Reviews for Punch House Monmouth
Review 1:Room was so so small, the whole place seemed to squeak (not surprising for it's age I guess), road traffic was horrendously noisy, no parking at all !
Review 2:Bar was nice, food was ok.
Review 3:It is a listed building and so the windows are single glazed sash. It is quite noisy because it is in the centre of Monmouth. Ear plugs are recommended!
Review 4:The Staff are very nice. I've stayed there twice now and nothing is too much trouble, no matter how long thrir shift has been.
Review 5:Parking only available in pay and display car park. This wasn't an issue for us as we arrived on a Saturday afternoon so was free after 5 until Monday but maybe an issue if staying during the week.
Review 6:Staff really good. Food excellent. Location in the centre of Monmouth perfect. Serves a great pint in the bar,
Review 7:Wales is generally not inexpensive. If you want a quiet place, make sure there is no "event" in the evening. Single pane windows next to a rather busy street aren't really great, either.
Review 8:Great choice for breakfast, other meals also fine. Really nice room, bathroom, tea cooker. Almost luxurious. Situated right in the middle of Monmouth.
Review 9:I disliked that I had to wait a long time to check in (as they'd misplaced my key). Also, breakfast was fine, however some parts lacked flavour (bacon was not crispy, and the potato cake was soggy and not flavoursome).
Review 10:I liked the location and the general ambience of the hotel.
Review 11:No AC so windows had to be open for ventilation. Town square just below made for a horribly noisy, sleepless night. A hotel for the winter months only, I'm afraid!
Review 12:Super location in the center of town.
Review 13:I visit Monmouth each year and always pay a visit the Punch House. Thisyear was very special as we got engaged right before arriving. The staffwent out of their way to make it special, and even gave us a card thenext morning. Great people, excellent pub. A must visit. The room wasbetter than expected as well!
Review 14:Its a mid 18th century coaching inn with modern clean bathrooms. Lots of character with good food and friendly helpful staff, central location with a cheap public car park near by. A classic English experience for the overseas traveller.
Review 15:Thin connecting door between room 7&8, could hear "everything " going on in the next room!!
Review 16:Great location and that you can relax in the bar/restaurant up until midnight. Great Fresh orange juice and Latte.
Review 17:The staff were so helpful and I was totally satisfied with the package and shall return. I also paid for my daughter and family to have New Years Day lunch there.
Review 18:Flights of steps to upper floors Smell of Beer at breakfast No disabled access Cold / Tepid breakfasts Strange dishes on evening Menu
Review 19:Cleanliness Room Size Room View
Review 20:The staff were excellent and this resulted in the whole experience being fantastic. This business is a 'well oiled machine' - highly recommended.
Review 21:The glass shelf above the sink is so close to the sink that it makes washing your face almost impossible.
Review 22:Lovely refurbishment, well decorated rooms, good shower, comfy bed.
Review 23:The second night we stayed at the Punch House between 2 - 3am a young group of residents at the Hotel let in people who were not staying there and ran riot, banging doors and shouting, broke into the cleaning cupboard and generally made it impossible to sleep, my concern is are people from the Punch House / staff on site as nobody stopped this!!
Review 24:Centrally placed in Monmouth
Review 25:Nothing really
Review 26:Friendly staff - management, bar staff, cleaners. All very accommodating & helpful. Well placed near the centre of Monmouth, with access to shops, coffee shops, pubs etc. Monmouth is a good centre for walking holiday.
Review 27:A member of staff who was well meaning, tho called me love!
Review 28:Location, Friendly helpful staff! Good breakfast menu, Clean comfortable rooms and late check out
Review 29:It was a bit noisy, but that's it nothing else to moan about

Review 31:Great Location, great food, great atmosphere
Review 32:The girl behind the bar did not want to be there and did not try to hide it.
Review 33:Incredibly friendly & helpful staff. Great location in the centre of town.
Review 34:The staff very helpful and friendly.
Review 35:It would be nice to have options other than cooked breakfast for breakfast (e.g cereal, fruit etc)
Review 36:Very comfy bed and friendly staff
Review 37:Friendly staff, good breakfast, good atmosphere, good value.
Review 38:So filthy..... toilets. Everyday replace not clean cup. Not cleaned and rectify room.

Review 41:Staff friendly and clean hotel ideal for a short stay.
Review 42:Excellent position. Friendly staff. Comfortable room, Great Breakfast freshly cooked to order. Hard to find a negative comment.
Review 43:I liked the friendliness of the staff, especially Hanna who served breakfast, she was so efficient yet really friendly.
Review 44:It was a bit noisy in the morning (traffic outside)
Review 45:Great central location
Review 46:Curtains let a lot of light in!
Review 47:Staff are friendly and helpful, room decor is nice, bed is comfy.
Review 48:Very noisy on the first floor as its above a pub/restaurant
Review 49:Good food
Review 50:New look and particularly the new bathrooms
Review 51:Noisy road traffic.
Review 52:The rooms looks very clean, also the location is perfect.
Review 53:Some noisy other guests. Guess you can't blame the hotel, but still...
Review 54:Very nice, friendly place & people.
Review 55:Location, v central Quality of decor and character of premises Friendly, helpful & competent staff Cleanliness Good food Value for money
Review 56:Confusion + lack of communication between night and morning staff over start time of breakfast. 8.30 is late if the inn hopes to attract business clientele. Lack of parking space.
Review 57:Quality of food, room and atmosphere. Very helpful and thoughtful staff.
Review 58:Town centre location, so could be a bit noisy, also on first floor room above bar and some noise heard above if busy in the restaurant/bar. No onsite car park
Review 59:Lovely refurbished bedrooms, comfortable beds, nice decor, Good breakfast.
Review 60:Nothing! All positive!
Review 61:Excellent, excellent room! Great size and very new and fresh, really loved it! Fantastic staff and very good food! Highly recommended!!!!
Review 62:Excellent all round. Perfect location for us (visiting for a wedding), very comfortable and stylish rooms. Would return for sure. We got a great deal through booking.com and I have to say it was the bargain of the century.
Review 63:Leaving
Review 64:Stayed at the Punch House for a walking weekend. Bedrooms were lovely and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was excellent and staff very friendly. Will definitely go again.
Review 65:The door of the shower unit in the room was badly planned as this was unable to open completely due to the towel radiator being in the way. There was no separate lounge from the room for guests to sit in after hours to be able to read/watch television. There was no car park belonging to the hotel, although there was one nearby which was free parking from 17.00 hours to 09.00 the following day.
Review 66:The recent renovations were tastefully done, the food was very good and available all day, the staff friendly, the hotel situated in the centre of the town, the rooms clean and comfortable.
Review 67:Only 1 thing really which is that it was very cold in the night not being able to turn on the radiators but did notice they got warm in morning but it was frezzing
Review 68:Loved the room was very smart from people who I spoke too before it is a big improvement from before it was refurbished will be staying again sometime...loved the variety of food you had to offer for breakfast
Review 69:The breakfast left a lot to be desired, one it was certainly just warmed up as everything other than the egg was hard.also breakfast was not available till 8am.
Review 70:It's situation in the town
Review 71:Having to leave
Review 72:Extremely helpful and polite staff . Had a really lovely stay. all our rooms were very individually and tastefully decorated . Would definitely stay here again
Review 73:Excellent value for money. Rooms were luxurious, comfortable and full of character. I liked the location - right in town surrounded by good pubs and shops.
Review 74:Absolutely nothing to find fault with.
Review 75:Our room was excellent. Large , clean and very comfortable. Nicely decorated. Location in the centre of the town was perfect for us. Thought parking might be an issue but the pay and display car park was just a couple of minutes walk away. A very enjoyable stay.
Review 76:We were aware that previous feedback said the hotel was dirty and noisy so we had to check it out. Hotel was as expected. The Builders putting scaffold round the hotel at 7.00 Sunday morning, was a bonus.
Review 77:The following day was being closed for refubishment
Review 78:The place was in bad need of refurbished. We had a family room which should have had a double bed in but didnt.
Review 79:A bit loud during the night, however, there were earplugs provided in the room.
Review 80:Great little pub hotel. Good food, good location. Love the history there.
Review 81:hotel is in major need of refurb ...... bathroom winow needs some frosted film ... had to close the curtains to use the loo !!
Review 82:central location good entertainment
Review 83:It is now looking more than a little tired - in fact rather down at heel especially in communal areas. Definitely in need of the refurb I was told it is due to get very soon.
Review 84:It is very convenient for where I need to go when I am in Monmouth otherwise I would not stay there - it isn't up to much!
Review 85:it is a sad old place ,in great need of decoration.all visible horizontal surfaces have a good layer of dust. the shower/bath in room 9 was unhygenic with serious black mildew deposits ,a lack of water pressure and no shower curtain or riser rail. If this hotel is an example of other Brains group hotels the management have a serious problem
Review 86:need a general overhaul. Staff friendly but beds very uncomfortable. The pillows were like pancakes needed about 5 to make 1 descent! The room was very shoddy old furniture tiles off the wall in bathroom . There for 3 days no cleaning took place or fresh towels the only thing replenished was free tea and coffee. suppose you get what you pay for but still not worth £40 per night. Do not usually moan about a place we stay but definately would not return.
Review 87:very central in Monmouth, lots of nice pubs and shops
Review 88:The bathroom and the shower tap was the worst. It couldn't work well, it only provided a little line of water to run out.
Review 89:Location and the food is excellent .
Review 90:Awful Friday entertainment. "Live music" was a one man karaoke who looked like Al Murray but sang like Jimmy Sommerville. Breakfast was poor value. Hard fried eggs. Weatherspoons across the square is better value. Lack of shower facilities was a big letdown. Dirty pub seats. Noise from the square early in the morning might disturb some, but it is a great location otherwise.
Review 91:The character of the Hotel was great, and for the money it was good value. Yes it was tired, but it is a few hundred years old. The staff were great, very friendly and helpful and the room was clean and comfortable. Had the four poster room which was huge and in character.Just remember, it is old. So if you like modern, go to a Premier Inn. Great location in the centre of Monmouth and I had no trouble getting parking up the road by the museum. Beer was good in the bar but the seats were dirty which was a shame.
Review 92:I probably would have paid extra If the option was available to have the 4 poster room
Review 93:Excellent price for an excellent location. Rooms were clean and furnished traditionally. Room was hot but there was a good fan in there and would stay again. It was central location with parking right behind which was very cheap. We paid extra for the breakfast which was nice. Staff were really friendly
Review 94:The shower head wasn't attached to the wall so we had to hold the shower when we used it.
Review 95:The room was great, large spacious and with a four poster bed. The breakfast was lovely and the evening meal was fantastic (ample amounts, choice and value for money).
Review 96:filthy dirty room, carpets, bathroom, fire exit blocked with bicycles no facilities - ie shower gel, shampoo soap toilet rolls or a spoon to stir hot drinks - best of all bird excrement on the top of the so-called ward-robe
Review 97:Nothing @ all
Review 98:The strange bath/shower combo. Water went everywhere, no curtain was provided. The bathroom was like a paddy field. And the fan was broken in the bedroom.
Review 99:Liked the location, the comfy four-poster bed, the town and the atmosphere. The glorious summer weather also helped.
Review 100:Sad state of carpets Concerns about fire doors not closing properly -laundry at top of emergency stairs. Insufficient pillows and no extrasavailable. Sheets too small for bed. Only one soap dispenser working
Review 101:Position in centre of Monmouth
Review 102:Would rather have had a shower than a bath. No light over mirror in bathroom. Could do with a lick of paint and a few minor repairs.
Review 103:Central location. Convenient. Comfortable rooms. We liked being in a pub in the middle of a market town and it was quiet while we were there (Monday - Tuesday). However, I expect it could be a bit noisy at weekends.
Review 104:Rooms comfortable and linen and towels were very clean. As were the bedrooms and bathrooms. Staff helpful and the breakfast was cooked well and served very efficiently.
Review 105:Absence of hot water in en-suite bathroom and the fact that the toilet did not flush, and the hardness of the bed.
Review 106:Old coaching inn atmosphere and location
Review 107:rooms a bit old, upon our arrival we found the windows open, and on the beds there were bird droppings, but the question of a possible mistake
Review 108:Beautiful location, in the village square, a typical English pub, with traditional food. Helpful and friendly
Review 109:The hotel was dirty. SA Brains senior management should be ashamed. If this is there idea of how to run a hotel they better stick to beer. If a visitor from the continent or USA accidentally booked a room here, they would be horrified at the state of the stairs leading to their room and the room itself.
Review 110:Great location in the middle of historic Monmouth.
Review 111:Staff weren't always around and available for enquiries. I should have received my tax receipt in the morning when leaving, but due to not being able to find anyone and needing to catch a train, I had to just leave.
Review 112:Loved the old feel pub style accomodation. Felt transported back in time, but it was comfortable and warm. Lovely old decor a gorgeous feel to the place. Will definitely go back.
Review 113:Had to dance under the shower to get wet, and the bathroom was to dark even in daylight, but that is all.
Review 114:The beds were great and the room was large great value, bedding was clean and the staff were good. Ideal location. Thankyou.
Review 115:Bottom sheet straight on top of the mattress
Review 116:Monmouth is an ancient town and the pub was right in the middle with really helpful staff - and a great British breakfast. Loved our room with its ancient fireplace
Review 117:The old Inn is incredibly beautiful. It is right in the center with a great view on the town. It's like being taken back in time. We'd love to go there again
Review 118:The pub was very busy on my arrival but I was looked after, shown to my room and made to feel very welcome. The food was spot on too. To say there was only 3 members of staff working they all were superb
Review 119:Noise from other rooms. Bedstead was not attached to headboard and sheets were ill fitting.
Review 120:Location, central to town centre facilities. Could access direct from the street. Free car park nearby. Helpfulness of staff.
Review 121:nothing to dislike
Review 122:staff were freindly and helpfull ,good entertainment very lively .good location.good value .nice big room with a four poster for 40 quid
Review 123:The place was filthy. Clearly had not been cleaned. Duvet and pillows were well past needing to be replaced. Obviously not the first time someone had asked for their money back as it was given with no fuss whatsoever!
Review 124:the rooms could've done with a lick of paint/general tidy up
Review 125:staff were brilliant, very helpful and friendly. breakfast was very good value and again lovely friendly service.
