Reviews for Lamphey Hall Hotel

Review 1:Not sure where to start here! We were not given a wifi password so could not access the internet at all, quite important for us. We stayed in the "family apartment", with the bedrooms (no doors) and bathroom upstairs. There was nowhere downstairs to fill the kettle for a drink, and no fridge or microwave (glad we didn't have any youngsters with us). The bathroom had no toilet roll holder, and no soap. The separate outside door of this "apartment" is right next to the rubbish-yard area of the hotel, and we were woken very early by the crashing of bottles (maybe recycling) and then a bit later on by barrels banging very loudly just outside the door as the draymen delivered. At that point we gave up trying to sleep on the thin mattress. The television in the "apartment" looks like it came out of the ark, it's so old! There is a door from the living area which goes directly into the staff changing area of the hotel; this was not locked - we didn't realise this until just before bedtime so our luggage had not been secured in the room as we'd thought - and the lock on it was stuffed with paper which we had to remove to secure the door. While the cooked breakfast was freshly done to order and very nice, it was very very offputting to see green MOULD on the danish pastries, and the cheese selection must have been sitting there a long time as it was all sweaty and warm. Same applies to the sliced ham, which had a slightly strange aroma so was not edible either. All in all unbelievably disappointing for a hotel with this general rating, and needless to say we certainly won't be staying again - one night was way more than enough...

Review 2:The cooked part of breakfast was nice. Staff were friendly.

Review 3:Was not the room we booked a room with a jacuzzi bath and our room given was downstairs shower room with sliding door -ugh no privacy. No reason for this as only three rooms taken Evening meal starter good but main course not as stated and fish inedible.Breakfast good though

Review 4:Nice towels in the shower room

Review 5:Unfortunate issue with food. Suspect it was a fluke so not usual. Decor in room could do with updating. Not sure why they had to use smelly air fresheners in the room..

Review 6:Great staff, eager to please. Great location.

Review 7:shower was difficult to get the right temperature and was a little small slight odour of pets on the staircase/hallway breakfast room a little hot

Review 8:lovely garden and views from the room we had . nicely decorated room spacious plentiful supplies of tea and coffee in the room very good breakfast

Review 9:The price quotes for myself and my 8year old daughter on booking.com was £40 less than I had to pay. I was understandably not happy with with this

Review 10:Hotel was really lovely staff very helpful, good food.

Review 11:The evening meal portions were huge, I don't like leaving food. Lovely hotel let down by little things like chipped plates, grout fallen out between bathroom tiles etc

Review 12:The best breakfast display that I've seen in any hotel. Knocked spots off some 5* hotels!

Review 13:Small room, broken chair and stool in room, food disgusting and I left early with severe abdominal pain and diaorrhea. Staff useless young people. No manager present. No WiFi available despite promise of it. Sunday we were banned from leaving the hotel as an IronMan bike ride was on. There was NO advance warning of this before we arrived. The bed was VERY uncomfortable. I can not think of one good thing to say. We left 3 days early as unable to stand anymore.

Review 14:nothing

Review 15:excellent staff.very friendly and efficient service.excellent value for money.great chef serving fantastic food nothing too much trouble for him.great location only five minute drive to the coastal paths.

Review 16:Had to boil kettle on the floor as lead was too short. Found a fire door propped open on several occasions. Decor cluttered and over-fussy.

Review 17:Comfortable bed, large room, good breakfast.

Review 18:I phoned enroute to say we'd be late & were told he would leave a note on the door as to where we could find the keys to let ourselves in. Unfortunately this didn't happen as planned but we managed, see next comment.

Review 19:We arrived very late (after midnight) on a very stormy night but with help from other guests we found our room. There is no night porter but luckily for us another guest was up & about & let us in. He had stayed there loads of time & knew their system well. He verified our details (address, postcode phone no etc) & we filled out registration cards found our key & let us into our room. Excellent

Review 20:My only complaint was I had requested Gluten free at the time of booking but could not have toast for breakfast as the bread was still in freezer. Also I did struggle with the pillows.

Review 21:Very friendly staff, excellent food, great location .

Review 22:The bed squeeked. I could not complete some of the above as when I clicked it did not accept.Took seveal attempts for all of them. The food was excellent. Particuarly breakfast

Review 23:The food. The staff were very pleasant. Convenient for both Pembroke and Tenby

Review 24:Lamphey hall is a comfortable friendly hotel well situated for the Pembrokeshire coast. The evening meal in the restaurant was excellent and they have an impressive wine list. Breakfast was excellent too. We really enjoyed our stay!

Review 25:We were very disappointed with the wait time for food in the dining room. Booked table for 8pm starter arrived at 9.30pm. Cleanliness in the public toilet very poor, floor wet and toilet dirty.

Review 26:Fabulous food, lovely friendly atmosphere, beautiful dining room and bar. The owners are charming and made us feel very welcome, we'll definitely be going back!

Review 27:When booking, we had searched for a room for B&B for 2 adults and 3 children. Lamphey Hall offered a Family Apartment on these terms for one night at £89.50 to include breakfast. On checkout they charged us another £20 as they said breakfast was not included in the price for the children!! When querying this, the owner said he was always getting this problem!! Well perhaps you should sort it out and make it clear on the site what is and what isn't included in the price. Very misleading and spoiled the break.

Review 28:Good Location

Review 29:The customer service was average. When we arrived we had to wait for receptionist long time. Then we were waiting for manager which said that our booking does not exist in the system. In the end they had a vacancies so we got a room. We spent just 1 night in Lamphey Hall and we left our car in the hotel car park. In the morning we found a car with the scraches on the car side and the car door have been smashed. The hotel staff has been informed but they could not do anything as they do not have CCTV outside:-(

Review 30:We really enjoy tyhe nice dishes during a breakfast which was included in price.

Review 31:Not being able to stay another night!

Review 32:The staff were brilliant. My friend is a vegan and I had let the hotel know in advance. They went to so much trouble to prepare a very nice vegan meal for her, even though they weren't expecting us for dinner. She rated the meal in her top ten vegan restaurant meals of all time! All the staff were very professional and genuinely welcoming, and very well trained. Amy the 'hostess' was exceptional - nothing was too much trouble. Thank you all so much for making our one night stay so perfect.

Review 33:All members of staff were courteous and outwardly happy. This establishes a pleasant environment which was complimented by the exceptional standard of catering. Both staff and management were exceptionally flexible and dedicated to ensure the best guest experience.

Review 34:Nothing

Review 35:The room was clean and spacious, with a large comfortable bed and big shower and bath in the en suite. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was excellent. The hotel was conveniently located and although on a road was very quiet at night.

Review 36:We think dinners were over complicated. I'm not for a moment suggesting a change to 'new' cuisine or sample portions but we found the dishes unnecessarily big and contained too many varieties of vegatables.

Review 37:Very disappointed on going to use the Jacuzzi bath that it was not working. It was rectified though after I had bathed and it spoiled the overall experience. No mattress protector on the bed.

Review 38:Welcoming, friendly staff. Cozy lounge for drinks. Fabulous food.

Review 39:No longer free wifi but we do understand costs. We did try to pay but server was down so had a bored .16 year old with us

Review 40:Everything that's why we keep going back

Review 41:We felt that the rooms needed updating, bathroom door didn't close. Work had been done to the ceiling but plaster not been painted over. Step from the bathroom dangerous as sign going into the bathroom but no sign on inside of door. Very poor choice of evening meal unless you like steak! My vegetarian choice was absolutely disgusting

Review 42:There was a terrible stench coming from the drainage system of the en suite bathrooms which were back to back to each other between our two bedrooms. They moved us to different rooms without hesitation but if none had been free we could not have stayed there so they need to sort it out. No wifi.

Review 43:Lots of floral prints and chintz gives it an old-fashioned, warm and cosy feel. Friendly staff willing to do everything to help you. A top reputation locally for food - Sunday lunchtime was full with regulars. Very relaxed.

Review 44:BATHROOM REQUIRES A LITTLE MORE ATTENTION TO DETAIL E.G. PLUNGER IN HANDBASIN IN ROOM 4 STILL NOT WORKING. WATER LEAKING FROM CONTROL FITTING IN SHOWER. JUST A TIGHTER CHECK NEEDED

Review 45:LOCATION DECORE AMBIENCE STAFF BREAKFAST WARMTH OF ROOMS WARMTH OF WELCOME ANDREA

Review 46:leaving!

Review 47:Absolutely brilliant staff at the hotel as friendly as you can be & helpful. Stunning food inc breakfast and evening meals, definitely come again

Review 48:There was nothing to dislike

Review 49:We loved the whole experience and fully agree with the previous reviewer who said "Friendly, highly professional staff making our stay completely stress-free and relaxing. The food is superb and the service and presentation in the magnificent dining room was perfection" We will be regular visitors.

Review 50:Nothing much! Rooms a little dated and bed quite uncomfortable, but otherwise great.

Review 51:Beautiful hotel in good location. Staff really helpful, and breakfast was excellent. Good facilities with wifi etc. Ensuite very good and modern.

Review 52:The shower cubicle ,if anything was on the small size.

Review 53:The menu and food were excellent. The breakfast selection was the best we have ever seen including 5 star hotels. The rooms were of good size and well appointed. We cannot find a bad word to say apart from temptation to eat too much.We enjoyed the walks around the village and the close proximity to several places of interest.

Review 54:Extremely welcoming and friendly staff, excellent breakfast (for size, quality and choice). Didn't actually eat in the hotel so can't rate, however if the breakfast is anything to go by it must be good. We stayed in the Apartment which is a great option if you require that bit of extra space, it was comfortable and warm and great value. All in all we both hope to visit the Lamphey hall hotel again some time.

Review 55:The toilet seemed to have a problem with flushing especially down stairs could not put paper down.

Review 56:The menu and food was excellent my husband loved the crab

Review 57:The fact that when we made the booking we were not told that due to the Wales Ironman passing the hotel 3 times we were virtually imprisoned at the hotel until 3.30 p.m. My wife was able to leave by train on the one train of the day at 12.06. Our purpose in being there was to support my son who was taking part in the event and help look after our grandchildren - so it was a huge waste of time and money staying at this hotel. The owner apparently thought it was quite amusing. We stayed in room 4. It has a large dressing table with a mirror in front of the window so about 90% of the light is obscured. When you look around this out of the window you realise why - the view is of about 1/2 acre of flat roof and the extraction pipes from the kitchen below. Even in daytime you have to put the lights on to read in the room. Other than that the room is fine, but two nights was enough. When we turned up for breakfast on the first morning, which we had booked for 08.00 there was nobody around. I went in the kitchen and rang the bell at reception - no one there at all until the owner turned up at 08.20 and asked if we wanted coffee. No apology. I wonder if he is a graduate of the Basil Fawlty Institute of Hospitality? When I took a bath in the "Whirlpool" type bath it would not switch on. Just as well really because a large amount of scummy skin flakes came out of the nozzles anyway. I had to take a hot shower to wash the scum off.

Review 58:It was quiet and we slept well The staff were friendly and helpful Our evening meal was pretty good. This hotel is an experience - I would describe it as eccentric, my wife though it was "quirky".

Review 59:Due to popularity the restaurant can get very busy. Book in advance even if your staying here!

Review 60:The owners and staff at this hotel make you extremely welcome. The food is excellent and very good value for money. You wont find a more comprehensive selection of breakfast items anywhere!

Review 61:I did have to wait at reception for a while on several occasions but this is understandable given it's a small business. A light bulb was missing from my room (though it was replaced quickly) and in general the room was very dark. The room was a bit dated and the door didn't shut without a bit of encouragement.

Review 62:Firstly, I was delighted that I could almost see the hotel from the station, otherwise I never would have found it! The staff were very friendly, chatty and excited that we were going to a wedding. The food and service was also excellent. When I had a light bulb missing, it was replaced as soon as I mentioned it. They were also flexible and helpful with check-out times. The bathroom was pretty fancy! Lots of character and felt nice and local.

Review 63:General decor is tired and needs urgent work. Wifi does not work in the family apartment. Noisy machine (pump or generatory) makes it difficult to sleep at night in the apartment. When checking in, staff at reception made us wait for more than 15 minutes while she made a personal (we could hear) phone call.

Review 64:Great location Generally the staff are courteous and helpful Good food
