Reviews for Petersham Hotel
Review 1:No power points in the room, nowhere to charge phones etc. Small bed, very hard and lumpy mattress and poor quality pillows. Breakfast was extra, not good value considering the price of the room
Review 2:Lovely old hotel on the banks of the river. 10 minute walk into town. Room was small but had a balcony overlooking the river.
Review 3:No cheese !!! A restaurant on a Saturday night without cheese ........
Review 4:Warm welcome, very comfortable stay and excellent location.... The staff make the hotel !
Review 5:None
Review 6:Helpful & very polite staff. Professional in service & attitude Good location Lovely views of the Thames Enjoyed 3 course dinner at the restaurant
Review 7:The mattress is really soft and you can feel the springs.
Review 8:The hotel is in a beautiful location and the building looks stunning. The dining room and the lounges are really nice and full of character.
Review 9:The soap is far to slimy and it left a film over my hands and I couldn't wash it off.
Review 10:I liked the staff the cleaners I must admit were the most friendly they were very smiley and always said high. I liked the room it was very clean and comfy. Also the hotel itself was very grand and looked amazing.
Review 11:The room was quite poky. In great need of an update. Smoking area outside our room so the stench of cigarette smoke wafted up. Rubbish view of the car park. The room was unbelievably hot, thank goodness for the fan we had going all night.
Review 12:This was situated in a lovely part. On top on a hill with beautiful views of the Thames. The entrance hallway was very impressive.
Review 13:Very noisy children banging doors and shouting in the room/corridor next to ours.
Review 14:Warm welcome, nothing was too much trouble. Great service. For a standard room it was very spacious and comfortable. Wonderful views from the restaurant.
Review 15:Sold an upgrade . Room112hardly see river but right outside patio doors very very noisy extractor fan running 24hours a day did not sleep a wink .Open side window near another extractor fan and fumes made room smell like a chip shop . Complained next morning and no offer to reduce bill just said should not have happened ,sorry !
Review 16:It's near my daughters flat
Review 17:Would have liked the restaurant to offer a la carte instead of a set course menu.
Review 18:We had a room overlooking the Thames for 3 nights. It was very spacious and comfortable. We ate in the dining room once. The food was delicious. Overall the staff were very friendly and attentive.
Review 19:staff wasn't friendly and very slow service in both the restaurant and the lobby. Was seated over 20min to get someone to ask what do I wanted. light went off in the room and staff has to come and fix it in the middle of the night our room was extremely hot despite we asked the concierge to help us
Review 20:views
Review 21:We asked for something simple of the night menu from room service in the evening and was told they couldn't as too early even though only an hour too early . So had to choose from a menu with nothing we wanted . Unfortunately due to arriving late with a young child we were unable to go to the restaurant . Also I found after looking on late rooms if Id cancelled the day before and re booked on the day I could have saved £50 ! For a £140 room it was a lot
Review 22:Staff were very helpful from reception, room was spacious and clean, views amazing
Review 23:The only negative is the distance from Richmond and the train station, in regards to travel, 10-15min walk or a taxi everytime,
Review 24:A very fine hotel, in a beautiful setting by the river.
Review 25:Rooms vastly over priced. Restaurant, good chef, excellent profesional waiters. However again vastly over priced.
Review 26:Great staff. Great Restaurat. Location.
Review 27:this hotel is really close to my office and the staff is very nice, so i always tend to book it, however, there's always going on. This time I left the room at 8am and when back at 8pm the door was open. Luckily nothing was missing, but house keeping should take more care. Last time, the security box code stopped working when i needed to open it at 10pm. I called reception and they said they couldn't find the master key so maybe the next day they could open it. After expressing my urgent need to take out some personal things at that moment, they did find it an open it... it was midnight already.
Review 28:poor wine selection. We phoned for a glass of wine to have in our room and the staff were unable to tell us where the Chardonnay came from A glass of red wine we had in the bar was undrinkable.
Review 29:The location is excellent.
Review 30:All my stays have been brilliant.
Review 31:I have stayed at the Petersham Hotel many times and have always recieved great service from extremely pleasant staff, in a beautiful building with the most fabulous view from the dining In the morning at breakfast. Brilliant! A real treat.
Review 32:The room was ridiculously small, the bathroom was minute, water pressure in the shower was extremely slow, no view from the small window, receptionist wasn't friendly nor welcoming and very abrupt on check out. Over priced and over rated, i would not return.
Review 33:Nothing
Review 34:way too hot, thus no sleep and not a good working day thereafter. The rooms were all way too hot and no air conditioning or way of regulating even with opening windows and fan still impossible to sleep.
Review 35:building and location
Review 36:Our room was ridiculously hot with no way of controlling the temperature (all I can think is that we were close to a boiler room!!) Couldn't sleep at all.
Review 37:Helpful, polite staff in a brilliant location
Review 38:there is no heating nor air conditioning there is just one individual radiator and you freeze the bed was so old and uncomfortable, you moved and it made a lot of noise.
Review 39:the location the staff is really nice
Review 40:Bed was too soft, room was tired, don't serve continental breakfast if you can't serve high quality bread and pastries, it was dull and dry, not what you want to start your day
Review 41:Location and staff
Review 42:Really bad communications with the Housekeeping department. Forgetting to bring items to room. Not passing on complete messages. Had to follow messages up too many times. Hopeless.
Review 43:Wonderful view. Peaceful hotel. Most staff charming and helpful Large car park.
Review 44:A little bit too stuffy for me on a business trip, felt like everyone was frightened to talk out loud!
Review 45:Lovely hotel, very clean and comfortable and close to super part of the river.
Review 46:The guest rooms need Air conditioning, not sure if some rooms have separate units, but my room did not, so no central AC, which is a problem in today's guests' expectations. Public areas look dated and need a refurbishment
Review 47:Very well appointed and spacious guest room with a view over the front, pleased that going though booking.com I was given such a very nice room, as the hotel was also full.
Review 48:Concierge was not au fait with details about the art collection. I asked him why the paintings did not have any signatures on, and he did not know why and did not even try to find out. I cannot believe I am the 1st person to ask! Room 104 did not have a proper wardrobe, just shelving, which was fine a 2 night stay, any longer where do you store clothes? Also did a guest steal the door! Bathroom v.small and wonder why there was no toilet roll holder or small hand towel ring/rail? Why do 3 drawer bedside cabinets have 2 drawers that dont open?
Review 49:Location, views, actual building is beautiful did not feel like hotel, more like a family country mansion house. Christina receptionist very professional and friendly with a lovely smile!! (despite what concierge says!!)
Review 50:Breakfast staff on the other hand not as well trained...not bad but not as great as the dinner staff. Nonetheless £10 breakfast was certainly a good value.
Review 51:Dining room staff for dinner/cocktails was superb. We had a 3 year old with us and they were very very good with him, made everyone feel welcome and comfortable.
Review 52:the ground floor room too dark, better to have white bedspreads, better room on the 2nd floor.
Review 53:the ambience of the hotel, location the free parking to explore the area, the tea on the balcony, waiters were good, service wise.
Review 54:The fact that the room didn't have any iron and I had to request this from reception. Not a major issue though
Review 55:Very welcoming staff, lovely room with huge ensure bathroom. Breakfast reasonably prices and very good quality ingredients. Definitely recommend a stay
Review 56:Pillows very uncomfortable Bed was.very uncomfortable View of car park with noisy hotel taxis No fridge in the room Awkward coat hangers Too sleepless nights Very overpriced for the offer Would not recommend & would not go back......
Review 57:Access to town and riverside
Review 58:No breakfast included
Review 59:Lovely view, basic rooms for price. Ablong way from stationbsobyou meed a car or folding bicycle or factor in taxis. Lovely if you like a run in the park or stroll by river. Some eateries nearby if you dont mind a 10 minute walk..
Review 60:The wifi needs to be sorted as I couldnt FaceTime my family or check my emails although the staff at reception allowed me to use their computer which was a lovely gesture
Review 61:Thr staff were all wonderful from reception to the waiters and the room was beautiful and had great facilities and food and cocktails excellent
Review 62:Food was indifferent not much choice. Can't cook eggs!L
Review 63:Beautiful hotel in an amazing setting overlooking Thames. Helpful staff. Lovely to have silver service, not a buffet in sight!!
Review 64:I didn't have a bad experience during my stay but if I was forced to make a negative comment I would say that the English breakfast while good was minimal in content and portion.
Review 65:The Petersham is a splendid hotel. It is beautifully situated with tremendous views of the river Thames and very close to the amazing Richmond park. I would describe the hotel as country house style and 'old school' in nature. It is tastefully decorated and has a superb ornate staircase. I stayed for two nights as part of a wedding group and can only thank the management and staff for a delightful stay.
Review 66:The lack of plug sockets!! Two in the entire room for TV/kettle/hairdryer/phone chargers. Would suggest a multi-socket adapter if adding more sockets is not possible
Review 67:Room not up to the standard it should be. Cracked bowl in bathroom, rusty leak from toilet handle when flushed. Step up to French doors splintered.
Review 68:The position of the hotel. Views were wonderful. Staff very efficient and pleasant
Review 69:The Petersham represents good, traditional service in a very comfortable hotel in a beautiful setting. There are no gimmicks and it is classy and understated.
Review 70:The bed could have been a little more comfortable but It was fine.
Review 71:The stunning location! Very comfortable and welcoming hotel, booked to go for Sunday lunch for my sons birthday!
Review 72:The room was ridiculously small for the price. The décor was tired and in need of updating.
Review 73:Great location and impressive looking building. Staff were pleasant.
Review 74:We were made to feel very welcome as soon as we arrived and this continued throughout our stay. We enjoyed our meals in the restaurant and the service was excellent.
Review 75:Very hot bedrooms even with all windows open no air con
Review 76:Excellent location, very friendly and helpful staff in all areas. Lovely breakfast with amazing views
Review 77:The room (401) was shockingly awful for the price! Extremely small with no view whatsoever owing to the bank outside the window which let in very little natural sunlight. This in turn made the bed feel damp. Breakfast was poor, tiny portions and burnt toast. We had dinner which was excellent, but it would have needed to be for the price!
Review 78:The location of this hotel is good if you're visiting friends in Richmond. The staff are pleasant, we stayed for 3 nights.
Review 79:No air conditioning but the rooms are generally cool enough due to the breeze of the Thames
Review 80:Pay for a balcony room and ask the staff to provide some outside chairs. On Summer day the outside bar is very pleasant and there is a nice pub next door
Review 81:Pity the room did not match the fine dining. It was small and rather bare for money paid, with no view whatsoever. The wardrobe was so narrow that if one was to stay for more than one night the floor was the only answer! I had expected a little more comfort
Review 82:The staff are the most helpful iv'e come across for some time, they are also very well turned out.the dining room has a view to die for and tables layed to perfection. The food was above par and all credit again to the staff who were most attendive.I will go again in the future.
Review 83:A lady at breakfast took exception to the bacon she was served at breakfast and was unnecessarily voluminous. I hope the hotel refuse to have her as a guest again.
Review 84:Luxury and location. Perusing the Thames rural vista from the restaurant is spine tingling. The staff were impeccable and the fittings and fittings were stylish and beautiful.
Review 85:only stayed one night so didn't get much use of the big room we stayed in
Review 86:The views are amazing from the bar/dinning area and luckily from our room
Review 87:Location within walking distance of Kew Gardens. The restaurant - good dinner and breakfast and its view over the Thames. Excellent service by all staff. Ample parking.
Review 88:Slippery bath which caused me to have a fall. Problems with locking bedroom door.
Review 89:Imposing building & position. Lovely bright Dining Room & excellent breakfast.
Review 90:The older european woman receptionist was abrupt, cold and rude. She asked if we wanted to pay £10 for our breakfast but when we explained we thought it was included she coldly just replied her question. There was heavy dust around the desk and TV , the wash basin was cracked and the shower head permanently dripped. Overall not very welcoming.
Review 91:A young man receptionist was very helpful and the twin beds were exceptionally comfortable. The room was generally in good decorative order and the view from the restaurant was stunning. Our room was at the back with no view and was on the small side.
Review 92:Shower could have been more powerful and able to get hotter (It was absolutely fine temp - I just like extremely hot for my backache). Only other thing was we were sat out on the terrace having a drink and trying to finish some work off but were informed we had to go inside, which we did, but then informed we had to move to 'lounge' area which was pretty lacking in atmosphere so we just ended up back in the room.
Review 93:Location fantastic, staff so willing to accommodate, I think it's so refreshing to just have an open wifi connection, views were spectacular.
Review 94:no air conditioning. didn't know they would take an extra twenty pounds on top of the price of the room not sure what it's for but I believe I will get it back
Review 95:the location was very good nice walking distance to the centre for pubs and restaurants
Review 96:We arrived with 3 grandchildren in tow, (they were being picked up by parents) staff were very welcoming to them. Swift check in. overall staff were great. Position of hotel is fabulous overlooking river and just across the road from tow path. Ample free car parking
Review 97:we travel with infant so a cot bed is required, but the cot bed provided by the hotel is a not as good (the bed is too low and we feel like the baby is like sleeping on the floor) as other 4/5 stars hotel we have stayed, so we ended up with not using it at all and sleep with the baby on our own bed - which is not safe.
Review 98:great location (a proper Richmond hill location) and excellent stuff, highly recommended for people looking for a relaxed and clean/comfortable stay.
Review 99:Hardly a "bad" experience, but the cooked breakfast portion was tiny: if a guest asks for a non-meat cooked breakfast, the server should automatically offer an extra e.g. egg, has brown, tomato … It wasn't 100% clear which/how all the breakfast menu was accessed e.g. cereals
Review 100:Quite superb views, especially from the restaurant; wonderful atmospheric building, well maintained & presented. Excellent location too, for the venues I needed. Easy parking!
Review 101:A beautiful hotel, excellently managed with a attentive, polite staff that are clearly very good at what they do. We're already planning our next visit.
Review 102:There was little room in bedroom for even one suitcase. A rack would have helped. One hand basin needed attention - the surface was a mess. Shower head kept flopping down. Otherwise, the bathroom was splendid.
Review 103:Most things. Lovely helpful staff, welcoming atmosphere, wonderful decor. Our comfort would have been enhanced had the lounge not been unavailable due to redecorating (but recognise these things have to be done). Famed view.
Review 104:Decor a little dated. Small room on first floor. Insufficient parking space.
Review 105:Stunning location. Efficient check-in. Used as a base for Rugby match at Twickenham.
Review 106:No complaints
Review 107:Girlfriends birthday and they surprised her with a bottle of champagne and a hand written note. Very much appreciated.beautiful hotel in a stunning location
Review 108:Seriously nitpicking here but there were only 2 plug sockets in the roomand not close to bedside table to charge phone overnight. Everythingelse was amazing.
Review 109:Breakfast, decor, bath tub, riverside view, location, roomservice, balcony.
Review 110:That this wonderful hotel would not fit into my suitcase so I could take it with me everywhere.
Review 111:The charm, the elegance, the mystique, its akin to being wrapped in warm chocolate on a cold winters day.
Review 112:Some poor staffing issues, mistakes and the standard double we had was pretty glum and tiny. Paid £200 for the room. Ordered room service got wrong item delivered - not great but food was decent enough once they got it right.
Review 113:Nice hotel with good breakfast, nice public areas and ok staff at times
Review 114:No bad experience except couldn't work out the lighting situation with the card. Kept having to get out of bed to turn lights off and on.
Review 115:Efficiency of staff, courtesy of staff, appearance of staff. Service was excellent. Felt so special leaving for my wedding from the hotel. Location and building superb.
Review 116:Hair dryer wasn't power enough nor hot enough. Staff though helpful could really do with smiling more! Some of them looked positively miserable.
Review 117:View is wonderful, and close to town, but far enough away too
Review 118:There was a slight problem on arrival with car park being full but due to there being two weddings that day, this is understandable. Staff were very helpful in sorting this out.
Review 119:Politeness and efficiency of all staff
Review 120:Only one patio door in bedroom would open. The other was roughly screwed shut. Shower would not stay in position.
Review 121:Very friendly staff. Great foods and view of the river and Petersham meadow from river view bedroom.
Review 122:The location is perfect if you want to stroll in the city or just sit on the balcony and appreciate the views. The food is superb and the staff is always very friendly and accommodating.
Review 123:Room service menu was limited and then we were informed that two of the starters were not available. On ordering a third option, grilled goats cheese salad with anchovies and walnuts, it arrived ungrilled without anchovies or walnuts. After a phone call, another salad arrived with grilled cheese, anchovies and one walnut.
Review 124:Beautiful hotel and location so close to the river in Richmond
Review 125:The room had no air conditioning and was very hot on our arrival.
Review 126:Some nice luxury touches, from the hand-written welcome to the complimentary macarons. Staff were very helpful and welcoming. Food was great.
Review 127:coming home
Review 128:The view from the room, Staff were lovely however Robin extremely friendly and helpful . Playing the piano in the foyer and the food was gorgeous, accompanied by the best sunset in ages.
Review 129:All the staff were very welcoming and friendly. Located within minutes of the Thames for walking, running, cycling and restaurants. Dinner menu was delicious.
Review 130:hotel rooms needs to be modernised
Review 131:hotel interior nice until you come to the room which is outdated, but clean, nice new flat tv screen, has a balcony, staff very nice, well presented hotel, requested an iron which was brought promptly, very quiet
Review 132:The water pressure in the shower was not much more than a strong trickle and temperature control was almost impossible.
Review 133:Efficient reception both on late check-in and for quick check out. Comfortable bed and good room standard. Pleasant breakfast - beautiful surroundings & attentive staff although speed of service and warmth of food could have been improved.
Review 134:We had three nights at the Petersham with our families and were treated wonderfully. The entire experience was outstanding and they made us feel very special.
Review 135:A pity there is no refrigeration in the room, as complimentary water was tepid.
Review 136:Very agreeable hotel, with helpful staff. Restaurant food very good - except for rather odd coffee at breakfast, and I'd prefer unsmoked back bacon to the smoked streaky.
Review 137:nothing
Review 138:Great location over looking the river . Staff were excellent went above and beyond . Breakfast very good but 2 eggs would be than 1 . Would stay there again no worries
Review 139:The taxis booked by the hotel were twice as expensive as those used on the way back from town.
Review 140:Despite the dismal weather it was a pleasure to stay at a place where everything was done to make guests welcome and to provide really high quality amenities. The hotel is positioned to give the classic view of the Thames at Richmond and sitting in the warm lounge looking out at this while enjoying a drink was a good holiday experience.
