Reviews for Alcock & Brown Hotel
Review 1:should have iron and ironing board in room. Taps weren't working too good . Terrible view of the back of someone's house .
Review 2:It had a warm feeling from the minute you entered the door
Review 3:There was nothing to dislike
Review 4:Loved every second of our trip. Staff so so so friendly and so helpful both day and night staff. we felt at home except ..........we did not want to go home and cannot wait to go back for our next break. We came by bus and all we had to do is walk up the road a few minutes and we were there greeted by such a warm welcome .Many many thank you.xxxx
Review 5:Staff were really helpful and friendly and hotel is in a very central position. Bed and room were very spacious and comfortable. A very enjoyable stay in a town I love.
Review 6:Cold water in shower in the middle of the day. Not very appealing after a long cycle. This seemed to be a feature in a number of places we stayed.
Review 7:Bicycle friendly . Great central location in Clifden. Excellent bar food and breakfast. Really friendly staff.
Review 8:Not a particularly welcoming hotel, they've forgotten the hospitable part of the hospitality business(except for one young boy - a server who was a delight). The tone is obviously set from management down, and it can clearly be felt by guests upon reaching reception. Before, in fact, basically from the moment you approach the hotel you are bombarded with warning signs. There was at least 5 "toilets are for patrons only" signs between the main doors and reception. Unless there has been a daily stampede of bladder-full tourists laying siege to the hotel, which is doubtful, this can only be described as overkill. Post reception there are several other warning signs about bringing food or drink into the hotel. Again, overkill. In my mind, I call it the finger-wagging hotel. Purely for overall tone alone, I would not recommend.
Review 9:Excellent location, reasonably appointed rooms, nice dining and bar area.
Review 10:No free parking. Check out is 11am and it's €20 to stay any later. Decor is a bit dated.
Review 11:Great location near lots of pubs and restaurants. Friendly staff. Clean, nice room.
Review 12:very large windows facing on to square no blinds had to close heavy curtains every time in our room, halls and stairs decor could do with updating.
Review 13:great location in the town square, rooms large and comfortable. staff very friendly.
Review 14:The cleanliness of the hotel was abysmal. On arriving it was obvious that the bathroom hadn't been cleaned and after informing reception I would have thought that the room would have been given the once over. Silly me, on arriving back to the room the windows and mirrors were very smudged and dirty and it was obvious that very little cleaning, if any, had taken place. There was even a doubt as to if the bed linen had been changed. I don't normally do reviews of hotels where I have stayed but on this occasion I feel so strongly about the lack of cleanliness of this establishment that I felt I must. I would most certainly not stay in this hotel again nor would I recommend it to anyone else.
Review 15:The location is excellent right in the heart of the town, but I'm afraid that's the only positive
Review 16:Staff was horrible. Stood by the front counter first while front desk person talked on the phone Asked for a place to get dinner since it was late had no idea and wouldn't assist. Then when checking out again had me stand at front desk even though she saw me. Would not recommend this hotel
Review 17:Location was fine
Review 18:The double bed is too small. The noise of a pump or extractor at the back of the hotel went on all night. Piped music in dining room doesn't equate to good atmosphere (also bad choice of music). Hotel is not achieving its potential.
Review 19:Friendly staff, often family. Right in the centre of Clifden, but not too noisy. Food in dining room was good.
Review 20:I hated the hotel!! It's old with really old carpet that smells. There was no hot water in the shower. Hotel staff was not really nice. Couldn't chek in before 3pm sharp! Even if the room was ready! Really disappointe! Nothing about that hotel worked for me. There's so many others hotels around that you should take the time to chek them out!
Review 21:Nothing
Review 22:WiFi reception wasn't great and the tv was a bit small. No other complaints.
Review 23:Great location close to everything. Had dinner in the restaurant - the food was very good. Staff were very helpful and friendly.
Review 24:Lovely hotel staff very good and friendly excellent breakfast receptionist gave us great tip on lovely beach green bay which We visited Clifton a great place to visit pubs great with plenty of good music
Review 25:I did t like that the hotel had no lift, the stairway was narrow and bit of s trek up and down with luggage.
Review 26:The location of the hotel was excellent, very central to all in the town, pubs and shops within walking distance. The two French bar men in the late night bar were so friendly and welcoming on our return home from night out, they really got to know us and we enjoyed a half hour in the bar with then.
Review 27:Nothing negative to say, except a lift would be nice, but not expected in a cozy older hotel. .
Review 28:The location is excellent--right in the middle of town. The staff--special mention to Fabrice and Patrick, who were wonderful--are absolute gems, and for that reason, we would always come back to this hotel, as we've been to other hotels in Clifden, but this would be our number one choice.
Review 29:Only downside was the continuous fairly loud hum from a generator out the back.
Review 30:Great location in Clifden Town Centre, friendly and helpful staff, very nice room, good value, very good breakfast, nice atmosphere. Walk out the front door and you are in the centre of Clifden, which is a very nice town. There is no parking and I did not want to leave my motorbike out on the street, but the lady at the desk let me park around the side of the hotel.
Review 31:The signs around the hotel regarding food and corkage fees is very off putting. Four of us ate in the pub after we arrived and sadly the food was not great. Hate to complain because the staff are so pleasant.
Review 32:We enjoyed the location of this hotel right in the heart of town. The staff are very nice. The bedroom was comfortable and clean.
Review 33:The hotel is quite old fashioned and beds and rooms are old.clean but could do with a make over
Review 34:Love the location of the hotel and the friendly and helpful staff.
Review 35:Fabulously friendly staff. The hotel was right in the heart of the town and had easy access to many tourist attractions and well signposted. Also, we were able to extend our check out time to 2pm for a minimal extra charge of €20, great facility when you've a little hangover!
Review 36:A lot of rules and signs regarding things you can and can't do Breakfast was very poor has to ask for everything and no fruit Very small TV and limited channels in both room and bar Small towels in bathroom
Review 37:Location and was clean
Review 38:A lot of restrictive statements all around, "you can't do this", "you can't do that"... It seems like your are not in a friendly place like home but rather than like in cheap low budget hotel chain a.k.a. Ryanhotel :( Also, Wifi is really weak.
Review 39:Location is perfect, just in the center of down-town.
Review 40:The hotel is in need of a make-over. The bed was very uncomfortable with some sort of plastic covering under the sheet which was really awful. The room otherwise was ok but bathroom in great need of an upgrade
Review 41:The location was great and the breakfasts both days were excellent.
Review 42:Hot water was slow coming to the Taps.
Review 43:From start to finish , this was a welcoming experience , from Sharon on the Desk to Patrick in the Bar , to Declan the proprietor , all worked in complete harmony. The dinner was excellent and the breakfast was cooked to order and piping hot. The Allcock and Brown Hotel ticked all the boxes for the twelve golfers who used the hotel and the Connemara Golf Club enhanced the overall experience, where the welcome was equally genuine.
Review 44:No parking at the hotel, however, we were able to find parking nearby. Free from 6pm until 11.30am so no problems as we went out every day and only came back in the evening. No lift, so a bit of a drag if you were given a room on the 2nd floor.
Review 45:Spotlessly clean, warm, spacious room. Hot showers, a firm bed, good breakfast. We had our dinners and drinks in the hotel as the weather was too bad to venture outside in the evening and they were good.
Review 46:They could have had help getting bags up to room.
Review 47:This was a great hotel, right in the city centre of Clifden. We drove the Sky Road drive, parked our car and spent the rest of our visit at various establishments in the square. Great shopping and wonderful food. We even spent the evening listening to some traditional Irish music!
Review 48:The only down side of the our stay was the view from our room, we were looking out over the yard. Pity there is no car park for hotel, parking on street.
Review 49:The staff were so friendly and helpful. Very homely hotel. Food very good.
Review 50:We ate at the hotel and they did not have all the food that we wished to order. We wanted four lamb shanks and they only had two. Service was good & friendly
Review 51:The location is excellent
Review 52:In the evening upon arrival didn't feel welcome. Sat to have dinner and the waiter almost dropped the hot plate on my lap and left it on the table partially hanging over the edge of the table ready to fall. In the bathroom on the outside of the sink there were brown crusty spots that I am hoping was dark chocolate. .. was very put off. Very noisey -walls very thin and couldn't fall asleep with the noise from the guests next door.
Review 53:In the morning the staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was lovely. Great central location.
Review 54:The hotel was in a great location and the staff were excellent. Each of the staff members we came in contact with were friendly and obliging. Breakfast was decent and the young lady on duty was incredibly charming. The rooms are clean, although they're pretty basic but the beds are comfortable and the bathroom was well maintained. All in all it's a pleasant hotel, nothing special but certainly not terrible.
Review 55:It was impossible to sleep; the window was broken, it wouldn't close, so the noise from the very loud heating boiler or whatever it was outside, was constant. This coupled with the stifling heat which couldn't be turned off, kept me awake for most of the night. The staff were really nice but didn't even allude to the fact that I was struggling with crutches and our room was on the 2nd floor, nor did they ask how our stay was on checking-out.
Review 56:The staff were very helpful and friendly and the location is great
Review 57:It was noisy. The location on the square means hearing the pub goers and other late night activity. The room also was not soundproof. You can hear every conversation in the hall, every toilet flush, every clanging hanger. Even the otherwise lovely lobby has a regular incessant beep (that the clerk could not address). I would stay here again though, but would simply request a quieter room on the backside of the hotel.
Review 58:Excellent location right off Clifden's main square. Friendly and helpful staff. The furnishings aren't new and somewhat worn, but the room and bed were comfortable. Very affordable.
Review 59:Rooms clean, but beds very hard.Bathrooms clean but in need of facelift .
Review 60:Excellent location in Clifden to attend events.Hotel comfortable . Staff courteous and generally helpful.Breakfast ample.
Review 61:Going home
Review 62:Excellent location comfortable and friendly hotel staff very helpful, especially the young lady serving breakfast, clean rooms comfy beds excellent value for money, will be back next year
Review 63:the only thing I did not like was the situation of a generator outside my window. This hummed all night and as the weather was so warm I could not close the window to block it out.
Review 64:apart from the generator outside my bedroom window that made a humming noise all night I really enjoyed my stay here. the food was plentiful and well prepared, the rooms were clean and both ladies at the reception were really great. the hotel is in a great situation very close to the islands and beaches and loads of walking opportunities.
Review 65:Just the twos days I was there no hot water but it was a default on a switch which they couldn't prevent so other then that it was good but expensive
Review 66:Bed was comfortable , poeple there are great
Review 67:Having to leave..
Review 68:Our trip around Ireland was great. Our stay at this Hotel was the best. Nothing was too much trouble. We ate in the restaurant every evening really good food.It is run by a lovely family. Who along with their staff couldn't do enough for us advising best places to go etc.We wish them every success.
Review 69:There is no secure parking at the hotel. The impression given by their ad was that there was some parking. But you take pot luck on the street. That's not good enough
Review 70:The hotel is well situated
Review 71:The view from our room on the first floor was blocked by another part of the hotel, and the breakfast staff was ridiculously slow. The bathroom door did not lock. Minor points overall though.
Review 72:This is a good value hotel for the price. The location is excellent, although to be honest the city of Clifden is so small that most accomodations are within a block of the central square. The friendly and helpful staff helped us with dinner options even though the hotel also has a restaurant. The breakfast was good too.
Review 73:rooms are dull furniture, curtains and carpets are like something from the 1950s bathroom very small and a bit grubby
Review 74:location was the main good point
Review 75:Although from the outside the hotel doesn't look too inviting, once inside it is transformed into a very nice place to stay. We ate in the dining room and enjoyed the musical duo.
Review 76:The lock on the bathroom door was broken
Review 77:The staff were particularly friendly, helpful and informative...we did not have transport and received suggestions regarding site seeing. Perfect and central location. Very good value for money. I personally think they could invest in a little 7-12 seater mini bus to include small private tours, this would attract more custom.
Review 78:Price of food. Poor wifi
Review 79:Stayed here one night and was quite happy. Nice room and bathroom. Pleasant staff and great location right in the middle of town.
Review 80:Some very loud people from county Clare staying on our second night. Middle aged men . Must not get out too often . Loud loud loud
Review 81:Very comfortable . Lovely breakfast served up to us ,so it was freshly cooked and not sitting like in a buffet . Friendly staff.
Review 82:Nothing really...was there for pony show...would have liked a longer stay..
Review 83:LOCATION....right in the centre of all the action...interesting shops and fun pubs...picturesque walk to pier.. STAFF...friendliness of staff hard to beat...so kind and nice. BEDS....beds and pillows were very comfortable..
Review 84:The price for what you get is far too much. The rooms and hallways are in need of modernisation. The hotel is stuck between modern chic and ye olde type without hitting the target on either.
Review 85:The location of the hotel in the town is very good, the bathrooms were very clean and useable. A nice foyer to relax and read a paper or plan your day.The food was very tasty and the staff were friendly and willing to help.
Review 86:All staff that I met were efficient and good. What made the greatest i impression on me was the friendliness of all staff that I encountered. You also serve a great breakfast. regards John Meskell
Review 87:No on-site parking but on street parking is only a few euros.
Review 88:Central, the quality of the food is excellent, prompt and courteous service, good entertainment and quality decor and atmosphere.
Review 89:Breakfast was very disappointing. Just a couple of choices on the main table.. When u compare this tonother hotels I'm afraid this comes in way down my list.. To my surprise there's no lift.. There's two floors so for anyone who has knee or back trouble make sure u ask for a ground floor Rooney on booking...
Review 90:For location u can't beat this hotel.. It's right in the centre of clifden and within easy access of all the pubs and shopping areas.. Room was nice and we had asked for a quiet spot which they gave us...
Review 91:The hotel doesn't look very nice from the outside but once you go in it's actually a lot nicer.
Review 92:The staff were very friendly. The hotel was nice. I liked the cozy bar.
Review 93:The room/bathroom badly needs a make over. The view from the room was dreadful. It was very difficult to turn the key in the bedroom door to lock.
Review 94:Convenient location in the town centre. The room was quiet.
Review 95:when we arrived we were greeted by a less than friendly member of staff. something i found unusual , we had to pay for our room before we got the key. This set the tone i felt for our stay. did they not trust their customers or was there something wrong with the accomodation? and lastly the parking facitities were very poor..
Review 96:the breakfast was top class. hot and freshly cooked. the staff in the restaurant were more than helpful. rooms very clean and bar was snug and a nice atmosphere .
Review 97:Hotel is of poor standard and would not rate it 3 star..No air conditioning and noise level from the street was unbelieavable. The hotel needs a complete revamp and staff unfriendly.
Review 98:Location
Review 99:Central location meant that rooms on the front too noisy at night to have windows open and it was quite warm during our stay. Bath towels designed for smaller guests that us!
Review 100:Location in the centre of Clifden, gave a vantage point for good people watching! Delicious and good value food both breakfast and dinner Live Irish music at dinner Plesant foyer for sitting and relaxing Free wi-fi Very good staff
Review 101:tired hotel, musty smell, aircon noise outside room, a little pricey at E90 for a double room b&b, could be cleaner
Review 102:breakfast was good, location is good, plenty of on street parking
Review 103:main door to bedroom had to be pushed open as it was catching on carpret, there was a strong smell of damp in bedroom, in the main bar and also going up the stairs which was masked by airfreshners and there was a damp patch on roof of bedroom also damp patches around and above window of bedroom, curtains very dated need to be changed, there was no loo roll in the ladies toilet beside reception
Review 104:the location
Review 105:No carparking arrangements but on street seems safe enough. Hotel itself a bit dated. Wi fi only works in downstairs foyer. No lifts given age of hotel.
Review 106:Hotel is situated right in centre of town making access to shops, restaurants, etc really easy.
Review 107:Could do with a lift - stairs a bit of a put-off.
Review 108:Friendly management and staff
Review 109:Water not hot
Review 110:Great location , nice room. Friendly staff
Review 111:3 men next room talking loud at 3am.had to knock on door and still they did not stop.No answer from reception tried to phone
Review 112:convenience
Review 113:Great location, very friendly staff and extremely good value. Will stay here again. Very comfortable nicely furnished room also.
Review 114:I thought it lacked ambience .
Review 115:Location was good . Room was v clean . Can't complain
Review 116:Excellent location
Review 117:Beautiful hotel
Review 118:a little pricey
Review 119:convenience to events during arts festival
Review 120:The friendly staff, homely bar area.
Review 121:Unnecessary extra charge for a herbal tea at breakfast.
Review 122:Great central town location.
Review 123:being ignored in the dining room,as the only diner, whilst advertising shoot occurred.
Review 124:location
Review 125:We thought the staff were a little cool
Review 126:Central location
Review 127:The room allocated to use was bad. Did not have any view. We were looking at walls
