Reviews for Ashley Park House

Review 1:There was nothing I did not like!

Review 2:Beautiful house and grounds-peaceful and romantic; feeling of in tune with history and nature. Wonderful host Margaret. Excellent choice of healthy breakfast. Unforgettable experience.

Review 3:Not well signposted unless coming from Nenagh. Bathroom could do with an uplift.

Review 4:Just like staying in a country house for the weekend. Breakfast excellent and service very good.

Review 5:Having to go home!

Review 6:This is the ultimate place for a retreat. The house is so homely and welcoming you feel like it's your own. There is such warmth and character in this house and the friendliness of the owners and staff is something you don't get in every hotel. Breakfast is outstanding with so much to choose from and the dining table is like Downton Abbey as you sit around it with other fellow guests. We took the small rowing boat out on the lake in the sunshine which was so peaceful.

Review 7:The fact I was staying only 1 night.

Review 8:Beautiful location , fantastic building the owner was a super lady very welcoming and hospitable. Staff I met were very polite. Lovely breakfast and evening meal .

Review 9:We had to wait an hour for our dinner after the reserved time and someone else was given our place. That's the only complaint, everything else was excellent

Review 10:Room and food were both wonderful. It's quirky old house with lots of character. Lovely setting that will only get better with improvements being made. We'll be back.

Review 11:Staff was unusually friendly and went above and beyond what was necessary to provide good service. Food was wonderful, especially the Full Irish Breakfast.

Review 12:All good!

Review 13:A beautiful, 'old worldy' guesthouse in a wonderful setting. Friendly and helpful staff, great food and breathtaking views... Also, J Ryan's pub close by in Carney is a must visit. (Time it right and you'll get great trad music with your glass of plain!)

Review 14:Be careful. They overcharged me a lot and I'm still waiting for a refund even though they accepted they 'made a mistake' Weeks of delaying tactics, asking for bank numbers, then other bank numbers, until finally silence. Avoid or at least check your receipts.

Review 15:Lovely setting. Nice room.

Review 16:The dinner was over priced. Although good, it was in no way worth the price we paid.

Review 17:Quaint charm, pleasant setting. The staff were welcoming and helpful. We felt at ease to stay there with our young child.

Review 18:We were put in a cold, miserable, dark gardeners cottage which was horrible. Refused to stay there. Found us a room in the house. Room was dusty and not serviced during our stay. Overcharged for meal. Put a 3.5% mark up on exchange rate. Rate charged was 1.36 when the actual rate was 4.2. Would like refund. Would not recommend.

Review 19:We liked the location. The house was interesting.

Review 20:There was no hot water in our room. The mattresses need to be replaced.

Review 21:The staff was amazing. Very accommodating and friendly. It was a beautiful, historical house. We LOVED the dinner!

Review 22:Booked a "Spacious room featuring an en suite bathroom with bath, and 2 windows overlooking the lake" My room was in the basement with no en suite & No View. No towels, no loo paper and no hot water. This was not the relaxing weekend I had envisioned.

Review 23:Great location, beautiful

Review 24:Nothing

Review 25:Beautiful period house in beautiful surroundings overlooking a lake. Bedroom beautifully decorated with period features and overlooking a courtyard with peacocks freely roaming. Bed was extremely comfortable. Staff were very helpful and friendly, couldn't do enough. Breakfast was fantastic with a great selection of food including cooked breakfast and served on a big old dining table with china service. Really lovely atmosphere. There was a lovely relaxing lounge with comfy sofas and open fire. Would definitely recommend.

Review 26:Tiny detail, but signage could be better from road. My sat nav brought me down a very bumpy back road.

Review 27:The location was stunning, looking onto a lake surrounded by woodland. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The rooms are a stunning and full of character, a refreshing change on the standard generic rooms Seen in modern hotels.

Review 34:This B&B is a lovely old house in a beautiful setting on a lake. The room was decorated grandly and to the period as well as the public rooms. Our room and bath were huge and very comfortable. The staff was welcoming and helpful. It is not located in a tourist area but would be a great place to stop on your way out of or into Dublin. Dinner and breakfast are served in a grand dining room.

Review 75:Charming house, friendly staff and delightful stop in a woodland setting with outlook over a private llake. It would be perfect for kids to enjoy.

Review 76:I recently stayed at the Ashley Park Hotel for a friends wedding. The reception was truly amazing - champagne on arrival, pianist, the lake, views and walks. The wedding dinner was sensational in the beautifully elegant dining room. A wonderful setting for such a wonderful occasion. We had a great night of dancing, a magnificent venue for a wedding. We stayed in a beautiful apartment at the rear of the building, so well decorated, warm and great beds. All our friends had wonderful rooms in the main building, the hotel is a true gem overlooking the lake and don’t forget the walks. The breakfast was top class also, just what was needed and more. The staff could not have been any more helpful especially Margaret, a great lady who was so helpful and kind throughout our stay. We cannot thank her enough for her hospitably and generosity. A great venue for a wedding or a relaxing break, Ashley Park Hotel impressed on all levels.

Review 77:dinner not priced and then bill for food expensive and food not good bedroom door lock jammed and no phone in bedroom to get help.Main town Nenagh not very interesting

Review 78:dog friendly

Review 79:would have loved to have a drink sitting on the veranda looking out at the lake - a small bar would be an amazing asset

Review 80:A wonderful warm welcome and a fabulous place to relax and unwind

Review 81:Two reservations: when we visited, the service both at dinner and, more surprisingly, breakfast, was very slow. Also, dinner was expensive and the food only ok.

Review 82:The location and views were every bit as beutiful as we expected. It is a place with lots of character and charming quirkiness. A family with children would have a great time here. Also ideal for a romantic break.

Review 83:the house was great, lovely setting. The owners couldn't have done more to make us feel welcome. The breakfast was great and the grounds were lovely.

Review 84:Scraping the barrel to find something. The wine list was a bit limited but with only 5/6 rooms ...? In fact, the normal criteria do not apply....

Review 85:The house is astonishing; the people running it are lovely. The dinner cooked for us was excellent. The enterprise is a touch eccentric but that is part of its great charm. The normal criteria do not apply. This is a stunningly lovely place and were there a mark of 11 out of 10, it would merit it.

Review 86:I arrived at Ashley Park House on Friday 31 May 2013. I was welcomed by Sean Mounsey, a 91 years young gentleman who kindly made tea for me. He gently told me the story of Ashley Park House, the various renovations, the walled gardens, the fairy forts, the 300 year old trees and suggested I take the boat out on the lake. Sean is an amazing man who tells of his purchase of the house and his renovations of it throughout the years. I was free to explore the grounds and various walks down through the paddocks to view the horses and foals, the swans on Lough Ourna, or to sit in the gazebo just looking and enjoying the various plants and flowers in the walled garden. Margaret prepared a four course meal with wine for me which was made with local produce and was sheer heaven and excellent value for money. Margaret also showed me some of the other guest rooms with elegant furniture - sheer luxury. I was allocated the "President's Room", it is beautiful with a huge brass bed with crisp bed linen. It has an electric blanket and has magically views of the lake. The room is very spacious but warm and cosy. The heating throughout the house is just perfect. The next morning after the best nights sleep in a long time, Sinead prepared what can only be called a feast for breakfast - nothing was too much trouble. Again excellent value for money. I loved my stay at Ashley Park House with the original stained glass windows, the china plates, antique clock, persian carpets, beautiful furniture - it is a total gem of peace and quiet away from the stresses of life, a place where you can enjoy the gentleness of another era. I would like to thank Sean, Margaret, Sinead and all the staff at Ashley Park House for a magical stay and would absolutely recommend you stay if you are looking for that special place where you are treated like royalty.....I will be back in the near future.

Review 87:We arrived on a crisp April evening to this delightful period house. The house has been tastefully restored and the process of improvement of the gardens is on going. The house is warm (there is no skimping on central heating). Our hostess and staff were welcoming, helpful and professional. On arrival we relished complimentary afternoon tea in front of an open fire,we strolled through the many paths skirting the lake and later enjoyed delicious freshly cooked food for dinner. Our room was warm , spacious and bright with crisp white bed linen.A lovely place to retreat to.

Review 88:Everything about Ashley Park House was fantastic. The staff were very knowledgeble about the history of the house. The house, furnishings, grounds, and views were beautiful. The breakfast and dinner were excellent. I would highly recommend Ashley Park House.

Review 89:Stormy night so I was really afraid being on my own in big old house. Branches falling on house had me completely shaken. Following night was fabulous.

Review 90:The most interesting place I have ever stayed in. Decore was antique style. Room amazing with little anex off it with 2 chairs to watch telly. Antique? Bed really high and had electric blanket. Breakfast served in the most beautiful room.

Review 91:It was a quiet and lovely place to relax. Enjoyed walks in the grounds. The staff were friendly and helpful and Sean is a character. I will make every effort to stay there again.

Review 92:Our bathroom toilet needs help- dripped house needs increased water pressure.

Review 93:The feeling of being in a manor from the 1700-1800 centuries! Very gracious and accommodating staff. Fabulous surroundings- and wonderful history. Superb. Would like it if there was a pamphlet explaining in detail the original use/inhabitants and then the present owners background.

Review 94:I especially loved the very superior bed linen, the open fire in the drawing room and the wonderful breakfast. I peeked into the most lavish bedroom (where an open fire is a feasible option) and would love to go back to stay in it.

Review 95:Location, house, history and grounds.

Review 96:We liked everything. It was a great experience and we would recommend it to anyone.
