Reviews for Best Western Lamphey Court Hotel and Spa

Review 1:Found room cold at night, heating off overnight as was on timer. Was provided with extra blankets.

Review 2:Friendly staff, amazing spa, beautiful location, room very clean and spacious.

Review 3:Unfortunately we were given a room with a three quarter bed, which led to a poor night's sleep, but we were moved to a different room the next day, which was much better.

Review 4:The spa facilities were great.

Review 5:The food was appalling, fried breakfast the worst I have ever had and as for the evening meal it was a disgrace. Have eaten there before and it was excellent.

Review 6:Gym and spa facilities

Review 7:Downstairs lounge and bar could do with updating. Service for buffet and breakfast could have been better, ran out of food, at breakfast couldn't be seated with our party.

Review 8:Good location. Nice hotel. Bedrooms very nice and comfortable.

Review 9:Very uncomfortable bed and feet were overhanging the end in a 'deluxe double'. Called before booking for temperature of pool as we had our 11 month old child with us and told it would be warm. Pool was freezing and could not be heated. Very disappointed

Review 10:Food was fantastic

Review 11:Expected more! Room cleanliness below standard and cheap mismatched cutlery in the dining room - not good enough for hotel of this standard. Also paying diner supplement for fish & chips - that's just not good in 2015!

Review 12:Pool, leisure facilities and location

Review 13:Had to ask for a heating boost as was cold first night. Could have done a lot more in terms of Xmas decorations. Would expect from a large house like this to be tastefully adorned. Other than the tree a bit sparse and garland only went up half the stairway. Would expect large fires to be lit in evening in lounge and bar.

Review 14:Situated perfectly for castle lovers and coastal path walkers. Deluxe room spacious. Good hearty Welsh breakfast

Review 15:Wi fi didn't work in our room but we were offered to move rooms so all good. No smoking shelter or obvious place you could smoke.

Review 16:On arriving at the hotel it is very impressive from the outside. Very clean in all areas including our room. Spa lovely. Very quiet so had a very peaceful stay.

Review 17:Very confusing pre-authorisation process to set up an account for the room. Conflicting messaging from staff when we checked in to when we checked out.

Review 18:Very nice food.

Review 19:We found the menu over priced and the food was Ok but nothing special. Breakfast was nice and the staff helpful.

Review 20:The staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Room was comfortable, warm and clean.

Review 21:Some outside lights out around the building at the weekend. They were dealing with it though.

Review 22:Massage with Kay an excellent service well worth the money

Review 23:Cleanliness of spa, very cold swimming pool, staff that could not speak English trying to serve dinner.

Review 24:Having spa on site, easy access to coastal walks, room separate from main hotel with dog

Review 25:Don't book rm7 unless you want a dark, smokey room, thin walls (hear rm6 talking), narrow double bed with a very very soft mattress and wifi that cuts out all the time Pool too cold for toddlers Spa treatment times during our stay all booked up before we arrived Staff did not ask if we enjoyed our stay on checking out

Review 26:Nice driveway approach to hotel Best steam room ever tried Did not try dinner here

Review 27:We made full use of the leisure facilities and enjoyed, however the pool was what can only could be described as freezing. A tip I would pass on to fellow residents is to make an effort to get up for breakfast a little earlier than 9.30, we made it for 9.30 am both mornings, child swimming is restricted so my son wanted to get a swim in first, however we must have missed the black pudding and tomato ration as both were missing from the "full Welsh" both mornings!! What did arrive tasted great.

Review 28:The hotel is well signposted and easy to find, we used a tom tom and it found the location easily. Greeted by a very friendly lady on reception. We had a studio apartment just across from the hotel, which suited us well, clean and well presented, the tea/coffee station was well stocked both days of our stay.

Review 29:Although I booked I didn't actually stay as I was told the hotel was full and then the following day I was told that my family could stay. Thus completely disgusted by the booking software used and the inconvenience caused.

Review 30:The guests underneath us banged our floor when we weren't making a noise late at night and rang reception so reception rang us to tell us to be quiet. Then at 4am we were woken suddenly by them banging loudly again. Not nice.

Review 31:The size of the family suite was great and the pool.

Review 32:Booked a family room but bed not made up for children, no sheets when I tried to make it up myself and could not contact the night porter to get us some.

Review 33:Clean and lovely location, good breakfast

Review 34:We booked a studio in the annexes, the bed was really small and uncomfortable. The bed was smaller than the headstand behind it, way too narrow for 2 adults.

Review 35:The leisure centre and fitness area are well equipped and the setting of the hotel is wonderful.

Review 36:Some of the staff were borderline rude and not friendly. Kids menu in dining room for evening meal was limited and needs additions such as spaghetti bolognaise.

Review 37:Ideal location for Tenby and Pembroke.good gym and pool.Family room is good but beds not comfy. Good breakfast choice.

Review 38:Quite a lot of the choices on the dinner and breakfast menu were not available.

Review 39:Surroundings were beautiful, most of the staff were young but very polite.

Review 40:1. We paid for a standard double but they gave us what they called a 'family studio' as we had a toddler. The room was in a separate outbuilding from the hotel, and about 50 meters walk from the main entrance of the hotel to the studio, which was part of a cottage separate from the main building. It was raining and cold and so we had to wear jackets and take umbrellas, a huge inconvenience, even just to go to the main hotel have breakfast! 2. The studio room had a small double so it was not comfortable sleeping arrangements for a family. The room was too small to add another bed. 3. The spa pool was very small and had very strict times for children which weren't made aware to us when we checked in, resulting in a v disappointed child when we turned up to the spa to find he wasn't allowed to swim. 4. They didn't give us enough towels and no complimentary toiletries the following day despite having used up all from previous day. 5. The room was right next to the front door of the cottage so we could hear banging every time someone go in or out of the cottage. 6. Felt more of a 3 star hotel than a 4 star hotel in terms of service and hospitality. 7. The staff had no idea of nearby tourist attractions when we asked them where we could visit locally.

Review 41:The location was very pretty, although it was quite difficult to find due to poor sign posting of the roads.

Review 42:Dinner rather disappointing - they did not know how to cook a steak but conservatory dining room was very nice.

Review 43:Lovely surrounding countryside - very quiet but not too far from roads. Very comfortable facilities and good to have the swimming pool, etc.

Review 44:Service overall poor, although some staff were clearly trying hard. Management of staff in kitchen is poor, as evidenced in time in took for meals to arrive from kitchen. Some waiting staff looked a little scruffy. Decor in corridors old- fashioned. Generally

Review 45:Lovely setting in peaceful environment

Review 46:Staff were inattentive at breakfast and we had to ask several times for basic things like sugar. Check in was confusing as to confirmation of entitlements and check out was a nightmare. Long queue, 7 people in queue, no details to hand and only one person on duty. At least 20 minutes to check out. Although staff were very friendly this was at the expense of efficiency.

Review 47:Very spacious, good bedrooms with storage and decent showers.

Review 48:On Tuesday morning I cut inside of my leg on a sharp spring on the mattress.reported to reception on Tuesday morning after breakfast nothing happened reported again on Wednesday and was sorted within the hour.

Review 49:Pool was OK .But could have been opened more for the children. We were grandparents with two grandchildren and had to get up early for them to use the pool

Review 50:Although the staff where plesent and attentive... They need to beorganised better so that all on duty in the diningrooms do not bus thesame tables at once... We ate twice in the main diningroom and bothnights had to ask to be left alone as every time a member of staffpassed by the asked how the meal was and could the get us anything... Iagree this is required but once during each course is enough from onestaff member not all on duty at the time... In summary... Staff doingwhat asked of but organisation required.

Review 51:The location.. Piece and quite

Review 52:Breakfast a bit chaotic at times, no napkins on table, black pudding "ran out" within 30 min of breakfast starting, pastries said to be in oven when not, scrambled egg poor but then which hotel does good scrambled eggs!??

Review 53:Spa facilities, location and helpful staff

Review 54:The only negative comment was the fact we didn't have open access to the pool area, times limited for children. The website doesn't clearly inform you of this and the children were very disappointed when we arrived at the hotel to be told they were not allowed in at that time due to private members though the pool area was empty.

Review 55:We loved the location and the hotel looked very grand, breakfast very good with a wide choice to choose from, eggs benedict was delicious. Room spacious and clean in the courtyard area, friendly staff and lots of fabulous magazines to get my fashion fix in the main house. Pool area very chic and a good range of treatments available in the spa.

Review 56:We paid £168 a night for a "deluxe double room " .In no way could you describe it as deluxe .The bed was hard ,the carpet and furnishings were decidedly shabby and tired. There wasn't a safe or refrigerator and the tea /coffees were very basic. The staff were run off their feet at breakfast and when asked for a lightly poached egg it arrived rock hard as on the first morning . We had to send the coffee back on the first morning as it was so strong and tasted of camp coffee not ground. The staff addressed my husband from my man to mate !

Review 57:We were very impressed with the sports facilities ,a beautiful swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi and steam room ,which we enjoyed. Also the views and the location

Review 58:On arrival for a 2 day birthday treat we found the room we had booked was occupied by another. Despite best efforts of receptionist she was unable to sort the problem. We waited an hour and a half to see the Manager who was not able to explain why this had happened.

Review 59:We didn't stay so are unable to comment further.

Review 60:Young staff in restaurant and bar trying hard but not trained to a professional standard and had no visible leadership. Unable to relax in hotel watching the chaos. Studio rooms need updating as bed and seattee extremely uncomfortable.

Review 61:Spa facilities

Review 62:The restaurant service was so slow, 2 hours for a meal was just too long!

Review 63:The Hotel setting is great, nice & quiet with a lovely spar attached - very relaxing.

Review 64:Evening meal not good value. Not aware on booking that there was a £25 limit on evening meal. The steak with a pepper sauce would be be this much. Not much choice on the menu. Celebrating our silver wedding anniversary, but not acknowledged despite putting these details on the online booking. No atmosphere at night, hen party in a separate room. Some staff not very friendly.

Review 65:We enjoyed the spa/pool.The room was very nice it h.ad everything we needed

Review 66:Reception staff could have been more friendly and welcoming I had to ask if I could prepay for the room.

Review 67:Location is good for the ferry and the house and grounds are ideal for weddings and walkers. The evening meal in the conservatory was very good.

Review 68:Staff were extremely helpful - but they were constantly under pressure to meet guests' needs as there weren't enough of them on duty

Review 69:Hotel is in a perfect setting and has good facilities including a spa/swimming pool

Review 70:The dining room was a shambles! Staff wandering around pushing in chairs when there were customers to be seated and orders to be taken.Asking them to do something was like you were inconveniencing them.

Review 71:The spa facility were excellent.

Review 72:Didn't eat at hotel due to premises having a 2* food hygiene score not acceptable for a 4 * hotel. Plus my price was slightly higher than booking.com quoted.

Review 73:Pool and spa area plus the grounds. Room was very big which was nice.

Review 74:Bed Cover (Duvet) seemed to s mall for the bed... when my wife turned on her side the bed duvet went with her !

Review 75:Location, Staff very friendly / helpful, quality of food and excellent Pool,Gym and massage.

Review 76:The only gripe was the cuisine could be upped a bit to suit the hotel but don't get me wrong it was still good!

Review 77:The location is fabulous and the hotel itself is one of the best we have stopped in the outlook is grand as well

Review 78:We thought that the breakfast staff struggled to cope with the number of people on a couple of mornings, although they did their best! It would perhaps make sense to have breakfast available in both dining rooms on the ground floor when the hotel is busy?

Review 79:We loved the pool and the family suites, and the location is great for visiting beaches in the surrounding area.

Review 80:Although the spa had been open for an hour and a half, the steam room was off and the sauna was too cold to use!

Review 81:Beautiful setting. The spa facilities would have been good if it was all working

Review 82:Having to move to a family room instead of separate rooms because of overbooking by booking.com! We had our grown up children with us and we found the family room cramped and with only one bathroom, not what we had anticipated.

Review 83:The food was excellent. The staff were all very friendly and polite.

Review 84:Waited 2 and a half hours for food. Shower in hotel room cold. Twin beds pushed together! Spa wasn't working ice cold pool, showers and jacuzz also freezing cold. Not enough room in restaurant in the night so sat in the cold conservatory for our evening valentines meal. People who had booked a table after us, we're seated and ordered first, no real system. Ordered drinks 3 times when seated nothing came, then when they did they were wrong. Told we might not be able to have the food we ordered at 9pm at 10pm as the chef had gone home! Bar was tiny not enough seats for all the guests and one person behind bar!

Review 85:Food was good

Review 86:Booking.com agreed price of £235.60. Hotel charged £243.00. Had to phone the hotel to get refund.

Review 87:Location was very peaceful and tranquil. Swimming pool, sauna and steam room were very nice.

Review 88:Having no mirror above the basin to shave, special dietary requirements for my daughter, which I made in advance were ignored. Central heating not on during the day when we returned early due to the weather, card key stopped working twice in two days.

Review 89:The setting, the surroundings and the spa

Review 90:dirty tablecloths, staff don't care about you, definitely not 4 stars for this hotel.very disappointed.don't even talk about prices/ against quality of accommodation.

Review 91:location.

Review 92:The dinning room was cold, the staff pretty much untrained, the food was 'average' but over priced as was the wine. The leisure centre pool was very very cold. Still waiting for an emailed bill and confirmation of refund - hold little hope that this will happen without serious intervention - a very unpleasant experience, not to say (given the service, value for money and facilities) a vastly over priced one.

Review 93:Di at breakfast, great person, full of good humour and energy.

Review 94:Being put in a dated outbuilding that was dark, draughty, had an uncomfortable sofa. Not happy with the price we were going to be charged for this excuse for a room therefore we didn't stay. We would not think of attempting to book this hotel again.

Review 95:Nothing, as we did not have the room we expected.

Review 96:Unable to book any treatments in spa and was told they were already booked. This turned out to mean they didn't have enough staff. VERY DISAPPOINTING

Review 97:Spa area was excellent.

Review 98:It felt like it needs new carpets, new curtains and smells of old grease. Really off putting when you walk in.

Review 99:Surrounding area, the old house had a great feel and the spa

Review 100:Breakfast service was slow, it always is. Only negative comment about an otherwise lovely stay

Review 101:The receptionist was helpful and warm, the room large and well equipped. We visit Lamphey mainly for it's location, and the spa. You feel as if you're in a period drama when driving up the drive. Love it

Review 102:Service in the bar and restaurant were very poor. We had empty glasses and full wallets. The staff didn't care

Review 103:Beautiful property beside amazing ruins.

Review 104:Breakfast was not the best, the waitress although very pleasant , she made so many mistakes with people's orders and kept forgetting things, delivering to wrong tables and even bringing the wrong order to our table twice.

Review 105:Receptionist was very helpful . Spa staff were excellent. Accommodation was lovely

Review 106:(1) Slow service during first evening meal - over 45 minutes wait between 1st and 2nd courses, even after querying the delay twice. (2) Booking system and confirmation not clear. Xmas package straightforward but booking 2 extra nights @ £100 per night confusing as advised by phone that they were b&b and "evening meal" which apparently was not the case. Otherwise a very pleasant stay.

Review 107:The staff were friendly and polite. The rooms were very good and comfortable and we would be very happy to return.

Review 108:Organization and service collapsed under the weight of Chrismas Eve and recovered only slowly.

Review 109:Staff willingness to please. Spacious and comfortable room with enormous bathroom. The food and service on the three days before Christmas was excellent, and the breakfast throughout the stay. Other points: the Spa and the bubbly served to say sorry.

Review 110:My wife found the bed too hard. One of the staff were a bit abrasive and another became flustered under pressure.

Review 111:House, setting, pool. Food good. Quiet.

Review 112:ceilings in ground floor "studios" creak heavily with the movement of 1st floor occupants

Review 113:good countryside location good access to Pembroke & castle very nice spa

Review 114:The bed was a bit firm for my liking but but the second night I had got used to it

Review 115:This was our third visit and we found the friendliness of the staff and the food excellent. We had no criticism to make and we would definitely visit again. The staff are very attentive both at reception and in the restaurant and the spa. The hotel is in a lovely spot, very calm and peaceful and beautiful grounds.

Review 116:Room was poor in decor and cleanliness,if staying more than one night we would have asked to be moved.lacking management

Review 117:The spa is excellent ,the staff while very friendly and welcoming lack management and experience.the accom needs updating to come up to the standard of quality you get from the spa facility, the location is excellent but this hotel needs updating and good management to make it deserving of its 4 stars.

Review 118:Attitude of staff particularly older waitress at breakfast, ordered tea never arrived so had to ask again. Had to wait 2 hours to be checked in. No remote control in room for tv

Review 119:Spa / pool

Review 120:The staff were not very sociable with the exception of one lady working in the restaurant. We didn't receive WiFi that was good enough. We did not receive any welcome coming into reception. The entrance was only one way. The options given for the one time we had dinner in the evening were not really good enough. Also for the price that we had to pay, the food that we got was not good at all. Again the food was too overpriced for food that wasn't particularly appetising. Another thing we didn't like is that was we could smell the food being made from the kitchen into our bathroom. The bathroom doors also do not lock which was quite annoying. Too conclude, for the price that we paid, overall the hotel was not good enough.

Review 121:Gym facilities were quite nice. WiFi was adequate but not good enough, we had to stay in one spot in our hotel room to receive any signal.

Review 122:Very poor wifi. Hen party noise at 2am when I needed to be up at 4am for ironman. Rooms not clean and shabby.

Review 123:Location. Food At breakfast lunch and diner. Friendly staff at reception.

Review 124:Dining room and staff below standard. Menu not good - no 'Light Bites' Canned fruit only - grapefruit and prunes at breakfast. Decorations tired.

Review 125:Very little

Review 126:The rest of the over priced accommodation, was in need of renovation. Especially the bathroom in the court yard accommodation. Poor breakfast! Flies in the room! Water pressure very low for a shower 10 min wait for it to heat up and then no pressure! Establishment needs to be updated!

Review 127:The spa, but needed a deep clean!

Review 128:The mattress on the big bed was a little thin (but still managed a decent-ish sleep on it). The senior (male) staff on the bar and in the restaurant were both very serious, verging on the point of being rude and unpleasant. They were quite professional in their roles but an occasional smile or some eye contact wouldn't have gone amiss. Guests at a wedding on one of the evenings we stayed were asked to smoke outside the hotel. Fair enough, but they all gathered on the steps at the front entrance....phew! It was like walking through a fog when we came back to the building after an evening out, and the litter, cigarette ends and empty glasses left all over the place really didn't look good, especially for the other guests paying good money to stay at the hotel. Perhaps Best Western could give some consideration to finding an alternative smoking area away from the main entrance?

Review 129:Lovely building in a peaceful setting (apart from the noisy, shouty sheep in the adjacent fields, perhaps....so many sheep!) Pool/spa/gym area is great with very friendly staff and good facilities. Good choice at breakfast. Nice spacious room. Efficient and friendly reception staff.

Review 130:Closely followed by the sound of the kitchen staff starting breakfast and a generator sound below our room ! We were moved to a quieter room for the next night where the toilet was broken!

Review 131:Not much!

Review 132:The staff were friendly and eager to help. Lovely room with plenty of seating and double aspect windows. Excellent facilities although we didn't use the spa or pool. We were specially grateful for the heating being on in our room on a very cold night. Good breakfast - freshly cooked to order. Local products at breakfast nice touch. Lovely evening meal with good steak and exceptional hake.

Review 133:We liked the position of the hotel, located in the countryside and the standard and quality of the bedrooms. The swimming pool/spa was very clean Also the breakfast was very yummy!!

Review 134:We booked in at 4.45pm and asked about using the pool .We were told about their leisure centre and how to use the locker room. We changed and headed down to the pool , to be told that kids were not allowed after 5pm .No issue with this but we should have been told at check in and not after we had changed .

Review 135:The hotel looks a little "tired" in general. Areas inside the pool required a good clean. Both entrances to tennis courts were a little overgrown. Evening meal was okay, but a little overpriced. Room was nice, but had to use a block of wood to hold window open!! With a little more updating and TLC, this place could be glorious.

Review 136:Lovely location, and nice to have swimming pool and tennis courts available on site. Staff all friendly and helpful.

Review 137:Timings for children to swim were not great - just 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. We were too late to swim on arrival and the respective open times meant we had to have breakfast first and then swim as there wasn't enough time to swim first. The jacuzzi was not working when we were there which was a shame as I was particularly looking forward to using it.

Review 138:Lovely large room and very attractive hotel buildings and grounds. We had a studio room which had a separate bedroom off the side for the children. Food quality and service was good and the food tasted very fresh. Swimming pool was a good size and temperature. The hotel is ideally located for visiting Pembroke and the area around.

Review 139:I stayed in a double deluxe room, Room very dated and basic, could have done with a refrigerator, better TV facilities TV does not pick up many channels, you have to book for dinner, Menu very limited, did not change during my stay service can be very slow, i had to wait over 45 minutes for my main meal one evening and then forgot to offer dessert

Review 140:This was a great location, staff was very friendly and helpful, clean room and surroundings areas, breakfast good with great friendly service, pool and spa good

Review 141:We ate an evening meal at the hotel resturant & that really let the hotel down. The menu described 'hand cut' chips & 'homemade' burger, this was definitely not the case! My partner likened his burger to that you get at a burger van. I thought I'd played it safe with fish & chips, but the fish was bland & lacked taste. The breakfast the following day how ever was really good! Think they need to ask the morning chef to also work the evening meals!

Review 142:Really enjoyed my stay. Lamphey court is set in a beautiful location. Unfortunately the jacuzzi was closed during our stay, but getting to use the pool, sauna & steam room made out stay extra special.

Review 143:No sleep after 5.30am due to jumping kids in room above and noisy shower next door.

Review 144:Breakfast, spa, hotel lounge and staff were all lovely and setting was idyllic.

Review 145:'Deluxe' suite was dirty, stained, mouldy around door, windows and in bathroom - shower head was disgustingly dirty and mouldy. As a result we didn't use the shower or bath but went to the spa to shower. Old fashioned decor which was tired and tatty. Broken wardrobe. Curtains hanging off rails. Handle broken off drawer. Carpet poorly patched up in doorway. Peeling paintwork. Very poor standard, no quality and they wanted to charge us £169!! Our complaints were noted and the cost reduced to £119 for the night which was still far too expensive for this standard of room.

Review 146:Beautiful setting. Good breakfast Main hotel and spa facility were comfortable

The Fine Print

Disabled Facilities:There is one room with facilities for disabled guests, as well as ground floor rooms and studio apartments. There is an additional charge of GBP 10 per night for dogs staying.
