Reviews for Shandon House Hotel
Review 1:The parking wasn't the greatest, but did manage to squeeze into a place. The bathroom basin was a bit of a squeeze too. The planes did fly over from the early hours, but nothing you can do about that.
Review 2:The shower was amazing, the bed was very comfortable and the room was cosy, so all just right! The staff were also very helpful and friendly. Perfectly placed and not too far from the station.
Review 3:very good value for money. the room was clean and comfortable and the amenities were more that adequate for our needs. overall we were very happy and this hotel suited us and we will definitely be back.
Review 4:Coffee machine broke down and instead of getting on and fixing it, staff were arguing amongst themselves in loud voices of who is to blame.
Review 5:Comfortable room, that made for a good nights sleep. We were allowed to leave our car in the car park for the rest of the day even though we had checked out.
Review 6:We expected a bit more nutritious continental breakfast, but we did not go starving.
Review 7:The happiest and most helpful staff ever! Many thanks to Joseph and the short, blond hair lady at reception on Sat and Sun. Great location! Comfortable rooms and bed! Cleanliness is spot on!
Review 8:Don't be fooled by the continental breakfast. You will basically be served toast, and tea that is made from the capsules you insert into the tea maker.
Review 9:The beds are horrendous, the room was way too hot and noisy since we faced the road and had to leave the window open due to the heat in the room.
Review 10:Breakfast was very basic (but also cheap at £3.50): cereal, toast & jam, yoghourt, slot machine coffee ... but that was about it.
Review 11:Very helpful front-of-desk staff; nice room, sizeable HD TV and comfortable bed. Small car park... but they quickly arranged for me to park at the sister hotel opposite
Review 12:Breakfast was very basic to say the least. Carpets were tired. Rooms were not particularly warm. Quilts were too thin for the cold weather, needed a coat on the quilt to keep warm.
Review 13:Comfortable bed, clean good location for what we needed to do.
Review 14:Only criticism was that on a ground floor room I would have liked there to have been some sort of net curtain to allow privacy whilst still being able to have natural light. In morning felt that had to have the curtains drawn and lights on to have privacy from people outside & in buildings opposite.
Review 15:Nicely furnished room. Good decor. Everything you would need for a quick overnight stay.
Review 16:There was nothing, we die not like.
Review 17:Very friendly and helpful people at the reception. The location was very convenient for us, as we were visiting Richmond. For going into the city of London it is of cause not close
Review 18:My wifi wouldn't work in the basement room I had - the router booster wasn't sufficient or well located. BUT as long as staff know that and can enquire if cient requires wifi, ... no problem - they can be put above the router.
Review 19:Helpful happy sounding staff. Light, airy and clean. Not exactly luxurious, but very acceptable for a few days' stay. Handy for station and the town centre.
Review 20:Not a bad experience but the carpets were a jaded and I slipped on the stairs as they were steep and narrow
Review 21:Nice friendly staff, the night I arrived the person on the desk told me more about what was not offered than what was
Review 22:The bathroom needed a new shower curtain and the room overall needed more attention to detail regarding cleaning. Not a problem for us, but hallways are narrow and you must be able to negotiate stairs.
Review 23:After a long flight and arrival at Heathrow, Richmond is easy to get to and a great place to spend a couple of nights while you get your bearings in London. Good location (short walk to Underground and shopping, but quiet), comfortable bed, great water pressure in the shower, simple breakfast & wifi included.
Review 24:Well, dislike is too strong...this one observation is to help the owner/s maintain the look and feel of the place. The initial refurbished was done well and a lot was invested. The room we were in had lose counter top where access had been gained to repair the Wc. Cracked tiles in the bathroom due to movement after building works, damaged window frame and lock.damage to bathroom door. A freshen up of paint to the walls and woodwork would be good. It would be a shame if the place went from 'homely' to 'tatty' for the sake of a maintenance program.
Review 25:Staff. Particularly Joseph, were fantastic. Very welcoming and accommodating. The shower was good. No fridge in the room so communal fridge is useful. Free breakfast was simple self serve drinks and toast and cereal. Location is superb...3 minutes to the tube. Free parking was a great help and as most guests come by train very easy to get a space.
Review 26:Everything a bit care-worn - bathroom with chipped tiles & enamel; worn patches in carpet, telephone not working. Was woken up at 5am with a long delivery of linen being delivered into a cupboard by my room (Room 3 to be avoided on a Tuesday night!).
Review 27:Very helpful staff, available at all hours, was able to arrive late with no problem.
Review 28:Unfortunately directly under Heathrow flightpath so be ready for early morning "call" whether wanted or not!
Review 29:Very friendly welcome, clean and comfortable for one night stay. Well located for Richmond and transport connections.
Review 30:Noise of planes only to be expected. Traffic noise but was height summer so windows left open as very warm.
Review 31:The ambience of the place and the lovely, friendly staff. Able to park on site.Close proximity to everything that we wanted for that particular weekend.
Review 32:I have paid a lot more for accommodation in chain hotels with the same facilities. A budget price for a lovely London hotel was a boon! The receptionist was fantastic and particularly helpful and friendly. All of this as well as free parking and wifi was an extra bonus! THANK YOU!
Review 33:The bed was firm - mattress on wood base
Review 34:very pleasant and helpful staff - free parking and good breakfast - in such a convenient place for town, station and walking!
Review 35:Nothing.
Review 36:The hotel was very clean, the staff were very nice and helpful, and I enjoyed the breakfast. The Wi-Fi speed was excellent, and the bed was great for my back.
Review 37:On arrival, (very early) we were greated by a very friendly lady whotold us that if we wished we could use the room (and have breakfast ) asthe room was ready which was great for us as we had 3 hours to'kill' , so getting into the room at the early time we arrivedwas a a real bonus (and getting offer breafast wow!) we had breakfastthe following morning again, being under the flight path did not botherus ,it was interesting to see the planes coming in, the noise ,noproblem, as we were happy to get away from the fighting noisy seagullswe have in cornwall, so a nice change
Review 38:The hotel is on a very busy road = noisy. The main areas in the room (Nr. 15) were clean all right but the bathroom was rather run down and in some places there was a thick layer of dust (lampshades, heating in the bathroom). The anti-slip mat in the bath tub was old and mouldy.
Review 39:The distance from Richmond station is very convenient, the staff are helpful and friendly, plenty of simple food for breakfast, comfy bed, comfy room with all basics provided.
Review 40:I have a problem with the breakfast as there is no gluten free option.
Review 41:The position is great for getting into the city or just getting a bus to Kingston and Kew Gardens
Review 42:Poor breakfast in that the milk offered was sour and I had to ask for fresh. Also plastic bowls and plates do not go down well. Bath had badly marked enamel
Review 43:ed comfortable
Review 44:I would have liked a cooked breakfast, but the "continental" breakfast on offer was plentiful with good variety.
Review 45:Being able to pick up room keys and leave bags in rooms when we turned up early in the afternoon. Easy walk to parks and river. Good proximity to town and restaurants - an easy walk for dinner. We were able to walk to Kew Gardens - the purpose of our visit.
Review 46:No negatives really at this price. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Better quality toilet paper would be a nice addition.
Review 47:Great, powerful shower. Good price for London location. Good facilities in the room - stayed overnight for a friends wedding celebration nearby and it suited me perfectly.
Review 48:No railings on stairways. Although excellent value and included in the room price, for the same amount of staff time, the tea could be fresh.
Review 49:Willingness to cater for special requests. Lovely, bright, modern and spotlessly clean accommodation which may not be luxurious but serves your needs very well. Very good value for money which includes breakfast. Great location close to all transport, restaurants, shops etc. Very nice friendly and helpful staff.
Review 50:Location was ideal for my needs and was easy to find. Had a friendly greeting from reception and room was a good size and clean. Facilities were adequate in general a good stay and good value for money
Review 51:Breakfast was very basic. No marmalade - told that management had discontinued it because it was more expensive than jam! Wi-Fi was intermittent and very slow
Review 52:Lady at front office was excellent and went out of her way to be helpful. Room (top floor) was comfortable and large with windows on two sides.
Review 53:The décor, windows and tiling are beginning to show their age so a refit wouldn't go amiss- don't get the impression that this is a flee pit, it is anything but dirty or decrepit, just aging ungracefully.
Review 54:Clean, and very good value for money. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Well placed for accessing the mainline train, and Underground services. Adjacent to Kew Gardens, the National Archives, and getting to Rugby at Twickenham.
Review 55:The stand of the rooms we ware in ware not clean and there was bare wires damage tiles and taps ware loose and windows that had no handle on so could not be closed and the noise from the planes at 04:50 will get you up in the morning
Review 56:Not a thing
Review 57:The light fitting above the bath was missing, which made showering difficult as it was dark with the shower curtain closed. The breakfast is basic - not even a Continental really, just toast, juice, cereal and tea/coffee.
Review 58:The hotel offers a limited amount of free parking for guests, but not enough for the number of rooms. The double en suite room we had was a good size.
Review 59:If I had to be really fussy, the bed wasn't that comfortable. Only stayed one night and the location outweighed this slight gripe.
Review 60:Really friendly staff.
Review 61:The location couldn't be better in an immaculate Edwardian/Victorian street a very short walk from Richmond station! Efficient check-in procedure and free parking if you're lucky!!
Review 62:If I was going to be pucky I could mention the squeaky floorboards in the room above and a coffee stain on the cushion but really this is very minor & didn't bother me. If you want perfection pay more & go to a flash hotel.
Review 63:The location was brilliant for getting to Twickenham, very close to train station, one stop, and free shuttle bus goes from just down the road. Shandon House is in a lovely street in leafy Richmond, looks nice from outside and was fresh and clean inside. My single room with shared bathroom facilities was cosy, clean and warm. The bed was really comfortable and I slept very well, not too much noise from the road & very little from within the hotel. The towels and bedding were good quality. There was a good sized flat screen tv with freeview channels & free wifi. I had a wash basin in my room with lots of hot water, liquid soap provided. The bathroom facilities were clean and fresh. The free breakfast was just toast, cereals, yoghurt, tea/coffee, orange juice etc but perfectly good & served in a nice clean dining room. The members of staff I met were polite and friendly. For £40 on a saturday night this was great value.
Review 64:Loud busy street so either up all night because it was hot in room ... No air at all or the road noise kept us up. It is spring and can't imagine how hot the rooms are in summer.
Review 65:If you just want the basic ingredients this hotel ticks every box, and the costs are very good for the location. Some may find it a bit noisy, but it didn't bother me.
Review 66:There was no water in the room and the phone wasn't connected so I couldn't call reception to ask about breakfast before leaving early in the morning. The bathroom and permanent cushions on the bed were no as clean as I would have liked.
Review 67:The location, it was very convenient, an easy walk for dinning out in the evening and daytime activities by the river
Review 68:It was a sunny day therefore there were quite a few ants on the bed. Also the toilet looked very tired, there were broken tiles on the wall and the floor and mold in the bath. The noise on the road was terrible. Barely slept
Review 69:The sheets were clean, room was relatively alright. We drove to Richmond, so the free parking was great.
Review 70:Traffic in front rooms and aircraft noise are somewhat annoying and the stairs are steep and narrow if you have a room not on first floor. Limited car spaces if you have a car.
Review 71:Central location to London trains and local buses. Reasonably sized clean rooms, breakfast, and staff were all good value for the price.
Review 72:Lack of handrails on stairs at entrance and to dining room. Machine made tea for breakfast.
Review 73:Location near tube, bus, shops, destination. Very reasonable price. Clean, basic facilities with no frills.
Review 74:Staff always pleasant and helpful; rooms, bed linen, towels, toilets and bathrooms always clean; hotel conveniently situated with some parking.on site which is helpful: good value for the money.
Review 75:The lady who greeted me at reception was lovely and helpful. Seeing a friendly face made my stay all the better! I'll be back next time I'm in Richmond!
Review 76:Continental breakfast not available at reasonable times for travellers! not even milk in the fridge for a coffee and cereal!
Review 77:Bathroom was good, as was the location
Review 78:Web describes it as recently renovated but bathroom tiles broken and loose. Continental breakfast only 3 cereals and toast and not the conventional such as cold meats and cheeses.
Review 79:Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 80:The breakfast was very simple, and I'm no fan of toast and yoghurt.
Review 81:I was visiting Kew garden, and for that the location was very good. It was a short walk to restaurants and shops. My room was neat and with a little basin. The sfaff was excellent.
Review 82:We were here in Richmond for the 6 nations and needed a room for the night at a reasonable rate. This place is perfect - clean and comfortable, what more do you need? Don't believe the negative reviews - some people expect the ritz on a budget.
Review 83:Usually very clean but it does have it's off days. I've stayed seven or so times and only had 2 major issues. One a clogged bath plug, hair. And two a red ant problem. I am covered in bites. Never seen that before, but usually very good so don't let that put you off.
Review 84:Beds are more comfortable than my own bed. Mattress very firm. Sheets always clean. Bathroom and TV and kettle etc. Facilities very good. Location is spot on. Rooms very quiet, got a good nights sleep.
Review 85:The bathrooms are looking a little tired but adequate and the rooms are very warm.
Review 86:The location and parking facilities are a big draw for use of the Shandon which we use on our visits to Twickenham.
Review 87:The bathroom needed a bit of TLC, door wouldn't close cos of a broken/raised floor tile. There was a loose (earth) wire loose under the radiator & some of the wall tiles in the shower were broken.
Review 88:The location, was close to town and the venue for the party we were attending. Plenty of hot water for the shower and powerful
Review 89:Free Wifi Clean Rooms Friendly Staff Free Parking I stayed in all hotels around this area. My favourite easily. Have already recommended to collegues
Review 90:Not one negative thing at this hotel.
Review 91:This was a fantastic Place to stay. Staff were very friendly. Parking is limited but the managment will make sure you park. Lovely rooms, spotless. The room was lovely and warm.breakfast was basic but good. Richmond town 10 minute's walk. Train station 3 minutes walk. This is a fantastic location. I will tell everyone I know about this hotel. We will be using it ourselves when we come to London. The people who run this hotel should be proud. Thank you the Hawleys.PS . ask for room 8 if possible.
Review 92:Double bed mattress was a bit lumpy and uncomfortable. Some road noise but is close to Station so a busy road.
Review 93:Good clean room.Had all we wanted. Is very close to Richmond Station for access to London.Th continental breakfast was very adequate. We were able to use the kitchen in the evening to prepare a ready meal.
Review 94:None
Review 95:Great location right by the Richmond station car park exit. Second time stay and really great room with tea making facilities with free Wifi. Warm and cosy together with helpful staff made my stay comfortable and I would recommend to all solo travellers, couples etc
Review 96:There was an old guy at the reception. Quite rude and arrogant. I do not understand how hotel management let him to work in this hotel...
Review 97:Location was good for me.
Review 98:Cracked window, and noisy in front, but I was offered a room at the back so problem sorted and that was fine.
Review 99:Alison on reception was so helpful, and quickly and efficiently sorted out our queries. Breakfast was fine.
Review 100:I was expecting a fryup in the morning, but my fault for not looking further into this. Although on a budget, it would be good value for money if it included a greasy breakfast - maybe even if its just egg and bacon/ sausage sarnies? however there were a good range of jams for my toast!
Review 101:Staff, Location, facilities, freeview TV, clean.
Review 102:breakfast very basic. we were in room 7 you get a lot of noise from the reception area people talking through the night
Review 103:location .a good base to travel from close to trains and buses and not to far from heathrow . a five minute walk to richmond main street
Review 104:Only a basic level of amenities. Breakfast choice very limited. Cosmetic issues in bathroom (loose tiles, plug in basic not working etc)
Review 105:Conveniently located a short walk from the town centre. Decent sized room. Quite quiet after late evening, despite overlooking a (local) main road. Good mattress and pillows. Excellent shower.
Review 106:Lots of stairs and no lift. Electronic door lock locked us out of room 90 minutes before required leaving time.
Review 107:Size of room, cleanliness, breakfast/food facilities, nice warm room all very good.
Review 108:Very basic breakfast. Noise from outside can be heard.
Review 109:Amazing staff. Comfortable room. Good parking facilities. Temperature of the room was adjustable.
Review 110:Don't be deterred by aircraft noise- you'll hear it everywhere you stay in West London, but after the first night you tune out and sleep well. The décor is beginning to look a little tired, but this doesn't mean the premises are anything but clean, and the beds comfortable. Off-street parking limited, but who needs a car in London anyway.
Review 111:Staff- helpful and friendly. Location- within 2 minutes walk of Underground & mainline train station for quick access to central London. 30 minutes walk (or one tube stop) from the National Archives or Kew Gardens. Very close to local amenities, restaurants and good pubs.
Review 112:Bathroom needed a little updating and the bed was a little hard, but these are personal views.
Review 113:Clean and comfortable, parking is excellent and a great location for me.
Review 114:Breakfast is not good. I'm not expecting the works for the price I'm paying. Luckily I'm not usually a breakfast person, but this place doesn't inspire me to change that habit. One member of staff has terrible service and is rude. But the others are great and friendly so don't be put off.
Review 115:The location is great for those who enjoy London but who don't want to be in the noisy mayhem of central. The bed is really comfy and there is plenty of storage depending on the length of your stay.
Review 116:The breakfast was very basic - continental only - but perfectly adequate for me.
Review 117:The bed was very comfy and my room was warm and quiet. Instant hot water and everything I needed was there.
Review 118:Walls a little thin.Crack in window but not really an issue for me.
Review 119:Very well located small hotel, excellent value and clean and tidy with helpful staff
Review 120:- a litlle bit creaking floor - simple continental breakfast
Review 121:- good localization, close to trains - kind and helpfull staff - spacious room, well equipped, nice TV screen
Review 122:Very noisey from 6.00am contractors staying there , No good if ha want a sleep in .
Review 123:Clean tidy, Tea making facility's , Tv on wall very good , Power shower spot on . Ideal to travel in to London 30 mins away, train ,tube station bottom of road 5 mins away ,
Review 124:dissapointed breakfast was not 'continental' as advertised. toast, limited choice of cereal
Review 125:great location. Great value for money. Helpful front desk.
Review 126:Our return stay was on the top floor which was street noisy, and lacked ventilation.coffee at breakfast was tasteless.phone in the room didn't work
Review 127:Convenient location, helpfull staff, and stored our luggage for a week till we returned for another stay.also reliable for a early wake up call.breakfast was adequate.our first stay was in the basement area which was surprisingly quiet.
Review 128:Very close to the tube station, shops, Kew gardens and the Archives. An excellent Italian restaurant and two theatres also provide convenient entertainment. The managers were very friendly and helpful.
Review 129:The mattress was a little hard, but this may well be a personal preference.
Review 130:The shower, which was shared, was excellent. It was hot and clean, and was quite powerful.
Review 131:There was limited cold water and the main window was broken, so got woken up by planes, trains and automobiles quite early. Breakfast is very limited, toast, juice and yorgurt but still filling.
Review 132:Location is superb, so close to Richmond and what we needed, local pubs are top quality too. Room was big, bathroom clean and free wifi throughout.
Review 133:Plumbing. Noisy pipes every time a tap or shower was used in the hotel. Cold and hot taps produced boiling hot water. Shower was sporadic with its hot water.
Review 134:Proximity to Richmond and Kew
Review 135:(1)The stairs were a challenge, especially if you have mobility issues. A simple handrail on both interior and exterior stairs would solve the problem both of mobility and safety. Surprised that this is not a licensing requirement in view of Health and Safety regulations. (2) Not essential but a net curtain on rooms facing the street would improve privacy while allowing light in.
Review 136:The price: best value in the whole of London. No frills but very good basics: cleanliness,Wi-Fi, TV, breakfast in pleasant conservatory room, shower, desk (very important), comfy chair, tea making, linen, comfy bed, bed light AND desk light, convenient location near tube and overground rail in beautiful Richmond.
Review 137:Bit small to move around. Steep stairs.
Review 138:Great for overnight stay if catching an early train. Close to shopping centre and shops. Looked like it was a pretty area of London. Although on a main street, the noise was hardly heard. A warm, comfortable stay.
