Reviews for The Red Cow - Guest House
Review 1:One of the secondary glazing units is a poor fit which rattles each time a bus goes past and the run every few minutes day and night.
Review 2:Impeccably clean and fresh for a room above a pub.
Review 3:Bed was very tight in the room so there was very little room. The heating did not work in the room but it was on in the pub.
Review 4:Location very close to centre of Richmond. Pub is very good with good beers and friendly atmosphere. Bathroom was fine and shower worked well.
Review 5:Very good value for money in a good location for Richmond centre. Clean spacious comfortable room and top class public bar with friendly helpful staff. Highly recommended.
Review 6:Breakfast was only available in the room and there was no milk provided for the tea / coffee and cereals.
Review 7:Available at short notice for a very good price. Good facilities.
Review 8:Extremely expensive (315 € per night on friday and saturday, making benefit of the rugby match happening in Twickenham), very noisy because of the pub downstairs but between rooms too (we could listen to conference calls at 01:30 in other rooms). The worst: we were asked to pay the total 3 days stay on the arrival, in the pub, before even being able to look at the room (logical, fot that price if they had not taken the total amount in advance we would have left after the first night).
Review 9:Good location, good bed, clean.
Review 10:Very difficult to find any parking, I'd emailed to ask if they had parking but didn't get a response, would have changed booking as had to park quite far away, on the street and long walk with many bagsThe inside of the pub didn't look like the web pictures. Very bright.
Review 11:The manager and his team were very friendly. We arrived late and kitchen was closing but happy to cook us a meal and were very welcoming. The rooms were spacious and clean. Even though they didn't do breakfast and it wasn't included, they left croissants, cereal, yoghurt, cold milk and juice in a little fridge - really lovely touch and appreciated.
Review 12:The room I had ,a better bigger one was still very old . Rooms need complete refurbishment as they were not cheap
Review 13:The staff were excellent very helpful and courteous. Good shower !
Review 14:We had only one bedside lamp working in the room and the light in the ensuite shower room. The unexpected breakfast was a nice touch but unfortunately the ice box in the fridge dripped on one of the pastries and, although it was covered in cling film, it was cold and inedible.
Review 15:The room was a good size and the bed was very comfortable and everything was clean.
Review 16:smoky smell from neighboring rooms, noisy from the pub below on weekends until about midnight
Review 17:fresh milk in the fridge, location (walking distance to Kew and central Richmond), value and an outlet near a mirror (this is often missing in inexpensive London rooms making hair drying a challenge)
Review 18:The location made a walk to the station easy and living above a 200 year old pub made the visit feel authentic. The facilities were clean and comfortable and also well stock for a continental breakfast.
Review 19:We liked the small cosy feel of the Red Cow with only 4 rooms. The rooms themselves were well equipped and felt they had been prepared well to welcome their guests, the staff were friendly and it was nice that we could come and go using our own backdoor key as we pleased. Generous breakfast left ready in the room fridge to help ourselves to in the morning. Would just have liked some soap for hand washing in the bathroom though. We would definitely book again.
Review 20:Parking is tricky, nothing on site, just public on street....though if you leave before 8.30am its free overnight.
Review 21:Great location for Richmond, close to station and town centre. Nice pub downstairs that has live entertainment and good food. Very friendly staff. Continental breakfast with fresh milk in the fridge is in the room, no breakfast served on site. Its on a busy road, but it does go quiet at night. Pretty fast WiFi. Good stay and would stay again.
Review 22:Personally this wasn't an issue for me, but the family room was right above the bar. The bar plays very loud music until close at 12am, so don't have a lick of hope of getting to sleep before then without some earplugs!
Review 23:The staff were really friendly and accommodating! Perfect for a travelling student!
Review 24:No complaints at all!
Review 25:Breakfast surprise in the fridge! Didn't think we had breakfast but found a host of cereals, and crossiants in the fridge along with fresh milk for our tea! So much better than the small cartons you usually get
Review 26:We stayed a Saturday night, and because the rooms are right on top of the pub, it was VERY NOISY, till 2am. When we asked at checkin about noise, we got wrong information both about duration and level of noise. We will not stay there another weekend. There is also noise from the street (as expected)
Review 27:Rooms very nice and clean. No problem to have a pet there.
Review 28:No dedicated/private parking Noisy early morning (bin men)
Review 29:Nice friendly pub Good food & wine Live music Fridge in room with water & fresh milk
Review 30:Leaving
Review 31:Really friendly staff, the room was spacious, well furnished and clean. Even though we made a very last minute booking (few hours prior to arrival) the room was ready and the fridge stocked for our breakfast the following morning. The pub downstairs was an unintended bonus!
Review 32:Breakfast consisted of packets of food left in the room. Very noisy with live music to 1am (no warning)... I mean very loud: it was necessary to raise our voices in the room to hear each other.
Review 33:Friendly staff on arrival. Good location, close to the town and train station.
Review 34:Nothing major, just the worn windows and slightly broken shower head and cable. But overall I'd still stay there again, good guesthouse, good location, good price (well for Richmond anyway).
Review 35:Less than 5mins walk into Richmond town, and the staff were really nice and friendly. Clean room and comfy beds.
Review 36:Only continental breakfast, in the room, but many options nearby
Review 37:The location was perfect, very close to the station Friendly staff..and it's above a pub!
Review 38:No breakfast served in the pub, however tea, coffe, yogurt and croissant were provided in the minibar
Review 39:Clean and charming room. Separate entrance in the evening, safe area few min away from all bars and restaurants.. Highly recommended
Review 40:Car parking could be an issue for some as it is hit or miss if you get a spot close to the hotel as it is on street outside someone's home. Parking permits can be arranged by the hotel if you ask. I didn't bother as i didn't mind the short walk each day.
Review 41:The room was better than expected, double bed and a single 'put me up' bed. Hospitality nice and welcoming. Good access to the town and amenities. Food from the pub below was nice and well presented.
Review 42:This place is noisy, rooms are located above the bar, when they have open mic night or football the place is very busy, obviously a very popular pub, so ear plugs are useful :-)
Review 43:Very comfortable and clean
Review 44:The early beer delivery under my window on the Tues morning plus bit of noise in room from busy bar below but this did not negatively impact to much on what was otherwise a very enjoyable stay.
Review 45:The fridge and complimentary cereals and drinks were a nice touch
Review 46:View from window but i didn't really care that much!
Review 47:Close to Richmond center, friendly welcome, clean room, fresh sheets, hot shower, complimentary breakfast, not fussy.
Review 48:Shampoo/conditioner confusing/not correctly labelled. Parking is a bit of a challenge.
Review 49:Great bed, complementary in room continental breakfast was a nice touch. Recently refurbed, so everything was lovely.
Review 50:I asked for early book-in: the place was locked and nobody there. I was stranded for 3 hours after flying in from Australia. This pub has live music each night - it was pleasant but loud. There was no chance of any sleep before midnight.
Review 51:The location was great.
Review 52:Hated the fact that the heater was off throughout the night. I was arriving late (2, 3 am) and it was pretty terrible to arrive to a cold room. Bathroom was cold throughout the entire day, the little heater didn't help much. A £50/night price would be great.
Review 53:Great shower, great wifi, amazing bed size and cozy feel. Neat, clean and tidy. Complimentary food is always nice and having a kettle/milk eases the morning.
Review 54:Nothing I didn't like, although some may be concerned as it was a bit noisy in the evening as it's above a bar, but it's to be expected. It didn't bother me.
Review 55:NIce touch with extras such as breakfast in room and tea / coffee. Big comfotable bed and excellent wi-fi and tv.
Review 56:First morning breakfast not good - milk day past its use by date and croissant mouldy in places (1 of2)!-no visible date on packaging. No one available until evening when I didn't feel able to shout across busy bar to mention this to perfectly friendly staff.
Review 57:Really comfortable bed, slept well.
Review 58:Among the two rooms that we had booked, one of them was very cold compared to the other.
Review 59:Very well equipped; the fridge was full with food and drinks for breakfast (for free) in abundant quantities! The pub downstairs is a nice place for a drink and the music stops at 11 p.m., so we did not have any trouble sleeping.
Review 60:Be aware there is a regular pub quiz on a Tuesday so if you're not involved probably best to find somewhere else to dine / drink.
Review 61:Very handy, clean with helpful staff. Pub had a good ambience. Short walk to rail station.
Review 62:Didn't worry me but if you are noise sensitive, the rooms are above a bar which is on a busy road and the incoming Heathrow flights pass overhead. Sounds awful but I have stayed here 4 times and it is fine if you are a heavy sleeper or noise tolerant.
Review 63:Location is excellent, room standard and bathroom facilities are excellent. It is room only but there is a mini fridge with complimentary continental breakfast, coffee, tea and soft drinks. If you don't like the big hotel chains, this is for you.
Review 64:To my knowledge, there are two systems of providing electricity: one for power mashines, and another for lighting only. The first worked without problems, but the second was out of service for two or three evenings.
Review 65:Though the house itself is noisy, like every pub, the rooms are calm, and service is good and not obtrusive
Review 66:Due to location a bit noisy. Nothing to do about this, apart from taking earplugs along. Would certainly use again though!
Review 67:Good location with free parking until 10AM. Nice pub Breakfast in fridge very handy and plenty and if needed espresso served opposite. Excellent provision of coffee and tea - not the usual non-brand variety found in affordable B&Bs. Good, powerful shower
Review 68:Fairly noisy until 11.30pm (it is a pub) Bottle bank being emptied 6.00am Friday, groan!
Review 69:Warm welcome, good home-made food, comfortable room, very good value. Fresh milk in the fridge for tea & cereal (provided) gets five stars!
Review 70:Noisy room as above the pub but it is pretty quiet after hours... Although I could hear the snoring man in the room next to me!
Review 71:Comfortable bed and location
Review 72:The location, no parking and the pub itself. No cooked breakfast, just a box of cornflakes, weetabix and croissants from the night before.
Review 73:I liked the bed and bedding and the room was clean.
Review 74:The door to the accommodation between pub and outside door was left on the latch once pub open - I do feel as a lone traveller the staff would not be able to watch this door and anyone could be lurking upstairs - All staff should have access, but the public should be locked out for safety of guests and their belongings.
Review 75:Friendly place, food ok, room clean and bed and pillows really comfortable. Continental breakfast in fridge which was nice touch.
Review 76:Friendly helpful staff. Bag carried to room which is lovely and doesn't happen in most hotels now. Very well thought out accommodation. Comfortable bed and good bed linen. Large quality white towels. Well stocked fridge with croissants, yogurts and drinks a real bonus. Location excellent for train station, theatre, green and shops.
Review 77:PA system way too loud, though it did stop around 11pm Paint peeling off bathroom ceiling Table lamp didn't work, leaving just two reading lamps on bedside, so it was a bit dark. Request for new bulb in lamp not met
Review 78:Comfortable bed
Review 79:Very small room, no parking (not a carpark as advertised), noisy road (but the double glazing worked reasonably and it is in a built-up area)
Review 80:Warm, clean, comfortable bed, good shower, continental breakfast provided in fridge was an unexpected bonus
Review 81:There wasn't enough plug sockets.
Review 82:It was really very comfortable and looked the part. The room offered a lot in relation to tea, coffee, breakfast and being able to play some music during the stay.
Review 83:I really loved the hotel ( despite the Beer trucks unloading at 6am under our window )
Review 84:The size and decor of the room The friendly helpful staff The comfy bed Excellent wifi Richmond!
Review 85:Had to close the window otherwise it would have been much noisier
Review 86:Friendliness of staff member on arrival Room cleanliness Facilities within the room Secondary glazing for noise reduction In room fridge and in room buffet breakfast
Review 87:See above
Review 88:Very comfortable bed. Good facilities but noisy. Seemed that room 1 was adjacent to a generator and noisy collection of empties in morning. (Fri). I would however use Red Cow again.
Review 89:The bedrooms are above the pub and at least in summer, the door from the street and leading direct to the bedrooms is left open. Ok, Richmond is a nice area but if you were really worried about safety you might want more separation between you and the street. The room was fairly noisy, perhaps because the window is original - so thin, badly insulated. Perhaps if you come from a city it won't bother you. This room is one that has the soap and shower gel in containers on the wall. That happens more and more but I'm not thinking it's a plus. The breakfast is put into a fridge the night before.
Review 90:The bedroom is in a nice looking building. The bed was comfortable, the bedclothes were clean. The TV was big.
Review 91:Red Cow is not the "pub type" we fell in love with in London. It is small and cramped with support pillars in inconvenient places and no room for good pub food. The rooms above the pub are reached by a narrow-stepped, twisting, two-story stairway.
Review 92:Richmond on Thames is a charming place to walk around in on a weekend, catching the flavor of young urbanites making their homes in the old buildings of a long-ago era. Red Cow pub is in one of those old converted buildings, and just the right distance for a walk to the village center and the banks of the Thames. The rooms are clean, and for an old converted building, relatively spacious, nicely appointed, and offer a good night's uninterrupted sleep on comfortable beds.
Review 93:The lack of the relatively new "craft" pale ales particularly from California and Scotland. Difficult to open the No1 bedroom window for fresh air at night. Never did work out how to operate the standard lamp in No 1.
Review 94:I liked the trad pub, the bar staff, the other customers. The bed was very comfortable. The security arrangements were good. Servicing the bedroom was first class and regret not leaving a 'tip' for the nice girl.
Review 95:Could have done with a bit more artificial light in the room (only two lamps, which even when turned on and up together were still a little dim). As it's above a pub it could be a bit noisy at night; probably not enough to stop most people sleeping, but worth noting if you're particularly bothered by noise.
Review 96:Excellent location, nice and clean, room was very nicely decorated and felt cosy. Electric fan was a welcome touch; fridge was very useful and included some breakfast. Wifi worked fine. Good shower. Bed very comfortable.
Review 97:Take your ear plugs as noise from pub and street is very loud, there is no sound proofing at all. Particular surprise to travelers is the noise made by metal kegs of beer being delivered at 6am the morning. The road runs along side the pub - literally as there is no pavement so there is a lot of traffic noise.
Review 98:Lovely old pub with clean rooms, not too cramped by London standards. Facilities exactly as advertised. Staff were friendly and the location was good set a little outside Richmond town centre and a tube ride of half an hour or so from London city.
Review 99:On a busy road so if the windows are open then the traffic could be a problem for light sleepers.
Review 100:Handy having breakfast provided in the little fridge. Bed was comfortable and big, as was the room (although my friend's room was quite a bit smaller). Overall, excellent value for money.
Review 101:Friendly greeting, no fuss. Staff were helpful with directions to the trains & Richmond. VERY comfortable bed, nice simple room, nice pub below. Clean and tidy. Didn't hear a sound from other guests. Would highly recommend The Red Cow.
Review 102:Cigarette smoke coming through the window late in the evening.
Review 103:Closeness to transport in all directions. Possible to walk to Richmond Park but bus at the door. There is a great cafe (Nano Cafe) just opposite where you can get a nice breakfast. They have vegemite. Also a pizza shop with the best pizzas. Staff at Red Cow very friendly and helpful. Clean crisp, sheets and big fluffy towels. We had a good time.
Review 104:Nothing negative
Review 105:Clean comfortable room quiet and good location had a great stay
Review 106:Beer delivery a 6:00am, but hey it's a pub.
Review 107:Good bed, nice quiet room, good food, friendly staff
Review 108:Friendly staff, quick check in, could not fault anything about the establishment.
Review 109:On your survey you should put twin room for contracts
Review 110:Towels smelt of cooking oil from the kitchens. The duvans were broken on both beds.
Review 111:Good pub rooms with warm welcome and comfy bed, 5 mins from station. Nice alternative to the usual hotels.
Review 112:Comfortable clean, great staff good food location was key, modern facilities overall exceeded expectations
Review 113:Insufficient lighting
Review 114:Location, comfort
Review 115:The accommodation is over a busy pub.
Review 116:Very comfortable and tastefully furnished room
Review 117:It was close to where I needed to be plus there was a good café on the opposite side of the road.
Review 118:Position
Review 119:Wish they could do a cooked breakfast
Review 120:Staff friendly and location great. Food great.
Review 121:very basic continental breakfast provided in room
Review 122:lovely, comfortable room - very clean and well decorated
Review 123:Staff excellent, helpful - couldn't do enough for you. Nice atmosphere, excellent food and drink
Review 124:Surprised to have breakfast provided I n the room
Review 125:Helpful, cheerful welcoming staff. Good facilities - so much more than "a pub with rooms"!
Review 126:Lovely friendly staff, great location for where I needed to be, the bed was so comfy The Red Cow is a great find
Review 127:Heatwave could have done with air con ..
Review 128:Beds really comfy staff really nice
Review 129:Room was a little gloomy.
Review 130:Well furnished room including an armchair.
Review 131:Noisy, cramped and hugely over priced
Review 132:Good location
Review 133:Would have liked a hot breakfast.
Review 134:Bed was comfy
