Reviews for Jagat Niwas Palace

Review 1:Bad wifi. Cuts out every 10 minutes in the bedroom. Best at reception area. Very frustrating.

Review 2:Everything. Good international menu. Breakfast extra. Polite smiling staff. Always busy and booked. Wonderful architecture as it is a heritage hotel.

Review 3:The front desk was less than helpful. Simple questions and recommendations were left with us wondering if they even wanted us to be guests at their hotel. As a tourist wanting to explore, you would think they would be helpful to point out places to see or avoid. This was not the experience we had. The worst was asking to break currency. On three different occasions, to three different front desk staff members, I had asked to break change. Once was a 500 rupee note and twice was for 100 notes. All three times they refused. We had been traveling for two weeks in 6 other cities and this was never an issue until we arrived at Jagat Niwas Palace. As a tourist traveling in an unfamiliar location, this was not the most welcoming of experiences.

Review 4:The location was great. Jagat Niwas Palace is located right on the water and the view from our room was amazing. The bellmen and restaurant staff were great; very helpful with recommendations and extremely friendly.

Review 5:We had to wait for a long time for the keys to check-in. Foreigners were given preference. Rooms were okay. Restaurant rates are exorbitantly high and only cash payment if the amount is less than 1000. Water would take 1 hour to heat.

Review 6:Nice view of the lake from top. Nice and clean hotel.

Review 7:There is nothing not to like. Lovely place.

Review 8:It's a beautiful property in the heart if lal ghat with extremely friendly and helpful staff and very well maintained rooms and property. Had the mutton masala and the papa paneer and they were just awesome. The roof top restaurant in the night is divine. Maintained and managed by a descendant of the mewar dynasty this probably the only true haveli type hotel. The prices are also very reasonable...in fact too reasonable.

Review 9:The restaurant food a little expensive for an average quality but really minor to how wonderful this hotel is.

Review 10:Everything....but to mention highlight - Spectacular views from restaurant and rooms, attentive well trained staff, clean, comfortable, interesting rooms, well maintained property, great location, sensational value for money. THE best 'kept secret and find' in india and I have been travelling extensively in india for 5 years.

Review 11:It cannot be accessed by car, you need to walk a bit.

Review 12:The location can't be beat. The views from the rooftop restaurant are the best in town. The staff is nice, the rooms are comfortable.

Review 13:Facilities in need of renovation. Restaurant quite disappointing and staff not very attent. Wifi, like almost anywhere in India, could be improved.

Review 14:Good location and a lovely building.

Review 15:Having to walk through all of the sales guys/ touts as soon as you walked out of the hotel. To be expected but as a westerner you sometimes don't want to have to deal with it!

Review 16:The room was beautiful with a daybed window seat and views of the Lake Palace. Sunrise and sunset were amazing! The rooftop restaurant was great and so convenient. The building itself was stunning and such a lovely place to spend time in.

Review 17:My only complaint is the hot showers that run out just too quickly. Rather unacceptable for an establishment of this standard to not fix this small issue.

Review 18:We stayed at Jagat Niwas as the accommodation of our last leg of a 10-day-long trip to Rajasthan and what a nice way to end it! It's everything that I would expect of a classy establishment of this price point. The place is nicely decorated, rooms are beautiful and nicely appointed. Staff are attentive though I thought were a little cold at first. We had a really nice time just lazing at one of those comfy balconies with cushions overlooking the lake, enjoying breakfast or an afternoon nap.

Review 19:This is two of the best places we stayed while we visited Indian. It is great value for money. Me and my friends are all surprised to find it so nice and comfortable.

Review 20:Need better instructions on getting to the property, for those driving to Udaipur

Review 21:Traditional haveli feeling, tastefully decorated, friendly staff, comfortable rooms, right in the heart of the city ... Best of all, right on Lake Pichola

Review 22:there is no parking space

Review 23:outstanding room, extraordinary view over the lake, extremely clean room, superb furniture and decor. you must opt for the raj room.

Review 24:Jagat Niwas is one place that I would recommend to everybody who wants to experience a true blue royal experience in a 17th century Haveli. The rooms are comfortable, the views stunning and the food tasty!

Review 25:Its hectic to cross the narrow and crowded streets by four wheeler during day time. Its better to take tuk-tuk for sightseeing. Food... not that great.

Review 26:This is an old haveli converted in to the hotel. Located on the bank of lake pichola, the best location. From the roof top restaurant you can see beautiful views of lake and lake palace.

Review 27:It is a great place - - first of all location, and the architecture: being in this hotel you already see the best of Udaipur, the more famous tourist places such as Lake Palace do not surprise you anymore. Hotel in style, hotel to remember, not just the pace to spend couple of nights.

Review 28:The basic amenities are not there. Kettle is not there, television is just for the sake and room size and bathroom are very small.

Review 29:Location wise hotel is very good and view is also very good.

Review 30:I found the breakfast and food to be bit expensive. But I don't want to complain on that as I ate at a very nearby restaurant with decent pricing and yummy taste.

Review 31:The location is SPOT ON. The hotel itself is very beautiful and one can have a beautiful view of the Pichola lake when having breakfast at the restaurant.

Review 32:Somewhat cool, "impersonal" style of the staff, in line with what I rather expect of large chain hotels.

Review 33:Excellent location, right near lake access and just off City Palace. Great haveli architecture building with lots of character. Restaurant with stunning lake view offers plenty of choice also for less Indian-only-veg-food inclined travellers.

Review 34:For those with mobility problems they may struggle with the stairs to get to and from the restaurant. We asked if the management could provide one of our rooms on the ground floor so my mum could avoid stairs but they weren't able to help which was disappointing.

Review 35:Beautiful location with views of the Lake Palace from the restaurant and roof top terrace. Nice large rooms. Good service. The hotel let us have our meals in the courtyard as my 77 year old mum couldn't manage to get up the stairs to the restaurant.

Review 36:The biggest issue is the lack of a lift to access the higher floors -this is a real challenge for the elderly and those who have difficulty climbing tall steps. The narrow approach road makes it difficult to access in larger vehicles - we had to transfer to auto rickshaws for the last km, which was not a big deal with their amazing luggage capacity.

Review 37:Charming little hotel with gorgeous lake views. It was truly delightful to have meals or enjoy a beer in the restaurant on the 3rd floor with it's commanding views of the Lake and surrounding properties. Close to key attractions like City Palace, Jagdish Mandir, etc. 15 minute walk to the famous Ambrai restaurant at Ameth Haveli. Very well decorated in ethnic motifs and spotlessly clean. The rooms were comfortable albeit with old style fittings and furniture, and updated bathrooms. The RAJ rooms were best with large windows overlooking the Lake.

Review 38:No bad experiences but for we older people there are a lot of steps to negotiate!!

Review 39:Stunning views across the lake. Great appearance within the hotel. Well maintained and staff helpful . Loved the roof top restaurant.

Review 40:Beautiful hotel in a wonderful position. If you can afford to, go for a waterfront room. The location is too good not to. The staff are lovely as is the restaurant.

Review 41:the location was excellent in providing a stunning view of the lake as well as it's proximity to the palace and an interesting Hindu temple. unfortunately, the narrow streets make it impossible to reach by car, and the motorcycles and tuck-Turks make walking risky.

Review 42:The prices in restaurant are really high. There are lot of restaurants nearby with reasonable price and great food / drinks and also the view.

Review 43:Everything was really good. Room was nice and clean, AC worked as it should. Hotel is stylish and location is amazing- you can enjoy your stay with the view on the lake. Bathroom was big and comfortable with additional free toiletries.

Review 44:The overpriced inferior food and indifferent restaurant staff spoiled what should have been a perfect stay. Luckily one can choose to eat out.

Review 45:Breathtaking position on the lake. Views excellent. Rooms comfortable. Good value for money.

Review 46:There was road block on the day we had to visit due to Moharam. We did not get prior intimation from the hotel. We lost like 1 hour to reach the hotel in alternate routes with the help of hotel staff. I guess it was not in their control either.

Review 47:This 17th century jharokha palace is simply awesome. Facing scenic lake pichola and offering jharokas and relaxed diwana seating arrangement was very relaxing and unwinding, especially in the night with the lake and interiors illuminating. Bagalon ki haveli, Udaipur palace, sunset point, Jagadish temple.. Every thing in proximity.

Review 48:The wifi connection was poor and only one device could be connected at any time.

Review 49:Great location and lovely heritage hotel. Rooms were clean and view from the rooftop was amazing.

Review 50:Only very minor complaint was low water pressure in the shower

Review 51:The location right on the lake with views of the water and palaces. Restaurant with views and breeze for the day and rooftop for dinner. Day bed in front of the window to relax.

Review 52:The only negative is the approach to the hotel. As the roads are very narrow and winding, cars don't always come all the way up.

Review 53:Jagat Niwas is an absolute Jem of a hotel. Total value for money. It has the most amazing location, overlooking Lake Pichola. The rooms are very well appointed, spacious and clean. Bathrooms have modern bath fittings and very clean. The rooms are done up in earthy indian tones, definitely one of the best 'Haveli' style hotels I have stayed at. Cannot wait to visit again, absolutely loved my time here.

Review 54:Great view at the lake view room and the restaurant! The staff here is very helpful. There is a store near the reception where we could rent a car to Jodhpur.

Review 55:It was a little expensive, especially as breakfast was not included and even an extra cup of coffee and tea was added to the bill.

Review 56:The location provides stunning views. The room was both comfortable and attractive. We loved dining with the view of the Lake Palace in the little balconies without windows which allowed a lovely breeze. Although we arrive early, they allowed us to check in early.

Review 57:The staff were very helpful. Fantastic Indian food served on the balcony overlooking the lake. Our bedroom was in character and genuinely old. Loved it all!

Review 58:I orderd Indian food like Dal Makahani and paneer....which was OK and not that superb. Although I didnt order any other cuisine, so cant say about that. Other than that, the place was fantastic.

Review 59:The Location, the value for money, the staff behavior and overall hotel structure. The hotel is a heritage hotel which is beautifully built and all painted in white. It is situated on the Pichola lake and offers stunning views of the lake. Dinner a the Roof top restaurant is a treat where one can enjoy the meal overlooking the Taj lake palace and lake pichola. Would recommend this place 9/10.

Review 60:- beware: the 1st night will be charged on the credit card you indicated in your booking the day BEFORE you arrive at the hotel...

Review 61:- fabulous location very close to the Jagdish Temple - quiet place - great view from the terrace - suite rooms are really nice and comfortable with view on the Pichola lake

Review 62:Wifi was not great in our room. Breakfast could definitely be improved - however all other meals were fantastic.

Review 63:Location is great! Literally a two minute minute walk to the city palace - fabulous view of the lake. The most beautiful little shops right outside the door and hidden down a gorgeous friendly lane way on the lake. The staff were so friendly and helpful! Would stay here again and again. Also organised a driver from udaipur to jodphur - great price and lovely driver :)

Review 64:The location though very central is difficult to reach because of narrow lanes where traffic jams can occur.

Review 65:Very well maintained property. Its a traditional "Haveli" that is converted into a hotel. The staff are very polite and helpful. Its situated on the bank of Lake Fatehsagar wth stunning views of the lake in daytime and night. Its not far from Airport and Train station either. The traditional Indian breakfast was really well made and tasty.

Review 66:Beautiful place where you can spend your time in Udaipur! The most impressive thing was the sunset from the rooftop really amazing! Nice room good price and delicious restaurant!

Review 67:Approach roads are very small and little difficult to locate hotel. But I think most of hotels in there have same problem.

Review 68:Restaurant is really good and food quality was also good. Staff is also good and helpful. Most of places are at walking distance.

Review 69:Should include breakfast in the price, even if it is just a simple continental breakfast. Besides that, I enjoyed my stay a lot!

Review 70:Nice place, beautiful building and location, charming rooms and sitting areas. Very helpful and friendly staff.

Review 71:Wifi not available in rooms. Rooms would need a refreshment.

Review 72:Perfect location next to Pichola lake. Superb restaurant with excellent views to the lake and the palace. Good food.

Review 73:This was a beautiful hotel, decorated in a traditional style with lots of little courtyards. We had a very large room which could fit two adults and two teenagers comfortably making it very affordable. The hotel is a little way from the centre but in a fascinating area. We watched lawyers and business people doing property transactions under a series of corrugated porches. The highlight was the food. The best of any of the hotels we stayed in during our three weeks. The breakfast in particular was excellent with a chef in the dinning room to cook your eggs as you liked them and plenty of Indian and Continental options.

Review 74:Restaurant expensive and not that good. Staff not friendly Very difficult to reach the hotel by car, we had to take a tuktuk and it was hard because of the luggage.

Review 75:The amazing view from the suite Pichola and from the restaurant The hotel is beautiful Bathroom very big, clean, with hot water.

Review 76:staying at jagat palace niwas was a life time experience for us.... this place makes you feel like royalty. ambience, interiors, food, service staff...etc etc everything is of highest rank...my room was lake facing and fresh breeze pouring in from lake pichola busted all the stress gathered from hectic work life within minutes. staff is extremely polite and cooperative. it is situated on the banks of pichola .... very close to city palace and jagdeesh temple. a stroll around jagat niwas will transport you to trans....

Review 77:Freezing aircon water leaked on me in the night, when I went to lobby to rectify, multiple staff members asleep on lobby floor. Hotel should provide staff quarters. Restaurant overpriced.

Review 78:Pretty room, great location

Review 79:Be wary of taxi's from the airport claiming that they cannot drive all the way down to the lal ghat - this is not true and just laziness on the part of the driver, true it gets congested on the small roads but 'just a five minute walk down this street - left then right, then left' with luggage in tow and no idea where we were going didn't impress me - but this was no fault of Jagat Niwas.

Review 80:The Location is only bettered by one or two places in Udaipur and the value can be bettered by none! A room with an enclosed balcony with views across the lake is highly recommended, the hotel is a beautifully restored property and has an air of magic as does the whole of Udaipur, spent 5 very happy days there and could happily spend many more weeks and months there!

Review 81:The way to go the hotel is kind of hard to find. Anyway you will get the good experience in this hotel

Review 82:What the beautiful hotel, I love the style and decorated. Rooftop view is nice. All staff is performing in their duty. The room is fastastic.

Review 83:Breakfast wasn't included and it was a little bit too expensive in my opinion.

Review 84:Beautiful hotel, very beautiful view on the lake, good restaurant, kind staff, central position

Review 85:The room service staff was a bit impolite. I asked for an extra chair so I can sit at the door and enjoy the weather , and i was refused . Visitors are not allowed in the room. This was my 6 tour to udaipur and I ve a fair number of friends there. I don't know why hotels have this rule... Why I can't have a friend visit me ? If the hotel think the guests are involved in any hanky-panky stuff, they shouldn't have them at all.

Review 86:The ambience was charming , the cleanliness was remarkable. The front desk staff was helpful.

Review 87:No parking place for guest vehicles. No place to stay for driver Steep stairs for Resturent cause problem with old parents & small kids Accessibility is the issue due narrow turning streets

Review 88:Clean, well maintained property with nice view of Pichola Lake

Review 89:agreed price to keep the room for a bit longer the next day but it was more when we went to check out. Food was expensive and not very nice.

Review 90:Room and location were ok.

Review 91:First of all one can not reach the property easily .. Car can not go up to the hotel . Rooms are ordiner and food is very expensive. One bottle of water costs 75 INR . Breakfast is not complimentary. No provision for a cup of tea in the rooms

Review 92:Location is superb . One can enjoy fresh air and sight of lake pichola at night from roof top of the hotel

Review 93:Room tariff that I paid even with high discounts offered by Booking.com and the room provided is not justifiable. Once can get far better quality rooms in the same location (really adjacent) for the same amount that I paid. If the room allocated was facing the lake and had windows / views that give an outside view, then possibly it would have been worthwhile

Review 94:The location of the hotel is excellent

Review 95:Restaurant at Jagat. Food service needs improvement in restaurant

Review 96:excellent location. The lake facing rooms with Jharokas are simply awesome. The sight seeing options are at walkable distance. Always willing to listen and act on the suggestions.

Review 97:I liked everything as it was a heritage experience and would like to have a visit with family and friends.

Review 98:Very nice ! It's a leisure of heritage look ! Very much comfortable and kind of all types of services was excellent ! Looking forward to have a visit 2 nd time in near future.-thanks

Review 99:Got a room outside the haveli, which seems like a new addition, so could not enjoy the charm of the property.

Review 100:Lovely heritage property, fantastic location

Review 101:Two single beds were joined to make a double bed, was very uncomfortable, Should have small refrigerator to accommodate water and drinks, complementary tea or coffee should be there.

Review 102:Location, ambience, staff, Food are awesome. Need to have some things. Staff is very supportive.

Review 103:The only issue was wi-fi connection.

Review 104:The location of the hotel, the food ,the staff. The most amazing place about the hotel is its location(right next to Lake Pichola) and the view from the hotel. The restaurant ambience is just awesome and one of the best I have visited till date with restaurant giving you an absolutely beautiful view of Lake Pichola from the roof top. Great place for couples as well as friends. Would definitely visit it again if i come back to udaipur.

Review 105:The only negative was that I was not served dinner after waiting for around an 1 hour. I eventually left and went somewhere else.

Review 106:The location is fantastic and the place has a really nice relaxed feel to it.

Review 107:Food was kind of Ok, Not very great. One thing what I didn't like about the hotel was, restaurant closes at 10:30 sharp. Just because of this we had to come to hotel early and have dinner before 10:30 pm..

Review 108:Very cozy atmosphere, just list a big house, amazing view of lake pichola. Couldn't be better than this for this price. Very comfortable beds, clean rooms, prompt room service.

Review 109:Breakfast not included in roommate. The wifi was slow and unreliable.

Review 110:The location on the lakeside was perfect. Glorious views from the rooftop restaurant. Friendly, helpful staff. Spotlessly clean room. Nice food. I can heartily recommend this hotel.

Review 111:Service in the restaurant was lacking, and it seemed rather overpriced, which is why we didn't eat there. Cocktails were disappointing. Overall, room for improvement in the restaurant.

Review 112:We really liked the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff, the room was clean and spacious and the look of the hotel and view on the lake were really nice.

Review 113:hot water boiler in room needed maintenance as I couldn't get it to work.

Review 114:Flexibility of management, let me check out late for free. Beautiful views from restaurant.

Review 115:No view from our room, quite expensive. Note to movie lovers - this is not a Best Exotic Marigold Hotel location despite what you might have read online.

Review 116:Lovely views from the restaurant, good staff and comfortable rooms.

Review 117:Would have been nice for breakfast to be included in hotel stay.

Review 118:Great hotel, wish I could have stayed longer! Beautiful hotel and the hotel manager was very welcoming and very attentive to new guests, making our stay extra special.

Review 119:When ordering breakfast, I ordered the English Breakfast (which inc. sausage and bacon). The delivery of the breakfast was made and I questioned the lack of sausage and bacon, which seemed a surprise to the waiter. It wasn't the cheapest breakfast and no compromise on price was made despite the lack of items being available!

Review 120:The travel agent next door. He was immense. His name is Manish- he sorted all our trains and itinerary for India in about 30 minutes. The views out over the lake, surrounding hills and city palace at breakfast and dinner are stunning. The Indian food is pretty good. It's a stunning haveli

Review 121:The beautiful building that is lovingly maintained by the team. The stupendous views of the lake from breezy alcoves. The friendly staff (one or two minor exceptions in the restaurant) The fantastic peaceful location away from the hurly burly of the streets. feeling safe and well cared for

Review 122:The restaurant staff was grumpy. They moved a single woman along from the rooftop bar/restaurant as the dinner hour approached...I suspect because a better tip could be expected from couples.

Review 123:Location

Review 124:The front desk staff were quite rude at times- I felt disprespected as a woman. My husband had better results when dealing with them, but I think that is just India for you unfourtunately.

Review 125:Most of the staff were lovely and helpful, and the food was amazing. The palace itself is stunning, with views to die for. Great location, and very close to the attraction City Palace and lots of great shopping near by.

Review 126:Restaurant is a little expensive but restaurants nearby are cheaper with the same lovely view.

Review 127:Lovely rooms, breakfast overlooking lake and lake palace, sunsets from the roof were great. Staff eager to please and very friendly. Tasteful decor with lovely wooden and brass furniture. Very near all the sites.

Review 128:I loved the view from our room, the Pichola Suite, to the lake, the tasteful decoration and furniture, the fabulous views from the roofterrace restaurant. We had a very enjoyable stay!

Review 129:We had a very bad experience with the staff. After dinner while paying they refused to take a banknote under the pretense that it had a different coloring. They basically accused us of having fake banknotes. The water heater in the bathroom wasn't working very well, there was barely any hot water. The WiFi was not working in the room. The room had only one window towards the courtyard, so it was very dark. This was the deluxe room, the standard room did not have any windows.

Review 130:The hotel is located on the side of the lake, the rooftop restaurant offers a very nice view.

Review 131:WiFi speed is low.

Review 132:The view from the lake side of the hotel is amazing. Eating on the roof - restaurant is recommended. The rooms are traditional - style and beautiful. The stuff is polite.

Review 133:The standard room assigned to us was somewhat small and could use a little freshening up.

Review 134:Beautiful waterfront palace at the heart of the old city. Close to the City Palace. The central stairs and courtyards are adorned by flowers and fountains. Very clean room and kind staff.

Review 135:We were wrongly informed by the hotel staff that the City Palace was closed on the day of our visit. Luckily we decided to visit it anyway. The hotel staff should be better informed. Breakfast is not included with the room and is quite pricey.

Review 136:The view of Lake Pichhola from our room was beautiful. Even the restaurant has views of the lake. Location is superb. We could walk to City Palace and Ganghaur Ghat. Moreover, there is a market right outside the hotel which hosts textiles, local art and craft, silver jewellery and leather goods. Food at the restaurant is good too.

Review 137:No heat, though that only maters a few weeks a year I guess. Wifi is just ok, but that's comon in India.

Review 138:Classic archatecture right by the palace, overlooking the water. Lovely, comfortable room, excellent restaurant, lots of places to sit and relax. Charming and lovely.
