Reviews for Glenella Guesthouse

Review 1:Always so relaxing to stay here. A perfect mountain get away. Rowan and Margaret are so lovely and helpful and make such a tasty breakfast. They have just opened a bunkhouse too, to accommodate adventure sport travellers.

Review 2:No alarm clock in the bedroom.

Review 3:Margaret and Rowan are wonderful hosts. Demonstrated sympathy towards the history of the house. Nice to have sitting areas to read. Close to everything.

Review 4:Beautiful, elegant ambiance of this original home and established gardens was charming and relaxing. The wonderful hosts have created a true haven in the historic village. My room and ensuite had everything I needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay, which included a generous freshly cooked breakfast served in the large light filled dining room with views over the trees. Deli and restaurants in the vicinity offer a good selection of take away and dine-in lunch and dinner options. An easy walk from the railway station. I will be back!

Review 5:Nil

Review 6:Welcome, hospitality, friendly, well-managed, helpful, good staff-harmony, clean, accessible to town, informative, good communication, humble, good atmosphere!

Review 7:On a road trip I'm looking for a clean comfortable room with a decent bathroom, good wifi and a breakfast that sets you up for a days exploring. Glenella met all my expectations and had the extra touches like an early evening beer or wine menu and a packed lunch service. I liked the hosts, friendly but happy to leave you in peace too, a good balance struck. Not cheap but good value.

Review 8:Nothing ;-)

Review 9:Super charming place, in the nice village of Blackheath, welcoming staff, fireplace, amazing breakfast. The location of the guesthouse is close to very nice tracks. I definitely recommand it!

Review 10:The cozy Glenella Guesthouse was charming with cascades of rhododendrons (late October), an inviting and comfy wrap around porch for reading or easy conversation, and a full breakfast every morning. Location is convenient walking distance to 1) Blackheath town-center, 2) Govett's Leap hiking and scenic overlook, and 3) train station. Easy driving to other Blue Mountain trails and historic sites. Owners Rowan and Margaret are on-site, knowledgeable, welcoming, friendly, and helpful in all regards.

Review 11:Loved the way we were welcomed and shown around and told a little of the history of the place. Margaret and Rowan were great hosts and the service was very good. The location for was great. Comfortable beds.

Review 12:The homeliness, and history of Guesthouse, owners and staff, friendly, involved and helpful, would recommend to anyone wanting a personal homely experience.

Review 13:The staff here are lovely, keen to help and offer advice about places to visit. The owners are a lovely couple who really make you feel very welcome and want to make your stay very pleasant.

Review 14:Margaret and Rowan are excellent hosts who made us feel very welcome and comfortable (especially our 7 year old daughter). The location of the guest house is fantastic, the breakfasts are delicious and we also enjoyed the Thai restaurant which is a separate business within the guest house.

Review 15:The lack of TV in the room could be a problem, but it didn't bother us - there is a communal television if it's essential

Review 16:The house is beautiful, and the owners are amazingly friendly and accomodating. A great place to come back to after hiking in the Blue Mountains.

Review 17:Margaret and Rowan have created a warm welcoming bed and breakfast right in the heart of Blackheath. We stayed with our three school aged children in the family room for two nights. The accomodation was clean, beds and linens very comfortable and breakfast was a delight. The best coffee in the mountains too! We will be back!

Review 18:some smells in the room from the Thai restaurant

Review 19:heritage building with lots of charm close to Blackheath centre enthusiastic hosts lovely breakfasts

Review 20:Room was very small. No room for luggage. Thai restaurant wasn't good but we were warned.

Review 21:The staff were great and it seemed like a really happy place to work. A beautiful historic building, lovely area to sit by the fire and relax with a glass of wine.

Review 22:We were an extended family group containing 4 parents and 7 adult children (23 - 27). We hired 6 of the 7 bedrooms. The common area of lounges/chairs with the open fire place was excellent for us to be able to gather to catch up and have pre-dinner drinks and nibbles prior to dinner. We walked out for a meal at a local restaurant Night 1 - Fri and used the restaurant on site (thai) Night 2 - Sat. We were very grateful to have access to fridges for storing nibbles and drinks. The breakfast was very good and being able to have a proper espresso coffee with breakfast was excellent. All round a great weekend in a great venue with great hosts.

Review 23:Great location just a few mins walk away from Blackheath station and very close to Govetts leap. Very cozy rooms & a wonderful host! Great breakfast as well!

Review 24:Friendly staff, beautiful old guest house, cosy fire in main lounge, very good Thai Restaurant on site and warm comfortable rooms and beds. Loved my first time there.

Review 25:This hotelier could not have done more / been more helpful.

Review 26:Hospitality, personal touch, location is away from the worst of the tourist hordes this region tends to attract giving you an authentic and local feel which is less easy to come by these days. The guesthouse was also perfectly positioned for a spot of Bushwalking along the valley's edge. Map and advice about where best to walk. Lovely departure gift in the shape of home made berry cake x

Review 27:Could hear some of the other guests in the hallway and moderate/loud noises through the walls. Though this is a house and fairly understandable regarding the age of the guesthouse.

Review 28:Super quaint old country cottage, lovely hosts and a warm fire to enjoy in the evening. Loved that there was a fully stocked tea station in our room.

Review 29:The in house restaurant food needs improvement.

Review 30:New owners made us feel welcome. My family connection with "Glenella was appreciated.Hope to go again this year.

Review 31:We enjoyed our stay at Glenellla in this historic guesthouse The rooms are comfortable , the location excellent and the hosts have created a quiet and relaxing environment . Everything was well organised and breakfast was superb . .

Review 32:The staff were friendly and very helpful. Situated in middle of shops and galleries, coffee shops and restaurants, lovely village to walk around. The breakfast was excellent with friendly staff. Heritage building but electric blankets and air conditioner for warmth. Big fire in community lounge in evening.

Review 33:There was a stake cabbage smell in the bathroom that I think must relate to plumbing . I understand they are renovating and improving things and I expect this will be rectified with this .

Review 34:This atmosphere and staff are lovely , the owners attentive and friendly . Breakfast just right .

Review 35:Glenella is BEAUTIFUL as is the town of Blackheath. It felt like staying at a friend's house from the moment I walked through the door. I would DEFINITELY stay there again and recommend it to anyone. Slept better there than I do at home!

Review 36:Would be good to have own tv.

Review 37:Great location, close to wonderful walks. Comfortable guesthouse, comfy bed. Electric blankets were a bonus in middle of winter.

Review 38:Room not serviced or fresh towels provided.

Review 39:Very friendly and welcoming hosts. Room very small (good sized ensuite) but well equipped; no TV which didn't worry us. Comfortable beds and good heating. Excellent breakfast.

Review 40:Some draft excluders for the doors would be good especially when it is really cold.

Review 41:Great room, guest area and an excellent breakfast. Great value for the money

Review 42:Our room was quite small although other rooms are of a good size and our shower temperature was difficult to control. Just minor details as our stay was truely wonderful.

Review 43:Margaret and Rowan were the perfect hosts. Warm and welcoming, gave us great recommendations on hikes in the area and genuinely wanted us to have a wonderful experience. The breakfast was no fuss, presented well and plenty of yummy choices. Location was perfect for hiking in the Blackheath area and walking to the local shops and eateries. The lounge room area is lovely and roomy for gathering around the open fire place.

Review 44:when there is a lot of vacancy, would be nice to have been given a better room, especially mid-week, same deal for owners - bed to make, clean room, wash cups etc.

Review 45:old style, convenient, friendly and no fuss, breakfast and value for money

Review 46:Disappointed main restaurant has become Thai. However we did not eat in the restaurant so cannot comment on the food or service

Review 47:Friendly, clean, comfortable and good value.

Review 48:Margaret and Rowen were fantastic, friendly hosts, who went above and beyond our expectations to make us feel welcome and comfortable. Breakfast was 'superb'

Review 49:Not really a bad experience but suggest a box of toys or space for young kids to entertain themselves so parents can enjoy their meal too.

Review 50:The new owners are doing a great job to make you feel welcome and comfortable. The rooms are cozy but perfect for a short stay. Breakfast delicious, suggest a bit of green on offer too.

Review 51:Our hosts Margaret and Rowan could not have been more helpful or engaging. This guesthouse is close to the attractions of Govett's Leap and Hargreaves Lookout and Blackheath's local shops, restaurants and galleries. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting by the fire in the vestibule and it was a bonus to have a yummy Thai meal available on the premises. Breakfast was delicious and by following Margaret's suggestions we enjoyed the Megalong Valley and tearooms later in the day.

Review 52:We loved our stay at Glenella. The children particularly liked meeting the resident cat Ella, the climbing tree in the front garden and having breakfast in the dining room. We loved the cosiness of the bedrooms and the unique character of the place. Being so close to the village was also a plus. A refreshing change from the typical hotel brass and glass!

Review 53:The restaurant within the b&b is not run by Glenella. We ate there because it's convenient with lovely full glass view of garden but the food was disappointing. Beef was very tough and tasted old.

Review 54:Relaxing ; cosy; convenient location.

Review 55:No clock in room and heating from air conditioning over right side of bed.

Review 56:Dinner was good and girl from Finland was lovely and efficient and had only been there 2 days.Restaurant was good.

Review 57:The facilities at Glenella Guest House were adequate and the Owners (Rowan and Margaret) were friendly and accommodating. We weren't disappointed with our stay, as everything that was promised was delivered.

Review 58:Smell of room, especially the bathroom (we were probably next to the kitchen if the tai restaurant). We had to air it out every time we returned to the room. we extended a night but were charged at a higher rate and not the rate we payed on booking.com. Not a nice discovery on the day of checkout

Review 59:Great location, super friendly staff, great breakfast, charming common room, quiet area, helpful advice from staff. Free wifi was very fast and easy to access. The room and bed were old fashioned in a good way and very comfy. The best thing about this property was definitely the owners/staff. They certainly made the stay an excellent one and I would recommend this property to anyone and look forward to returning myself.

Review 60:Roaring fire upon entry and very homely feel throughout. Good location, walking distance to plenty of restaurant options & shops. Excellent hospitality from new owners.

Review 61:Made to feel very welcome from day one of our 3 day stay nothing to much for our hosts u had a problem it was dealt with could not fault it and breakfast was fantastic

Review 62:Our room was very very small, but fine for what we needed.

Review 63:The new owners are very warm and friendly and ensured we had a comfortable stay. The building itself is beautiful with great character. Rooms and living areas were spotlessly clean. Thai restaurant onsite was excellent also.

Review 64:The wifi was very weak although we didn't persist as we had alternatives. A minor suggestion that would lift the breakfast offerings: bread from the local bakery instead of the packaged kind and real jams and marmalade rather than sachets.

Review 65:I've stayed here several times through different owners. Great location as it's right in Blackheath but away from the highway noise. Nice old building and garden, with interesting interior with character. New hosts were exceptionally friendly and the room and bathroom were fine. Breakfast was included and was good.

Review 66:There was no bar service.

Review 67:The reading chairs outside of our room on the verandah. Very close to everything. The garden is rather nice. Breakfast. The room was lovely. Rowan (the owner) was wonderfully friendly.

Review 68:Room 8 is very small! The smell of thai food can be too strong, the guest house's restaurant is Thai. Although having eaten here one night the food was good!

Review 69:Friendly and helpful staff, central location, a beautiful building with comfortable lounge area, excellent breakfast with freshly cut up fruit, tasty porridge, Nutella and other spreads including owner's own honey, choice of how you want the eggs bacon, mushrooms etc cooked!

Review 70:No make up of the room during our stay (rubbish were full and towels wet) Cleanless of the paint Breakfast a little bit poor

Review 71:Location Tradtionnal house victorian style Lobby with info and fire

Review 72:Miss TV in room.

Review 73:This a old but fonctional house. New owners (2 months only) really want to give an unforgettable stay and it is what's hapenning. Very good breakfast. Warm central social place near lobby. Free WIFI. Wine tasting (owners will offer soon wine by glass in social place - good)

Review 74:The curtains in our room were heavy which made the room dark. You need an option to make the room lighter but still have privacy. We also had silly little chairs to sit on and the room needs a table.

Review 75:The room was comfortable we had french doors opening onto the verandah which was really pleasant. The staff were friendly and helpful.Breakfast was yummy and well presented.Nothing was a problem. We enjoyed our stay

Review 76:Wifi didn't work in our apartment (only out the front of the building). Also the other guests were a bit noisy - workers off early in the morning - walls a bit thin.

Review 77:The view, the wildlife in the garden, the location near river beach, ocean beach, town, own parking space, good size rooms, well-equipped kitchen, apartment nicely done out, Bruce and Sarah (owners) lovely people.

Review 78:Room was far to small The building was in need of urgent renovation. Breakfast menu needs to be addressed. There was no servicing of the rooms

Review 79:Location

Review 80:No tv in bedroom and shower was very small. Still would stay again though.

Review 81:Was a nice place for a getaway, staff were very friendly, Thai resturant on site. Room was nice, unfortunately bed was a little lumpy.

Review 82:The building is a beautiful old manor, but it is in desperate need of both cosmetic refurbishment and a designer's eye. The AC in our room was not working, tiles in the shower were chipped, and small, non-functional things such as the fact there was no shelf in the shower were annoying. The owner mentioned she had sol the business so hopefully when the new owners come along they will fix the problems as it has the potential to be a lovely guesthouse.

Review 83:The location was good for a weekend of walking, and the dining space is a nice sunny room where we had breakfast each day, which doubles as a Thai restaurant at night.

Review 84:Very dilapidated. Garden unkempt.Stayed 2 nights but room was not serviced, and no one available to raise any concern.Bathroom unsafe, no soap dish or shelf in shower compartment.Threadbare carpets in room.Should not have been made available in this condition.

Review 85:Staff were nice and friendly.Location good

Review 86:Had to pay for another room in order to get own bed!! Rooms dusty and paintwork dirty

Review 87:Hostess very sweet and helpful with tourist info, but if I request single beds then I should have been informed that this was not available with 2 months notice.

Review 88:The staff and owner made us feel so at home and were a delight to meet. Great cooked breakfast. Very restful and quiet. The Thai restaurant is also fabulous. A warm fire greats you and the welcome from Kate and Zoe was equally warm.

Review 89:Cold mornings i was first up at 7.30 and no one about to start warning the place up in the middle of winter. They need the heater or fire on early so visitors don't freeze waiting for breakfast. It was a very cold morning and vistors were leaving the breakfast to put extra cloths on even though we were already dressed warmly. Sitting in a snow jacket for breakfast isn't comfortable. Dont let this put you off staying here though. The bedrooms and hallways were very warm which I guess is the main thing.

Review 90:It was quiet and peaceful although booked out. It's a really charming classic place and the Thai restaurant is excellent. Apart from the lack of heating in the mornings we had the peaceful getaway we were desperate for. Would defiantly stay again.

Review 91:rooms have little heating so smell damp,( AC heating takes long time to heat up) very cold in the morning as heating not on. Wood fire in main living / reception had too much smoke. No TV in room.

Review 92:Nice terrace, close to village centre (200m), great breakfast, friendly owner

Review 93:Rooms are looking a little tired and in need of some fresh paint.

Review 94:Charming old guesthouse with a wonderful host, Kate. Lovely central sitting area with fireplace. Cooked breakfast was great.

Review 95:Perhaps a better heating system is required? To keep the room warm we had to have the reverse cycle heating on quite high, which meant a very dry environment. Breakfast, while simple and charmingly homely, was a long drawn out affair due to clear lack of staffing and/or waiting experience. But nice if you have the time!

Review 96:Cute little guesthouse, simple but clean accommodation. Lovely fireplace. Nice to have a communal area to mingle with other guests. Room was very small, but adequate for a couple of nights' stay. Lovely garden out the back, and nice sunny view of it from the breakfast area.

Review 97:small bathroom,no TV in room,uncomfortable bed

Review 98:close to railway

Review 99:No bad experience

Review 100:People running the place most delightful The area located for dinner etc. most appealing

Review 101:Loved this place.

Review 102:We booked on line and when we arrived it was closed for restoration!

Review 104:Friendly attentive staff. locations so perfect. Great good breakfast. Beautiful house. Will stay again.

Review 105:Fantastic hosts, awesome atmosphere

Review 106:The owners were very friendly and helpful about where to dine and finding local services

Review 107:Friendly old world charm. Peaceful, relaxing will definitely return.

Review 108:Margaret and Rowan are wonderful hosts. They are very friendly and were very helpful. We really enjoyed our stay. :)

Review 109:Staff were friendly, the breakfast included was tasty, beds were super comfy and it was a very convenient location.

Review 110:The fact that the guest house retains original Edwardian features and the owners imbue the house with their individual taste

Review 111:Location - close to walks and restsurants

Review 112:Wonderful ambience and hospitality. Looking forward to a return. hosts Margaret and Rowan bring something special to this historic house v.

Review 113:The place is rather old and bedrooms small.
