Reviews for Shiv Niwas Palace - Grand Heritage
Review 1:we got free upgrade to suite room with AMAZING VIEW. Staff was really great. Specially. Mod singh , Sohanlal , Bajrangilal from Restaurant. Amazing food with Amazing service.
Review 2:We have stayed at the Lalit and Leela in the past and thought the rooms didn't live up to the cost.
Review 3:Hospitality of the staff, made our wedding anniversary very special. Also took care of our needs, for example - they packed us an early morning breakfast(5 am) to carry to the airport coz we had an early return flight. We got a beautiful hand made card from the lady in charge(Lovely) along with a bouquet and cake delivered to the room. Mr Sohan Lal at the Paantya restaurant also deserves a special mention for being extremely hospitable and serving us delicious food! The Gosht biryani was amazing!
Review 4:The managerial staff need to be more courteous and friendly. I am not sure all the rooms shown on the website are actually available to rent, we asked for an upgrade and although the hotel was not busy none of the magnificent rooms pictured were available.
Review 5:The domestic staff were delightful, however the staff in the restaurant serving breakfast including the manager were rather unfriendly and brusque. Some of the reception staff were also curt (again not the more junior staff). The Palace is a delightful place to stay, in a great location with wonderful views of the lake.
Review 6:The room decor is all very dated and wearing and I would say is the worst value for money we have had in India. If can afford it don't waste your time with any other room than the suites as they are the only rooms with a view.
Review 7:The view from suite rooms is incredible and truly special at sunset.
Review 8:The rooms that they show online are of a much higher standard than what was actually sold. We were told that we were receiving a flash sale rate - but even the sale price was above the quality of the rooms and room location themselves.
Review 9:The location was great. The breakfast room was nice and peaceful and the Italian café was lovely.
Review 10:The standard rooms are not particularly interesting with small windows with views to the city, but not to the lake, as expected. In fact it is difficult to get a view to the lake from anywhere in the hotel. In the end it is not as special as the price of the hotel suggests it should be.
Review 11:The location is excellent and your key card allows you passage through areas that are restricted to the general public.
Review 12:- Slightly overpriced but only just.
Review 13:- Feel like your staying in a part of history. Location is superb. - I'd describe more as heritage than luxury hotel - it has a marvellous charm to it. - Great spa at excellent price. - Warm, hospitable staff. - Nice food.
Review 14:the only crib they had was more like a bassinet. Would have been ok for a newborn, but older infants will need to bring their own.
Review 15:Charming rooms. Friendly staff.
Review 16:Strongly don`t recommend this hotel. Shiv Niwas Palace charge as a 5 star hotel but it's more like a cheap motel. We found a cockroach in our room, the staff is unprofessional and unfriendly, bathrooms are not clean. All the surroundings are not adequately repaired. In short, the owners should invest in better management. Definitely not a good value for what we spent.
Review 17:Good location and a great view
Review 18:Pool closes at 6pm, thats too early. No other sports activity for young and grown up people. Billiards table and squash courts are only name sake. cannot use them, rather they are unusable. Managment must revive them ASAP, as Udaipur ia a holiday destination and so families travelling are more. WIFI connects only 2-3 devices.
Review 19:Excellent location, wonderful Grand Palace stay, admirable ambiance. Co-oprative staff. Wonderful kings breakfast. Beautiful landscape, of course its a "Palace"
Review 20:Best thing about the Shiv Niwas is its history and associated location. We stayed in a terrace suite and had the best view in all Udaipur during our stay. Staff were amazingly helpful and warm.
Review 21:The pillows were too soft and needs to be replaced. Hand towels have seen better days and needs to be replaced. Buffet breakfast should be made available.
Review 22:We got an upgrade to a suite with Lake view, complimentary birthday cake and flowers
Review 23:Very expensive for what was a small room. Cost of the additional bed alone was more than we paid for whole stay for 5 people in 2 rooms at previous hotel. We weren't made aware of this prior to arrival (no response to booking request).
Review 24:Great location as part of the City palace complex. Overall feel of hotel is good, although very formal. Great size pool, lots of sunbeds, polite and helpful staff. Liked separate seating area with the room even if corridor shape, and a little small. Wifi worked well in the room.
Review 25:When I arrived ( although very tired) and saw the Reception area I thought "oh" and it didn't seem to do justice to the rest of the hotel.( although the staff were great). Didn't like the locks on the room doors - had lots of trouble opening!
Review 26:The architecture, history and ambiance was just wonderful. The staff delightful and engaging Provided an insight into the days of the Raj - history recreated.
Review 27:I wish their service were up to the standards of a palace. The staff in restaurants is grouchy and the food left us with an upset stomach.
Review 28:The only thing going for this place is its strategic location and view from the cafe
Review 29:Request for service from staff were tardy at times.
Review 30:The buffet breakfast offering was amazing - smoked salmon was something I've been craving for and to find it in Udaipur was an excitment on its own right. The views from the palace suites were amazing from the terraces and we couldn't ask for a better place to stay at
Review 31:This is a beautiful facility and atmosphere for those who choose unique charm over look-alike hotels. Our room had a gorgeous view of the lake and was a lovely respite from the hectic sensory overload of India.
Review 32:Standard twin room is not value for money, suite might be good though!
Review 33:The hotel is right next to the palace and other attraction. Hotel offer very nice lake cruise. Food and environment at the restaurant is great!
Review 34:No value for money at all
Review 35:Except location, which is the strongest point.. everything else is bad. Speciall the rooms are located as if we were staying in servant quarters..!
Review 36:rooms are not as in the pictures and tiny floors were dirty staff at breakfast had a lot of attitude not friendly we were there during a wedding and couldnt sleep 2 of 3 nights, music was played until 4 in the morning
Review 37:great location of the hotel
Review 38:For the room we booked which is the royal suite, the bed is made with steel and uses two bed combined into one, which is out of the standard, should have provide a better bed which is a palace shoud.
Review 39:Perfect location, heritage palace, friendly staffs, they also gave us a bottle of Aussie wine for honeymoon present! And flowers! Thanks for that!
Review 40:Extremely expensive for the level of quality offered. At our arrival, the hotel manager asked us to pay €157 each for a 'mandatory event' on 31-Dec (specified at our booking, with no price indication), which is unacceptable for such a category of hotel. Thanks to the kindness of Ms. Alka we have been able to solve the issue and not pay / participate to such event.
Review 41:Great position - within the old city, very silent and walking distance to eveything.
Review 42:The room however has seen better days. It was tired looking and not what I expected from such an establishment.
Review 43:The palace hotel is gorgeous and undoubtedly an ideal location to stay. The staff was so courteous and always on hand to answer questions. The included breakfast was very nice and the view and location befits the grandeur of the palace. Again, staff very courteous and do their jobs to perfection.
Review 44:The attitude and expectations of other guests.
Review 45:The hotel's position, in The City Palace complex is wonderful, an escape from the hustle and bustle. The staff, the room and facilities are what you would expect from such an address, and readily met our expectations.
Review 46:The restaurant is not that good for the price (we had breakfast and lunch and they were not appropriate for the price). the main reason why I'm recommending not to go to this hotel is because of the service and of the impolite stuff. When we arrived at the hotel they asked the advanced payment (no problem) but their wifi was not warking and so we were unable to pay with card.... they told us that it was not their problem and they sent us BY WALK 2 KM AWAY to get money at a cash machine (of course the card worked!!!)... when we arrived back with money they even say 'excuse' .... a five star hotel should in this case provide a car or something or at least let you in the room and ask for money later... we were feeling very bad after this experience... feeling like not welcome... the men that was the most impolite at the reception (the one that sent us at the cash machine) never told me 'hello' or 'good morning' when he used to meet me in the hotel the following days. we have travelled all the rajasthan in 5 star hotel and this was really really the worst!!!!
Review 47:the hotel is very beautiful, and also the rooms (we had a terrace suite) are spacious. the pool of the hotel is probably one of the most beautiful pool ever and the hotel is situated few steps within all the main attractions of the city.
Review 48:We initially booked this heritage hotel for couple of nights as we thought it would be nice to end our Rajasthan trip with a feeling of staying in a palace where maharana lived and time travel in those days of maharana but eventually we liked this heritage property so much that we extended our stay for one more night. The hotel is in superb location and staffs were very well mannered. I would recommend others to stay in here in your next udaipur visit.
Review 49:Still figuring it out :)
Review 50:We really enjoyed our stay @ Shiv Niwas palace . Its location anproximity to City Palace , Jagdish temple , Lake pichola , Sunsetrestaurant , crystal gallery is a big big plus. The services , staff ,food , ambience everything was Awesome !!!
Review 51:The room furniture upholstery soiled and lamp shades worn out.
Review 52:The palace, pool area, bar excellent.
Review 53:Poorly maintained, hugely overpriced for what they offer. The old glory is gone.
Review 54:Location.
Review 55:The lake view rooms are stunning but the others are basic and not worth it. So splash out (a lot!) for the best or go elsewhere
Review 56:None
Review 57:excellent Hospitality, courteous staff, polite and perfect service
Review 58:there was nothing I didn't like.
Review 59:Lovely, quiet, great food, huge room. Spa massage was great. Wonderful staff.
Review 60:Weird WiFi, very out of date now. No up gradation or maintenance done. Looks dated and not as HRH properties are reputed to be.
Review 61:Location is perfect
Review 62:Incredible location Staff treated us very well
Review 63:The setting was superb, very beautiful. The staff were helpful and the room was clean.
Review 64:nothing faselity in property

Review 67:excellent location, very good service and courteous staff. Great food.
Review 68:Great hotel with lots of character
Review 69:Excellent location, good service. Free WIFI is very convenient for business trip.
Review 70:The wifi was not working. The breakfast is not great.
Review 71:The hotel was great. It was a real palace. The rooms were comfortable and clean.
Review 72:All fantastic
Review 73:Breakfast,
Review 74:Location, Indian restaurant, service
Review 75:View from room&hospitality
Review 76:Food good, location exceptional
Review 77:We had chance to be upgraded. ..very good. Situation is perfect.
Review 78:Feel like the King overlooking the lake, befect view, great art of the room, big space, friendlyness of the stuff
Review 79:Nothing
Review 80:Kindess if staff and you cannot have a better location.. We really enjoyed the lake view restaurant
Review 81:Not heritage. Average view.
Review 82:Good rooms Excellent staff.
Review 83:Super location, depending on room with nice lake view. Very nice hotel, very helpful and friendly staff.
Review 84:Everything
Review 85:The location of this place is fabulous...!
Review 86:Swimming pool and the spa were disappointing.
Review 87:One of the best views in udaipur. In the palace complex. The best breakfast of my vacarias.
Review 88:The staff
Review 89:Relatively small rooms
Review 90:Location next to City Palace allows you with your security card to stroll around before the masses come, nice restaurant, good quality of meals ,very friendly staff
Review 91:All in all it was a good decision to stay at this hotel. The location is very convenient. After the check in procedure, which was a little bit hard, because the staff could not find our reservation in the beginning, the service was very good. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Review 92:This hotel is a disgrace for service in India. First the rates are misleading because they are intended for "solo" travelers and once you arrive they charge you DOUBLE the price. The service staff is arrogant and unhelpful, not only within the hotel, but throughout the palace - and those who were nice told you to go elsewhere because the hotel is very bad value for money. The hotel has luxuries good for 1990 (a facsimile form, a video door intercom, a huge wooden closet), but the pillows have holes.
Review 93:You are in the city palace and if you complain a lot they'll give you a room with a view of the lake.
Review 94:The wifi requires a 16 digit code which changes daily!!! added to which wifi is variable. The hotel also owns an island where one can have dinner. This is also used for weddings so for 2 nights there was cacophony until gone 1 in the morning. Not only bad for guests at the hotel but also an indication of how seriously the idea of being a good neighbour is taken
Review 95:The location, the daily renditions of the pipe band.
Review 96:Unhelpful, incompetent, rude staff at the front desk. No coordination with Jagmandir, a sister hotel. People tried to make a buck, knowing that travelers dislike haggling on holiday.
Review 97:The lake view was nice. Good staff at the restaurant.
Review 98:Hotel needs updating, the bathroom was very poor. Admittedly the shower was good but the overall first appearance was sad. The king needs to spend money on the outside appearance, paint is flaking of the walls.
Review 99:Room was comfortable and a nice size. Staff were helpful, food was of a good standard.
Review 100:When we arrived our first impression was not good. Unfortunately we had dead flowers put around our necks and shown to their rather gloomy, small dark standard double rooms which I would not recommend. However after complaining they moved us and we had an excellent stay with our adult children and friends.
Review 101:The hotel was in a good location and the swimming pool area was lovely. The staff were extremely helpful especially as initially our room was not up to standard and they moved us to a lovely room with lake views. I would recommend the hotel and stay there again but not in their standard rooms.
Review 102:nothing!
Review 103:History, peace and quiet, unique setting, tranquility. The step well experience was superb. Highly recommend for an individual, romantic and authentic experience. Soulful.
Review 104:Pool was icy cold. Could not even put feet in water.
Review 105:Centrally located. A quiet oasis from the busy center. Breakfast buffet is wonderful with a nice view from the window nook. We had a very relaxed stay at this hotel.
Review 106:Some security guards, some reception staff and the room with two singlehard beds when I booked one double bed and the room not facing any viewjust the road ,and the room they have chosen to give me when I decidedto stay from 25th to 2nd quiet long time ( where people generally juststay two nights )they should have given me better room which I deserve Ithink and inside from room smallest balcony with full of huge pipe linesall sorts of I .mean with a broken door if one wants to enter throughthose pipe line inside room it won't be difficult ,room no.24.to goto main gate hotel arranged small jeeps but never the drivers droppedand they just sit idle or lazy or what not I have no idea and theyrefused once ,twice after that I stopped asking them, and I hardly stayedinthe room just for sleepin late mid night to morning I use to be in theroom.I Feel owner has to involve to know things what is happening .
Review 107:Room service staff very good . reception when I just entered goodwelcoming drink and with lots of flowers very welcoming Every day fruitsand chocolates good night card ,sufficient mineral water safe place forwoman ,location ,good shampoo.conditioner, round the clock the clock hotwater excellent ,on new years day sparkling wine for two people, twocakes all this small things made me feel great.Mr. Subramanayam manager, and one reception gal I think her name is Deepa though I am not verysure of her name are the best in the reception
Review 108:It was a good decision to stay at this hotel. The location is very convenient, the service is very good. Staff was very helpful. We will stay again at this hotel.
Review 109:Extortionate minibar prices (but what else would you expect?), finicky WiFi login requires a unique code for each device (free from reception desk, though).
Review 110:Beautiful room with excellent bath and bed, amazing terrace with view over the lake. Attentive and friendly staff. Incredible location in a genuine palace.
Review 111:Bit old fashioned.
Review 112:Super location. Great swimming pool on James Bond site from Octopussy. Proximity of Udaipur City Palace. Grandeur of Maharaja. Unforgettable.
Review 113:Rooms were small and looked like staff quarters specially the size ,main building is still under Current Raja, Security guards were veru rude.
Review 114:Location was excellent
Review 115:Location is the best for this price range.Nice Royal feeling.
Review 116:ALL IT WAS SUPERB.
Review 117:We should have gone for the terrace suite instead of the room
Review 118:The palace was beautiful and conveniently located.
Review 119:The rooms are not the value for money... too small for 11000 a night, not grand as the location.
Review 120:Location and the place.
Review 121:wonderful experience!
Review 122:Beautiful hotel and very helpful, professional staff.
Review 123:The hotel looks old and tired, especially the rooms, which really need a decor upgrade.
Review 124:Perfect location, well explored with a terrace restaurant.
