Reviews for Rose of York
Review 1:The Rose of York is situated a bit far from the Tube, but there are buses outside the door.
Review 2:Friendly and helpful staff, cozy rooms and dining area, nice food, clean rooms, good beds, beautiful location! We had a great stay for 3 nights at "The Rose of York", and will definitely visit again.
Review 3:No atmosphere in the bars/restaurant. One young lad left to do the check in and the bar and serve the food. Had to pay a fee for paying by debit card for food.
Review 4:Good views to the River Thames
Review 5:No problems.
Review 6:Great room with three beds. Comfortable and quiet in a very convenient location. Easy walks along the river and into Richmond. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Review 7:All aspects of the food service was very poor. We ordered dinner and mine arrived. I tasted the fried potatoes and there was an awful taste of stale oil. My wife's meal did not arrive at the same time and while we waited my food was going cold. After asking twice where the other meal was we gave up, paid for our drinks and walked out. The following morning we decided against a full english and ordered toast. Would you believe it arrived burnt!!! Thank goodness we BOOKED one night only.
Review 8:Excellent riverside location and we could take the dog.
Review 9:There were no televisions in any of the rooms and not even one for group viewing in the public bar or restaurant area of the hotel, which meant that the whole premises was tv-free. It wasn't clear why this was the case.
Review 10:Beautiful views of the River Thames. An easy drive or taxi ride into Richmond for shopping, cinema, Kew Gardens, etc.
Review 11:The hotel was in the perfect place for us and very comfortable. We were happy with continental breakfast but I think they should tell clients what was planned when they book.
Review 12:Can't understand why there are no TV's in rooms even though our room had an aerial socket. Very unusual not to have this option
Review 13:Location ideal for London visitors
Review 14:No TV in room, didn't think to check for this as have used this hotel on other occasions and always had a TV
Review 15:Great parking for the installers van and trailer
Review 16:Room was fine but window could of done with updating, as was a little draughty and noisy.
Review 17:Ideal location for a wedding we were attending down the road. Lovely views. Breakfast was nice and friendly staff,
Review 18:The plumbing made a noise all night which meant that I didn't sleep that well. A shelf in the shower would be helpful to hold toiletries for those of us who struggle to bend down to floor level!
Review 19:The staff were very helpful and friendly. They all wanted to help get our visit right...even offering to carry bags up to room. The room was very clean and tidy. The biccy's and drinks were very welcome. Although it is close to the road we did not hear any road noise from our room (8)
Review 20:I've stayed at the Rose of York a number of times before and it has always been pleasant and uncomplicated. It's an easy walk into Richmond with all its facilities, restaurants, pubs etc. Especially pleasing are the view of the "Turner bend" in the River Thames from Room 3, overlooking Petersham meadow; replicas of Turner paintings in the atmospheric bar and dining area, a proper fire in the fireplace; an excellent choice of Samuel Smith beers with particularly tasty lagers; good breakfast. It's also a great escape from "media intrusion" - no television in the room, although wi-fi available free of charge. Sometimes, when you are on holiday, no news is good news.
Review 21:My car was broken into during daylight hours. There is no CCTV in the outdoor carpark, less than 30 seconds walk from the pub entrance. On Sunday morning by 9am they had run out of eggs. How does a B&B who knows the range of what they cater for run out of eggs?
Review 22:close to river and Richmond High Street
Review 23:No TV in the room. I had been offered an upgrade the day before for an extra charge. As the pub was virtually empty when I stayed, it would have been nice to have been given a free upgrade. It would have made all the difference as to whether I would stay again.
Review 24:Friendly staff, nice but small room. Meals were good.
Review 25:Room was accessed by external steps to the first floor. We arrived in the evening and in heavy rain, so carrying bags to our room was not the easiest of tasks.
Review 26:Friendly staff. Room was clean and warm, and value for money for the location. Lovely view of the park and river from our window.
Review 27:We happened to choose a room (no 5) facing onto the main road, so there was constant traffic noise. There are rooms away from the road, best ask for one of those. Mattress a bit springy and not very supportive. Considering we paid half the price the following night for a similar sized room elsewhere, this was expensive for what you get. Beer £5.50 a bottle, would expect to pay around £3.50. Welcome to London!
Review 28:We wanted somewhere with parking with easy access to the Piccadilly line, so this was ideal - a mile walk from Richmond station. They also served food downstairs in the pub, so ideal as we were arriving late evening. We had a complaint about the bath not being usable and they gave us a partial refund, so credit to them for sorting our issue. They also let us park the car there for the day for free.
Review 29:We had 4 rooms for a family reunion with our adult children and their partners - it was just right for our purpose, being close to London and with easy driving and car parking for those who live further afield. Lovely views across the Thames.
Review 30:Liked ability to park foc close to Richmond. Friendly welcome & good breakfast included. Lovely view of Thames & Water meadows. Double glazed so road noise at a minimum.
Review 31:No tv in the room, shower was very dirty I had to clean some of it myself, the shower head wouldn't stay in position. The bathroom really could do with a re-furb or at least very good deep clean. Surprised not to be offered a new room, a refund or at least discounted rate.
Review 32:location was the only thing ideal about this stay as I was meeting friends in Richmond town centre.
Review 33:Shower didn't work. No hot water. Small warm breakfast. No TV in room. Staff didn't care. So dissaponting.
Review 34:Good location and free parking. Nice and clean.
Review 35:Window was swollen and wouldn't close, door lock was temperamental, infestation of ladybirds (although rather that than spiders!) no TV and the hairdryer unit was hanging off the bathroom wall. Breakfast was mediocre at best, dirty glass used to hold the menu and grubby fingernails on the guy that served it to us. With a little bit of time, effort and investment, this could be a lovely place to stay.
Review 36:Nicely decorated, comfy bed, good shower and good location. Plenty of parking so we could leave the car there while we walked into town.
Review 37:The stairs to the rooms we're outside and uncovered so it was quite a hazard using them in the rain . And although all the staff were helpful there was one member of staff who thought my questions were too much bother ! A shame really
Review 38:The food was excellent first rate and very quick : the location was very good with a lot of parking - helpful staff from housekeeping to the breakfast staff ?
Review 39:No real negatives. It's a fairly basic pub-with-rooms type hotel, but was clean and comfortable
Review 40:Great location, right next to Richmond park. Free parking. Breakfast included. Nice and quiet
Review 41:No tv, but then, I should have read the details! One just assumes.............. Being in room 1, which was up stone steps, quite narrow, with a slippery handrail. As an 80 year old, and on a rainy day, I felt a roughened handrail would have been an improvement.
Review 42:My room had a superb view
Review 43:Would have liked a radio or tv or some reading material to borrow on landing? A breakfast menu would have been nice...
Review 44:The location,parking, peacefulness,comfortable bed,excellent poached egg.
Review 45:A minor point, but standard little plastic containers of jam, marmalade etc for breakfast when mini jars or ceramic pots would be so much nicer!
Review 46:Good views, handy location, pleasant room, polite & helpful staff.
Review 47:Uncomfortable bed, very small room with limited facilities. No TV n room or in the hotel. Very hot and couldn't open windodws.
Review 48:locaion. Close to river with an eay riveer ealk to town
Review 49:No tv in room. Outside access to room. Old biscuit wrappers on floor---missed by cleaner I guess?
Review 50:Location. Price. Breakfast included. Free parking. Lovely view of river. Bath as well as shower.
Review 51:Staff were unable to provide a receipt on checking in. Bedroom, door lock was in need of replacement, unable to open the windows or indeed close them properly, bathroom extractor fan run all night. Bathroom, hair dryer was hanging off the wall, shower head could not be used in the wall fitting as it was broken. Breakfast, coffee was served in a glass dispenser with a broken spout, had to be replaced, food was third rate.
Review 52:Good car parking facilities
Review 53:Not use to the noise of traffic, but that was the only down side, otherwise excellent stay for the rugby.
Review 54:Easy to walk into town and a lovely walk along the river, beautiful place.
Review 55:Breakfast was poor Staff serving breakfast was not particularly friendly Surprised there was no TV, didn't read amenities properly, just always presume there is a TV as very basic!
Review 56:Clean and comfy room
Review 57:Lock to room 6 really is a pain in the neck...get it fixed..and both windows..openers broken..
Review 58:Lounge bar very cosy with open fire. Older style country pub..meals approx 8 pound. Staff friendly and helpful
Review 59:Gent serving breakfast didn't speak, just grunted. Shower soak away blocked, was plunged and when we returned back at 9.30pm the room was stinking of drains, disgusting. Eventually the stand in manager got us booked elsewhere as they were fully booked but on returning the following evening our new room was very small, Windows wouldn't open and the heating was on. Didn't sleep as so hot. Spoilt our break completely and would never recommend this to anyone.
Review 60:The room was clean.
Review 61:Quite a lot of noise from busy road and no TV in room - understood to be company policy.
Review 62:Great location with views of the River Thames, only 10 minutes walk from Richmond centre and train station.
Review 63:Hotel has such potential but it hasn't been realised which is such a shame. It could be a really popular pub/hotel if some life could be projected into it. Has ideal position.
Review 64:Ideal situation, close to the river and walking distance to Richmond town. Very reasonably priced for the area and amazingly there was no mark up because of the rugby.
Review 65:First night in room 9 I was kept awake by a constant banging that was probably in the plumbing system. I didn't get to sleep until about 4am and with a long day in prospect I was really unhappy. The toilet in that room took approx 10mins to refill after flushing and was noisy. The towels that are provided are far smaller than most hotels provide and not suitable for us. The breakfast was okay but nothing special.
Review 66:Great location, bus stop outside, comfortable rooms with all expected facilities
Review 67:Food in restaurant only average. Poor selection of wines, no prosecco or pimms. Bad for the ladies.
Review 68:Location, was on bus route so easy access to Richmond town centre and tube station. On bus route to Kew Gardens only 10 mins on bus.
Review 69:We asked for an additional night, but had to change rooms for that night. The new room was smaller, the bed was dreadful, and the bathroom was very tight. This was supposed to be a B&B, but the breakfast was all but inedible. However, the cleaning staff did a super job.
Review 70:The location was rural (outside of Richmond), with lovely views of the Thames, cattle, geese, not to forget, joggers, bikers, walkers.
Review 71:It was what it was. Could have been so much better. I loved the fact that there was no TV in the bedroom
Review 72:Convenient for Twickenham Stadium. Beautiful views and walks along the Thames
Review 73:The bedroom next to the loud road, uncomfortably hot difficult to sleep cause couldnt open the window. creepy and Noisy floor
Review 74:good location near London and Richmond
Review 75:Value for money very low, expecially comparing that you coudl get teh Interconti or Hilton for the same price in Warsaw/Poland
Review 76:- Great location next to River Thames with river-view rooms, park nearby - Breakfast ok
Review 77:Nothing really, except that we were a little too hot in the room because it was such a warm weekend, but managed to open the windows which improved things.
Review 78:The bed was very comfortable. The evening meals were very good value for money. The house beers were excellent and also the breakfast which was included in the price..
Review 79:The choice of beer. Comfortable room for our short stay. Location excellent. Helpful and pleasant staff. Thank you We will be returning in the near future.
Review 80:too few staff on duty and the one that was, had to handle everything - reception checking, taking food orders for evening meals, serving drinks from the bar. The poor young chap also seemed poorly trained but tried his very best to be courteous, helpful and he worked very hard. He needs training in how to speak to and treat guests. He was well spoken but made a few errors and remarks that could have upset certain types of people just through lack of experience and handling people.
Review 81:location lovely, and accessible. Good parking
Review 82:No TV in room - not necessarily a bad thing really, I just didn't even think to check that it had one as you don't expect to these days. Room small and basic, but perfectly pleasant.
Review 83:Perfectly located for us and free parking really helped.
Review 84:The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. They work hard but are always ready with a smile. The situation of the hotel is wonderful. Beautiful views and walks in Richmond Park very close by. Although we ate in the hotel itself there are also lots of nice venues about in easy reach. Our stay was a good one ☺️
Review 85:The room was small and did not have the river view as promised. Overall, the hotel had a tired looking appearance and was really a pub with rooms attached. Staff were unable (through lack of maintenance staff) to undertake the simplest of repairs.
Review 86:Location was excellent.
Review 87:only saw two staff, one in the evening on checkin and the other who served breakfast.
Review 88:The room was clean and comfortable as was the bathroom. Good shower. plenty of parking. Temperature in the room just right.
Review 89:No television .Ridiculous as the aerials look installed and after the end of the day you need to rest and watch the TV . Fruit needs to be fresh and not rotten as was the kiwi fruit .Poor selection.Bread was pretty awful ,where are all the lovely UK breads ?
Review 90:Nice view from bedroom window..Good coffeeLoved Richmond pubs with flair ,Lass o Richmond. The Roebuck etc all very well patronised.
Review 91:Room is rather warm, as other reviewers have mentioned. We got over this by opening window and were overlooking courtyard (not road), so it was quiet.
Review 92:Lovely spot near River Thames - probably one of the most rural settings you could find in the London suburbs. Pleasant walk into Richmond - along the river or through the gardens on Richmond Hill. Plenty of parking. Good English breakfast. Nice sized room for us and our two boys. Ample storage space for clothes.
Review 93:Room was quite hot. Poor selection on wine list Pub was understaffed - felt sorry for the staff on duty who were doing there very best to attend to a busy pub.
Review 94:Great location for walking Thames Path. Friendly staff Good basic pub food, very reasonably priced
Review 95:For reasons unkown, our reservation, confirmed by Booking.com, could not be found by the reception on our arrival. Still, we got a room, but had to change rooms from day 2. Our first room was very small and basic, with a bathroom not quite up to modern standards. The second room was noticeably better, but still rather modest. Poor noise insulation, both within the hotel and against traffic noise.
Review 96:Very pretty location just outside Richmond which is within walking distance from the hotel. Scenic footpath along the river bank. Bus stop just next to hotel. Nice rural view from our hotel room of the River Thames and meadows. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Nicely decorated pub and restauraunt, as well as outdoor terrasses on both sides of the old, pleasant building offering tasty food and a solid English breakfast.Relaxed and friendly ambience.
Review 97:It was incredibly hot when we stayed, so hot that very few people in our party could sleep. I got only about 3 hours sleep. It was so hot that the we needed to keep the windows open which meant the road noise was then unbearable. Something has to be done about the heat at this hotel for hot summer days.
Review 98:Great location and views
Review 99:No complaints really, but it would of been nice to have a t.v in the room, especially as I was travelling alone. Because of this I chose to go out for my evening meal instead of eating in, which would of been my preferred choice. The arm of the window fell off when I opened it, the screws where obviously very loose. I stayed in room 8. Not a complaint, just an observation.
Review 100:Location v.good and gentleman serving breakfast very polite and helpful
Review 101:Our room was very warm, but it was the summer. No TV in the room, while not really a problem as it was great to get away from it all, would have been nice - but we didn't really miss it.
Review 102:Friendly and helpful staff. Rooms very clean, tidy and comfortable. A great location, excellent views of the river. A short walk in to Richmond where there are loads of great places to eat. Walk either along the road or along the river. Great for getting in to London as tube / railway is only 20 minutes walk or a short bus ride.
Review 103:Room was uncomfortable due to excessive heat. Could not provides fans and was told to keep windows closed due to bugs Checked out.
Review 104:Staff was friendly and helpful.
Review 105:The location! Five minutes from the river and great walking paths in either direction. No 65 bus comes by frequently and was handy for getting to and from the station.
Review 106:Is a 25 min trot from the nearest train station but very handy bus stop once you get the hang of the routes. Worth noting no that there's TV in room but this was not a problem at all for us.
Review 107:Really comfortable, clean room, lovely view over fields and location next to the Thames meant easy walks by the river. Didn't realise Richmond was such a pretty area. All pub facilities available.
Review 108:This is about booking.com and not the venue. My requests were not passedon about some mobility issues which if it wasn't for the extremelyhelpful staff would have been a major issue - please ensure notes arepassed on the suitability of the hotel for these issues fully made ofaware of before confirmation...
Review 109:Extremely helpful staff and very clean facilities.
Review 110:The room was very hot. Would have been good to have a fan in the room in the absence of air conditioning.
Review 111:Location was excellent and price was very reasonable.
Review 112:Road was a little noisy but double glazed didn't mind though because of view.
Review 113:Friendly obliging staff good food reasonably priced and beautiful river view from room.
Review 114:The food was very basic, although not bad. Perhaps a more interesting menu.
Review 115:In a very good position to get to places of interest and also for getting into Richmond for the rail links.
Review 116:Room with a great view of the Thames above a busy road. No aircon so we had to keep the windows open on a very hot night. Frequently woken by buses and other noisy vehicles.
Review 117:Pleasant pub hotel. Convenient for event at Kew Gardens. Decent breakfast.
Review 118:Room hot. Left windows open when out for the day but they were closedwhen we returned. Road noise when window open overnight
Review 119:The view - wow loved it. Meadow/cows and The Thames. Breakfast wasgreat. Overall a very relaxing holiday
Review 120:No a/c or fan in room only option to open window which was noisy as on the road so felt very hot at night
Review 121:Room comfortable otherwise and location abit away from the town but a nice walk along the river
Review 122:If you're used to road noise then you're ok. If you're not, or you don't want any - it could be an issue. No air-con means you might need window open, leaving you exposed to road noise and smoke from smokers outside.
Review 123:No staff around. Only one person working in the kitchen and one on the bar and desk. Way too hot in summer! We found a good way of keeping cool was leaving our door open and window for a breeze through. Would not put us off.
Review 124:Really nice location and walking distance to shopping which was nice. Young girl that served us was really nice. Good value for money!
Review 125:No tv in rooms (child not happy!), nor a phone to call reception (or incase of a fire!). Access to rooms is via outside steps - not ideal in wet weather and no offer of help to get bags upstairs (a very nice customer helped us though). there is a 'smell' of fried food in the hallways but not so in bedrooms (although faint whiff of smoke). Windows didnt latch properly so couldnt leave windows open overnight and room was very stuffy without it which didnt give us a good nights sleep. Overall it could do with some refurbishment but this is reflected in the room rates.
Review 126:Location is great and onsite bar / food is useful after a tiring day. No 65 bus stop is outside hotel and access to river is across the road and richmond t/c a short walk. Ample free car parking. Pub was quiet so no noise at night. Breakfast pretty good for price and room was clean.
Review 127:nothing to tell us how to access the wifi; hardly any staff - was kept hanging around waiting for service frequently; inadequate tea/coffee facilities for 2 people
Review 128:the beer and food was good
Review 129:Old ,tired decor but not a problem if cost the most important thing. Breakfast as expected on a budget
Review 130:Very cheap for a family of 4 in a family room in a pub overlooking the Thames. Ten ten minute walk into town . Fabulous location
Review 131:Manager could be a bit friendly. It is very noisy if you are in a roadside room and if, like us, you need to have the window open, sleep becomes an optional extra!
Review 132:Lovely breakfast.
Review 133:no television in the rooms and our shower was poor. water hot but shower support no good. Why it had been left like that was foolish.
Review 134:Good car parking, near to the river with walks and boat rides. We did not take a boat ride
Review 135:*Access (and I don't have access issues) * Like The Marie Celeste… nobody around. not enough staff * Empty and uninviting * Very noisy in room 1… given ear plugs but cheap and never work. They were obviously prepaired for noise complaints. * No T.V. *No air conditioning or fans to assist (Had to try to sleep all night with windows shut because of insects flying in when windows open.) Hotel should provide fans in event of such hot weather and be prepared. *Tired and aged decor. Like an old golf club. *Empty … hardly anyone there. Doesn't bode well. *In room 1 people coming upstairs could see straight into my room where I was sleeping, so a fine courtesy curtain would be suggested. * Outside doors locked until 8am downstairs so had to sit outside until I could get in for breakfast in the morning. *No sleep most of the night… like sleeping on top of The North Circular on a narrow bed. I had booked a double via Booking.com. So tired the next day and had to work. Used to traffic as I am a Londoner.
Review 136:*Staff tried to be helpful, especially at breakfast.
Review 137:The cleanliness of the room was very poor. The toilet in the room was unclean. The furniture was old with poor decor and quite tatty outside. No television. The resturant where we were sat for breakfast had piles of flies on the windowseal behind where we were sitting. The breakfast did not include options for vegitarians only removed items. I have taken photos of the flies as i was so disgusted. This is an environmental health issue.
Review 138:The location of the hotel was lovely.
Review 139:For the money nothing, close to a main road but where in London is not.
Review 140:Room with a view of the Thames, good bathroom with power shower, spacious clean bedroom. Hot breakfast which was served to you and not a buffet. Bus stop very close with a regular service. easy walk into Richmond.
Review 141:The noise and no TV. The secondary glazing was defective which caused lots of wind noise.
Review 142:The location was excellent, the staff were friendly and helpful, the room was very nice, but too much road noise.
