. The location and setting, what Gian-Carlo did with the old house, the personal attention they all give guests, the quality of their food, the enthusiasm with which they let guests try their home-made everything (jams, olive oil, vegetables and more). The advice on where to go, based on deep loving knowledge of the area. We spent three nights at Podere Spedalone, having lunch elsewhere and family-setting dinner at Podere Spedalone with the guests and hosts. We wouldn't miss it!

Review 51:Amazing staff, amazing location & views in Val d'Orcia
