Reviews for Grand Hotel Panhans

Review 1:Very nice Hotel with a lot of heritage! Got an up-grade to a nice apartment room. Good breakfast and nice location. Been there off season with a great value for money deal!

Review 2:Spa is a bit outdated, would be better placed near the pool...got a not very professional nail polish for 30 euro, More plugs needed in the room, had to choose between laptop, light and tv...

Review 3:Big room and view from the room is still wonderfull!

Review 4:No lift from street level to reception. Ok this is only 1 flight of stairs but I had hurt my shoulder so with a suitcase this wasn't easy. Having to pay to use the wellness area when already paying to stay at the hotel seems a bit of a rip off.

Review 5:Places for walking the dog within the hotel complex. Great room (we were upgraded)

Review 6:No food available at 950pm. A hotel cannot be four stars without foodavailable at 10palso, hallways and fitness center were kind of 70s USSR feeling.

Review 7:This is not the Grand Budapest Hotel-in fact, if that is what you're looking for, stop reading now. This hotel would probably leave Pannhans (a top cook) spinning in his grave. Staff is poor, especially for Austrian standards. Dirty carpets and walls throughout. Food-dinner and breakfast-was an epic disaster, they are so incompetent that they even put salt into the sugar shakers and the quality of the food is dismal. There is absolutely no old style charm, maybe a crumbling 1970s tapioca charm if you like that sort of thing - and if you are reading this review you very likely don't. Austrians better pray that a large hotel chain takes it over, because at the moment it's just a disgrace.

Review 8:The Semering location is a treat. The pool was decent enough. The room was spacious, and the balcony view very nice. We had a nice time, partially due to the non-stop laughs that this joke of a hotel delivered

Review 9:Breakfast only to 10.00 :-( Checkout at 10.00 :-(

Review 10:Nice panorama view Comfort rooms Very friendly staff Recommend to book rooms with a lodgia (1-2nd floor)

Review 11:for elderly people it might be a bit of walking to get to the rooms, but I did not mind

Review 12:the atmosphere; friendly and professional staff; free upgrade to a bigger room with a terrace; quick handling at check-in/check-out

Review 13:In need of total renovation: no air conditionning, stuffy interiors, carpets in rooms, balconies filthy, swimmming pool stuffy, not nice atmosphere in restaurant and bar etc.

Review 14:Location, view, staff friendliness

Review 15:The lobby bar ("Tanzbar") reeks of stale cigarette smoke. This was only a very small annoyance though, everything else was great.

Review 16:Fantastic views and an unbeatable location. The hotel successfully combines modern amenities with historical flair. The room was spacious, comfy and stylish. Some rooms have Jugendstil furniture. The spa facilities are nice and their massages are top notch.

Review 17:The staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The location is beautiful, and the building is art deco and HUGE - loved it. Upgraded to a sunshine view room instead of the calm forrest view and we loved it!

Review 18:For the price it was all great. I would like the rooms to be updated; and for the pool to be easier to find - we ended up wandering off into a non-hotel area by mistake. But truly this is an awesome place to stay for the current price bracket. If it gets upgraded, I expect the price will match.

Review 19:Loved the incredible balcony with views over the valley. So worth paying a little extra to get one of these rooms! Amazing. Dinner was excellent - best we have had in Vienna so far. The spa was lovely but we were unsure about whether it was included or whether we had to pay extra for it so we only used it once. As it turned out it didn't turn up on our bill so we are still unclear on this. The Hotel dropped us at the train station upon departure at no extra charge. Wifi was free and pretty good. Overall it was very good value for money; great location and a poignant reminder of when Semmering was flooded with aristocracy and the wealthy who kept these Grand Hotels and spas going.

Review 20:Minimized menu choice, disproportionately high price level compared to the food flavor.

Review 21:Unique natural environment, the hotel represents an stunning architectural masterpiece.

Review 22:We requested several things including a shuttle service via e-mail and the reception told us that our requests were accepted. But some of them were not told to other staff, in fact.

Review 23:Hotel staffs managed our requests friendly and flexibly. It was really helpful.

Review 24:I would say that slopes were to far for a "walk". I had to use car to get to them.

Review 25:I really loved to stay at Grand Hotel Panhans. I really enjoyed the cuisine and swimming pool, skiing. Slovak speaking waiter was very professional and nice.

Review 26:At the time of this writing Austria is still a mostly cash based society. The Hotel and Ski Resort do except credit cards but some of the local establishments do not. Be prepared with some cash for smaller purchases. There are not many ATM (cash machines) either, and make sure that your ATM card is accepted by the local networks. I had a problem with Plus and Cirrus, but Meastro did work. I would also suggest some knowledge of German, French or Russian languages. There were people that spoke English but not very many.

Review 27:Excellent local skiing in a picturesque Austrian village! The Grand Panhans hotel was built in the late 1880's and you couldn't help but feel the history in this well maintained and updated property. Only a 10 minute walk from the slopes of Zau[:ber:]g, or a quick shuttle ride I would highly recommend this destination for anyone that would like to get away from the larger skiing and mountain biking resorts and try something new. It also comes with a full spa, including bath, massage and holistic treatments. This place is worth checking out.

Review 28:The building is a bit dated. its nice but the equipments aren't modern. It has a certain charm of course.

Review 29:The hotel is in a very nicely renovated beautiful old building. It has spacious rooms and since the hotel is standing on a hillside from the room we experienced breathtaking view to the surrounding hills. The food in the restaurant was unforgettable. Each and every meal was beautifully for the eyes and extraordinary tasty. Thanks for the cook! And also a great appreciation for the Hungarian speaking waiter. He was extremely helpful and kind. But if you want to have a dinner there, don't forget to reserve a table! Even if you are the guest of the hotel!

Review 45:Very good location, nice staff and everything was perfect. Good breakfast.

Review 46:Room had a bad odor from the bathroom

Review 47:Mountain location

Review 48:Parking lot is busy hard to find free places. The hotel seems more "tired" than luxurious.

Review 49:Perfect location for hiking.

Review 56:Parking on weekends sometimes difficult

Review 57:Excellent atmosphere and location

Review 58:Delight cuisine !!!!!

Review 59:Excellent conditions, despite the fact that the hotel is more than 100 years old

Review 60:Espresso Coffeee terrible. Wine list at the restaurant not sufficient. Room need to be renovated. Also wellness area need to be renovated.

Review 61:Breakfast was good.

Review 62:Lovely hotel, lovely location, terrific staff. We spent a short weekend at Semmering to do a bit of skiing and had a terrific break at this hotel. It is a bit nicer than an our usual stay (we have two young children), and really didn't bring appropriate clothing for dinner, but never fear, we walked down the hill and had a nice meal else where. Breakfast was delicious with great variety, the spa area and pool were a nice break, the internet was free and fast and parking was convenient. Overall, a very nice stay, I would also recommend coming back in the summer months to enjoy the local area.

Review 63:No kettle in the room. The tea from room service was tasteless and not hot enough. The pool is very far from spa center, and it's very inconvenient to go over 5 minutes through the long cold corridors from sauna to pool.

Review 64:Very comfortable hotel near the piste. (5-10 min walk to the town center and the ski slopes). Helpful staff. Large, spacious, comfortable room. Convenient beds, beautiful furnishings. Very nice spa. Quite good breakfasts. Free transfer to the piste and to the railway station and back. Free ski room.

Review 65:The way to the swimming pool was a bit strange, but in general everything was perfect.

Review 66:Great location and view from the room. Clean room, friendly staff, welcome drink, delicious (and I mean really delicious) breakfast, calm, nice room with a good size.

Review 67:No access to wifi - while promised it didn't work during the 3 days we were there.

Review 68:A lovely grand old dame, fairly deserted at this time of year. Very good dinners in the restaurant.

Review 69:The restaurant on site is has strange dinner menu but breakfast is verygood. Lots of other places to eat nearby. The hotel car can drive if istoo cold or there are young children. Otherwise a short walk

Review 70:The staff were excellent. A service attitude that was fantastic. Greatwith children and adults

Review 71:The room was very spacious. The view from our room was gorgeous, breakfast buffet was fantastic. We also enjoyed our treatments in the hotel spa. It was a very nice and relaxing weekend, hotel is very close to the ski slopes.

Review 72:For some odd "design" reason, the beds (at least in my room) we raised on a platform that I found a bit dangerous, esp when leaving the bed but forgetting their was a "step" to mind.

Review 73:What I liked most: rooms were huge, great views on the landscape, it's style and history, and the spa facilities--esp after an arduous walk. Also appreciated the fact that the hotel extended us of the spa facilities after check-out. Nice having several good restaurant choices on the premises as well.

Review 74:Food was excellent

Review 75:Swimming pool dated. Spa limited.

Review 76:Setting. Courtesy of staff. Room. Welcome drink. Food.

Review 77:there were no washcloth or face towels provided. The room was made once a day and not at night

Review 78:I liked the room, the food, the view from my balcony

Review 79:Sometimes room cleaning was weird

Review 80:Gorgeous location and mountain view, vital club is absolutely fantastic!

Review 81:Definitely not a 4 star hotel and not worth the price.

Review 82:Location

Review 83:need to go naked in the spa area

The Fine Print
