Reviews for Old Kings Arms Hotel
Review 1:Nothing at all
Review 2:Very friendly staff, good atmosphere. comfortable and spacious room, good size and comfortable bed, free wifi, breakfast available from 6.30 and very good too, in town with its own car park (but get the post code for the car park from the hotel as it is hard to find), a pub too so good beer. Overall - best hotel I have stayed in in a long time.
Review 3:This is best thought of as an inn with rooms, located at the heart of the town and its history, with the life of Pembroke flowing through its bars and restaurant so that you come to feel part of the community. The food is well cooked and the portions generous, though some would wish for some lighter, healthier options, especially for breakfast. It is worth paying extra to have one of the better rooms, which are comfortable and welcoming.
Review 4:Perfect base for a family holiday exploring Pembroke coast: comfortable rooms, helpful staff, good location, and excellent food. And all very good value for money. Many thanks
Review 5:Excellent location, feet from Pembroke Castle and within easy walking distance of both bus stop and train station. Rooms were quiet and towards the back. Room and breakfast quality were as expected for a village pub - cozy but nothing fancy. Good value for money as an option right in the heart of Pembroke
Review 6:Yes i did , because i booked up to stay with them tho Booking.com . And when i got there thay tryed to say that i was not booked up to stay with them . And thay tryed to stay that maybe . I was booked up to stay at a naver Kings Armys with the some name in Swindon , that num of the localls in Swindon hand hard of . And that num of the localls that i spook with new that there was a naver Kings Armys in the Town . I ended up staying at a naver place in Swindon insted . I find the Kings Armys to be poor because thay did do nothink to help .
Review 7:Corridors to rooms narrow, problem if moving several bags at once. WiFi was awful - kept cutting off and dropping connection.
Review 8:Staff friendly and helpful. Meals were good and plenty of choice, but seemed to be little for vegetarians.
Review 9:Shower wasn't brilliant (not power shower) but did the job!
Review 10:Had an atmospheric charm of an old world coaching inn. Clean hotel and very nice staff. Manager chatted with us over breakfast and gave us tips of where to visit.
Review 11:Convenient location to explore west Wales and Pembroke Castle on your doorstep. The presentation of this castle has been impressively improved from our last visit a few years ago.
Review 12:A bit dated but that adds to the charm.
Review 13:staff were brilliant and we had dinner in the restaurant that evening which was only sublime. I couldn`t praise it enough.
Review 14:Rooms were fairly basic but had nice touches like tea and coffee in the rooms and toiletries. Room overlooked a little garden courtyard. Hotel was steps from Pembroke Castle. Slept well. Breakfast was excellent, staff was helpful. We would return if we are back in Wales.
Review 15:The bathroom was well worn and while very clean it needs an up date. The matress on the bed also was not so comfortable and I assume it was because it needs to be up dated
Review 16:Central location close to the castle, charming old pub hotel with an exceptional restuarant for this type of establishment. The staff were very knowledgable about the town and the area.
Review 17:The rooms we stayed in were so out of date it was like going back to the 70s, They really need updating and a total revamp I've thrown away better furniture that was in our room
Review 18:The Service from staff was great and staff were happy The meal we had in the evening was fabulous and a good quantity of it too
Review 19:Nothing to dislike.
Review 20:The owner was very friendly and incredibly helpful, always willing to give advice on how to reach other places in Pembrokeshire (he even printed out maps and bus timetables for me). The food served in the bar/restaurant is both varied and delicious. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Overall, this is a very pleasant, well-run hotel right in the middle of town.
Review 21:The staff were very helpful and friendly. I travelled by bike which they helped me store inside. I was contacted in the morning as I had overslept to check if I was coming for breakfast as I was a bit late.
Review 22:Vegetarian breakfast not catered for despite request. Mentioned to desk clerk who said he would take point on board. Room pleasant and adequate for requirements, however, mould in bath/shower and pubic hairs in bath. Staff friendly and accommodating, food in restaurant very good. Overall, a pleasant experience, but a few minor issues as identified.
Review 23:The food in the evening was interesting and appealing, a good choice of local ales and wine.
Review 24:Staff very polite and friendly the place itself is welcoming with two bar areas plus a nice restaurant with a cozy feel to it, and excellent food I may add. Overall top notch we will be staying again.:-)
Review 25:All good.
Review 26:True "pub" atmosphere Friday evening. Food delicious, craft beer plentiful and friendly atmosphere. Short walk to the castle and around quaint town. Parking on site was tricky to find but very handy.
Review 27:We found the cooked breakfast a bit greasy so only had the full English on the first morning, had beans or egg on toast after that. Time to grill, not fry!
Review 28:Location right by the castle and river and a good base for exploring Pembrokeshire. Friendly staff, food was nice in restaurant
Review 29:There was nothing we could find fault with.
Review 30:Staff were very friendly and helpful, breakfast was great. , lovely clean room and very comfy bed, I left my lights on the night before and had a flat battery, the owner came out with jump leads, not once but twice, next chance we get for a short break we will be back,
Review 31:Bed was covered with a throw which had a brown mark in the centre, could of been faeces.... not changed on the second day. Hotel door wouldn't look when leaving.. decided not to leave any valuables in room. Single room could in much need of updating. Bathroom musty damp smell. Windows didn't open.. no fresh air
Review 32:Restaurant food, Bar etc., excellent
Review 33:Room set off our hay fever immediately! Probably the rooms aren't aired sufficiently and as there are a lot of fabrics -- we are both allergic to dust mites.
Review 34:The food was fantastic, albeit priced accordingly. Also a great selection of ales on tap and carefully chosen wines. Lovely view from the room's big bay window.
Review 35:Very minor point but TV in room couldn't 'access B T sport as advertised.
Review 36:The service; excellent value for money; comfortable room and bed and good food.
Review 37:The room was cold, it managed to get up to tepid with the radiator on full. I'm almost never cold, I wore a fleece and hat to bed!
Review 38:They bought in soya milk...that was great
Review 39:With an old building comes the cold during the winter which can't be helped. When I got to the room it was cold. There was however, a plug-in heater and a radiator. Both went on maximum whilst I went to dinner. After a couple of hours of warming up, the room was lovely. Just remember to pack a jumper!
Review 40:Lovely building with lots of character. Great food with good service. The atmosphere in the pub section was warm and welcoming and the bar was well stocked with different ales. In the room the Wi-Fi was very easy to access so it didn't take forever to get to work on the laptop. The room was well proportioned with a very comfy bed.
Review 41:Nothing. It'll be superb when all rooms are done.
Review 42:Location in the town is superb, lovely bar and wonderful food served by attentive, friendly and helpful staff. On this stay I stayed in one of the recently refurbished bedrooms (No12) and it was much improved. The older rooms are fine but lovely to have the newer one on this occasion. Car park is very useful but pay careful attention to the instructions as it's at the rear of the hotel and not accessible from the front of the hotel (you must use the back street to get in and it's one way. Not a problem but don't be surprised to have to drive round the block if it's your first time.. Easy when you get the right approach. Read the instructions on the website.
Review 43:Bathroom very tired and in need of redecoration.
Review 44:Food in the restaurant was fabulous for both dinner and breakfast. Room was comfortable and a good size if a bit dated.
Review 45:Decor could be improved in Bar/lounge. Varnished pine a bit dated and doesn't match rest of building. But who really cares about that.
Review 46:The restaurant was excellent. The smoked haddock breakfast was wondrous in taste, though presentation could be improved. Dinner menu also very good. Great real ales.
Review 47:Room good size but a long walk to get to. Our room at the back #14 on memory had a very noisy water heater or something that went on every 10 minutes all night keeping us awake. Very annoying. We did report it to the staff but they did not come and listen when we mentioned it?
Review 48:Character hotel very English. Great location near the Castle.meals and staff ok.
Review 49:The sound insulation wasn't very good so our sleep was slightly interrupted.
Review 50:We stayed here whilst preparing for the Welsh Ironman race, and were delighted to find very friendly staff who fed us very well, even to the extent of offfering a cooked breakfast at 4am on the day of the race! The inn is very pleasant and perfectly situated next to Pembroke Castle and local shops. Excellent free wifi and car parking. We had fairly basic but perfectly comfortable single rooms at a very good price.
Review 51:I liked pretty much everything. Room was comfortable, with a great bed and everything worked without fuss. It was an economy room at £55 per night, so it wasn't luxury but completely suitable. The beer was good, the food was excellent, breakfast started from 7am (super feature - wish more establishments did that!) and the staff were the best I've meet in recent memory. The location was also great, on thehigh street and just 200 yards from the excellent pembroke castle. If you like castles and exploring old towns and the Pembrokeshire this is the place for you.
Review 52:Nothing not to like.
Review 53:Fantastic fresh local produce on offer. The presentation and flavours of the food are excellent. Cockles, bacon and seaweed starter was very tasty. The main of roasted belly pork melted in the mouth. Washed down with a couple of Welsh brewery beers. The bacon and sausage at breakfast are the best you will taste. They get the meat from a local butcher in Narberth. I always try to get a room there when down in Pembrokeshire on business.
Review 54:My evening meal was less than first class but my comments were listened to and a appropriate adjustment made.
Review 55:The room I stayed in (no 4) was a very good use of the available space under the roof. There are exposed beams, built in wardrobe and on suite facilities. Breakfast is freshly cooked and first class.
Review 56:can't think of anything other than a loo roll holder would be a great advantage to the refurb bathroom, it's a tad difficult trying to grab the roll off the top of the cistern.....
Review 57:second time staying here and the newly refurbed room is great. Staff really caring and the breakfast is fresh cooked plus the chef can do a grilled tomato, hats off to the chef. Sick and tired of being served half raw grilled Tom,s or some out of the can plum tomato at other locations. Well done all round.
Review 58:On a first visit, if you miss the turn for the car park you have to go right round the one way system again. Explaining where the entrance is on the booking form would be helpful. However, when you've done it once it's easy.
Review 59:An excellent little hotel with wonderful staff and probably the most consistently good breakfasts ever! Delighted to find they did single rooms with no deposit and no pressure to pay the bill until I wanted to. This is now my hotel of choice when in Pembrokeshire.
Review 60:Bedroom was a bit soulless but served it's purpose, and window opened over the kitchen bins (in courtyard).
Review 61:Old style town centre hostelry. Yes a bit dated, but full of old world charm. Selection of real ales in the bar. Good food in the restaurant (too busy on first night so had to eat in the bar). Ample car parking at rear.
Review 62:Decor bit tired but homely.... Corridors might be a challenge for size14+....
Review 63:Friendly and helpful staff My single room was generous, and v clean and tidy Cost was reasonable compared to equivalents elsewhere in Pembroke town centre
Review 64:Myself & my mum travelled & stayed here for a family funeral. The rooms were clean & comfortable. We ate in the pub & the food was good. We had initially booked for 2 nights but only stayed the one & the staff were very helpful & accommodating. If staying in Pembroke I would highly recommend.
Review 65:If I could pick a fault, I had a (beautiful) south facing room and it was during a very hot clammy spell of weather - those three rooms on that south side would benefit from some kind of air conditoning or air cooling. This is a tiny point. Had the weather been more typical, this wouldn't have been an issue. But then on the other hand, AC units, wall mounted are quite inexpensive these days.
Review 66:Location, service, wi-fi. Car park facilities. Bar, food. All pretty good and wrapped up in a decent room rate. Staff friendly and welcoming and actually take an interest in the guests that are coming to stay. I woild stay again and I would pass the word around.
Review 67:No Sky TV, despite what it says on the booking form!
