Reviews for Kalypso Cretan Village Resort & Spa
Review 1:The "village" feel as each room is separate little house surrounded by water and trees in a stunning location and with its own private creek for swimming and scuba diving as well as two lovely pools.
Review 2:Not very good food at buffet. Unfriendly and unhelpful staff on the whole. Bar wasn't friendly, didn't have many drinks etc. Very expensive drinks!!
Review 3:Incredible location among the rocks with lots of pools and a cove to swim in the sea.
Review 4:No free wifi in room, only in the lobby
Review 5:Nice hotel, but not extremely luxurious. The food was good. Location is out of the way but the pool/view was gorgeous
Review 6:slippery tiles sloping onto bar area, general atmosphere of managed mass tourism. faded paint on doors, splintered hole in bathroom door frame where door should have locked. wifi did not work in room. impersonal service, typically to instruct me on hotel procedures.
Review 7:access to a rocky beach for swimming, views out to sea, garden
Review 8:I never met in my life a such unpolite, unfriendly, unfear staff.. especially considering that is a Village. They tried to mess around us in different occasions, every time with the goal to get more money..unbelieveble.. Lunch and dinner are quite awfull, the quality of the food is uncomparable with any Cretian restaurant you can find in the Isle: I really advice you to drive 5 min to Plakias, where you have to opportunity to choose many different great restaurants. The room was big and with a great seaview, but we found hair and dust on the floor.. be carefull: don't forget door or windows open, a lot of cats live in the area and they are use to enter in the rooms.. (we really like cats, but ...) we were lucky because the Village was quite empty, but in case you would find it full, there are no enought sunbeds/space for all the guests. WIFI: available only in the lobby area.. if you want to use it in your room, you have to pay an extra amount (3 euro 1 hour, 22 euro 10 hours)...........
Review 9:The location is wonderful, but unfortunately it seems a bit abandoned .. Breakfast is good!
Review 10:The deal we booked said all inclusive but this was not the case. The three meals were but most things during the day were extra. Iced coffees, iced slushies, bottles of water and Wi Fi in your room. You had to carry a card with you which they issued on arrival and show it every time which was irritating when you are in swimwear! The room was supposed to be a family room for 4 but it was the same size as other rooms with 2 tiny beds added. There was not enough room for us all. The shower was broken and pointed at the wall so it was ridiculous to use. This was not a cheap place to stay at €270 a night for the 4 of us. Not value for money as other people have suggested. We stayed 2 nights and left.
Review 11:Good variety of food but no seafood unless you wanted to pay extra
Review 12:The rooms were small, dingy, well worn and smelled very musty. The room looked nothing like the picture I saw online. The rooms were very overpriced for what they were, budget rooms at resort prices. I would not go back there.
Review 13:Great place to go snorkelling or diving, not a good beach for young children though, the water can be a bit rough. The pool was nice.
Review 14:Wifi sucked when it worked and was non-existent in the rooms. Do not pick this place if you need to stay in touch with the outside world. On the other hand having no internet encourages you to make the most of your stay there. The property is quite run down. It desperately really needs a new coat of paint and for someone to get rid of all the rusty metal fences etc.
Review 15:The lagoon was stunning, and the sunbeds were available if you're willing to get up early enough. The location is great if you want to get away and forget about the rest of civilisation. There's a bus that is scheduled to leave 4 times a day to the closest town Plakias. Staff were friendly and eager to please. The animation team really makes an effort to get everyone together.
Review 16:The smell and cleanliness of the room was awful. The rooms need update. There is no shampoo and place to leave your towels and swimsuit to dry. The staff was not polite. The buffet has very little variety. Too much money for that hotel.
Review 17:The pool was very clean and the location fantastic.
Review 18:Fiew sunbeds, no food between 2and 8pm, misleading info about all inclusive, takes 5 h by public transportation from herklion, unkindly employees, etc.
Review 19:Common spaces, view, pools.
Review 20:The hotel was not clean at all: the bathroom, the table clothes in the restaurant, fork, knife and plates were dirty. The food was not good either, with its low variety. The staff was very unfriendly and impolite, the service was slow. The location of the hotel is very isolated. Some people may like it, but others may get bored in the hotel. One definitely needs a car to get to the hotel, however the parking lots are not sufficient for all customers. For us it was very hard to find a parking lot. Although the staff is aware of the parking problem, they simply do not care. The facilities in the hotel are very old, the hotel needs a renovation. In the rooms, safe locker was available with an extra charge. We did not feel quite safe in the hotel, as one of the cleaning staff entered our room (in the afternoon) without asking for permission. Although free Wifi was said to be available, we could not connect with our mobile devices (except for a few minutes, when the internet was very slow). We stayed there for only one night, we could not have stayed there for even one night longer. This hotel certainly does not deserve its four stars and its price, it is a very low quality hotel.
Review 21:The sea was beautiful, with its turquoise colour and rocks surrounding it. It was also possible to try diving.
Review 22:Slight lack of sun loungers and practice of leaving towels on sun loungers when guests not there although there are signs from the hotel asking people not to do this. Intermittent WiFi. Only really available in lobby and pool area which was not a problem but the evenings were very busy meaning it was difficult to get a connection which was frustrating but then again good to get away from WiFi and have a real holiday.
Review 23:Fantastic location. It is remote but that adds to its charm. We had a hire car which made getting to and from the hotel easy. Good value for money, cleanliness and great variety of food. Lovely clean (salt water) swimming pools and great access to the sea for snorkelling and diving.
Review 24:No WIFI in the rooms, even if you buy it it is only for one person and it doesn't work good in the rooms, I was going to do some continuing education courses, it was impossible.TV needs to be upgraded , very small glasses
Review 25:Nature
Review 26:The buildings are maybee 40 years old and not super-updated. It was 100% ok for us, but some guests would maybee expect more from a resort ved 4 stars..
Review 27:The location is excellent.... The water is fantastic, swimming between the rocks, there is a quiet atmosphere and it is absolutly not crowded.
Review 28:Great location with poor rooms and poor breakfast, Since we stayed at the beaches in the area or traveled,it was not worth it since the room and breakfast were bad...
Review 29:The location
Review 30:Loungers by the pool being reserved by towels. Despite a notice stapled to every parasol reminding guests that their towels would be removed if they were used as a reservation method, they never were. During the lunch 2 hour period, the pool can be seen to be surrounded by empty loungers with only towels covering them - despite the fact that there are other guests wanting to use the loungers. :(
Review 31:The location is amazing - whoever had the foresight to visualise building a hotel complex here should be given an award.
Review 32:Rooms smelled horrible if they were on the bottom floor. Entrance makes you want to turn around. Whole place needs a facelift - has potential
Review 33:Pools were fantastic!! Rooms that were built into the cliff smelled
Review 34:Very old infrastructure in the rooms. Very basic facilities in the rooms. The hotel is max 2-3 stars (although is advertised 4*!!!). Most of the staff unfriendly and not professional. Better to get there by car; far from all beaches and Plakias village.
Review 35:Place; panoramic view in the middle of mountains and rocks; idyllic. I would say good hotel for all inclusive
Review 36:For the rating of the hotel the accommodation we stayed in was a little tired and needed some updating but clean and on arrival nets to tennis court ripped so first impressions could be better. For people with mobility issues and elderly lots of hills and steep climb.we were all inclusive but very quickly realised most things you had to pay extra and sometimes until you had the bill were unaware of extra costs so beware to ask if it's included.
Review 37:Lovely scenery. Friendly staff. Plenty to occupy yourself and different areas to relax. Comfortable accommodation.
Review 38:Although the location and buildings of the complex are extraordinary, it seems a bit worn down, no special service, rooms ok, but also not overly good. Found hairs from previous guests on the bed.
Review 39:Hotel is located in an extra-ordinary spot and beautiful location. It's driving distance away to the next town and quite secluded.
Review 40:Za dużo betonu - wybetonowana zatoczka nad morzem, beton na skałach. Dość kiczowata aranżacja przestrzeni - np. imitacje greckich kolumn. Brak WiFi w pokoju. Brak żelazka. Niezbyt dobre śniadanie.
Review 41:Duży, przestronny pokój. Widok z okna na ośrodek i zatoczkę. Miła obsługa. Możliwość skorzystania z basenu bez muzyki.
Review 42:It's quite far from the village of Plakias so forget about nightlife which is OK if you plan a relaxed holidays. The hotel offers mini buses that go to the village at specific intervals and you have access to 2 beaches by foot so you won't feel completely isolated.
Review 43:Perfect isolated paradise with it's own private beach, theater, mini football and diving school. If you include the 3 swimming pools and the perfect buffet (don't miss the opportunity to eat there; you'll have the chance to try most of the Greek cuisine). I have never experienced something similar. I wish i could stay more...
Review 44:- Coffee at breakfast was nearly undrinkable, but the food was decent - Very isolated without much real character, but probably great for a family with small kids
Review 45:- Small protected cove that is connected to the hotel was perfect even on a windy day - Pathway overlooking the sea was great for watching the sunset - Small shop to buy snacks and beer if you want to relax on your balcony
Review 46:Rooms are somewhat dated but very roomy and comfortable.
Review 47:The views facilities and staff are very good. Even allowed us to put our boat in the bay and moor it there during our stay. Food was of good quality and plentiful. Excellent massage at a reasonable price. Even our German shepherd was not a problem for the hotel. Altogether excellent . Would come back again and again.
Review 48:ORANGE JUICE IN BREAKFAST: IS NOT A 4 STARS HOTEL ORANGE JUICE. I CANNOT UNDERSTAND THIS CHEAP CHOICE (EVEN LESS IN CRETE)
Review 49:LOCATION DIVING CENTER HELPFUL STAFF
Review 50:Some of the stuff is unfriendly. The rooms would need some renovation and new equipment (TV broke, fridge on the edge to).
Review 51:The location is fabulous and the resort, with it's houses, pools and facilities fits in really nice. The resort offers many areas, to lay, sit, drink and relax. Because of this the resort does never feel crowded even if fully booked.
Review 52:No mini-bar Beer served in small plastic water cups Attention & better service given to non-resident 'paying' guests Gin included - tonic water not!! Very strict 22:30 cut off for "All Inclusive" guests
Review 53:Setting Snorkelling Food Most of the staff Proximity to local villages & towns
Review 54:this is not a 4star hotel.smelly towels, dirty bathrooms, the food was b' quality, extra charge for beach towels,no room service, not easily accessible, there is no beach(had to drive every day for the beach)
Review 55:view
Review 56:The hotel is facing the sea and that it's a plus, however it's not easy to access from the main road. It's an old hotel and there is lack of maintenance. Dirty tablecloths on the breakfast tables. If your choice is only with breakfast, please remember that the hotel have the option of all inclusive, so could happen there is a lot of people at the meals.
Review 57:Amazing views. The two small swimming pools were great.
Review 58:When we stayed there it was a bit windy (end of August), but that was no big problem. It is located in the south of Crete, a little far from the nearest main city (Rethymno) and if you have a rental car, it is quite difficult to get to the resort from the north of Crete.
Review 59:The resort is amazing, built in cliff located in Plakias, with lots of stuff to do inside the resort!
Review 60:Kalypso This hotel is simply overpriced Maybe worth 2 stars and maybe 50 eur per night not more. It was probably great 20 years ago Now lacks investments. Bulbs missing water leaking smell mini bar not working tennis table broken etc ... The list is long. Most of staff is from Eastern Europe and does not speak English and when talking to them they are eager to leave! Too little parking space for cars and impossible to find a sunbed by the pool. There should be a warning that this is the camp for the average polish who likes to drink and dance on stupid music in the pool at 11 am. Big difference between the nice photos and the reality. Beautiful scenery though but overall the place deserves to be skipped!
Review 61:unnormaly bad drinks in all inclusive. equipment and poor condition of gym in overall
Review 62:we liked original place. food was good, rooms ok, bathroom ok but could be better
Review 63:The breakfast served was not very good (but we are vegan...) The wi-fi is very weak and cost additional payment in the room
Review 64:stunning view (especially from rooks with sea view) There are many beautiful spots in the resort itself and around Plakias Relaxing
Review 65:Although we had booked our room well in advance we were given a room smelling horribly due to sewage and humidity. I had to negotiate a lot until we achieved a change of room on the second day of stay. The new room was better but still the two children beds and pillows had the smell of frying oil like they had been just taken out of the hotel's kitchen. The lack of cleanliness was apparent all around the hotel with bad kitchen smells outside the hotel's reception (!!!) and sticking dirty tables both in the main pool area and the main lounge. The breakfast buffet was of great variety but of too miserable quality. The buildings seem like ready to collapse, they need immediate repairs and renovation. The sun beds on the beach and around the pools were not available as other hotel guests used to put their towels on them even from the previous night without the hotel's staff seeming to bother to sort things out. I suggest that you'd avoid this hotel unless you want to find yourself facing really bad surprises.
Review 66:The location and the views
Review 67:Dirty rooms, bathroom and towels. Disgusting breakfast with dirty tablecloth. No free wifi at room, free wifi at pool not available. Bad service, unpolite personel.
Review 68:Nothing
Review 69:Dirty rooms, Cracks on the walls, Poor food, poor choice, same food all the time, No signs of explanation what kind of food it is,Dirty, creased tablecloth in the eating area, No shampoo and soap in the bathroom, Lots of insects during eating time,Should pay for beach towels,Liking and smelly toilet,Small, old style TV.
Review 70:This hotel might be good for families but not for young people looking for more than animators and a glass of coctail next to the pool. The hotel is literally at the end of the area, there is nothing close to it and is very windy - and during such a weather there is nothing to do there, unless you have a car and can drive to some towns to do some sightseeing. The room was relatively big but the bathrom door stuck and the wifi connection was a hit-and-miss even in the common area (and there was no wifi in the rooms) I am also a celiac and lactose intolerant which I mentioned during reservation asking for an option at the breakfast, I also sent an inquiry to the hotel several days before we took our rooms, but never got a reply, nor did they provide any alternative for the breakfast which was included in the cost. Overall, I would never go here again.
Review 71:Appalling toilets near pool No toilets or beach bar near beach No hand rails on steep steps and slopes No proper shower in room only hand shower in a deep sided bath not enough seats at the pool All inclusive drinks stop at 10.30, even though entertainment starts at 10
Review 72:Good food
Review 73:It is very far away from the town and really hard to find. No clear direction and not on GPS. We were lucky to find a local shop owner who has been to the resort to draw us a map. They really need to put up some clear signs. Rooms are very old and uncomfortable
Review 74:Great ocean view from the resort. Beautiful beach and a short walking trial along the cliff. Nice swimming pool
Review 75:CLEANING THE ROOMS IN AFTERNOON WHILE TRY TO SLEEP - ONLY KNOCKING ONCE AND THEN COME IN - DO NOT LIKE IT
Review 76:THE PEOPLE WAS FRIENDLY AND THE LOCATION WAS GOOD.
Review 77:Breakfast can be better, not all staff people speak English, no internet in rooms
Review 78:Location, rooms, reception staff.
Review 79:For the price we paid, we were expecting much more.
Review 80:The view is amazing and the breakfast in the mornings were really good.
Review 81:None
Review 82:Great area, wonderful nature and hospitable people
Review 83:beautiful location
Review 84:No wifi in the rooms
Review 85:Location near the coast
Review 86:Old bathroom
Review 87:Very nice place for snorkeling and diving
Review 88:location, food
Review 89:food, sea, people, guests, diving
Review 90:They do not care much about details....for instance some sofas in the common area are not in good conditions.
Review 91:Access to the sea.
Review 92:Load of package holidayers
Review 93:Having diving school on site
Review 94:Some rooms aren't good, cieling crumbles, a bit dusty
Review 95:The location, pools, facilities outside the rooms, the little great bay and shore
Review 96:Wifi poor connection
Review 97:Great team @ Kalypso, very friendly
Review 98:Bed vet hard
Review 99:Great for traveler On budget
Review 100:Great views, good breakfast, very nice staff
Review 101:the location of the hotel is like paradise
Review 102:All resort needs urgent upgrade. AT this stage I reate Kalypso with general one star!
Review 103:locations magnificant
Review 104:- the worst low quality food I have ever seen in my life -low hygiene, especially the pool area -mold in the rooms
Review 105:beautiful location, very clean pool, interesting design of pool area, trampoline in the pool, activities and entertainment daily, scuba diving.
Review 106:Nice place to relax, do some sport and enojoy, definitely recommend.
Review 107:The property could use a little updating, but no one goes on a vacation to sit in their room. The outside facilities are fantastic. Pools, swim cove, etc!
Review 108:The location is gorgeous with the cove that leads out to the sea. Pools (3) are beautiful and well maintained.
Review 109:Finding the place is difficult, nothing around the place, no restaurants, shops etc
Review 110:Exotic location, situated inside a cliff, once reach the hotel it s very good for relaxation
Review 111:The food could be better and also they could have more Cretan products like cheese etc.
Review 112:The peacefulness of the hotel and the friendliness of the staff.
Review 113:very oldstyle, unfinished parts and concrete masses in between an old, probably once fashionable resort, unprofessional staff, horrible food
Review 114:special beach access behind a huge rock as a shelter
Review 115:simply everything.we stayed there with friends, relaxed and enjoyed a variety of things, joined the spa, swam in the pools on the rocks, met some wonderful people in the hotel who were really gentle polite and became our friends. we had breakfast only but loved all the extra meals there, the cook is brilliant. the view is breathtaking and the whole area filled our batteries with positive energy. the rooms were comfortable and clean, the bartenders offered tasty cocktails to the ladies and all staff was great.finally the prices were lower than expected and we will go back next year with our friends for sure. we will miss everybody round there
Review 116:Fantastic! Pure cretan acomodation, superb luxurius bars pools livingrooms , fantastic view, wonderful people, loved the place, eventravelers from nearby, never expected that brilliant place we met.nextsummer we hope to spend more days at this hotel. Trustful and worthevery single cent we spent there. Thank you
Review 117:The diving center offered my wife and I some great experience. The bottom of the sea is perfect in that place. The spa center was also very relaxing and entertaining. Of course Kalypso is well known for the beautiful location. We'll be back next year!
Review 118:It's a bit far to reach if you are landing in Chania, but its worth the effort you will put in getting to this place. It's a self sustained place which with all the facilities it has doesn't give you a reason to go out of the resort. The staff are friendly and the diving centre instructor and staff are awesome.
Review 119:Too few sun chairs around the swimming pools Poor free wifi connection No laundry service Staff not very helpful to solve problems (laundry) Stupid supplement policy: - -- good (?) wifi= 3€/hr 2 €/day for getting the room safe key
Review 120:Location, infrastructure
Review 121:you have to pay for the internet services.
Review 122:excellent staff and hospitality manager. unique location friendly locals and good kitchen. Every day a complete room cleaning as well.
Review 123:No free wifi in the room, drinks at the poolbar (€7 for a bacardi coke in a small plastic cup)
Review 124:Incredible location, 3 swimmingpools were never crowded during ou stay (lower season). Probably a lot more package tourist will stay during high season. Swimming deck in the small bay was very calm and secluded. Nearby Damnoni and Amoudi beaches were reachable by our car in just 10min and were great for staying at an actual beach (Kalypso has about 5 metres beach)
Review 125:lots of stairs but it's good for the health !! and it's the natural counterpart of the location
Review 126:the location overlooking the sea half board : excellent food rooms : OK excellent overall quality for the price
Review 127:Don't go there! The pictures are so false! We went there in themiddle of May 13' it was dead-empty. The road to there is verydifficult with no signs at all to find them. It's a very desertedlocation, not in a good way. You have very dark dangerous drive to thenearest town which is so old and dated, with a lousy beach. There isactually no beach at the site, and the pool is lbad. Breakfest is poor. The general look s old and ugly. We left after one night and theyrefused to give us money back for 2 more nights we booked. Almost ruinedour vecation thank god we got away fast.
Review 128:Nothing!!!
Review 129:Negative point ,the music at the poolbar is terrably loud, you can here it all over the complex. No problem if you discover the area and return back in the evening ;-)
Review 130:Perfect location, beautifull vieuw over the Lybian sea, Very clean ,diner- and breakfastbuffet good, friendly staff.
Review 131:the bathroom (the painting of the toilet seat needed to be refreshed, and the shower was small and old).
Review 132:The different swimming pools , the view the near access to the sea, big bed room, large breakfast Cheap price for value
Review 133:Older rooms, outdated. Beds not too comfortable. But your not there for the rooms.
Review 134:Amazing views from hotel. Very picturesque! Would stay here again.
