Reviews for The Connaught Inn
Review 1:No bad comments to make. It was very enjoyable. We stayed on a Thursday which meant there wasn't many around the town but that wasn't the hotels fault.
Review 2:Staff very friendly. Extremely nice bar and food was Excellent.
Review 3:This is the first time I have spent four nights in a hotel where neither bedroom nor bathroom were cleaned, the bed was not made, the bin was not emptied If a hotel chooses to welcome guests over the Christmas period, they need to service those guests. Morning of my departure I had to hang around while someone who knew about the billing appeared. All a little bit amateur.
Review 4:I ordered poached egg for breakfast and was told the chef not on and the cleaner was cooking and couldn't do poached egg
Review 5:Room was clean , very basic
Review 6:Smelly corridors gives you some idea about the room even room is clean. Cold water in the shower during the night in November???? Gives you good wakeup.....
Review 7:Bathroom had mould growing Tiles were cracked Had to ask for towels
Review 8:Close to theatre Generous breakfast Friendliness of staff Free Supper late in bar Music
Review 9:The hosts were so welcoming and we enjoyed interacting with them during our stay. Great little cosie place to relax and the rooms were great and clean
Review 10:not very clean bed linen needs to be updated plus plates and cutlery also .staff need to trained in hotel trade .
Review 11:room very good like set up as in own door leading to court yard.
Review 12:A little bit expensive room charge for a rural location.Paid less in Cork for a mid town three star hotel. Competition I suppose
Review 13:friendly staff, good food, would stay there again
Review 14:Although the room itself was good the location of the room wasn't it was located in a courtyard away from the main building and directly below private apartments. On our 2nd night we were awakened by a house party in the apartment above that went on until 6am. We complained to the management and requested to be moved to a room in the main hotel which they agreed to with apologies for our experience plus a meal and a drink on the house. We would only stay on the main hotel if we were to have a return visit.
Review 15:The breakfast service was poor, only one member of staff, tables not cleared away. Didn't have any teapots for tea had to wait 1 hour for breakfast with 2 children.
Review 16:Convenient location
Review 17:The Hotel smelled of urine when entering the reception and was very dirty with dirty tea towels in the eating areas etc. The rooms were dark, dirty and smelly too. Do not stay here!!! We had to hand the keys back and look for accommodation elsewhere for two nights. The staff were not helpful and charged us for the two night stay which is in dispute now
Review 18:Nothing
Review 19:On the Sunday morning we were unable to leave our room as the lock was stuck. I had to call Reception and ask for assistance. She had to call the Owner, who arrived in approx 15 minutes. He couldn't open the door so we had to throw the key out the window to him on the main street. he then had to force open the door, he didn't apologise or seem to realise the implications of us being trapped in the room if there was a fire. He was shocked when we said we couldn't stay and wanted a refund. He showed no empathy or customer service skills. I would be concerned that he has proper fire evacuation procedures and if he services the door locks. The room was not clean, nor the bathroom.
Review 20:The bar area and food was good. Waitress service was good.
Review 21:No option of an early breakfast. Breakfast starts at 9am. This would have been lovely if we were not rushing out early in the mornings.
Review 22:Comfortable clean family room We had to leave early in the mornings before breakfast was available but the staff left sandwiches, fruit and water outside our room for us - very much appreciated. Lovely menu at the restaurant Owners very friendly and helpful. Good location for easy access to Westport. Car park
Review 23:Small room, there was lightbulb missing in our room but nothing major, overall grand, we just stayed for one night
Review 24:Central to town, 2 min walk. Nice bar area, rooms basic but cheap and cheerful. Friendly staff, good breakfast.
Review 25:We had a wonderful stay , the staff were fantastic & couldn't do enough for you, food was excellent & the rooms were gorgeous, we would highly recommend the Connaught & will defenetly be booking there again the next time we come to Ireland
Review 26:Wifi was terrible
Review 27:A newly refurbished accomodation block, which has been finished to a very high standard, private parking was a real bonus as it sits on a busy street.Massive double bed and great shower,if it wasn't for the poor wifi would have scored 12/10 as it is 11/10 ,couldn't fault the accommodation or staff oh and the breakfast was V tasty, served quickly and offers of more tea/toast were appreciated.
Review 28:Waiting over an hour for breakfast each morning felt staff were badly trained, very very slow and have they never heard of a tray ??? Would save and awful lot of time serving and clearing tables. What was supposed to be white sheets on bed were grey.
Review 29:Good shower.
Review 30:The room was comfortable That's the only good. Thing to say about this place ! Breckie was the worst that I have ever in my life got . Order porridge from menu it said served with cream the porridge was like something the cat threw up bacon raw and smoked never told us when taking order. Cereal came after cooked breakfast was served and stale croissants terible terible
Review 31:I could have done with a bigger towel. There is more of me to dry after my stay in Castlebar the food in the area was great :)
Review 32:The warm welcome I arrived late at night but the staff were excellent
Review 33:Hygiene poor. Room not well kept. No room service ie no change of towels on 2nd day. Hygiene or rather lack of it gave me a very bad impression of this place
Review 34:Although the food was great and could not fault the taste, the size of the breakfasts varied each day f our stay, for example the amount of beans on the fry up was about 2 teaspoons, the amount of toast on the scrambled egg varied from 2-4 slices, however a basket of sliced toast was given with the fry up which I shared with my husband on the 2/3rd mornings.
Review 35:The cleanliness of the whole place and the friendliness of all the staff. Chicken curry was delicious on our first night.
Review 36:On our first morning the breakfast took a long time to arrive. It was a little disorganised but worth the wait
Review 37:obviously the price was fantastic for a bank holiday weekend. The owners and staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We had a room in the Courtyard which was very private and handy for sitting outside with a drink, which thankfully the weather permitted on Saturday night. The room was very well equipped for our stay. The food was lovely and very reasonably priced for dinner. We will definitely be back
Review 38:Wifi did not work in my bedroom (courtyard area) which was annoying as I had a lot of work to do.
Review 39:Delicious dinner (fish and chips). Worthy of any top restaurant. Breakfast was super as well.
Review 40:Breakfast didn't start till 9am. Room was very basic and carpet was very stained. Music in the bar transferred to our room so we couldn't sleep till 1pm. Breakfast was very basic and we felt that we paid too much for the quality of the accommodation. Overall a very bad experience.
Review 41:The bedroom was very basic and noisy due to the band playing in the bar. The room should have been cleaner. The bed was not made up after our first night, there was no rubbish bin in the room, breakfast didn't start until 9am. Expensive for what we got.
Review 42:nothing
Review 43:Breakfast wasn't served until 9am which was too late for us as we had to be in Westport by 8:30 so we dudnt get breakfast
Review 44:Good location and free parking
Review 45:Breakfast! Not much on the menu and only one member of staff seemed to really work, I think she was the chef and waitress and she was very attentive maybe some of her colleagues could learn a bit from her, didn't get her name all I can say is she wore glasses and looked young, all I can be is honest with this review, Dennis and Leigh were nice, having said that I would stay again
Review 46:The room was very modern and the bed was comfortable
Review 47:it lacked finesse, like no side plates at breakfast, no handsoaps, only shampoo in shower, and most of all the base of the music downstairs kept me awake
Review 48:Overall ok
Review 49:We made a reservation for single beds. Because this wasn't specifiedin the confirmation message, I asked for and got a confirmation byemail. Nevertheless we got a room with a double bed! On the firstevening of our stay, we had supper in the pub. The bill (not specified!)was 108 euros. When I indicated that the bill wasn't correct, I gota new one: 95 euros. And once again the bill was not correct. Ultimatelywe had to pay less than 80 euros! We stayed for five nights, but duringour entire stay our beds weren't made up, our room wasn'tcleaned and the garbage bins weren't emptied. And if we hadn'trequested for clean towels after three days, the towels wouldn'thave been replaced at all! I am of opinion that for 140 euros per nightI may expect a little bit more service!
Review 50:The breakfast is excellent.
Review 51:I had notified them re dietary requirements to which they replied they could facilitate this. They were unable to cater for this in any way. Very disappointing Breakfast very poor..
Review 52:Staff friendly, did their best
Review 53:Having my cooked breakfast put on the table when I was only halfwaythrough my cereal. Gulped it down before irish breakfast got cold somemembers of staff were weak
Review 54:Location bed
Review 55:Stop serving food at 18;30. Breakfast was quite average and greasy. Would recommend eating elsewhere. Nowhere close by to park for free.
Review 56:Nice staff. Cosy.
Review 57:Only complaint about my stay is that the coffee-water-boiler wasnt cleaned after the last guests had put the instant coffee into the actual pot. Other than that the inn is in a wonderful spot of town, our room overlooked the main street and staff was very friendly, and if i didnt mention before, this was the best breakfast my entire trip, and not just because it wasn't free hostel cereal and toast, but the quality of the food was great! And they handed us an inn breakfast menu and said anything you want. I will definitely be returning.
Review 58:I don't really have any complaints.
Review 59:Everyone at the Connaught inn was extremely friendly and helpful , no requests from us were too much trouble. We stayed as a group of friends we booked this place without any previous knowledge but choose it mainly for it's central location and cheap prizes. On arrival we were shocked to see our rooms with great security , they have recently added a new block of rooms the the back of there building which are all lovely and modern. We were actually the first ever guests to stay in our room! The beds were extremely comfortable , it was clean cosy and welcoming. We also paid 130 for 4 people and didn realise until we arrived that it included breakfast. This place is ideal , welcoming , friendly and great value for money ! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will most definitely be back again.
Review 60:The breakfast with good and piping hot . Overall good value for money @ £41 per double room with breakfast . Room was not a large room but enough to do , and was clean an tidy .
Review 61:Breakfast was ok but a few things on the menu were not available.
Review 62:The rooms were clean and modern, staff were friendly, it was a 5minute walk into Castlebar. A lovely place to stay for a family weekend away.
Review 63:Shower pressure was poor for all 4 guests in our party (4 different rooms), bathroom bin in my room hadn't been emptied from previous guest. Also our breakfast was terrible. We all ordered eggs and were told they didn't have enough for all of us, but offered us scrambled eggs as they had already made that in the kitchen. We agreed to this but the eggs didn't arrive for 20-25 mins, and were cold and inedible. Accompanying toast was also cold, as was the porridge one of our party had ordered. We requested more toast (which was hot) and ended up sending our eggs back practically untouched. Between the various delays it took us 40-45 mins to gave breakfast, which essentially was toast and coffee. While staff were apologetic this situation is far from acceptable in a guest house.
Review 64:Room was comfortable, staff were friendly
Review 65:Didn't like the bed & was charged for a triple room & was only given a twin room. Woke up with a sore back sleeping on a matress on the floor, & the breakfast was cold.
Review 66:The location was very handy.
Review 67:the room was nice but it wasn't very clean. it was basic and access to the room was outside the main building which wasn't ideal.
Review 68:Great access to castlebar and the royal theatre. Very easy to find and key location to get around the West.
Review 69:The dawn chorus was amazing. Would love to return just to hear it again! Food excellent, we had dinner when we arrived and a breakfast the following morning.
Review 70:The friendly welcome. The room was clean. The bed was comfortable and the room was warm. Had dinner in the bar, it was very well presented and really nice and good value for money. I would stay here again.
Review 71:The breakfast started at 9 I wasnt aware of this and for me it was far too late. This time should be advertised somewhere !! The room was very nice but the heating system made a lot of noise regularly that kept me awake. A member of staff had a public row with another customer about the late breakfast. It was a very public disagreement and I thought it was very unprofessional. Would not accommodate the customer at all!! Would like to think staff would try to accommodate customers in some way.
Review 72:The Food was excellent. It was really well presented and good value for money.
Review 73:The Owners and Staff were amazing. So professional and cheerful. We stayed on friday 13th and despite the saying that its an unlucky day, it was perfect for us and we look forward to staying there again. Brilliant host's,fantastic food, great location.
Review 74:We could not fault anything.
Review 75:The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The property was modern and clean. Good choice for breakfast and nicely cooked. Ate other meals there a few times and each time the food was excellent.
Review 76:Lack of facilities Needs cleaned cobwebs in room curtain pole hanging of wall sheet had hole Music from band too loud kept us awake
Review 77:The location and the owners were lovely
Review 78:View out of the window but I was,nt in room much. Short lead on hair dryer. Car parking could be a problem if you were up late.
Review 79:Friendly reception. Comfortable bed. Good location. Excellent breakfast.
Review 80:Breakfast included in price however chef called in sick and no breakfast available at desired time- pre departure Staff did phone and apologise later in day however. Do discount offered for any future visit.
Review 81:Staff were very polite and helpfull
Review 82:Although all was fine I always like to see my room before I pay my money and in this case I was asked to pay as soon as I walked in the door. NO residents bar as we were told Bar closed and needed to protect their License. Having worked in this bussiness thought this strange but no big deal.
Review 83:Really enjoyed Saturday night with the local band and local people who were all great singers. Also people all very friendly. like it states 5 mins walk to town centre and 10mins to the Park for a lovely walk around. Not 5 star but Good Place. D&L and all staff were great.
Review 84:Tiled bathroom had no heating! Too cold to take a shower! At least on a very cold January morning! Or did I miss something!
Review 85:Location was good . Food in bar was good. Staff were pleasant.
Review 86:internet
Review 87:staffs are very friendly and helpful. facilities are great for being located in the old town however the only thing that i didnt like, of course just as any other hotels i stayed,is wifi. bad internet quality but all the rest is great. i would recommend this hotel to anyone
Review 88:Unfortunately our bedroom was right above the pub and that night was particularly loud! As a result we couldn't sleep all night. The morning after we were particularly in a rush and we had to have a quick breakfast and we couldn't have a fry... Unfortanety the kitchen didn't have brioches or pancakes even if they were on the menu! As a result we spent money for a b&b where we couldn't sleep or eat!
Review 89:The bedroom was clean and the staff quite friendly. We were very close to the city center.
Review 90:I did'nt like leaving !!
Review 91:Lovely place to stay & grub was nom nom, also had 2 portions chic wings later on in the evening durning the darts. Would b back in a heart beat..
Review 92:from the time we arrived until the time we left the staff could not have been any more helpful. The food was excellent and the location was central 5min walk to town.
Review 93:The location was excellent for a gig at the TF event centre. It is ideal for shopping. There is free car parking at the back. The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to help. The breakfast was excellent with a great choice and the service of the waitress and her friendliness was very good. Both myself and my two friends would have no hesitation recommending here and hope to be back in the future. Marie - Co. Clare
Review 94:A lovely welcome. Comfortable room with double bed and bunk beds, tea/coffee facilities, tv, wifi, very large bath room. As for the breakfast, the choice was great and very tasty.
Review 95:If I had one complaint to make it would be that we had no view from our room, it was looking out onto a roof but for the length of time we were there it didn't really matter.
Review 96:The Connaught Inn is a lovely, homely, friendly place to visit. We had food there after we booked in and it was beautifully presented and tasted just as good. Staff were extremely friendly and very helpful with directions etc. The town in general is very friendly with a good nightlife and good shopping.
Review 97:No hand soap in the bathroom or bin in the room.
Review 98:Wifi throughout.. good menu for a fresh cooked breakfast and available up until 12! Being escorted to and shown around the room was a nice touch.
Review 99:Only thing id add is puting a chair and mirror at the desk for us ladies to do our makeup
Review 100:Great staff.very inviting a d chatty. Great breakfast in the morning. Lovely big comfortable bed.our room was at the front of the building and we didnt hear anything all night. Car park at rear is good. Come and go access to the rooms is great. Clean open bathroom.
Review 101:The people that ran this place were very friendly and made our one night stay very Pleasant, Food in bar very good and good value for money, very child friendly.
Review 102:Since there was a few people staying having breakfast it would be more easier and organised to have tables set with cups saucers cutlery Jam and butter . H ave a jug of juice for self service.
Review 103:We enjoy our stay and our breakfast was nice.
Review 104:No fresh fruit or yoghurt available for breakfast
Review 105:Walking distance from the station and the hospital (which was the reason for my visit to Castlebar). Staff were friendly
Review 106:The room was nice and comfy staff were brilliant and real friendly couldnt be any more helpful even if they tried. Food was great . Great value for money would stay again.
Review 107:The Connaught Inn is a fantastic place to stay. Very friendly and professional staff, excellent food and extremely comfortable rooms. We would highly recommemd this accomodation and location. There are lots of bars and good places to eat, although the food is so good at The Connaught my husband and I ate there and only went out in town for food on the last evening to Bosh..the food was also good there too. The entertainment on the Saturday night was great and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Castlebar town is full of very friendly people..we went to Mick Byrnes pub and were given free shots both nights by the most welcoming owner and also visited Jonny Mc Hales pub and Matt Molloys in Westport. We visited the country museum at Turlough and walked around the harbour at Westport..stunning views and again friendly people and pleasant and professional staff in the restaurants. For the shoppers there are great shops and boutiques for all. We would not hesitate to travel here again and would definitely stay at The Connaught Inn...great location, accomodation, food and people.
Review 108:Breakfast starts at 8am, 7.30am would be better on weekdays bar / eating was seperate ( next door) from accommodation & I could not gain access until 8.15am as the breakfast person was late.
Review 109:Friendly atmosphere, central location, food was good and good value,
Review 110:When we went to check in around 7.30 pm I was left waiting for 15 mins as they had to check if there were sufficient towels which seemed like an excuse as there were only one person serving food, managing bar and same lady showed us our room when a guy appeared for a few mins to do the bar.Could not get wifi on either phones or iPad, asked member of bar staff and she told me there must be a problem with it, something I already knew. I had mentioned that we had to visit someone in hospital and and were in a hurry she told me we could check in later which I declined but she continued serving other customers. The following morning we overheard some visitors looking to check in and the girl repied they would have to come back after 3 as its seems when breakfast is over the same person cleans out the rooms.
Review 111:Nice clean place very comfortable. decorated nicely and breakfast cooked and presented excellently. Band playing in the bar from 10-12 which were very good.
Review 112:Not that I didn't like it but the bed lining wasn't ironed it was very ceased and there was no bin in the bedroom only a small one in the bathroom. there was only one set of towels but I am sure if we had asked for another set it wouldn't have been a bother
Review 113:We liked the friendliness and felt welcomed. The accommodation was clean and the best thing was even though it is a B&B and not a hotel there was all the toiletries and hair dryer needed. The food was excellent and we will stay there again as we had a wonderful evening.
Review 114:If there was anything to criticise then maybe the smell of disinfectant as you walk into the breakfast place first thing in the morning...
Review 115:The staff was very friendly, the atmosphere and the food fantastic! We were made feeling welcome and looked after.
Review 116:sweet menu needs looking at .was ok but I think it let down such a great meal
Review 117:great value for your money ,food fab ,and lots of it breakfast do die for all in all very impressed I will be returning very soon
Review 118:The staff were all very pleasant and friendly. Meals were very good from the Irish Breakfast to the superb selection of evening meals. We had a very relaxing stay.
Review 119:We stayed 2nights Fri/Sat. Would of been nice for bed to have been made on the Saturday and towels to be replaced which didn't happened. Also in need of a lick of paint and cleaning of carpets. We stayed in a room at the front onto the street which was noisy especially late in the night.
Review 120:Location in Castlebar was good, Breakfast was nice good choices
Review 121:Bedroom very basic and missing many of the things that are just normal today, such as, a bedside lamp a picture on the wall a floor mat for the shower inside and when you step out Bedroom door was hard to lock The door to access the bedroom block was electric and it didnt release properly. It took about five tries to be able to exit.
Review 122:Food was super People were very friendly Very clean and tidy. Relaxed and informal atmosphere
Review 123:The only thing I didn't like was that there were mugs instead of cups and saucers for breakfast, but that is a very minor point. From the outside, it does look like a pub which was a little surprising, but once you go round the back, there is a lovely courtyard area, the rooms are upstairs and it's very secluded and peaceful.
Review 124:Location is central, very convenient, easy to find, good parking, easy to walk around town from here. Rooms are at back of building, separate entrance, quiet, spacious, perfect for family (kids loved quadruple room with bunk beds). Rooms and facilities to a very high standard. Owners very welcoming and helpful. Very good breakfast, plenty of choice for all. All slept well and really enjoyed stay.
Review 125:Helpful proprieters clean spacious rooms Good dining room ,easy access to local restaurants on foot. Good Wi Fi connection We enjoyed our stay here very much
Review 126:The room was very comfortable, the staff/owners were very friendly and welcoming. The Full Irish breakfast was fantastic. Would fully recommend The Connaught Inn and would definitely intend to visit again.
Review 127:Not much to go to in Town. Only found 1 Italian Restaurant in Chapel Street, for an evening meal. Another restaurant over a pub in Main Street, but very pricey for what looked to be ordinary meals.
Review 128:Good food (breakfast & evening dinner, service, bedroom facilities and welcoming owners & staff. Nice all round hospitality.
