Reviews for Buttermilk Lodge Guesthouse

Review 1:this is not much, but the shelf over wash hand basin was in the way of my head when shaving. (I survived)

Review 2:pristine condition, friendly, excellent breakfast

Review 3:warm cosy house, can have tea and coffee all the time include some herval teas. still instant and tea bags but enough to warm up with fire. breakfast was amazing, we don't eat gluten and deep fly, sugar but haven't had any problem. generally quite difficult to have our food, they could answer several dietary, moreover yummy.

Review 4:Liked everything.

Review 5:We really enjoyed our 3 Night stay. The peat fire in the loungue is great and the full Irish breakfast. The owners are friendly and helpful.

Review 6:None whatsoever..

Review 7:The whole experience of our stay was a pleasure, from the moment we arrived, tea and cake, to the chocs when Catriona found out we were celebrating our 10th anniversary.

Review 8:The shower did not have enough pressure. No tea and coffee making facilities in the room. (although there is a communal area where you can make tea)

Review 9:The couple were nice, the location was really good for what I needed which was to be close to the town of Clifden. really good value for money. A lovely choice of breakfasts on offer.

Review 10:nothing! it was perfect!

Review 11:- welcoming and warm house. We really enjoyed the cup of tea and piece of homemade cake served in the lobby, when we arrived. - owners very nice, caring and good cooker - decoration with all the little cows :) - location of the house, close to town center

Review 12:One night there was a dog nearby that would not stop barking for a good two hours. I don't know that there's anything that could be done about it, or why on earth the dog was so bothered, it's just one of those things.

Review 13:Owners were very nice and hospitable. Cooked breakfasts were amazingly delicious. Room was very comfortable, even on the colder days.

Review 14:Friendly welcome is your first introduction to buttermilk lodge and this continues throughout your stay. Attention to detail is quite unique, local information excellent down to a walking map of the town, wide and varied breakfast menu including an exquisite caraway seed cake. Would definitely visit again and highly recommend visitors to experience real Irish hospitality at its best.

Review 15:Nothing

Review 16:Would highly recommend staying at buttermilk cottage. The hosts were lovely, room very cosy and spotless and the breakfast was excellent, great choices and just loved the homemade brown bread and scones.

Review 17:Super cute and homely decorated rooms with a bathroom that has everything! Well thought info placed so that you can find as much info as possible :-) Although, lots of people during breakfast. Well managed logistics and service! this was a great stay and I absolutely loved the room and bathroom as it was just like home away with all that you would need :-)

Review 18:Possibly the best B&B I've ever stayed in. Serena is a wonderful host and person and will make your stay as comfortable as possible. Breakfast includes a hot dish made-to-order and a selection of cakes and pastries, jams and curds home made (the cakes are divine). Wifi is powerful, rooms are nicely and tastefully decorated and come with toilet amenities of good quality. While it's not in the town centre, it is not far either (ten minutes on feet, perhaps) and there's a Killarney National Park entrance two minutes away on feet.

Review 19:stayed in ground level room , could hear people walking around upstairs ,and snoring that night . decor of rooms very dated .

Review 20:located near the town , lovely breakfast , friendly staff

Review 21:The welcome coffee, tea etc. The great breakfasts. All the little extras ie.umbrellas, mosquito repellent, weather updates, to name but a few. Catriona and Patrick have thought through everything that people might need and more. An excellent guesthouse.

Review 22:Friendly greeting, lovely room with all the things you needed. Beds very comfortable, quiet location. Breakfast menu had lots of choices. Very accommodating! Close walk to town!

Review 23:Nothing to dislike

Review 24:The location to the town is only a 5 minute walk. The accommodation is very comfortable and the hosts are very welcoming. The rooms are clean and the breakfasts are suburb.

Review 25:Everything. Amazing care for the details about everything. Room, services, staff, breakfast, atmosphere absolutely fantastic. I've never seen anything like this before.

Review 26:The wi-fi connection was rather poor and couldn't connect at all on some occasions. Also the radiator in our room was completely turned off which we weren't made aware off. Returned home after a night out to a cold room:(

Review 27:The location of the lodge is its major advantage. It is only a short walk into the town of Clifden where there are some nice pubs and restaurants for a night out. Also the cooked to order breakfast is great and very efficient service.

Review 28:From the moment we arrived it was clear that we were in good hands as the owner, Catriona, offered us tea or coffee which were ready for us as soon as we had unpacked the car. It was a typically wet windy autumn night so, after a long drive, it was wonderful to sit and sip our tea in the comfort of the clean, spacious visitors lounge and luxuriated in the warmth of a real Connemara turf fire. Catriona came to check if everything was o.k. and we nagged away at her about the Connemara ponies - a special interest of ours - but at no point did she show the slightest sign of impatience but was, instead, upbeat and generous with her information. The cleanliness, comfort, warmth and spaciousness of the visitors lounge, extended to our bedroom too. A detailed file on walks in the area, carefully written compiled by Catriona herself, made excellent bedtime reading. The next morning, after a perfect breakfast, we went for a walk along Kilarry fjord, which Catriona's notes had recommended was ideal if the weather was windy or misty i.e. not really suitable for the mountains. Sure enough, even though a strong wind was blowing, most of our walk was completely sheltered and therefore that much more enjoyable. It is this kind of attention to detail which goes above and beyond the basics of cleanliness and comfort, and of which I could give many other examples, which sets this B&B apart from many of the others I've stayed in.

Review 29:What was not to like? We were given a warm welcome along with tea and delicious homebaked boiled cake in the lounge. Our bedroom was spacious, spotless and quiet and the bed was so comfy. The breakfasts were amazing - there was such a variety of food - such as 4 types of juice, fruit and yogurts, fresh fruit, homebaked scones and breads, ham and cheese and an extensive menu of cooked breakfasts. There were even daily "specials". Cathriona and Patrick were very friendly and the town centre was about a 5 minute walk away. 2 nights were not enough!

Review 30:Great breakfast, large comfortable room and friendly staff. Liked the small details such as menus for the local restaurants. Good wifi and parking. 10 to 15 minute easy walk into town.

Review 31:I found the cow theme truly terrifying ... Brings obsession to a new level (but only in a good way!)

Review 32:Really beautiful house with lovely clean rooms and cow-themed throughout! Cup of tea or coffee as soon as we arrived and rooms were spotless with comfy beds! Terrific breakfast in the morning with options other than a Full Irish Fry-Up (great when watching your figure!). Great local knowledge of walks - perfect location for the Connemara National Park!

Review 33:Everything. When we arrived we had a nice fire in the fireplace to get the chill off. All the amenities were there (Kleenex, clock, wash clothes, shampoo etc) that were spotty in some of the others. The food was excellent and Patrick could not have been more accommodating! Thank you

Review 34:Room little on small size, felt a little cramped. Little small tv with poor TV reception. If staying for more than a days may not be ideal site.

Review 35:Clean, on main highway, easy to find, close to town center. Great food.

Review 36:Nothing negative to say!

Review 37:Location , 5 mins to town. Lovely guest house, spacious lovely breakfast area. Fantastic breakfast. Friendly hosts. Ample parking

Review 38:The fact that we couldn't stay longer

Review 39:Experience at running a B&B showes through. Hosts Patrick and Katrina were brilliant in all respects. A great place to stay, in splendid location, easy access to Clifden, but just far enough away to be quiet if required. Thanks you so much for a great few days.

Review 40:On a main road (though not really that busy given it's in the west of Ireland!) A room at the back of the house would probably be better.

Review 41:Warm welcome with tea and cake and a hive of useful information. Easy walk to town centre.

Review 42:We couldn't stay there longer!

Review 43:Near town. Professional. Immaculately clean. Laundry service - in by10am and back in the room, nicely folded, before 5pm! Attention todetail. Amazing cooked breakfast and delectable breakfast bar inaddition'

Review 44:Nothing. I really can't think of any way my experience at the Lodge could have been any better.

Review 45:Everything. Friendly, efficient and caring. Very good food and a lovely room. Didn't need the wi-fi. The emphasis on cows is amusing.

Review 46:I have nothing negative to say about my stay at Buttermilk Lodge.

Review 47:I was offered a pot of tea and cookies in the beautiful lounge upon arrival-always a nice touch after being on the road (which involved a flat tire this time). I enjoyed the numerous cow items scattered everywhere, including the edge of the steps. The B&B had Everything one might need in the room. Example: cotton balls, Q-tips, room freshener, outlet adaptor & homemade sewing kit. They even had a luggage scale to use-so helpful! The home is located within a few minutes stroll to the Main Street with shops and pubs, but set back from the road...so quiet and peaceful.

Review 48:Lovely atmosphere. Beautifully clean and loved the collection of cows. Lovely lady and a hearty breakfast. Highly recommended and hope to visit again.
