Reviews for Ty Dderw Country Inn
Review 1:The bumpy road up to the Hotel.
Review 2:The Hotel is well laid out and the rooms are comfortable and tastefully decorated. The meals in the restaurant were well priced and high quality. The stand out feature of the hotel though was the staff who were very helpful and friendly, in particular Sue who we saw in the morning and Sian in the evening both couldn't do more to help.
Review 3:Arrived/checked in late. Room (room 6) smelt and felt damp but didn't ask for alternative room that night as it was so late and was with a young child. Both woke up coughing and with bad chests and so asked to be moved to another room that night as not only were walls in ensuite damp and mouldy, but shower-head mouldy and shower dirty in general with previous guest's half-used toiletries still in there! Staff admitted they already knew there was a problem with damp in the room so offered to deep-clean ensuite with strong chemicals (not an option in such a tiny room and as both of us already had bad chests by that point) or move us to a single room with a double bed. Refused single room as we had paid for a twin not a single! Eventually offered larger room (room 2). On first glance this looked ok but on closer inspection was very dirty (see photos), bathroom walls also mouldy (see photos) and windows broken (would not lock at all so security issue!) and very mouldy (see photos). When we asked for the final bill to be reduced as a gesture and for the inconvenience we were told that no-one else had had a problem previously with either room. Funny that there are already comments on here referring to damp and staff I had spoken to on the previous day admitted they knew that there was a damp problem but told me the owner refused to close the rooms and fix the problem! Also told that I had been lucky to have been "upgraded" and that room 2 is let out at £150 per night. I had not asked to be "upgraded", just simply expected a twin room that I had booked and paid for that didn't smell and feel damp! If room 2 is let out at £150 it definitely shouldn't be. The décor is nice but too many issues with the room.
Review 4:Felt a little like kids when the manager asked us to retire to our rooms at midnight!!!
Review 5:Had a great meal and drinks with friends. Really comfortable clean room. Would recommend to anyone.
Review 6:Room was rather grubby and in desperate need of redecoration. Bathroom ceiling & walls were mouldy, and shower screen seal was also mouldy. Car park was full of potholes and puddles.
Review 7:Cooked breakfast was good, but limited choice if you didn't want the traditional fry. Staff were friendly. Bedding was clean
Review 8:Being shut out at 9.40pm. All was dark, after much banging a guest let us in. The smell of damp/plumbing even with the window open.
Review 9:Good breakfast and staff working the morning shift.
Review 10:Food was inconsistent with one course served below temperature but my main beautiful felt it was a little expensive for the evening meal but lovely breakfast food should be consistent
Review 11:Lounge and restaurant beautiful appointed with lovely log fire and comfortable seating
Review 12:The road way in was bumpy. Room to small, only 5 hangers which were cheap giveaways from shops in wardrobe for 2 people, smallest bin I've seen .very flimsy tips over if you touch it with your foot. Bedding was well past its best. No towel rail in bathroom and not cleaned very well. Sink chipped. 2 star would be a compliment.
Review 13:The view
Review 14:This is definitely NOT a complaint but the staff were a little overworked at the weekend. The hotel was full of residents, and several visitors to the bar and restaurant, so service was a bit slow. Their popularity stands out resuting in this.
Review 15:The good food and friendliness of the staff.
Review 16:the amount of the meal at dinner was small and the lighting in the resturant was poor. the carpark needs doing.
Review 17:the room had every think you need, the bar was nice and staff very good.
Review 18:Bathroom could really do with an update. Hooks for towels not strong enough so no place for them while showering!
Review 19:Very good dinner shared with two other people. Breakfast also very good. Towels & bed linen nice and clean but stools & chair in room rather tired and stained. Staff, all very pleasant and helpful.
Review 20:We had an evening meal in the restaurant but we were dissapointed with the quality and the price. Our fillet steak was tough and came with half a dozen chips and a couple of carrots and cost about £18. The dining room was quite pleasant but lacked atmosphere and other customers.
Review 21:Lounge and bar is comfy. Staff quite friendly and helpful.
Review 22:nothing major. the room (a single) may be a little small if you have large luggage to open and lay out. the hotel didn't show on my satnav so had to drive a bit around to find it.
Review 23:the room and bed (single) were small-ish but cosy and comfortable, nicely furnished with a beach-theme. could see a glimpse of the sea from the window. very quiet. bath large and modern. breakfast very nice.
Review 24:Matress could feel springs and pillows and quilt very flat not good quality
Review 25:Location lovely staff nothing to much trouble always cleaning and clearing tables very
Review 26:Not really - but got home to find I had only paid for one night - whereas I stayed 2 nights so had to ring to explain I needed another bill!!!!
Review 27:Quiteness and convenient to visit other destinations
Review 28:The noise level from both the room next door and the bar downstairs was intrusive. We could not consider sleeping until the bar was cleared downstairs at midnight.
Review 29:Lovely large room with a huge bathroom. Excellent evening meal served quickly and efficiently despite being really busy.
Review 30:I was arriving late on Sunday but the staff were able to ensure that I could order hot food way past the usual time. As well as being beyond the call of duty, thanks Chef!, it was also the freshest, most well prepared sea bass I think I have ever had.
Review 31:The noise from the downstairs bar is of a sufficient volume to disturb sleep. The floodlighting outside the building is positioned such that it lights up the bedroom. Although they are switched off by 11, if you are planning an early night and are sensitive to light pollution, you will suffer, as did I.
Review 32:I found the staff very friendly, the breakfast was lovely and cooked to order, and appeared on my table very quickly. The bed was extremely comfortable.
Review 33:Don't bother with the restaurant in evening. Items on the menu were omitted from my meal. Overpriced. The door closing mechanism was very vicious on our room. I caught my fingers in the door twice and my wife hurt her finger badly on our last night. We tried to bring it to their attention but they didn't seem to want to take it seriously. Someone will injure themselves badly if it isn't fixed. This was room 7.
Review 34:Fantastic location. Sea view from bedroom window. Breakfast was included and was good.
Review 35:Everything was great but it would have been nice to have been offered a greater variety of food at breakfast eg, fresh fruit salad, smoked haddock and scrambled eggs, continental option.
Review 36:Great room with a view of Snowdonia and large en suite bathroom. Lovely restaurant and evening meal.
Review 37:Breakfast meals were very small and stingy. 1 sausage, 1 hash brown and a couple of tea spoons of beans. The room was tiny and not worth £80 a night. The bed was small for two people, could have done with a king size for a comfortable nights sleep. Room was very hot at night and no fan was provided. I bought an orange juice from the bar and the glass was so small I finished it in 2 sips. Wifi was terrible and could not get any signal anywhere throughout our stay. Overpriced for what it is.
Review 38:The staff seemed not to care very much about the guests.. like there was something more important happening behind the scenes. The breakfast was not so good.
Review 39:Liked the location and the restaurant/lounge. The dinner was very nice and good price.
Review 40:Dogs !! Even in the bar where food was being served. I am sure this is illegal. If the hotel had stated it was "dog friendly" I would not have stayed.
Review 41:The staff.
Review 42:Room too small, more suited as asingle, nowhere to sit other than bed. Staff either invisible or indifferent, cleanliness not brilliant, room not serviced properly.
Review 43:Attractive interior decor
Review 44:The evening meal was poor and we sent it back. The wait for the meal was far too long and no offer of recompence was given by the staff.
Review 45:Good location,pleasant staff
Review 46:The bed unfortunately was most uncomfortable and the pillows were like stuffed socks! The younger members of staff were not very cheerful or helpful..perhaps some training would improve this area
Review 47:general environment of the House was very good and food was very good and well presented. Manager was friendly and the standard of cleanliness was excellent.
Review 48:the bed mattress was very odd soft head to hips and rock hard hips to toes. I didn't sleep well first night. I turned the mattress second day and that helped, got a good second night. I didn't let them know. They probably would have sorted it. .
Review 49:Very friendly nice atmosphere, no noise from pub/restaurant. All staff were pleasant and attentive,. Breakfast was fresh, tasty and delivered quickly.
Review 50:The lamb shanks in restraunt were uncooked! We had booked a king room but it was not available. Very disappointed and we had to make do with a small double room. Not very happy.
Review 51:The bathroom towels, the location, the breakfast!
Review 52:Can't think of anything
Review 53:staff were so helpful is helping sort meals, early breakfasts, packed lunches etc. We needed to store sports gear overnight and again a member of staff went to great lengths to help us with that too. Brilliant!
Review 54:Bedroom needs updating/painting. Needs good clean.black mood round bath/tiles skirting board/door to bathroom needs dusting, bin lid and round taps need cleaning.light shades in bedroom need cleaning. Would be better if had full length mirror. Cigarette dimps outside main door in morning
Review 55:Staff pleasant. Food excellent in restaurant complements to chef.
Review 56:Really big and spacious room with sea view, friendly staff, great food in a restaurant with plenty of vegetarian options, would definitely stay again.
Review 57:The only problem was on arrival we were put in the wrong room.
Review 58:The room had a lovely view and the staff were very helpful especially at breakfast when made table so we could bring the dog.
Review 59:Room 9 is in need of some work, shabby/peeling paintwork, hole in the wall. Bathroom ceiling was mouldy and showerhead was filthy. Bed mattress well passed its best, could feel the springs through the cover.
Review 60:Good location, nice views, lovely breakfast. Plenty of towels & tea/coffee/biscuits etc. Ok for the price we paid.
Review 61:It was a very hot day and I couldn't turn the red hot radiator off , room was like a sauna. Staff couldn't turn it off either. Old
Review 62:Staff welcoming and friendly easy to chat to . important when you are on your own.
Review 63:Unfortunately the unprofessionalism of the staff spoilt our stay at the hotel. Staff swearing at the bar at the end of their shift, staff being vague as to who we were a couple of hours after we had checked in. Nobody available at reception when we came to check out and the computer had crashed so we were asked if we knew how much we owed. Although the room was generally clean, linen, towels etc. the state of the toilet brush gave us a clear impression of the priorities or lack of priorities of the staff. To top it all on the day of our arrival we were greeted with the news that the boiler had broken and there was no hot water. This was finally rectified by the end of the evening but we still had to ask about it, nobody had bothered to let us know.
Review 64:The downstairs public area of the hotel was very tasteful and comfortable, the views were lovely and the food was good.
Review 65:Nothing
Review 66:The inn is conveniently located near to all attractions on the eastern side of the island, in a quiet location, but within 500yds of the pretty village of Moelfre.
Review 67:Several items on restaurant menu were not available which restricted choice somewhat.
Review 68:Friendly and comfortable small hotel with a great bar, lounge area and restaurant. Short walk to lovely village of Moelfre.
Review 69:Poor quality television- couldn't find channels and picture unwatchable. Staff helpful and gave us another room where TV did work.
Review 70:The staff were friendly and helpful. The food (we ate there every evening) was excellent.
Review 71:Height of mirror in bathroom. No bath mat to stop you slipping when using shower.
Review 72:Location of property to get around the island and to the bays close by
Review 73:Booked for four nights left after two.found.room situated over bar, very noisy especially when bar closed and people stayed outside for over half hour talking loudly
Review 74:Room good
Review 75:Dvd on tv room 1 no working, informed this had been the case and complaint from other customers but nothing done! The chef did not turn up to cook breakfast so ws cooked ny house keeping! Noisey party being had by staff until 1.00 am kept us up most of the night shouting playing loud music bresking glass ! You staff had no concern for customers staying just got drunk !
Review 76:Waiting on staff really good, breakfast staff especially the pregnant lady very good, pulled around what wS a horrible stay Food in the evening good
Review 77:TV in room 5 needs servicing & dusting at back. The bed would benefit from a new mattress cover. Bathroom not cleaned.
Review 78:Very friendly & helpful staff. Food was well presented, although perhaps the breakfast menu could have been more varied. Very clean apart from comment concerning TV
Review 79:Luke-warm porridge, must have been standing for a long time before being served! Veggie sausage not nice. Bedside lamp had no power socket to plug into! Extractor fan in bathroom not working for quite sometime, judging by the mildew on the ceiling.
Review 80:Lovely location, friendly staff and nice large room.
Review 81:The room overlooked the dustbins. It was above the ladies toilets and we could hear all that was going on in there. When we opened the window there was a smell from the kitchen vent. There was only one set of towels.
Review 82:The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean. The breakfast was excellent. The welcome was good.
Review 83:Nothing.
Review 84:The friendliness and professionalism of the staff and the great quality of the food, presentation of it and the taste. Bar area is beautiful.
Review 85:Wi fi only in the pub/lounge area, no chance in the bedroom. The bathroom was very much in need of an upgrade. Restaurant was not as good as we expected, very ordinary really
Review 86:Views from window were good
Review 87:Being charged £6 for 2 lemonades which was more than a pint of beer, we did query the price with the waitress but was told the price was correct.
Review 88:Staff very friendly, nice view from room, excellent breakfast.
Review 89:A small hairdryer would be very useful
Review 90:Great location for village lovely views of coast from bedroom window good vegetarian meal good selection of bar drinks
Review 91:We were in the family room (only one available at time of booking) lovely large window and beautiful view marred by condensation and mould between the sheets of glass. Bathroom was dark, not very clean and well past its shelf life. We reported several minor problems about the bedside light, broken bed head and electrical socket issues to a male staff member but nothing was done. There were too few staff to cover through the daytime.
Review 92:Helpful, pleasant female staff. Good public areas - comfortable and attractive bar/lounge/restaurant.
Review 93:Small & noisy room. Poor wifi Dreadful food - burger was the most indescribable food item. Vomiting most of the night after eating a small quantity. Will not stay at this hotel ever again. The experience ruined our trip
Review 94:Location & easy to find
Review 95:Room was not very clean, full of dust and bathroom did not make impression of clean, drive to the propery vdry rohgh and bumpy _ £95 per room was a little too much for the standard of the room
Review 96:Nice staff, nice atmosphere in the lounge, at the bar, lovely restaurant, lovely food and beautiful views
Review 97:It was dirty and grubby. The bathroom had corners of dirt and mold. Thebreakfast took for ever to arrive and when it did it was just slopped onthe plate. I do not expect bacon cooked in a deep frier. I could go onmuch more but what is the point. I could wait to get out of there so mywife would stop tutting and moaning about it - but I had to agree withher. A weekend thoroughly ruined thank you!
Review 98:It was quite
Review 99:There were no poor experiences at all
Review 100:The staff were all great & a credit to the business. This applies especially to the manager who was most welcoming when we arrived & whenever he saw us during our stay.
Review 101:Single track road to hotel from main road poor and full of potholes, car park full of potholes , access and egress poor due to blind spots. Did not expect to see dogs allowed into a dinning area .
Review 102:Staff very friendly and helpful ,room was a good size with a good view of Moelfre Bay, good overall atmosphere and good décor. Breakfast very good with a good choice of menu. Cost of accommodation very reasonable for the area.
Review 103:The bathroom ceiling was leaking and we had to move to another room. The restaurant was too expensive so we ate elsewhere. Large potholes in the drive.
Review 104:Staff were welcoming.
Review 105:Thought I would have got vegetables at least included with my main course of fish at my evening meal. Was disappointing see food from night before under dining table at breakfast
Review 106:Very nice view from bedroom windows. Bed comfortable. Staff friendly.
Review 107:The bed was too small and too soft. The facilities are basic, the bathroom dated and the plumbing on its last legs. the hotel is a little isolated so we stayed for dinner. The food was perhaps the worst we have had in a decade. The staff, with one exception were morose.
Review 108:Walls between rooms ludicrously thin. Mr UK Snoring champion in next room kept us awake all night. Otherwise fine but this one big negative outweighed the positives unfortunately.
Review 109:Unfortunately my room only had a shower not a bath, there is no lift to get up to the rooms so access was a little tricky with a broken leg but not impossible.
Review 110:The food, staff and atmosphere were fantastic
Review 111:We worried about coming to a hotel with our dog even though he is well behaved. We were met by very friendly staff, made comfortable and within 20 minutes or so we were all sat on the patio in the sunshine supping a welsh beer. In the morning we we retreated to a freshly cooked breakfast - nothing left under heater lamps here - and it was delicious. The atmosphere was friendly from both staff and other guests and we would certainly recommend it.
Review 112:Paid twice for our stay as the girl that was left in charge when we checked out didn't know what she was doing. No apology was offered for their mistake. The food was very expensive for what it was. No interaction from staff i.e. not once were we asked if we had enjoyed our stay.
Review 113:Room small but ok, location good. Use the pub in the village for food as it is half the price and very good.
Review 114:The only thing for me, as a dog owner (and there were lots of those staying during my time there!) is I would like a small enclosed piece of paddock to let the dog on at Breakfast time and before bed - not totally comfortable with letting her 'have her comfort break' on the car park, even though I always clean it up!!
Review 115:I loved breakfast and the fact that your dog can sit with you - as they prepare a special seating area for dog owners! The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, and the place has a lovely feel to it.
Review 116:Wifi didn't work Could hear talking from other rooms, walls must be very thin!
Review 117:Location Very dog friendly Lovely evening meal Excellent breakfast Bar and restaurant area Friendly staff
Review 118:I didn't know that this was a dog friendly hotel I found out from the hair on the blanket on the bed, the carpet wasn't horrendous but it didn't look like it had been hoovered and there was hair all in the shower. The shower it's self was a ok size for me (size 10) anyone bigger you wouldn't have been able to fit in it. The walls are very thin, I could hear banging from the kitchen having said that the banging didn't go on all through the night (so I am guessing they know this) We paid £40 for the room I think if it was the original price I would have been annoyed and complained (due to the cleanliness of the room) The staff were lovely but in the restaurant at night time there was a couple of staff members who really wernt sure what was going on ( I chose to give them the benefit of the doubt after all they could be new) If the room was more clean I would still go back.
Review 119:The staff were friendly and a beautiful location. The evening meal was delicious. Good price.
Review 120:Nothing - even the sun came out when forecast nothing but rain!! :0)
Review 121:Great location, superb food, lovely local beer - even a local Gin! Helpful & friendly staff. Super-king double room with views of the mountains & sea highly recommended & we could watch the lambs in the field too!
Review 122:the fact that you could hear people talking in the bar/resturant from the bedroom and also you could hear people talking in the next bedroom
Review 123:the lovely views. friendly staff, breakfast, the room was just standard
Review 124:My wife and I found that the evening menu was the same for the three nights we stayed there and a greater choice would have been nice. The quality was very good. The bathroom sick in room 7 did not have a plug hole guard so you had to be careful.
Review 125:For visiting places around Anglesey we found it a good location. The inn had a warm feeling about it and the bedroom was comfortable with a nice shower in the bathroom.
Review 126:The breakfast was so good that all the hash browns hade been eaten - lack of these made up by extra sausages!
Review 127:Everything was so easy. An individualistic hotel with little quirky features & attention to detail that we found to be charming. The Staff were excellent - so obliging & forthcoming with information.
Review 128:To many dogs about.Could have been cleaner and the food was below par.The breakfast was cold,we couldn't eat it and there was only one person on duty. Our room was above the bar,so it didn't go quiet until 12:15am.We will not be staying again.
Review 129:The only thing was the location.
Review 130:Small room. No wardrobe. Friday evening very busy resulting in long wait for table.
Review 131:Attractive building and decor. Very pleasant and accommodating staff. Comfortable room.Had an enjoyable stay
Review 132:The lady who manned the reception and bar was friendly, efficient and helpful. She seemed to like her work, as well - you don't hear many people quietly singing as they work. I trust the hotel value her!
Review 133:No bad experiences, LED lights along roof go out at closing but shine into room till then. Shower could be better. Light only one side of bed. Friend in another room experienced some noise from bar area below. But very good overall.
Review 134:Very friendly staff. Good beer voice, well kept real ale. Tasty food which was reasonable value for money. Ample breakfast quality ingredients Nice location, rural but close to Moelfre village centre. Will fi generally ok.
Review 135:Room above bar quite noisy at times. Menu very limited. bathroom not as clean as would have liked and damage to floor could do with sorting.
Review 136:Location and view from rooms fantastic. Food in restaurant very tasty. lounge area very comfortable and nice area to sit and relax.
Review 137:The bedding felt very synthetic and cheap.
Review 138:The staff were extremely warm and friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Lovely bar and lounge and the food in the restaurant was very good. The hotel is near enough to Holyhead for the ferry. The bedding
Review 139:Creaking floors Limited cereal choice Heating turned off in rooms until 4.30-5.00pm during day which made them cold to come back to after a day out in cold weather.
Review 140:The evening meal choice and standard was excellent. Staff very helpful and friendly
Review 141:The main dinner was smaller than I would have liked - not good value for money, or good range of selection under varying budgets however I was surprised to not be left hungry.
Review 142:The location was easy to find; The Inn was extremely well laid out offering all facilities in a wonderful setting of green fields and coastal sea views rolled up in one! The breakfasts were superb being an enormous and tasty start for the day; The staff were extremely helpful in providing travel advice and ensuring my stay was a good experience with the "wow" factor; The friendliness of other guests I met at breakfast; The village location was excellent for coastal walking.
