Reviews for Clarion Collection Richmond Gate

Review 1:Being woken up at 5.30 by bottles being emptied outside my room.

Review 2:Staff were friendly and helpful, room very comfortable and clean, location and value for money extremely good.

Review 3:Great location Rooms although small had everything we needed and were very clean. 2 lounges - and outdoor garden in summer if you spend lots of time in hotel and need some space. We used spa facilities to shower and change as we arrived very early and our room was not available Staff very friendly.

Review 4:Room was not quite in line (smaller & darker) with expectations from photos on booking.com despite changing rooms. Carpets and furnishings are old and tired, needs a refurb. Car parking £5 and breakfast £12 should be included for the price.

Review 5:Late bar, lounge area.

Review 6:Whilst the two gentlemen who checked us in were lovely, we found some of the other staff quite rude. We sat in the bar for ages waiting to be served, around 20minutes later another party arrived and we were just ignored whilst they were served. We were given a double room however we had paid for an exec room - you can tell the difference due to floor size. Whilst I was grateful staff rectified this I couldn't help but feel the hotel was trying to get away with putting people in rooms that were a downgrade for what they paid for. Make sure you check the meter square size of the room you book. On the second night the water stopped in our room for two hours. This was just down to pressure. On the second day we went out at 10:30am, putting the sign on our room to be cleaned. We returned at 2:30pm and the room had still not been cleaned. When you have returned from a long walk around the park to find your room has not been made up and refreshments in your room like tea have not been replaced it was rather irritating. We had to call to get this sorted. I did not feel the breakfast warrants £12/head. The coffee was cold, as were most of the items in the silver dishes. The gentleman taking people to tables could do with smiling too. These are not major issues, but the hotel has the potential to be so much better if these small things were looked at. Overall I did enjoy my stay, but for the cost of the rooms, I was disappointed that the service was not better.

Review 7:The two staff who checked us in were brilliant. - two chaps who I could not fault. Once we had the room we paid for it was lovely. Decoration nice and so was the gym. Location is great too. The entrance and general feel of the hotel is lovely. The old part of the hotel is much more pretty. Despite some negative experiences overall I did enjoy my stay and would come again.

Review 8:No hotel information in rooms, ie reception phone number, checkout time, breakfast times, prices etc. But very friendly staff did advise, if you went to reception and asked.

Review 9:The location and friendly staff.

Review 10:I stayed with my mum over Christmas. The staff is extremely friendly and very helpful. The position is excellent, just near Richmond Park. The room was very comfortable, with everything you may need, and the bed very comfortable as well, which is not always the case in hotels. I would definitely go back.

Review 11:Wanted to eat at the restaurant in the hotel but was told it opens only at 8 pm So we had to go the neighbouring hotel for dinner. Wondered why it starts dinner so late ?

Review 12:Proximity to Richmond Park Easy access to town and tube with bus Walking along the road had great views of the trees and houses along the river Spacious , clean, good spacious bathroom , daily changed clean sheets and good quality towels Nice conservatory for breakfast Would like to bring my family to stay there next year for daughter's wedding which is going to be at nearby Pembroke Lodge

Review 13:Elegant hotel, friendly, well informed staff, good car parking. Close to Richmond Park and walks by the river Thames. Excellent breakfast. Room overlooked garden. Good swimming pool and spa.

Review 14:Fantastic. First time I've spent Christmas on my own and I was feeling quite apprehensive, but I was greeted with open arms and it was like being welcomed home by family... I don't usually like to pick my favourite member of staff, but it has to be the guy who worked in the bar (sorry I forgot to ask your name). He is as suave and urbane as a vintage bourbon, has exemplary customer service skills and is a brilliant listener. I really didn't want to leave but I received two hugs as I got into my taxi. Thank you all for giving me such a wonderful holiday. Forgot to mention the food and accommodation. Loved it all.

Review 15:Room quite small, few draws and lacking in storage space. No heated towel rail.

Review 16:Comfortable bed, convenient location and car parking. Extra touches such as mini fridge very useful and Christmas gift appreciated!

Review 17:Room a little on the small side. We had a room only deal so didn't have breakfast - it was a bit expensive to add breakfast separately.

Review 18:Excellent location and the hotel had a characterful feel. Very friendly staff. Comfortable bed. Swimming pool and gym on site.

Review 19:Special events executive was difficult to get hold of and and all our requirements were not met, the updated events plan was not forwarded on to staff but thankfully staff at the hotel came to the rescue and ironed out the issues.

Review 20:Staff at the hotel were amazing and attentive, they went out of their way to assist in all areas.

Review 21:Although nice pool there were baby/toddler swimming lessons going on so not quite the relaxed quiet morning swim we were expecting think these would be more appropriate to take place in the afternoon as with other hotels but appears they go on morning and afternoon so be warned as no space in changing room and no dressing gown or slippers to walk back to walk back to room in. Long walk from tube/rail station up hill if didn't have a car but lovely walk down taking in the view!

Review 22:Helpful staff, nice to have use of pool and gym, also right next door to Richmond Park. Nice bar area.

Review 23:Good location on the edge of Richmond Park, very friendly and helpful staff, leisure and fitness centre accessible from hotel. Rooms quite small but comfortable.

Review 24:Having to leave!! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Review 25:All staff were friendly and very helpful. Our room was peaceful as requested. Dinner and breakfast was delicious. We even had time for a swim in the pool.

Review 26:The price of the room should be reflected in the decor which was a bit tired and had water marks on the wall paper which just seemed a bit grubby.

Review 27:Very friendly and attentive staff, beautifully laid out bathroom. Location is lovely.

Review 28:from the reception to the dining room experience.

Review 29:Attitude of staff was first class. So very helpful at all times, from the reception to the dining room experience.

Review 30:Looking a bit tired in places could do with some redecoration

Review 31:Excellent location for visting Richmond Park and for walking by the river. Really friendly and helpful staff. Lovely comfortable bed and delicious breakfast that kept us going for hours. Would stay again.

Review 32:We didn't like having to pay for the car park- this should be included in the hotel stay.

Review 33:The facilities were great for the price and the location was excellent. The spa was nice too. We would definitely stay again. George on reception was very friendly - what an asset to the company. The other staff were also very helpful and printed tickets for me.

Review 34:A little disappointed that the restaurant was fully booked in the evening although the receptionist recommeded a lovely place close by to us.

Review 35:Lovely comfortable, welcoming hotel in a perfect location.

Review 36:Comfortable friendly hotel in great position, beautiful stroll along Terrace Gardens looking over meadows and Thames into town centre - with plenty of places for pitstops en route.

Review 37:The food and the service in the restaurant was very poor. All other guests dining at the same time as us also complained about the quality of the food and the service. There was no restaurant manager.

Review 38:The hotel was quaint but the staff were poor. No engagement whatsoever.

Review 39:Water went off on the Saturday morning . When we all getting ready to go to daughter s wedding . But we all had to go spa in hotel

Review 40:The house keeper was very kind to get upgrade to bridal suite . It was great as the bride and bridesmaids could all get ready with lots of room

Review 41:Some of the facilities in the pool area were not working. Didn't realise that the breakfast was not included.

Review 42:location and having the use of the pool

Review 43:The whole hotel needs completely gutted and modernised. It is very out of date and it reminded me of a retirement home. The leisure facilities were not as i was expecting after looking at the photos of it online before booking. This is without a doubt the worst hotel iv stayed in.

Review 44:The bed was comfortable enough.

Review 45:It was a Bank Holiday weekend and the hotel was full. This clearly led to some glitches with the collection of some used china from tables and corridors.

Review 46:Despite being incredibly busy the staff without exception were polite, friendly and very helpful reflecting Nick the General Manager who is doing a brilliant job and clearly leads by example. He managed to fit us in for dinner although fully booked and threw in complimentary coffees and delicious chocolate brownies for good measure.

Review 47:The swimming pool ,steam room and sauna were all closed for deep cleaning in August...high season. Expensive drink in the bar and water £3 for a small bottle.

Review 48:Perfect location for a wedding in Richmond Park. Lovely clean room and very friendly staff who are happy to help.

Review 49:Sadly the pool and spa were closed during my stay. (Something that I only found out at check-in). This was very disappointing as it's an excellent facility and I'd booked because of it.

Review 50:We wanted to get a drink around lunchtime. There was no one serving in the bar. Having asked at reception, still no one came - disappointing. Hot breakfast was luke warm in containers.

Review 51:Receptionist very welcoming and helpful.

Review 52:Lack of staff representation when the fire alarms went off at 20 minutes past midnight residents all stood outside the front of the building whilst the fireman went in but no staff members were present to say that we could go back inside or givie an explanation of what was wrong. As it was around 1am when we went back to our rooms I couldn't get back to sleep as I was worried about the alarms going off again due to no reassurance from staff to say it was safe or whether it was just a false alarm. Although this didn't spoil our stay I thought it was the only thing that we didn't like

Review 53:The staff were really friendly and professional the leisure centre facilities were relaxing and very clean. Also the Balcony was a delightful surprise were I had a manicure and my nails painted for a special occasion and was more than happy with the results and service will definitely go again.

Review 54:Music in breakfast room not suitable for average age of clientele - if only more hotels would play classical music, it would add an element of class. Room service took an hour and a half. But they refunded my tray charge. Not all dishes complete so one was taken off my bill. Air conditioning noisy, mould on window, chipped paint / scuffs on walls and TV sound variable depending on channel.

Review 55:Massage facility at spa was great, comfy bed, good location. A warm and professional welcome from female receptionists on front desk.

Review 56:Mildew in the bathroom and peeling paint on the walls. Room was in need of a good dusting.

Review 57:Location is fantastic, but the hotel is dated and in need of cosmetic repair. The cost of the room is overpriced when considering it's tired look.

Review 58:Nothing. The spa could do with sprucing up but as it wasn't the main reason for staying here it didn't really matter

Review 59:Staff very helpful and friendly Breakfast was delicious Location was perfect for the park and the town centre Room was spacious and comfortable

Review 60:Never had to pay for parking at hotel before! I felt breakfast should have been included. Stayed here 9years ago and felt hotel was a bit 'tired' - needs updating; the front/entrance is beautiful could be a stunning hotel with a refurbishment.

Review 61:Location prefect as attended wedding in Richmond park also staff lovely especially lady on reception as we arrived.

Review 62:Breakfast is only average for the extra charge. Cheap packet butter and jam. Cooked food standing - not freshly cooked to order. Bread for toast poor quality. Tea, cereal, fruit etc good Tables and chairs outside awful - 3 different mismatching sets - lack of nice planting which would have made it a fabulous (and money earning) space. No light above desk/dressing table to see papers to work or to put make-up on

Review 63:Fab reception staff and afternoon tea/barman

Review 64:We upgraded from a standard room as we thought the idea of putting a cot bed in a standard room would leave us no room to manoeuvre . We are glad we did as we had friends ( couple no children) that booked the standard room and it was awful! I would only reccommed the superior room in the new wing and breakfast only worthwhile if you are big eaters!

Review 65:Paid for two Mornings full English Breakfasts for two people. I asked atreception about my early departure at 5:30 am. I was told the EnglishBreakfast was not available at that time. That I understood andaccepted.I Was told that if I left the menu that was available at thatearly hour on my door by 10pm the previous night, it would beprovided. The menu still on my door when I left at 5:30am.Reception hadno knowledge of my required breakfast and seemed lost for words. As mytwo nights stay had already been paid for I left somewhat miffed.I Wasnot even given a bill ! Parking is also a problem here.If they have afunction on they let the people attending the function use all theparking. Hotel Residents come second.

Review 66:Nothing.Everything was not anywhere as good as it could or shouldhave been.

Review 67:In Wimbledon fortnight it was rather surprising that the bar was shut and no food available in the evening The hotel urgently needs some redecoration

Review 68:The staff were very helpful and welcoming

Review 69:The Room size was OK but the bed was very hard and lumpy. We asked at Reception for another Quilt to sleep on but this did not appear. Fortunately due to the Very Hot weather we ended up sleeping on the Duvet anyway. Breakfast was nor included in the Room rate which we felt made the Hotel quite expensive, and the actual Breakfast cost of £16 each was much too high. We had breakfast out at local cafe's for half of this cost.

Review 70:The Location of the Hotel in Richmond was very good, a short walk down into the Town. The Leisure Club was useful for a relaxing time after a long day out, however the Steam Room could do with a bit of TLC as it looked a bit messy.

Review 71:Airplane noise and felt that some of the common parts looked in need of a makeover

Review 72:Thought the staff were all very helpful and friendly, and were able to assist with all requests

Review 73:Hotel is an old building so not a lot you can do about layout and no lift(not for disabled clients) to many stairs even on ground floor level. Decor is very tired and in urgent need of a re-vamp

Review 74:Staff could not be more helpful and friendly.

Review 75:Too many steps and zstairs, much too expensive for what's on offer. Bad wifi connection.

Review 76:Being opposite Richmond Park, and the Richmond Terrace Gardens

Review 77:lost earring in pool shower, lifted up corrugated matting to get to it and underneath was full of slimy build-up - wanted to vomit was so bad.

Review 78:Friendly reception and great location

Review 79:The hotel had a wedding over the weekend of our stay and as a consequence we had to wait for a table for breakfast and couldn't eat together due to a lack of space for other guests. The cooked food was cold but to be fair more was brought out when we requested it however we felt like we were being a nuisance and considering we were paying almost three hundred pounds for one nights stay for four of us we feel the service should have been better. It was obvious the wedding had taken over the hotel and it felt that as other guests we were somewhat forgotten. It was a special birthday for my husband and unfortunately it was spoilt slightly by this lack of service.

Review 80:Lovely location and very comfortable and clean.

Review 81:Breakfast was a little "basic" with the cooked food sitting in Warmers for a while - but then again, that didn't dampen the weekend. There were also fruit and pastries to eat so there was at least some choice for diners.

Review 82:Nice location, close to Richmond centre with a lovely view. Staff very friendly too. The pool is good and popular. The gym is a little small but we didn't go there to work out for the weekend!!

Review 83:It needs to state clearly on the website that there is no lift. I have difficulty with stairs and this meant I found the stay difficult. When we arrived and this became clear the staff member was not helpful

Review 84:Liked the breakfast and the Health Clib

Review 85:Bar staff kept disappearing and had to go looking for them to get served. Breakfast was OK but a bit tired/sparse looking

Review 86:Check-in, Check-out and Breakfast Manager were all very polite and friendly. Can't really express too much of an onion as we arrived at 7.30pm and left by 9am.

Review 87:The day we arrived the hand basin would not drain away and there was no hot water. Staff attended to it quickly and hot water was back on but the drain problem remained. Next day we were moved to another room and had no further problems.

Review 88:Reception staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast room staff also very pleasant.

Review 89:Our first room had mold on the walls, after complaining we was moved and upgraded straight away.

Review 90:The staff are very attentive to there customers needs. Nothing is too much for them, they like to see happy customers.

Review 91:lower ground floor - depressingly dark room with outdated facilities. Would have insisted on change of room but pressured for time

Review 92:Good location for wedding venue

Review 93:I was traveling alone, which is unusual for me, but I felt right at home! I made full use of the spa/leisure centre and was so grateful to the warm friendly staff who genuinely took an interest in making my stay a warm & welcoming one.

Review 94:Bathroom was very bad; tiles falling off the wall, holes in the ceiling around the light fitting and was generally in a bad state of repair. Room was a little better but still felt tired and we didn't feel we got our money's worth.

Review 95:Breakfast, grounds, location, facilities

Review 96:Awful food, thin walls, ancient TV with 4 channels. Fire alarm going off on regular basis - how am I supposed to know if it's a real evacuation or just someone having a shower with their door open? Breakfast too expensive. In need of some modernisation. Car park view.

Review 97:Comfortable bed, nice bathroom and provisions, wonderful spa facility. Lounge area. General character.

Review 98:I don't have any negative comments!

Review 99:The entire staff is very accomodating--my request for a certain type of room involved work for them, but they handled it efficiently with smiles. (needed a room on the ground floor--no stairs!) Enjoyed the pool! The common rooms are very relaxing as well.

Review 100:Drinks added to bill that weren't ours but removed without hesitation when we pointed it out. Breakfast not included in our room rate.

Review 101:hotel is a nice looking building inside and out, right on Richmond hill. there are no views from the hotel, but the Richmond terrace garden is 2 mins walk away with lovely views over the Thames. Room was nice.

Review 102:Out of three wines, fish chips and peas .. no peas. Grilled veg with olives and cheese, no olives ... what the hell do they actually have ... wifi terrible. Rooms small.

Review 103:The location

Review 104:We stayed for one night in room 202, and the bed is probably the best bed in the world!!!! So comfortable, the location was great and the staff were friendly. didn't have breakfast so can't comment. An enjoyable stay, will definitely book again.

Review 105:no bad experiences!

Review 106:Everyone on the entire staff is always friendly and courteous, willing and ready to help with even minor issues. Love the pool! This is not an anonymous hotel..you actually feel like a valued guest...will be coming back again soon.

Review 107:Just found it very expensive to stay there. The standard room is very spotless clean and very comfortable. But would have expected a bigger room for what it cost. And stations on TV are not tuned in well.

Review 108:Staff are extremely friendly and willing to help. Breakfast was great.

Review 109:It might have been a been a decent hotel 20 years ago, but I don't think it's seen a lick of paint since. The room was pretty shabby with paint peeling off the walls and a hole in the door. It didn't help the fire alarm went off twice on the final night; it seems it is possible to set it off by leaving a bathroom door open and taking a shower. In need of a serious make over.

Review 110:Location

Review 111:Restaurant service a bit ponderous and limited menu. Asked for quiet room Got put in front with main road. Could have included biscuits with tea & coffee.

Review 112:Location and surroundings.

Review 113:No bad experience but décor tired. Several tiles missing from seat in steam room. Water stains on ceiling above shower in ensuite

Review 114:Good location, comfortable bed

Review 115:I had asked for a taxi to be booked for my return to the hotel from an evening out. The arrangement hadn't been made as requested.

Review 116:A comfortable room in an attractive building. A good place for catching up with family.

Review 117:Evening meal in restaurant was disappointing but staff quick to apologise and tried to rectify.

Review 118:The staff were exceptional. Everyone -from Daniel on Reception who was very welcoming and helpful to all other staff - was just so pleasant. The rooms were beautifully clean and beds very comfortable.

Review 119:can't think of anything negative!

Review 120:Took into consideration my request for a room on the main floor-no elevators, and it's hard for me to climb stairs. Very clean pool area, spa, etc. Very congenial and efficient staff.

Review 121:The Club facilities (mainly the pool) was not child frendly in that there was very limited access for Children under the age of 16.

Review 122:Staff were very friendly and professional

Review 123:The heating was difficult to work out. The bar prices were a little expensive.

Review 124:I liked the courteous and helpful staff. The location was ideal for travel into London. The dinner was delicious.

Review 125:On the 2nd morning the hotel was very busy and staff were under pressure during breakfast.

Review 126:We chose the hotel because of its great location. It was perfect to explore the park, the village and to get to Hampton court. Staff were helpful.

Review 127:it's all a bit so-so. It reminded me of aTHF hotel from the 70s/80s. Could do with modernising!

Review 128:Generally ok. Has most facilities that you may require, with easy access to Central London

Review 129:tired décor in room- chipped paint, torn wall paper, carpet needing replacing. hall ways by my room tired decor cooked breakfast cold stressful checking in process

Review 130:pool facilities evening bar food waiting staff communal areas

Review 131:Not a lot. To get best rate had to go through on-line booking, why? Breakfast fine - but the most expensive of the 3 Richmond Hill top Hotels. None of which will deter us from going again.

Review 132:Easy to find, easy to park, friendly welcome, comfortable room. Didn't use spa this time but will now we know it is there.

Review 133:The WiFi was better, because no code was needed; I rely on Internet access. The internet performance was very slow at times though. This is the only thing that obviously needs to be improved. Also nobody informed me that I needed a code to get out of the car park.

Review 134:They've made improvements since I was last there. Staff were attentive and the food at Breakfast and in the bar was good.

Review 135:The whole hotel and Leisure centre could really do with an update. Mould in the showers and missing tiles at the leisure centre. Room was tiny, with very little room to move around. Richmond Hill Hotel next door looked much nicer!

Review 136:Use of the leisure centre and staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 137:all of the little extras--Christmas stocking filled with candy and wine on Christmas morning! Complimentary mulled wine and mince pies Dec. 24-26. Extra-attentive staff!

Review 138:fire alarm went off in error at 4am, struggled to get to sleep after that. bed very comfortable, but standard double size is too narrow. Breakfast good, but scrambled eggs only lukewarm.

Review 139:Lovely hotel, warm and welcoming atmosphere. Even gave us a Christmas stocking full of goodies!
