Reviews for Bistro Prego

Review 1:My room was in the top of the building and was cold due to the weather and the radiator couldn't really cope. Not a big deal as I swiped the duvet of the other bed and all was fine.

Review 2:Great location for my needs, easy parking at rear of building, great breakfast and very helpful staff.

Review 3:This is the second time we've stayed here it's in an ideal location for town centre . We will be staying here again a few times next year as long as we can get booked in.

Review 4:The room was clean & cosy although if I could recommend any improvements it would be a refurb in the bathroom.

Review 5:Excellent location in the middle of Monmouth town and very quiet. Lovely Bistro by night & fab breakfast in the morning.

Review 6:Unhappy that the only way to escape in the event of a fire seems to be down all the stairs. It's one of the first things I check on arrival, for peace of mind.

Review 7:Pleasant staff, good central location and a well cooked breakfast

Review 8:Rather a tortuous route to top floor rooms, with lots of steep stairs.

Review 9:Very friendly staff. Excellent dinner and breakfast. In pedestrian street right in the centre, with large public car park at the back.

Review 10:My second stay here. A great bargain given that they produce a wonderful 'full-Welsh breakfast' in the price. Good warm rooms with en-suite facilities. I had an evening meal here of rump of Welsh lamb with celeriac mash and spinach followed by crème-brulee with pistachio nuts.....divine.

Review 11:The room was vry average and the bathroom quite poor. One of the single beds was even pushed up against a radiator

Review 12:Great restaurant - we had a fantastic dinner and then breakfast the next day

Review 13:N/A

Review 14:The staff were really friendly, and the facilities were perfect for my overnight stay. Breakfast was also delicious -I'd go again just for the food!!

Review 15:Lots of stairs, so tricky to manage with a large bag. At night the entrance is at the back down a dark laneway, so not great if you are on your own

Review 16:Twin room was at the back and was fine. Breakfast was great, restaurant looked good for dinner too! Great location, right in the centre of Monmouth

Review 17:Shame that the bathroom did not have a window but it all worked and there was lots of hot water

Review 18:Friendly staff in a good central location with great food.

Review 19:room a bit spartan. Window didn't close properly, and cupboard a bit basic. Needs a non-slip mat in the shower.

Review 20:Right in the middle of town. Staff extremely friendly and willing. Given breakfast before the official time without any grumbles.

Review 21:Comfortable room with good en-suite. Good views from room 7. Breakfast excellent. Staff accommodating and friendly. Close to this fascinating town. The restaurant has some very good dishes.

Review 22:The rooms are quite small. The toilet seat was incredibly loose when sat on, and the hot water tap on the bath almost came out of its fitting when I turned it on. (I stayed in room 7, overlooking the car park).

Review 23:The bistro is very centrally located in Monmouth. It is very easy to park. The rooms are quiet. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Review 24:My booking wasn't there at reception( booked through booking.com) and when they found it, was at higher price than my booking. But they honoured the lower price.

Review 25:Location Staff - excellent , very helpful. Food in restaurant fantastic.

Review 26:The Bistro is on a pedestrianised street. No mention of car park (£), loading bay or rear access at rear of Bistro on the website which would have saved lugging the luggage down the street . Bed was very firm and unyielding.

Review 27:The breakfast was excellent. A good sized bathroom.

Review 28:Good location and very centaryean. Room was basic but comfortable and complimentary tea and coffee was a bonus. The breakfast was lovely. Very good value for money and we would return

Review 29:Can't think of anything !

Review 30:Fantastic friendly staff. Wonderful food. Had dinner as well as breakfast and it was first rate. Great location. Would recommend to anyone

Review 31:They were short staffed as a result the breakfasts were dreadful. I don't think I will ever be able to eat scrambled egg again.

Review 32:Terrific location. My room was kept spotlessly clean and the housekeeper found my precious earring!

Review 33:it's in a pedestrianised area so is difficult to approach with cases. The bedroom on the third floor had steep stairs and no lift - this hotel would not be suitable for anyone with even relatively minor mobility issues.

Review 34:The location, right in the centre of town. The staff were very friendly ad helpful.

Review 35:Nothing

Review 36:Historic location, excellent parking, fantastic staff, wonderful meal and 5 star breakfast. The owner and staff couldn't have been more helpful.

Review 37:Narrow stairs up to top floor. Remote activation of light not working for night time stairs. Bedrooms basic but clean. Bathrooms need an update. Parking can be an issue.

Review 38:Food in bistro excellent. Location reasonable.

Review 39:Narrow hallways and numerous stairs. Loud industrial fan outside near our window which came on at 0700hrs.

Review 40:Location, comfortable bed, cleanliness. Staff supplied a fan in our room for air movement and cooling. Breakfast menu options.

Review 41:Music playing until 12. Not sure if was next door or downstairs but loud enough to disturb if trying to sleep. Some info on where to park as bistro is on a pedestrian road which was not mentioned. Big carpark behind but no-one told me in advance and I had asked about this by email.

Review 42:Breakfast was excellent. Staff very friendly. Room very nice. Would definitely stay again.

Review 43:Plumbing in bathroom was very poor as due to a problem with the shower above the bath, it had been taken out and not replaced. The basin didn't hold water as the plug needed replacing, plus the light above the basin didn't work either.

Review 44:Good location in a lovely town

Review 45:Had to mark down slightly as we couldn't eat there as a private function was booked and they didnt have a table for 2 available, real shame, so cant comment on the food, but looked very good indeed

Review 46:Comfortable room, very friendly staff, ideal location for Monmouth. feels very Mediterranean around the lanes.

Review 47:The bathroom was ok but does need some modernisation and maybe just a shower rather than a bath would provide more room! But for a very good price it was fine!

Review 48:Bistro Prego is on a pedestrianised street with a free car park right behind it! The restaurant is fantastic - really good food and served a delicious breakfast each morning too! Our twin room was not large but plenty of room for two of us with plenty of storage space!

Review 49:great staff, very comfortable bed with nice duvet and pillows. Basic facilities but very good value for money with lovely choice of cooked breakfast included.

Review 50:Parking is in a convenient place but as its a town car park its a bit costly.

Review 51:Friendly and helpful. Excellent breakfast and importantly a very comfy bed.

Review 52:The room was small and noisy due to a large car park out the back where people dispose of bottles late at night. Lots of activity from deliveries. The bathroom was in need of updating.

Review 53:The staff were really friendly and professional. A wonderful breakfast!

Review 54:Good restaurant with rooms and also large pay and display car park immediately behind so actually v accessible for luggage once you've found the far end of the car park ! Breakfast excellent

Review 55:Small detail in the rooms that could easily be taken care of. eg hotel manual/guide printing blurred, toilet seat too thick to stay up, key fobs so large they made locking and uocking doors difficult.

Review 56:The restaurant standard breakfast.

Review 57:Had 5 flight of stairs to get to room. They were very steep and no one around to help with bags. Shower base very slippy. Water took ages to go down.

Review 58:Great location. Parking is out back. Breakfast very nice. Staff friendly

Review 59:Nothing to dislike

Review 60:The food at the bistro is fantastic. We had a meal on Sunday evening and breakfast the following day and the quality of food and presentation were superb.

Review 61:We were in a family room and the single bed mattress was really uncomfortable and not suitable for a good nights sleep - it need replacing. There was a heavy chair in front of the wardrobe so you would not be able to hang up your coat without moving it first. This could be solved by placing coat hooks on the back of the door.

Review 62:Food good, Staff welcoming. Excellent central position

Review 63:Our room was up several flights of stairs including passing through an area undergoing redecoration. Only a family room available when we booked (ie extra bed) which made the room feel a bit cramped. No coat hangers!

Review 64:Lovely dinner & breakfast, friendly helpful staff, room clean comfortable & well equipped.

Review 65:No TV remote control, but not really a problem as I had an early night

Review 66:Right on the long distance path, staff thoughtfully offered continental, early starter Breakfast.

Review 67:Too much wine, over exuberance and I couldn't eat my Welsh breakfast, but I will be back.

Review 68:Clean sharp lines, good service and the mussels of course, not to mention my wife's rib eye.

Review 69:Lots of stairs to climb to the top floor. Could do with a bit of updating, but nothing that would spoil a stay

Review 70:Location was excellent, and despite first impressions, the shower was powerful and the bed comfy. The breakfast options were flexible, so we were able to have whatever we wanted. It was a lovely quiet room too.

Review 71:Breakfast starts at 8.30am, as had to be away early would have liked to be able to have breakfast a little earlier, though the chef was very kind and did open up for me at 8.10am

Review 72:Staff were really helpful, food in restaurant excellent, lovely quiet location

Review 73:Room would benefit from an update. Cooked breakfast wasn't served until 8.30 too late for most i would imagine , a continental breakfast was laid out for us to help ourselves.

Review 74:Good location and very good facilities.Evening meal was the highlight with very friendly staff. Although no on site parking we were able to park in the public car park less than 30m from the resteraunt

Review 75:Very tired room - basic, and no chair Warning: if you want to eat on a Saturday evening, book well in advance; they don't prompt hotel guests to do this.

Review 76:Low price Excellent food in restaurant Friendly, efficient manager Good location in heart of attractive town, with easy parking right behind

Review 77:We found our room comfortable but rather dated. Likewise the shower over the bath was outdated. We had several flights of stairs to climb which we had not been warned about and this would have been a problem if we had any hip/leg problems.

Review 78:We found the accommodation comfortable but rather dated. The restaurant was attractive and impeccably clean and the food delicious and varied. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 79:Centrally located, just off Church Street in Monmouth. Easy parking behind the guest house/restaurant. Had a room at the back of the building overlooking the car park. Imagine it could be noisy late at night as customers leave the downstairs restaurant, but not our experience. Staff friendly and keen to please.

Review 80:Front rooms over look small pedestrian street with shops, which can result in a little noise during out of hours on occasions Our bathroom shower was in need of a deep clean around the 'edges'

Review 81:Décor Room facilities Central location Public car park very close to the rear of property

Review 82:We arrived too late to have evening meal

Review 83:Great location and facilities, staff were very friendly and accommodating. Lovely breakfast. Had a lovely weekend and would definitely return and recommend to other travellers.

Review 84:the bathrooms need some TLC but they are fine

Review 85:the location was spot on. breakfast and service top rate. good beds and fine quality of sleep. lots of hot water. good bath

Review 86:Passage ways to rooms a little Dated. We were unable to find the lounge listed on the fire leaflet

Review 87:Accommodation very comfortable Food excellent.

Review 88:No fruit or yogurt option available at breakfast.

Review 89:We were given a large room on the top floor. It was clean and comfortable and quieter being that high up. It was good value for money and included a decent breakfast.

Review 90:Unfortunately our room on the top floor was quite close to the extract fan from the kitchen. I would ask for a different room but would still come again.

Review 91:nice twin room, good value for money, the staff were helpful and friendly. The restaurant on the ground floor is really excellent.

Review 92:Nice breakfast also offer Italian food during the dinner time. Stuffs are very friendly. The facility includes a hairdryer with turn out to be very useful as I was soaking wet because the heavy rain that day.

Review 93:Location was excellent, staff were friendly, the bed was comfortable and the breakfast options were good. I had poached eggs on toast, and cereal and everything was very well cooked.

Review 94:What's not to like. Room, evening meal, breakfast all as good as a 5 star hotel at a bargain price. Would not look at alternatives if staying in that area again.

Review 95:Nothing to not like .... Except the weather, in the UK you never know what you will get!!

Review 96:For the price and comfort of room it was good value. The location was excellent, right in the heart of Monmouth. You could walk around easily and find everything - all the little tourist attractions etc. the staff were friendly and the breakfast was really good.

Review 97:The fact that I was there on business and my partner wasn't there to enjoy it with me!

Review 98:Room very comfortable. Restaurant excellent atmosphere and great menu. I am celiac and they catered for all my food issues brilliantly.

Review 99:It was noisy being on the Main Street of the town, and some of other guest a little noisy when coming and going. Down side with our age was being on top floor.

Review 100:It was clean and a lovely room all we needed. We had a lovely breakfast also. Set us up for our journey home.

Review 101:We arrived very late and with bikes. The staff were soooo helpful. We were fed the most delicious pasta and our bikes taken from us and stored securely. Would love to go back on a more leisurely schedule.

Review 102:I woke up several times due to the heat, I'm sure a summer quilt would of helped but you can't really complain on having a good quality quilt.

Review 103:Nice location, easy access to all the important things needed whilst on a short term work related stay.

Review 104:The staff were all so helpful and thoughtful. Particularly appreciated as a solo traveller in an unknown town. I felt very welcome and would have enjoyed a longer stay!

Review 105:Weather

Review 106:Ideal location in centre of Monmouth, rooms are adequate for overnight or even longer stay. Food at evening was wonderful with plenty of choice from local sources and breakfast was hearty too.

Review 107:Nothing, it was excellent.

Review 108:Great location, lovely quiet room (with a shower & bath), very tasty breakfast and helpful and friendly staff. The restaurant below the accommodation looked very good and popular. Car parking to the rear included free secure parking for motorbikes (metal hoops to padlock on to). Very good value.

Review 109:Re-making bed because sheet fitted so badly. Soft mattress. Wardrobe, carpets and bathroom looked worn out.

Review 110:Central location. Nice, but not outstanding breakfast.

Review 111:The only tiny criticism we have is that the bathroom could do with re grouting... other than that it's fantastic!

Review 112:Our room was very spacious and comfortable. It was an extremely hot night but the electric fan provided helped alot! The shower was amazing and the room was very well equipped. Although there was not much of a view, it was a very light and quiet room that felt very private. We were late home and it was great to be able to just let ourselves in. Our breakfast was delicious and there was a huge selection all included in the price. We only saw one member of staff during our stay and she appeared to do everything! But all credit to her as she was very charming and efficient. Thouroughly enjoyable stay.

Review 113:Room would benefit from say a tub chair or similar (there is space for one) and some wall mounted coat hooks.

Review 114:Friendly staff. Well located property. Very good food.

Review 115:Bathroom looking tired but clean.

Review 116:Breakfast was excellent. Very clean facilities Wi-fi Fan provided in bedroom which was essential as it had been a very hot day. Tea,Coffee and water provided in the room.

Review 117:Restaurant service was slow. Room on 3rd floor - no lift. Hot weather meant we had to have bedroom windows open, but room is above a shopping street, and after being awoken by a nearby burglar alarm in the night, we were disturbed again at 6am by a window cleaner shooting up jets of water at the windows, then by the roar of the street-cleaning machine, a van reversing noisily, loud voices and banging as a shopkeeper set out his goods on the pavement. Not a restful stay.

Review 118:Convenience of location. Food was good.

Review 119:Noisy council truck emptying big bins just outside our room at 6 am (not Bistro Prego's fault!). Our room window was open because of the hot weather.

Review 120:Great Location in the centre of Monmouth. Cheap public car park very close (free at night) . Great dinner, very good value. Excellent breakfast. Overall, very good value

Review 121:Rear entrance a bit shabby but no need to use this unless arriving back very late.

Review 127:The staff could not be more helpful or friendly. The dinner was excellent and good value.

Review 128:Excellent breakfast Good location in centre of town backing onto public carpark (50p per hour for first 4 hours; £8 for all day)

Review 129:bed and room was very poor and cheap

Review 130:food was great
