Reviews for De Vere Venues Chicheley Hall

Review 1:Breakfast was a let down , no hot buffet so had to have what was prepared for us which arrived Luke warm , and we couldn't eat it as bacon and sausages were poor quality

Review 2:Fantastic location, room large and comfortable , with period features and a great view of the lake

Review 3:Most of the staff, not all of them were surly, slightly rude. Asian receptionist was difficult to understand, and robotic. One polish waiter was the rudest I have met, which made me angry because I payed a lot of money to stay there and eat there. There is no excuse for rudeness.

Review 4:Ambience, views and location. Old property with charm.

Review 5:Very noisy had a bedroom near the disco asked to be moved, but having book with Booking com and not the hotel managing company there was basically no chance .you will only get the rubbish rooms as there is no way to get a refund Dirty room, curtains ripped. The cooked breakfast was inedible. I spend seventy five percent of my working life in hotels, travel lodge is five star compared with this place.Don`t be fooled by the outside photos

Review 6:The out side and setting

Review 7:The Bedroom was very small for a Hotel of this "Stature" and COLD Central Heating was not on when we checked iin. A Heater had to be brought into the Room. The CH then came on in the middle of the night!! Breakfast was very basic, have had better

Review 8:The Building was VG, a bit of a "trek" to our Ground floor bedroom. Staff were helpful when called upon.

Review 9:Serious security breach when another guest entered my suite with his brass key. It was soon discovered 2 separate suites had been fitted with identical locks. The hotel did apology's profusely, promised to fix the mistake and offered a discount on our evening meal for the inconvenience.

Review 10:The location was impressive, amazing view from hotel suite. The grounds were immaculately kept. The reception were courteous and well presented. The experience as a whole was pleasurable.

Review 11:Bed very noisy kept rolling into middle of bed. Windows rattling in wind.dusty reception desk. Furniture in room very dated and worn.

Review 12:Nice bathroom. Good breakfast.

Review 13:The restaurant was closed with no advanced warning or mention on the website, only a bar menu available, from this most meals were unavailable, when the food did arrive to my room some 45 minutes later it was cold!! the Telephone in my room didn't work. The member of staff on duty, whilst apologetic was not really interested in my situation.

Review 14:Location

Review 15:Room was very small. Could not open window (nailed shut) and people walking along driveway could look straight into the small room

Review 16:Facinated by the history of the building, the old photos and the leftover details of the once manor house. The waiter kindly printed a write up of the history of the house for us. Beautiful gardens.

Review 17:Room smell sweaty , also very noisy, dirty coffee cups and dirty tissues on the floor! I was very disappointed as building and images looks very classy and historic.

Review 18:Friendly staff, specially receptionist Monika.

Review 19:The breakfast was not great with limited options. There are many theoretical physics talks, but these were not so great, and sometimes the speakers don't really seem to have many new things to say.

Review 20:Nice looking old building with well functioning internet

Review 21:Did not appreciate being made to wait on arrival (we were dropping off luggage and on our way out), whilst the poor receptionist had difficulty finding, and then deciphering my booking.com booking. The booking had omitted details she needed to book us in. She was great, and upgraded us for the trouble caused.

Review 22:The ambience of the hotel; the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff.

Review 23:No TV signal very poor

Review 24:Excellent Hotel honeymoon suite was amazing only let down was no TV reception as we weren't exactly honeymooners it would have been nice to enjoy some TV otherwise superb breakfast and accommodation, staff were very helpful and professional thank you to you all we would definately return.

Review 25:The only quibble I have was the bed (we stayed in Raman). It squeakedevery time we moved & got woken a few times hence a restless night.

Review 26:The hotel & location is lovely. The staff were brilliant & veryattentive. Charles & his team did a great job to ensure that ourrequests were met especially as it was my dear mother's surprise70th birthday treat. We had an afternoon tea for 6 people & 4 of usstayed for the night. My stepdad has mobility issue & they have beenvery accommodating. Thank you so much!

Review 27:We paid and upgraded to an executive suite - room was dusty, electrics were touch and go - 1 socket didn't work so the heater couldn't be plugged in. We told reception as we went out to dinner but it still wasn't fixed on our return. Breakfast didn't cater for vegetarians so it was eggs, eggs or eggs!! Expected a little more finesse with the De Vere name and price tag!! As we checked out staff didn't ask how was our stay - seemed no interest in feedback.

Review 28:Overall grandeur of the hotel on our approach.

Review 29:Couldn't direct us to room adequately, and staff didn't know where it was when we went back down to ask for help. A small, very dusty, dismal room with one curtain edge hanging off rail. Only one bedside lamp. Four electric sockets blanked off, but only two accessible to use (one of which was the TV, the other the electric fan heater), tea tray hidden away out of reach on top shelf of wardrobe. This is basically a conference centre. The TV (terrible picture) is sat on the small desk, so no space for laptop(!) even if you could plug it in! The attention to detail is just not here. Cobwebs in breakfast room, lukewarm tea from thermos jug. Didn't acknowledge when we returned key on leaving.

Review 30:Smart bathroom and nice grounds, but just couldn't make up for everything else being poor.

Review 31:Lack of attention to detail: my bedroom was dusty, with cobwebs, there were 2 storage heaters plugged into an unsightly commercial electrical extension lead, the grill over the radiator was hanging off, the windows were dirty.

Review 32:Grand building, nice location

Review 33:There was no TV in the room, the wardrobe had stock in it and the cleanliness of the room was not as expected.

Review 34:Hotel is lovely. Food is good. Location is good for getting into Milton Keynes

Review 35:Small room for one which is not used very often and needed dusting. It's also cold because it's in an out building. No TV. Traffic noise is also bad.

Review 36:Staff were great after Booking.com let me book a double room which was not available!

Review 37:The hot water was only Luke warm. Could nor shower or bath in the morning. Also the overflow car park is on grass with no lighting, not good for a lone female with heels at night time.

Review 38:The gardens, and room was comfortable

Review 39:No Pump Real Ale. Only one Bottle Real Ale - IN A COOLER!!!

Review 40:Accommodation very good. Naming of rooms unique to this location and very good. Room high standard.

Review 41:Two people infront of me when checking in were making complaints! Unable to give Vat receipts! Room did not gat made in the day! No value or customer service can be found in this hotel

Review 42:Lovely surroundings.. Very friendly and helpful staff, especially Lorraine on reception, Tyrone, and the two young lads who were on duty on 29th August 2015

Review 43:There was a wedding going on but the staff catered for us even though we were the only ones needing dinner and also we missed breakfast but the woman at reception went out of here way too get us something too eat.

Review 44:Staff were inexperienced and/or unhelpful - e.g., slow and unable to explain the ropes on arrival. The TV did not work and there was damp in the bathroom and a broke bin. The library was stuffed with rubbish and the light fittings were broken. The owners, The Royal Society, stand for excellence. What we found was mediocrity. De Veres need to buck up at this place.

Review 45:It was a wonderful building and estate, with beauty and great character.

Review 46:Wi-Fi would not connect and work, very poor TV reception, TV is out off date and needs retuning, has to be done by the site staff due to codes

Review 47:the entire location is fantastic, very attractive surroundings

Review 48:Not being accompanied to our accommodation. It was very late in the evening and not very clear where to go.

Review 49:Room was very good and very clean. Iron did not work, it leaked on our clothes and would not heat up.

Review 50:Worst dining room experience this year , staff useless, had no training, didn't know anything about Menu , couldn't tell lager from real ale , bad attitude as well .

Review 51:Beautiful room , lovely setting, very comfortable, nice views from window.

Review 52:TV signal poor Phone n room doesn't work, advice is to turn on and off-that didn't work. Bathroom had hair all over floor, 2 pieces of loo roll left and no spares or phone to call for more and shower trickled.

Review 53:This hotel is more of a venue for training and meetings. The pictures of the rooms are misleading as they are in fact small. The food is terrible. Breakfast is cold and served by miserable looking staff. I ordered hot food via room service and the chips were stone cold and the burger only just warm. The walls between bedrooms are very thin and not sound-proof. There are a lot of cleaners but as in many older hotels the place could do with a dusting. All very disappointing because it is in a beautiful location.

Review 54:location the building

Review 55:Two spiders climbing down onto me once in the bath right above my head and on in the shower ! Also staff were not very welcoming or chatty.

Review 56:We had an executive room which was well worth the money it was massive and very comfy

Review 57:Having to leave

Review 58:What is there not to like: The location, the building and grounds, the staff, the food, the peace and quiet and especially the beautiful room Bore....

Review 59:I was in a room with no main light, it had one floor lamp and 2 table lamps which didn't give off a good light. The floor in my room was very creaky and there where no facilities for making drinks, or if there where then they are hidden

Review 60:The location and grounds was very nice

Review 61:This is a wedding and conference venue. The food and drink is very over priced and the quality does not meet expectations. The waiting staff are inexperienced and unwelcoming. The walls are paper thin, you can hear everything from the cleaner tidying the room to people clattering down the corridor in the early hours

Review 62:Convenient location and competitively priced for the area

Review 63:Very young restaurant staff, not quite on it. Served soup but no spoon, had to ask for a bread roll, then had to ask for butter. It was like they had never worked in a restaurant before. Single room, bed and duvet very small.

Review 64:Quiet location. Nice bathroom. Nice feel about the place. Fair price.

Review 65:Really poor on check in - I had phoned a few days earlier to arrange early check in as a weddingthat we were attending at the hotel was starting 30 minutes before check in time. I was told that early check in was not an option but that our room would be cleaned first so that we could check in as soon as possible. In reality, we were unable to check in until well after the ceremony, so we had had to change for the wedding in a mixture of toilets, meeting rooms and uncleaned bedrooms.

Review 66:Miserable staff. Assumed I was part of the wedding party - twice! Breakfast was cold, Had to keep asking for things like, pot of tea, cutlery. Commented to reception and got weak appology

Review 67:Beautiful hotel and surroundings

Review 68:very noisy in morning was awoken by staff really early. I know they were doing there job but would have liked a lie in.

Review 69:Everything aspecially staff they are a credit to your company at this establishment

Review 70:The room I was initially in was down stairs and my windows were literally on top of where the cars parked. Because of the positioning of the room it wasn't very private

Review 71:Location was stunning

Review 72:Very average staff, they just weren't interested really, terrible breakfast-dry eggs, rock hard bacon, soggy hash browns, skin on baked beans, just been sitting there too long. spiders webs around windows and corners of room. Lots of spiders webs!

Review 73:comfy bed, big room, good wifi speed.

Review 74:Reception staff. On arrival at 17.00 approx, receptionist appeared flustered and inexperienced, e.g .querying that I was staying alone when |I had booked a single room and did not offer to supply a newspaper next morning. On departure I had difficulty in understanding the receptionist, for whom English was obviously not her first language. I think her response to my query about newspapers was that they could not be ordered after 19.00 because the local shop closed at that time.

Review 75:The beautiful grounds of the hotel. The charming and efficient serving staff in the restaurant. Good food, well cooked.

Review 76:The room was bright and airy with a lovely outlook. Had everything I needed although it was short on plug sockets. I had to put the tea tray on the floor by the bed which was not ideal. Overall, I enjoyed my stay and would definately return.

Review 77:A large wedding party had completely taken over the hotel so no dinner available and we were at the back of the queue at breakfast time

Review 78:great location and main building and gardens. Annex was a bit remote

Review 79:Standard room is approx 4-5 square metres, uncomfortably small room with space for a tiny single bed. Kettle has to be placed on the floor due to lack of space. Mattress in need of replacement, very unsupportive. Obvious gap beneath the door of approx 30mm which meant that light from the corridor came straight into the room - it was like trying to sleep with the light on. This was made worse due to other drunken guests slamming doors until around 1:30am. Dire place to stay - I use many hotel chains in the UK and abroad (approx 100 nights/year) and this is by far the worst night stay I have had in recent years. Not recommended

Review 80:The hotel is in a good location for the M1 / Milton Keynes.

Review 81:Although I paid for a double room, as I was on my own I was given a very small twin room with single beds.

Review 82:The location, the grounds and beautiful building.

Review 83:Booked a double room but got a single room even though they had me down for a double but wouldn't give me another room. No tv in room. Shower curtain about a foot short so bathroom got soaked. Room was tiny. At least I managed to get a small discount. Overall poor service with staff who didn't really seem to care either way.

Review 84:Food

Review 85:The car parking and having to park on wet grass. The room was very small and i could not wtcah TV apart from one channel. The reception lady on checking out didnt ask if I had had a good stay.Eating breakfast in a empty room wasnt great.

Review 86:The hotel location.Breakfast was warm and tasty.

Review 87:The free disco from the wedding didnt go down well - neither did not being able to open windows or a shower smaller than my understairs cupboard

Review 88:great for tiny people who don't want to move much - as everything is within reach in tiny rooms - my gazebo had more space at the event I was at

Review 89:not much atmosphere but I must say it was only realy a base for silverstone so didn't need it to be buzzing!

Review 90:The hotel is set in beautiful grounds & looks amazing as you arrive with the long drive & beautiful building?

Review 91:Confusion with our booking on arrival but patiently sorted by the Reseptionist .

Review 92:Beautiful surroundings & George the resident peacock as a wake up call.

Review 93:No facilities in the room, no air con, lack of plugs for appliances, no hair dryer that worked. Iron did not work and neither did the replacement! I would not be returning for a business stay as it is not set up for this type of traveller.

Review 94:View

Review 95:Strange mix of uses - hotel, conference centre, scientific foundation (yes, really!) and wedding venue all in one!

Review 96:Beautiful buildings set in pretty parkland setting. Can get low cost deals from time to time.

Review 97:The rooms were fairly spartan, in what appeared to be the former stable area - not nearly as luxurious as the impression given by the main house.

Review 98:The house was wonderful, and the staff responsive. Ate dinner at the nearby Chester Arms (just a walk down the lane) twice and had two wonderful meals.

Review 99:room needed some more plug sockets for phone and couldn't get threw to room service on line from room

Review 100:very nice clean and peaceful surroundings staff are very nice price of single room was excellent

Review 101:Our first room was not good, we were moved to another room. If you are an American, only book the superior rooms or you will be disappointed.

Review 102:The facility and the location just odd the M1

Review 103:We absolutely loved the setting of this hotel. The decoration and layout of the rooms were so impressive. For the price you really do get a luxury stay. The hotel grounds were so lovely and I'm happy I eventually got a picture of George the peacock. We'll definitely be making a return trip soon

Review 104:The room we were sent too on our arrival was shockingly small but we are sure there was a genuine mistake and was moved to the room we expected to have with no fuss.

Review 105:the Hall is gorgeous, our executive suite was as lovely too with fantastic garden views.

Review 106:The shower in the grand bedroom was very poor - a nasty plastic curtain that clung to your body as you tried to wash. The bar was entirely without character and was staffed by an unsmiling and non welcoming character.

Review 107:The original building and the immediate gardens are wonderful. Our bedroom was grand, with the exception noted.

Review 108:I booked 1 executive double and 2 standard doubles, and whilst it isn't necessarily possible to have rooms together, it would have been nicer if the 2 standard doubles were at least in the same wing, which they weren't. Whilst this didn't turn out to be a huge issue it would have still been nicer for this to be considered when assigning rooms.

Review 109:No doubt about it, the grounds were impressive as was the room in the main building. There was lots of space and the atmosphere was very relaxed. The breakfast was tasty and plentiful, being constantly replenished. Also with a car, access to the town was quick and straightforward.

Review 110:Little details. Our kettle didn't reach any plug point in the room, so we had to balance it on the radiator! Room service arrived with an empty pepper pot. To get hold of reception, we had to call an external number from our mobile phone. The room phone didn't connect, even after following the instructions to re-boot. Silly little details which at the reduced price of £69 per night were excusable. Had we paid the full rate of £149, those niggles would have really mattered. For such a lovely hotel, they should focus on the little details!!

Review 111:Bed and pillows were from heaven! Beautiful peacocks in the grounds and lovely surroundings. It was peaceful and relaxing, which was what we wanted. Staff were pleasant, if a little formal, but were welcoming.

Review 112:The staff and whole experience in the hotel! They tried down grading our rooms because they had over booked and tried to pass off a double room as an top excuitives suit

Review 113:The surrounding gardens

Review 114:Bar - no where to sit - to small - no beer Lager or soft drinks on tap - overpriced Restaurant fixed price menu with little choice options

Review 115:look of hotel

Review 116:Room booked for £47, however, on arrival informed that no rooms available at that price and moved to executive suite at £99 per night. Informed that booking.com and hotel had attempted to contact me, however; I did not have my mobile on me and had not read the message.

Review 117:Beautiful setting. Upmarket hotel with friendly staff.

Review 118:Confusion at check in and check out. My Son used his credit card there and it was compromised that evening. It was the only time he had used it for at least one month. I mention this in case you have had any other such occurrences.

Review 119:Good Surroundings, tranquil location, quite.

Review 120:Restaurant is a little pricey, but food is good, and it can be a bit tricky ordering food in the bar as not always staffed.

Review 121:My partner and I just adore Chicheley Hall. The moment you walk in you are transported back in time. Stunning building, stunning grounds and above all, peace. It is so lovely and peaceful there, you wake up to birds singing and nothing else! Rooms are beautiful and the staff are professional, pleasant and welcoming. We will be back in Cockcroft again!

Review 122:A fantastic building, plenty of old world charm and stunning grounds. The bar needs extending with some draught beers on it as this would encourage people to stay in. Yes, I would go back.

Review 123:The lady at reception did not know what she was doing. Charged me for a single room when I booked a double executive. Could not find other booking as we booked 3 rooms.

Review 124:The hotel grounds are amazing. Rooms are good

Review 125:The room was nothing like the pictures. untrained rude staff. Food undercooked tv barely worked shower didn't work tiny bed not very comfy overall bad stay, wish I had gone somewhere else!

Review 126:Nothing. Straight from the start they messed everything up. Couldn't even sort out what room was what. Didn't direct me to my room and were just plain rude because I was younger than the 'normal guest' I feel discriminated and disappointed as it looked nice in the pictures...

Review 127:We stayed in the/a coach house, which was perfectly acceptable (not always the case we have found at other places). Room was large and comfortable. Parking plentiful.

Review 128:Everything. What a treat to stay in a Grade 1 listed mansion house. The gardens and hotel are beautiful. The room was palatial and beautifully decorated. Fabulous bathroom.

Review 129:The problem is that they should charge more, that way they could afford to train their staff a little more and serve better food. The dinner was very average but inexpensive. Charge us more and give us better quality food, you have a monopoly there.

Review 130:The hotel is absolutely stunning. The grounds are out of this world and so well kept. I felt like I was staying in Hampton Court Palace. We upgraded our room and honestly, compared to my small flat in London I felt like I was living like royalty for the night. Really felt like a very luxury hotel for these reasons.

Review 131:The double bed was very small, horribly soft and uncomfortable. A very small bar area too. But the whole experience was very good valu for money

Review 132:A really wonderful country house park with a lake and walks. Plenty of birds, wild flowers etc. The staff were very welcoming. A good English Breakfast too.- in that room the wall paper is worth seeing!!!!! :). Easy access to MK too.

Review 133:We were not told that the hotel was booked by two wedding parties for the two nights we were there. Therefore we were unable to use the bar or dining room and had to eat out.

Review 134:The location.

Review 135:Nothing.

Review 136:We loved our comfortable bed in the tastefully restored room. The bathroom door was almost hidden in the wall, and was small but perfectly formed. Good value for money.

Review 137:Poor TV reception, slow service, handle of the fire door came off in my hand, noise of doors slamming were audible from the disabled single room I had been initially allocated. When I asked to change rooms I was upgraded and the room was quite quirky but suited my needs.

Review 138:The setting and grounds of the building were stunning. Staff were generally very good and helpful.

Review 139:The room was spacious and with beautiful features. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Also for a very large room it was warm with extra heating already in the room so you didn't need to ask.
