Reviews for The Richmond Hill Hotel
Review 1:We had trouble with our booking the rooms were all arranged wrong There was a smoke smell in one room but they did move us
Review 2:Staff were very helpful Food was very good
Review 3:The room, although newly decorated was very small. Everything was squashed in and with a wall & a cabinet within 20cms from your pillow it was like sleeping in a box.
Review 4:Not applicable
Review 5:Loved the location, close to the town and also the wonderful park. Had a wonderful suite looking out over the Thames. Will definitely be booking again.
Review 6:PAYING £8 FOR CAR PARKING. Sofa bed rather hard.
Review 7:Free wifi, easy to access (no log in). Lovely pool and jacuzzi. Lovely staff (barman running across with glass of water for hiccup-afflicted daughter!) Lovely quiet room - very good soundproofing.
Review 8:spa needs updating, changing rooms scruffy, sauna and steam not working properly for some time according to club members. The full Continental breakfast items were not avl on each morning we were there.
Review 9:Good position for town centre, good food, attentive staff, clean and tidy, comfy lounge areas, nice xmas decorations. COMING BACK
Review 10:The restaurant could use more staff behind the bar in the evenings, they seemed somewhat harried and perfunctory.
Review 11:A pleasant 20 min walk from Richmond Station. Very well presented high quality interiors. Warm and friendly Aussie front desk staff. Comfortable, modern and quiet room with a good use of space.
Review 12:It was a shame that the pool only opened a short time for children on bank holiday Friday, our daughter missed a swim as we weren't advised of the shortened times.
Review 13:The reception staff and restaurant staff were excellent, really helpful and nice. We had a super time with our toddler, and enjoyed the pool too.
Review 14:Location Food
Review 15:I've stayed here before in the new rooms and was very happy This time however we were allocated an old room which I have no problem with character but... Bed was very uncomfortable Bathroom was very discoloured and would not have used bath? 2 inch gap under room door meant that the noise from the corridor felt as though the the door was open Which led to a poor nights sleep and my daughter felt uneasy as every time someone walked past it felt as though they were in the room! We love the location and the heritage of the hotel and the staff were pleasant but the room comfirt lets it down badly
Review 16:Our room was not cleaned very well for the previous guests, I found a chip on the floor and the complimentary water had been opened. Overwise the stay was perfect.
Review 17:Fantastic service, the food was lovely and the staff were welcoming and friendly
Review 18:The maid service wasn't great, didn't collect dirty crockery etc,. Other than that though absolutely loved our stay!!!
Review 19:Perfect location for exploring Richmond!!
Review 20:The facilities at The Cedars was very disappointing. We visited at 2.30 on 31/12 and the swimming pool and jacuzzi tempreture was too low and all around the facilities was dirty. We have stayed here on several occasions and we have never experienced this facility looking so unkempt. Other guests also expressed the same views. The hotel was excellent as always.
Review 21:Everything apart from the leisure facilities at The Cedars.
Review 22:The bathroom had no privacy with frosted glass and no soundproofing.Having to pay £8 for parking as a guest, and the fact that breakfast was so expensive and not included.
Review 23:The location. The bed was very comfortable. The lobby was nice.
Review 24:On 1st day we Reported that neither of the bedside lights worked. No one fixed them. Made it very difficult to use the bathroom at night in the pitch dark. Spa visit very disappointing as not much was in working order. Kids messing about in hydrotherapy pool so we left early. X pensive late bar prices.
Review 25:Food & service excellent. Iced lemon water on reception. Easy parking. Design of modern bathroom. Very comfy beds. Would like to know where to buy the pillows they were amazing!spa hydrotherapy pool.
Review 26:Had disappointing time in the Cedars Leisure club. As the men's changing rooms were being refurbished we had a long walk. Sauna was out of use.
Review 27:Loved the room that we stayed in which was the Georgian deluxe suite. The views overlooking the Thames were superb!
Review 28:The room was so small you could make a cup of tea while sitting in bed. Would never stay here again.
Review 29:The bar and lobby where very nice and the staff where very kind.
Review 30:Restaurant staff in particular very charming and helpful. Food really good, except last morning at breakfast. they ran out of some cooked items 30 mins before end of breakfast time. However they were struggling to cope with volume of people all coming in at the same time and some people returning to the buffet several times. This was also bank holiday after Christmas and some people stayed at tables well after eating. They could have been asked to move to other areas to read newspapers.
Review 31:only negative was the hotel room was hot.
Review 32:Hotel was a good base for visiting Kempton races and Hampton court. - all facilities in the hotel were excellent.
Review 33:No instructions for coffee machine, teabags not replaced and bin not emptied one of the two days. Twin Beds were very firm so back ached next morning.
Review 34:Staff very accommodating for my elderly mother, room and bathroom very nice indeed.
Review 35:Xmas lunch..
Review 36:The spa was closed on Xmas day, this wasn't clear when we made the bookings.. Some of our guests leaving early on Boxing Day didn't get to enjoy the supposly "relaxing" break.. Spa facilities didn't work fully either, the sauna was out of order, some of the showers and so was the drinking machine supplying fresh water.
Review 37:I liked the hotel and decided to stay for a third night over xmas. However, I wasn't keen on the first room they gave me as it was dated, dark and did not have a nice view. Also, there was scale in the loo!! And there was only one usable plug socket. So for my extra night they moved me to another room. They supposedly 'upgraded' me. There was a lovely view from this room, but again it was very dated. There were a couple of large holes in the net curtains (see picture) and rust in the bathroom. Other comments: a none-too-pleasant sandwich in the bar costs £8; a glass of wine is £8.50. And take care asking them to order you a cab to the station as the company they pick will charge you £11.40 to drive the one mile!! Note this trip was made on 27 December and so not subject to any 'double time'.
Review 38:Excellent location, good facilities, helpful staff, nice breakfast, good WiFi.
Review 39:Breakfast service was very poor. Staff walking about clueless, missing items from the buffet breakfast which you had to track a very busy member of staff to ask for including basics e.g. butter, fruit juice.
Review 40:Reasonable price. Attended for a wedding and the catering was reasonable and food generally came to table at the same time, pleasant albeit small room
Review 41:Nothing
Review 42:I was staying one night over Christmas Eve so I could visit family in Roehampton for Christmas Day by walking through Richmond Park. Things I loved about this hotel are: * Excellent location * Friendly helpful staff * Nice breakfast and cappuccino, especially given that this was Christmas Day and there would be nowhere else to go * Room was well provisioned * comfortable lobby to hang out outside of the room * free wifi * ironing facilities in the room I also got a Christmas card and a free chocolate orange from the hotel - thank you
Review 43:Room was old, shabby, and window was broken causing it to rattle and also let in a lot of noise of the parties going on downstairs. We requested to be moved and were met with rudeness and hesitancy from the staff. When someone eventually came to see us they said there was absolutely no other room available to swap to. When we then pushed again as we'd been trying to sleep for 2 hours by that point we were taken to a new room which was already made up and this must have been know from our first enquiry so we were very annoyed.
Review 44:Unfortunately not very much
Review 45:TV did not work - although that did not bother me.
Review 46:Bed very comfortable. Room very clean. Staff friendly and helpful - a pleasure to deal with. Breakfast wonderful.
Review 47:Small issue only one bottle of water in room for 2 people. Lack of breakfast tea bags
Review 48:Staff friendly. Room modern not big but had everything bed was very comfortable
Review 49:Loved absolutely everything from the staff, décor, newly decorated bedroom with mood lighting, power shower, Fab TV with SKY movies and sports great price and location good breakfast with lots of choice....highly recommend this hotel and always will
Review 50:Longish ( 5 minutes or so ) wait for a table at breakfast, slow table service - understaffed for the volume of customers due to a wedding party.
Review 51:Friendly, helpful staff, clean and comfortable.
Review 52:Restaurant furniture shabby not enough seating for guests.... Had to queue for 20 mins Sunday morning. Plates for cooked breakfast cold. Staff could not cope with clearing used tables.. Why would staff be using hoovers at 9am in public restaurant areas noisy and intrusive.
Review 53:Friendly staff welcoming and knowledgeable.
Review 54:The hotel was almost a 45 minute walk from the training venue. There is only one route (road) to the hotel location. Traffic at a certain time of the day during the working week once the park is closed is a nightmare.
Review 55:Isolation, peaceful clean and very tidy. Staff very friendly attentive and very professional. Excellent customer service. Was a breath of fresh air as great customer service in the UK is lacking.
Review 56:Just a note that you have to pay additionally for parking but it's only £8 for 24 hours.
Review 57:The hotel is great and my room was fantastic. Very comfortable and the use of the leisure facilities was an added bonus.
Review 58:Parking including in price would be nice but the charge was reasonable
Review 59:Bed was excellent. Sky TV was an added bonus. Breakfast was best I've had at a hotel. Receptionist was absolutely fantastic, very helpful and welcoming.
Review 60:Disturbed night's sleep coupled with a lack of genuine concern in the problem exemplified by the fact that I sent in an e-mail outlining my complaint and, nearly 3 days later, I'm still waiting for a response.
Review 61:Comfy bed.
Review 62:Bathroom was too cold - inadequate radiator. Th hot water even when turned to the highest setting was warm, certainly not really hot as expected, didnt need to add cold. We had a suite and the bed was a large double ... certainly not the super king or king sixe expected. Had to request a robe and apparently this was not included with the suite - again a surprise. The robe was a simple waffle cloth, not luxurious cotton towelling.
Review 63:The hotel ambience, friendly staff, excellent food, from the dinner included menu. Good bar area.
Review 64:Pool and gym extremely busy almost similar to a public facility to the point where it was barely possible to use the facilities which were of fading quality
Review 65:Good location Staff friendly Good breakfast
Review 66:Room had not been serviced properly but this was quickly rectified. Breakfast was chaotic.there were not enough staff to serve and numerous things such as cutlery, plates and breakfast items had run out.
Review 67:Friendly hardworking staff
Review 68:The deluxe room had two single beds which weren't zipped together and left a big lump in the middle
Review 69:Location, facilities and the breakfast is fantastic.
Review 70:The recently refurbished rooms were a huge improvement . Bijou but cleverly designed , with all the essentials. Bed was so comfortable as was pillows and bedding. Lovely staff and a perfect location!
Review 71:We stayed in a modernised room with very space age bathroom facilities. Its personal taste but we prefer a more conventional bathroom.
Review 72:Convenient location for our purposes, a stones throw from Richmond Park and 15 min walk to the good shops and facilities of Richmond town centre. Nicely decorated 4 star hotel which fulfilled all our needs. Staff friendly and helpful. Nice pub nearby.
Review 73:Very pleasant, warm welcome. They even allowed us to book in early. The room was smartly decorated in a modern style and appeared larger than it actually was. Car parking very reasonable and many places available
Review 74:Fantastic hotel in a good location. Easily walkable to town with tube and train access to London. The rooms were tidy and modern and comfortable. Perfect for our needs as a young couple.
Review 75:Interconnecting door meant we could hear other guests Changed room and perfectly quiet for the next night
Review 76:Location, helpful reception staff, very comfortable beds
Review 77:First room we were allocated was very small and smelt. The car park was very full.
Review 78:After requesting to moved we were moved to a much nicer, larger room
Review 79:Reception staff weren't very impressive at all. On arrival all I was handed was the invoice and no information on what facilities were available for guests, what time or where breakfast was, how to connect to the Internet etc which for me are all basics of good customer service..also find paying for onsite parking when you've paid over 200 for a hotel room a little rich.
Review 80:Hotel was reasonably located for what I needed and room clean and tidy.
Review 81:One reception staff member poorly briefed. Window painted shut, therefore no fresh air. Noisy aircon. Stay overnight therefore hot and dehydrating. Leaky shower hose. Unserviceable towel rail.
Review 82:New decor. Very comfortable bed.
Review 83:In our opinion the hotel did not really cater for guests with mobility problems, Stairs to get to the reception to check in and initially to get to the room. Once in the room there was a drastic change in floor level. There were two small notices warning of this but were not in an obvious position. Not really suitable for guests that have difficulty walking on flat surfaces.
Review 84:A large comfortable bedroom with requested disable facilities
Review 85:Paying extra for parking and breakfasts. Also the car park barrier did not work when we were leaving.
Review 86:Very nice large room use of health club good food.
Review 87:my room was in the older part of the hotel; there was no heating either to the radiators in the corridor, nor particularly in the room and my stay was on a particularly cold night. There was an obvious drop in temperature by several degrees once you stepped from the newer areas to the older block. Woken by extremely noisy group of women at 3am running up and down the corridor.
Review 88:Location! It looks like a lovely hotel to make a longer say at, and to sample the dining and leisure facilities on offer.
Review 89:We couldn't really comment as we couldn't check in A the wedding started At 1.30 and came back in at midnight .
Review 90:Having. Balcony and breakfast in the room although I thought it was a bit expensive.
Review 91:Toilet and shower not very private as smoked glass is used which is fine until you have lights on. Bar was tidy but dated requires some refurbishment.
Review 92:Bed was very comfortable, room had everything in it as stated.
Review 93:Booked a very early alarm call but it didn't happen, good job i set my mobile alarm. Had a bit of difficulty finding the room didn't think the signage was that good.
Review 94:Very comfortable bed, extra t bags and milk were very much appreciated.
Review 95:Poor view from bedroom - could see into the kitchen below and there was a lot of noise even during the night because if our room location in the hotel. Food and room service was rather expensive and nothing out of the ordinary quality wise.
Review 96:Got a free upgrade to a more premium room as it was vacant. Staff were friendly and helpful with any requests. Breakfast is worth the cost!
Review 97:Very noisy hotel on Saturday night due to live music at wedding. Revellers outside very noisy singing etc. Small hotel so no escaping noise. Fine for adults but not suitable for young kids trying to sleep.
Review 98:Checkin and front desk staff very welcoming, attentive and efficient. Room size was very good for London. Location was excellent. Dinner was very good.
Review 99:Room was a bit nippy at night with no heating in sight
Review 100:The staff were great and organised my special request very well! Excellent service. Will be back soon
Review 101:I found the shower in room 566 to be very low as I am 6 feet tall. The sloping floor in the bathroom was disconcerting.
Review 102:It all added up to a very pleasant all round stay
Review 103:It was very noisy throughout the night and early morning. We could hear the guest above us walking around on the squeaky floorboards. Very frustrating. Not a great nights sleep for what was supposed to be a relaxing weekend.
Review 104:Love staying in Richmond and this charming hotel is well located being near to the village and the park. Ideal for accessing Twickenham stadium of course. Great stay.
Review 105:I appreciate that the World Cup was on at Twickenham on the Saturday but the price of the room was 3 times that of the price for the previous evening?
Review 106:We were able to book in a little earlier and the staff were very helpful. We have stayed here before and the hotel is perfectly placed near the gates of Richmond Park and on the top of Richmond Hill where you get a fantastic view of the Thames etc.
Review 107:On arrival assigned to smaller room than booked. But, worse was air conditioning was on and couldn't turn off. Room freezing. Moved to bigger room. Air con the same. Rang Reception. Would send someone to fix it. waited. Rang again. Another wait in freezing room. Night porter couldn't fix it. Then helpful and got us another room with heat. But, it was 40 mins after check-in, after 10pm, on day of daughter's wedding. Very disappointed in hotel. Breakfast ok, usual corporate hotel with awful premade lukewarm coffee.
Review 108:location
Review 109:Open bathroom design should have been made clear, deluxe room should have been bigger for money, fridge was useless. Breakfast rooms were overcrowded and service slow.
Review 110:Great location right next to the park and turners bend, only a short walk to town and the station. Leisure centre was great.
Review 111:Ancient plumbing was noisy at night (room 339). Shower: drain was blocked. Inadeqate water pressure. Breakfast was too expensive for poor quality and limited choice. Bread was awful, not enough fruit. Bed linen also poor quality. No complimentary toiletries, no bathrobe. Tea/coffee in room also poor quality
Review 112:Being walking distance from Richmond and Kew.
Review 113:I was disappointed with the view. Onto the back parking lot.
Review 114:The service from the all the staff, particularly Anna Marie and Rashid was outstanding. The entire staff were exemplary and could've the subject of a business case study in client service. I own a business the is very client centric and I am thus constantly aware of service levels. The staff were warm. Welcoming efficient proactive solution orientated with a sense of urgency but relaxed and casual. Making for a wonderful atmosphere. I really appreciated the particular attention paid to my dietary requerments. The hotel has been very successfully modernized while keeping an old world feel. My room was small but not too small. The design was clever. I was very comfortable.
Review 115:No soap!!! Anywhere! Not even to wash your hands which was poor. Otherwise pleased with the room and facilities. Not overly keen on the ensuite design - not a lot of privacy for toilet needs!
Review 116:Extremely expensive for the size of the room and the quality of the r suite bathroom which was 'tired'. View over a car park which again for the cost of the room was disappointing. Breakfast average.
Review 117:Fantastic location
Review 118:The restaurant / bar doesn't have much ambience and could use some sprucing up.
Review 119:Staff is very friendly and helpful. Room was beautiful with very comfortable bed and good quality linen.
Review 120:Noise transfer between rooms is appalling, if the person in the room above you simply walks their room, it sounds like dancing elephants. If you are looking for a quiet night, this hotel is not the one.
Review 121:In almost all ways, a really lovely hotel.
Review 122:The room was much smaller than advertised, and the bathroom shower did not turn off!! When it was on, it was very light water pressure. We arrived early, and it felt like this was the "spare" room that is not pre-booked and given to people arriving early. Next time, we'll go back to the desk and request something else.
Review 123:Good location. Decent breakfast choices, but expensive for what is offered.
Review 124:Possibly because of the recent refurbishment hotel management has overlooked updating the room descritption on booking.com i.e. Superior room did not have a king bed or balcony. Balcony not important to us but King bed was the main reason we booked a Superior room at this hotel.
Review 125:Lovely clean, newly refurbished accommodation. Very comfortable bed and great shower. Christopher on the front desk very helpful in upgrading us to a larger room with king bed.
Review 126:Take your own hair dryer - the one provided is very small and slow
Review 127:After an initial mistake with our room booking the duty manager (Michael) arranged a new room for us, even moving our belongings - excellent service and a very helpful manager
Review 128:The bed did sag a tad in the middle, but the pillows/duvet all lovely. Not overly convinced about the loo/shower set up. Would be nice to have a completely separate shower room/wc with a decent door, not a slightly see though glass partition. We ordered room service and the sandwiches could have actually had both sides of the bread buttered, some mayo and also some cucumber which would have helped it no end - not my favourite a dry tuna sandwich, but managed to cheer it up with the condiments! Other than that - all very nice.
Review 129:Super location and a nice looking hotel. Very clean and staff were very friendly.
Review 130:The inflated price because there was a rugby world cup game on at Twickenham. Normal price £103, rugby day price £240.
Review 131:Location was perfect for Twickenham on Saturday night and walking in Richmond Park on Sunday morning.
Review 132:The glass surrounding the toilet and shower. It was no problem since I was on my own but I wouldn't be happy to stay with someone else.
Review 133:Beautiful room and spotlessly clean.
Review 134:We really hated the toilet/shower/ basin arrangements - toilet in a glass box, no privacy of sound or vision - one might have well been in the bedroom -shower ditto, and the small space could have been so much better used, making a perfectly normal small shower room, with basin and toilet. Not acceptable in a hotel of this type.I would not come back to this hotel for this reason,
Review 135:Location
Review 136:Room design is weird with the toilet and bathroom part of the bedroom. Sure, it can be closed off a bit by closing a glass door and movable wall but it's certainly not ideal
Review 137:Clean and comfortable
Review 138:The fact that you had to leave you r card with 50 pound on it.
Review 139:Great location and facilities, friendly and helpful staff.great pool and spa facilities.
Review 140:Stayed in this beautiful hotel as was going to see Frankie Boyle in the evening 10 minutes from hotel. Staff were so friendly, clean classy hotel. Spa facilities were lovely and relaxing. I've stayed in some beautiful hotels and the breakfast was the by far the best, so much to choose from! Wish we could of eaten more! Will definitely be back!
