Reviews for The Coach House
Review 1:We were excellently looked after by Richard - who was very sympathetic as we were staying for a funeral. He couldn't have been kinder. I was also treated to gluten free sausages as part of a yummy breakfast.
Review 2:Breakfast - good portions but somewhat overcooked.
Review 3:room very clean and comfortable. Location - Good. Staff - couldn't be better - extremely friendly and helpful.
Review 4:Rads in room could have been warmer heating seemed to go off early
Review 5:Very helpful and breakfast was very good indeed done everything to make my two days as best as possible
Review 6:Only thing that was a pain was trying to find a parking space near to the hotel. However, the cost was paid for by the hotel.
Review 7:Hotel was ideally located in the middle of the town. The owner's son was very helpful and gave me a refund for the cost of parking.
Review 8:The hotel could do with a touch of updating but for £60 the price is more than fair.
Review 9:The staff at this hotel were outstanding, the breakfast was one of the best I have ever had in a hotel.
Review 10:It's a minor grouch but our room overlooked the back yard of the Kings Arms across the street, a hotel/pub noted for its noisiness. Between midnight and two in the morning we heard staff talking as they cleared up there and even what sounded like taking deliveries.
Review 11:The variety of choice for breakfast and prompt service. The outstanding informativeness and friendliness of the proprietor's father.
Review 12:Friendly and welcoming host who made us feel that nothing was too much trouble. Excellent location for Monmouth and surrounding countryside. We only stayed for one night but would certainly return for a longer visit.
Review 13:Better cleaning generally and pillow covers but bathroom good
Review 14:Excellent location for our needs and superb service with owner and staff going that extra mile
Review 15:Nothing
Review 16:Proprietors were vey helpful in getting round problems caused by roadworks outside the hotel. Breakfast was excellent. Good ingredients and well cooked.
Review 17:Before arrival Richard phoned to check we could find it ok and he met us at the car park. He was very friendly and helpful and told us some useful information about Monmouth. The following morning breakfast was served and it was lovely.
Review 18:No parking available on property. Paid parking lot about 5 min walk.
Review 19:The owners were really nice and welcoming. It's an older place, but clean and great value for the money.
Review 20:The room cleanliness was pverall poor. Bedding, towels and bathroom (with one exception) were clean. But there was mould on the shower controls that should not have been there (I could scratch it off with my finger). The mirrors were dirty (dusty and smeared). The TV remote control was dirty. The outlook on to the road was rather noisy.
Review 21:A very warm welcome and friendly, helpful owners. The breakfast was pretty good. A comfortable bed and good wifi. A central location in Monmouth.
Review 22:No parking facilities but owner did pay for us to park in public car park.
Review 23:Chap running it was very friendly plus his mother. Both very helpful. Information folder available in rooms about local eating houses and pubs.
Review 24:A bit worried about the hygiene rating displayed at the time but the breakfast was good!
Review 25:Very helpful staff! Even paid the car park fee as we had no change!
Review 26:Location was bad for parking we had to park on a car park a few hundred yards away the stairs outside were an hard to climb for my wife who had hip problem
Review 27:Well run clean good foodL
Review 28:Nothing.
Review 29:The owner/staff could not have been more helpful! Even going the extra mile of walking with us to the church so that we didn't get lost (we were going to a wedding and were running a little late). Room was immaculately clean, and breakfast was lovely.
Review 30:Hosts absolutely perfect! Greeted by son who took us to the parking spot and walked back with us. We were lucky to find a free space not too far, you may need to pay if unlucky but not a big deal. He was very helpful in booking us a taxi to Treowen house for a wedding. Unfortunately we didn't make it back as our taxi wouldn't pick us up passed 1am so ended up coming back to hotel around 8am! But the room was lovely, spacious. Comfy bed and good facilities. Great breakfast and a bacon sandwich made to take back to the room for partner. Would love to stay again. We somehow brought your TV remote home sorry! Do plan to send it back.
Review 31:Very difficult to open window; room was a little tired, iron stain on carpet. Parking is some distance from the accommodation.
Review 32:The position in the town is excellent and the staff very friendly and welcoming.
Review 33:Location not good! Opposite very noisy pub. Kept awake quite late then woken early by chairs and tables being dragged across the floor and general noise from early morning staff! Whole place was a bit rough around the edges and could do with some finishing touches.
Review 34:Breakfast!
Review 35:Only a few small niggles about bathroom easily sorted out.
Review 36:Friendly and very helpful hosts. Very nice breakfast. Generally clean and with good standard of facilities.
Review 37:The owner Richard, could not have been more helpful, the property is ideally situated to view this beautiful town. Excellent breakfast, superbly cooked.
Review 38:Richard is very welcoming and couldn't do enough for you. The breakfast keeps you going for the day. Location is central and within walking distance of restaurants etc.
Review 39:Great location in centre of town.Richard is always ready to assist, making our stay of 2 nights very enjoyable. Punch hotel okay for food - just around the corner.
Review 40:A lovely family run B&B. Made to feel very welcome. The external steps up to rooms work really well as we arrived back late in the evening. Would definately stay again if we are ever in the area.
Review 41:Restaurant has unfortunately closed as we were hoping to eat there.....plenty of places to eat within a short walk though!
Review 42:Location, lovely rooms with en-suites, owners very friendly.
Review 43:Sarah and Richard were extremely pleasant and welcoming hosts, who adapted conveniently to our earlier arrival time. On hearing it was my friend's 75th birthday, they very kindly surprised her with a card and flowers in our room, a lovely touch!
Review 44:Dirty, though owner cleaned up once this was pointed out. Rang owner's mobile in evening (as requested) if needed to talk to someone but no reply. Laundry was late so couldn't check in properly even though we arrived after check in time- might be an idea in future to keep emergency supply of sheets and towels for use.
Review 45:Location, breakfast
Review 46:Decor slightly weary, but a minor quibble.
Review 47:Adequate facilities, comfortable clean room and extremely helpful landlord. Handily placed for the centre of town.Excellent cooked breakfast.
Review 48:Difficult to get to but use the pay car park. just a hundred metres away. Not a problem even in the rain. Just became as in a very narrow one way street . Plan your approach befoe hand.
Review 49:The host excellent, couldn't do enough to help
Review 50:The owners were helpful in every respect. Such personal service, extremely accommodating and helpful. The breakfast was utterly delicious. Breathtaking experience and such value for money.
Review 51:Never had a bad expeience!
Review 52:We have stayed here on numerous occasions and we have never had a bad experience. They are helpful and will go out of their way to make your stay a pleasant one. Home from home!
Review 53:Being able to come and go we wanted to. An excellent breakfast. Comfortable bed, plenty of hot water, free wifi and well positioned in the town.
Review 54:It was a comfortable place to stay and a very short walk from the centre of Monmouth. We were welcomed by the owner and he was particularly helpful with where to park, where to eat and where to visit.
Review 55:Although the rooms themselves are very quiet, there is some street noise from pedestrians passing and from the nearby pub using its bins in the early morning.
Review 56:This is a small guesthouse in a side-street a few seconds away from the centre of town. It once contained a restaurant, but now you're likely to be sharing the building with just one or two other guests. The place has a slightly run-down air, but in a pleasant way. Everything in the room works well, there's good heating and ventilation and the owners can't do enough to help you.
Review 57:Nothing. Would highly recommend it
Review 58:Everything. Room lovely and clean and well maintained. Staff very welcoming, even offered a welcome cup of tea. Breakfast perfect. You can have anything you want and plenty of it. Good location as well.
Review 59:Unfortunately the breakfast was pretty terrible. The egg was well cooked but I couldn't get my knife through the veggie sausage, it was so tough.
Review 60:Location was great as were the recommendations on local bars and restaurants
Review 61:Having enjoyed our first stay we decided to stay again at the Coach House. Yet again we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We have recommended The Coach House to all our friends and family and look forward to visiting again to enjoy Richards hearty cooked breakfasts. Well done Richard!
Review 62:I dont think there is anything really. The bus doesnt go much on sundays so if you are traveling via bus make sure its on a weekday, But thats an issue with the county or rather its relatively remote location. Which again is great if you want to relax.
Review 63:The free wifi was superb. The bed was large and comfy, Better than i have at home. Its a nice calm place, In a calm town. If you need to mentally recharge this is the place to go to.
Review 64:The warmth of the welcome and friendliness of Richard and his mum. A great full breakfast, with gluten free bread and sausages for my gluten free husband! The bedroom was lovely; quiet, clean and cosy warm even on a very cold January night, with a large en suite bathroom. We'll come again!
Review 65:There was nothing I didn't like but would have been good to have enjoyed a drink in the old bar. Credit to Richard for his hospitality.
Review 66:The room was very comfortable, clean, warm and with plenty of room. Breakfast was excellent.
Review 67:Would have preferred a hot bath as well as a shower; however, this did not effect our enjoyment.
Review 68:On our arrival we were greeted by the owner, Richard, who not only assisted us on arrival with our parking but carried all of our luggage to our room. Richard cooked the best English cooked breakfast that I have had in years, table service assisted by his Mother who did everything she could to ensure we were well fed and watered prior to leaving the breakfast table. The bed linen was immaculate and the bed the perfect size for a couple in love! Thanks to Richards hard work, the Coach House is an incredibly welcoming, friendly and homely place to stay. The perfect base for those visiting on business or perhaps house-hunting. Well done again to Richard and to his parents for being so genuinely nice.
Review 69:The only access to our bedroom was via an outside metal staircase. This was well lit but would be a problem for some people and is not something made clear in the hotel description. The weather was dry for our visit but this would be less than ideal in the rain. There was no-one to greet us on arrival, and we had to call the landlord on his mobile. There appeared to be no member of staff on the premises all evening. The furniture in our room was dusty, the bathroom floor was covered in what appeared to be dried cement and the carpet needed replacing. The whole place looked as though it needed a lot of TLC.
Review 70:The location is very good, a couple of minutes from two theatres, car parking, the main street and shopping area. The bed was clean and very comfortable, and breakfast included very good quality bacon, eggs and sausages. The coffee served was excellent and readily topped up.The dietary requirements we requested were readily provided. The landlord was friendly, welcoming and extremely helpful, as was his mother, who served our breakfast.
Review 71:The proprietor and family could not have been more welcoming and obliging. We had a most comfortable night and were served an excellent breakfast, all at a very reasonable price.
Review 72:We totally loved this place, very comfortable, the room was spacious and warm, the staff were very friendly and helpful, breakfast was awesome, a full fry up, cereal, toast, coffee/tea, if we ever go back to Monmouth again (which hopefully we will) this will be the first place we try, we really enjoyed it at The Coach House
Review 73:No car park.
Review 74:Excellent and friendly host. Very helpful in finding car parking location. Nice room, comfortable bed. Good breakfast. Very reasonable cost.
Review 75:A little bit of noise from the street. Slightly slippery iron outside staircase up to the rooms.
Review 76:Spacious and comfortable room. Richard runs the place on his own, but was very attentive, and nothing was too much trouble. I had to have breakfast early, but he managed to produce it at just the right time.
Review 77:Nothing all good
Review 78:A really nice place to stay, room was large and comfortable, breakfast was good, and the owners local knowledge was a real help. Would stay again.
Review 79:We were told that the internal stairs "couldn't be reinstated" as the building was Grade 2 listed, so we were obliged to access our rooms via an external metal fire escape. Serious health and safety issue here, as it became very slippery after rain. If this is the only access to rooms, it renders the property completely unsuitable for anyone even slightly unsteady and certainly would not be a viable proposition for anyone disabled in any way. Is it, in fact, admissible for there to be no internal access? Rooms had not been cleaned prior to our arrival and net curtains were filthy. These were replaced after we complained, though the general cleanliness still left something to be desired. No door on shower cubicle in Room 2, cracked wash basin in Room 1, inexpertly repaired. No parking at property.
Review 80:Breakfast was good and Richard and his mum were very nice people.
Review 81:As I ride a motorcycle I don't always get a warm welcome, however on this occasion got a lovely welcome and lots of help with local taxi services where to go etc. Overall very impressed
Review 82:We had no problem with the outside steps to our room but using a stick could be difficult.
Review 83:This accommodation suited us perfectly. Not ostentatious but clean , comfortable and so close to shopping and restaurants. Richard was welcoming and helpful. We appreciated his tourist advice and the daily change of crockery - the attention to detail.
Review 84:Need a bit of a spit and polish here and there, maybe some fuller pillows.
Review 85:Great central location, warm and friendly welcome from a one man operation (his Mum & Dad helped serve breakfast which was very tasty). Couple of hundred yards from pubs, restaurants & theater. Clean room with all requested facilities provided. Good value for money.
Review 86:Although it has been stated there is no parking, this truly is not a problem as there is ample parking around the streets of this sleepy little town. The family went to great lengths to show us where to park.
Review 87:The location was just perfect in the town of Monmouth. Just a short walk into the town with lots of places to eat. The rooms were comfortable and roomy. The bed was so comfortable. This is a family run B and B. They were so hospitable and couldn't do enough for you whilst at the same time respecting your privacy. The court yard was so colourfull with patio furniture. We sat out in the evening with a glass of wine. The breakfast was cooked to perfection and was piping hot. I would highly recommend this B and B to anyone.
Review 88:Needed a hairdryer in the room. Reception and eating area could be tidied up. a lot of items
Review 89:Location very central, Quirky place . We had the largest room, very well lit, kingside bed very comfortable and large bathroom. Excellent cooked to order breakfast . very friendly staff and family atmosphere
Review 90:Shame no car park, but we managed to park not too far away
Review 91:Very helpful owner/manager - kindly parked car for us. Delightful room, very peaceful nights sleep and lovely breakfast. Would recommend
Review 92:The noisy 6am awakening by prolonged clattering, shouting deliveries to the next-door pub. Difficulties of one-way narrow street location for dropping off and loading luggage.
Review 93:Welcoming texts from the proprietor in advance of our stay. Kind, accommodating and gracious assistance, and lovely breakfast. Excellent location for visiting monmouth town. Comfortable, characterful bedroom with ample space.
Review 94:We received a courtesy text to ask about our time of arrival so someone was there to meet us. On arrival we were greeted by Richard who explained where we could park. We were shown our room which was lovely and clean and comfortable with everything we needed for our short break. The breakfast menu had plenty of choice to suit all tastes and nothing was too much trouble. Lovely people, a lovely place and a lovely time.
Review 95:Breakfast area didn't have the same style as the bedrooms.
Review 96:Size of the bedroom, color scheme, style, linen, comfortable beds, good bathroom - clean - bath mat a tonic under aching feet/ neutrality of bathroom colors/quietness of location, inner courtyard/v helpful owner & free paper a pleasant surprise/location to restaurants and main town perfect.
Review 97:Lovely friendly welcome with nice cup of coffee. Good directions to parking nearby (which was free). Room really comfy with lots of thoughtful extras. Tasty breakfast - I could only manage the small one! Excellent value for money - would pay more!!
Review 98:The personal care lavished by Richard upon his guests. He assisted me with my luggage, came back to the car park with me to direct me to free parking and when I was leaving collected my car and loaded the luggage. All this mitigated the draw back of being with out a car park. Lovely breakfast and such kindly friendliness - I was sorry to be only there for one night. And asp reasonably priced too.
Review 99:The rooms were filthy and covered in dust. The valance on the bed was disgustingly dirty (I took photos of all this) the sink in one room was cracked and masked up very poorly. The room was so small the bathroom door wouldn't open fully as it knocked the bed each time. The sink taps were wobbly. There was an iron mark on the carpet in the one room. The skirting boards had at least an inch of dust each. All in all would not return or recommend to anyone.
