Reviews for The Smugglers Inn
Review 1:The accommodations were small, especially the bathroom. The bath towels were not very soft.
Review 2:We really enjoyed the restaurant and the location. The staff was friendly and accommodated our busy schedule. Dinner was delicious and breakfast was wonderful. We loved the family feel to The Smugglers Inn.
Review 3:If you are looking for a great location to stay and enjoy an excellent seafood dinner (by far the best in 2 weeks in Ireland) in a nice winter-garden close to the beach this is it. Warm welcome by friendly staff and excellent service during the stay. Rooms are basic, quite large and clean. The house has some sort of amiable patina. Staying there in mid October with almost no other guests and waked by morning sun after a great sunset with dinner was just amazing. Might be busy during summer because of the wonderful beach
Review 4:The outer building looked a little rundown.
Review 5:The staff was helpful and upgraded us to a larger room. The hotel is directly on the bay with direct access to the water and sunsets. The restaurant, though pricey, was excellent ( ours was 75 euro). We went to the beach afterwards and looked at the stars. The hotel is in the Kerry Dark Sky Reserve which means you can see more stars!!! The bed was comfortable and the room was clean.
Review 6:after a long tripwe went to bed about 10.30.we were kept awake till past 12 by pots and pans fromthe kitchen. very noisey washing up.woken again inthe morning with them preparing breakfast. Tiny wash room we did not use the shower.Small tv, I did find the tv room but this room felt chilly to sit in.We were so disapointed that we left after one night. I was charged 90 euros for 1 night. We drove up to Balykisteen hotel and stayed an extra 2 nights and were only charged 79 euros / night.I dont know how the smugglers can be charging the same sort of prices when the facilities are no where near as good as Balykisteen. Very disapointed spoilt what should have been a relaxing weekend.Wont be recomending this one.
Review 7:location
Review 8:The location, although exposed, was lovely and having such a good restaurant on the premises was also a bonus. Such wildness would not be everybody's choice however.
Review 9:Noisy neighbours talking loudly could be heard late into the night.
Review 10:The scenic location was fantastic. Most of the staff were wonderful and stepped out of their way for us. The room was comfortable and roomy.
Review 11:Breakfast not served before 8am. After some discussion/negotiation brought forward to 7.45am. Which wasn't early enough for a golf tee time nearby. To be fair a cold breakfast was laid out. Need to try harder for golf customers. Bathroom was tired, low shower pressure and bed was soft/worn out. Had to exit via fire escape route at 7.45am as place was still locked up.
Review 12:Dinner was good although on the expensive side.
Review 13:We had a lovely stay. Our room was very nice. lovely big clean bathroom, with a fab shower. The room had the added bonus of a little sun room with stunning views.
Review 14:The ensuite in room 9 is tiny, difficult to get into shower...I am not a big person.
Review 15:The location on the beach, the restaurant food is superb. Staff very friendly. My fav part to this place is that it's dog friendly.
Review 16:Might be a little bit over-priced, but we nevertheless enjoed our stay very much.
Review 17:The Smuggler's Inn is a great Accomodation perfectly located just next to the beautiful sea and with comfortable beds in the nicely furnished bedrooms. The restaurant is impressingly good and offers some great seafood. Breakfast was delicious as well. The lady at the reception was very kind and friendly and tried to help wherever she could. Definitely recommended.
Review 18:Service a bit slow
Review 19:Everything, not 5 star but a dream location best view of the ocean, literally metres from th Atlantic Ocean, restaurant awesome fine ding food, service was a bit hectic though maybe short staffed.
Review 20:Bedrooms, wifi & TV need upgrading but quality of the food more than compensates
Review 21:Food, food, food!! Lovely staff (except the breakfast waitress who lacked any warmth). Location was extremely beautiful overlooking the Atlantic.
Review 22:Rooms are old and could use updating. Strong smell of fried food in our room as we were above the kitchen.
Review 23:cant beat the location, right on the ocean next to a beautiful beach.
Review 24:Maybe could review price of evening menu as lots of good competition in Waterville Village on dining out.
Review 25:The Staff, located 100yds from the beach, the breakfast and the view waking up in the morning.
Review 26:The restaurant was excellent. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful with local tips. The location,Directly across from the Waterville CC gates! Superb views from room looking at the ocean.
Review 27:Only bad thing was the sound of the fan from the kitchen at night
Review 28:Had a nice sea view from the bed room, great value, didn't have dinner there but breakfast was nice .
Review 29:The room was a superior double, but no sea view, no wifi, no soap just dispensers, broken lights and lose tiles in bathroom.
Review 30:The scenery around the hotel was amazing.
Review 31:Resident in room 4 must have been in a deep sleep as his/her phone alarm went off at12.30pm and continued bleeping for quite a while.Eventually plucked up the courage to knock the door!
Review 32:Good breakfast.
Review 33:Bit disappointed that all you could get on the TV was Irish. Nowadays most hotels and BnB's of this calibre do have TV's which have international programmes, eg BBC World News.
Review 34:We liked the location; we loved the food;the staff were excellent and very helpful.
Review 35:nothing negative - a really great place to relax and enjoy the view...
Review 36:Beautiful location Excellent food Friendly service ..... all at a reasonable price
Review 37:The rain!
Review 38:Is Smuggler's Inn a B&B with a 5 star restaurant or a 5 star restaurant that happens to have a B&B attached? Either way it doesn't matter. The entire staff made us feel so welcome, the room was fabulous - we had the only room with the enclosed porch so we could look out at the ocean. The restaurant is among the top 5 restaurants I've ever had the pleasure of dining. We came for the stargazing and for a short while the skies cleared and the view was amazing.
Review 39:Room 5 is just above the kitchen extractor fumes and noise from kitchen was coming in to the room, also the cold tap on the sink very difficult to turn and only a trickle of water comes out.The 1st night there the single bed had no mattress cover on.Tiles on bathroom floor lifting in places.
Review 40:The food was delicious, view amazing.
Review 41:Very overpriced rooms, I am not sure if the bed was clean, door lock was broken and on a busy evening the restaurant is loud until late. Little bit smelly.
Review 42:Great scenery from the hotel and nice walks along the beach.
Review 43:Musty smell Small flying insects in the bedroom Bathroom door was warped and did not close Walk through bar to get to cluttered reception was off putting
Review 44:Beautiful location
Review 45:much smaller than i expected more b&b but not b&b prices quite expensive. long walk to town especially considering irish weather and dont expect to get a late drink at bar as they all leave after restaurant service is finished.

Review 110:Breakfast stopped at 10am
Review 111:Great friendly staff.. love my sea view location .
Review 112:The location the food and the staff
Review 113:Tired bedroom, cracked tiles on bathroom floor, small bathroom with tiny shower, taps hard to turn, shower screen placed so you have to be in the shower to reach taps. ie just tired Cooking smell from kitchen and noise from kitchen exhaust fan Overpriced
Review 114:Staff,location, restaurant
Review 115:No real negatives at all.
Review 116:Fresh cooked breakfast as opposed to the self service buffet so common nowadays. Peaceful location, just a short hop from Waterville, right by the sea.
Review 117:The beds were not very comfortable and the rooms could use updating. Our bathroom was decidedly cramped (in a twin room on the second floor).
Review 118:With a location on a picturesque point with 180 degree coastal views, it's hard to beat. If golf at Waterville is your aim, it's just a walk across the road. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food, though not what I would call excellent, was very good and the dining room views are inspirationally open.
Review 119:Owner remembered us from several years ago and gave us a free room upgrade. The food is absolutely superb. All staff were very cheerful, friendly and welcoming.
Review 120:A must for any golfer playing Waterville Golf Club.... Excellent dining and appropriate accommodation for the price.... The staff are great.... many thanks to Brenda & Sarah & the other 2 girls whose names I've unfortunately forgotten (getting old)... Best regards, Colin & Peter, Germany
Review 121:There was nothing we didn't like
Review 122:I loved everything about our stay in the Smugglers. Staff couldn't be nicer. Food delicous.Views to die for. What more could you ask for. Will be back soon.
Review 123:Nothing of any note (perhaps a box of tissues in the room)
Review 124:Following two days at a gourmet location, it seemed unlikely that the Smugglers Inn would reach the same standard but the restaurant was excellent and without being finicky. Fresh lobster selected from a tank was prepared to perfection as were all the other offerings we sampled from the menu. The location is great- virtually alone next to the water- which adds to the pleasure of dining. Highly recommended.
Review 125:The bathroom was tiny and we had to lean over the toilet to get to the towels. It would be more convenient to have a hook beside the sink for the hand towel.
Review 126:Lovely cosy hotel, wonderful friendly, efficient and helpful staff. Food was excellent. Stunning views of the sea and coastline from the bedroom window.
