Reviews for Hotel Kea

Review 1:The hotel restaurant was booked for a special event, which was unexpected, but there were lots of other dinner options nearby.

Review 2:Excellent location in downtown Akureyri, convenient to just about everything. Price was very good, especially for a last-minute booking.

Review 3:- Although booking.com says free cancellation but the room price was already charged about 10 days in advance in the creditcard (few days after booking)

Review 4:- Excellent location at the middle of town, greats restaurants nearby. - Great hotel bar atmosphere.

Review 5:The wifi was unworkable.

Review 6:Good location, comfortable room though a little dated in places. Reception staff very helpful and parking easy. The TV itself was amazing however the channels were very limited. Overall a nice place to stay.

Review 7:All in all room was good, just the shower was a little dated and the door didn't close properly.

Review 8:Friendly and helpful staff, best location possible! And great food available on location.

Review 9:Limited parking available could be a problem in summer months.

Review 10:Good hotel stayed two nights, nothing to complain about. The location is great about 500m away from a whale watching boat trip.

Review 11:Only drawback was that it is definitely on the higher price end compared to some more affordable and comfortable guesthouses, but the location and comfort is worth it if you have the money to spend.

Review 12:Excellent service. I had to reschedule a reservation last minute due to unexpected flight changes and they were sincerely understanding and accommodating. Everything was super clean and comfortable and the buffet breakfast was excellent.

Review 13:there was a very unpleseant smell in the bathroom coming out of the tubes...we had to close the door to the bedroon all the time as it is located at the mein street, it was quite noisy

Review 14:central location

Review 15:Let's be honest: this hotel is ok but it's not a 4 star hotel. No sir. I have traveled a lot in my life and I know a thing or two about standards. I adapted very well and my stay was nice but when I book a 4 star and pay 250 euros per night I expect value for my money. The room was tiny, hardly space to move with two big suitcases. The toilets were small and non-sense, with a tiny shower and not even a shelf to put shampoo and bath foam on while showering. Breakfast had poor selection. This should be rated 3 star and cost 50 euros less, even for Icelandic prices. Then it would be fairly priced.

Review 16:Location was great. The room was comfortable and clean. The staff was helpful. Free wifi in the room.

Review 17:Nothing really.

Review 18:This hotel is in a perfect location for visiting lovely Akureyri. The staff was friendly and welcoming, allowing us to check in early and upgrading our room for no apparent reason. We deeply appreciated that, having fled our prevuous (awful) hotel a few hours away without having had breakfast or even proper showers. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable and our stay was very pleasant. We will definitely return to Hotel Kea again. I can't rate the breakfast highly, but that's partly a matter of taste; the typical Icelandic hotel breakfast buffet contains little that appeals to us and this one was no exception in that regard.

Review 19:Nothing to telle...everything was perfect.

Review 20:Excellent hotel in the center of Akureyri...close to everything....many places to eat and a lot of things to see....one of my favourite places to be in.

Review 21:Even for a single room it was small and cramped. Getting in and out of the shower was a bit of a struggle. On previous occasions I'd been given a much larger room. Using the Internet was a challenge as the complimentary wi-fi was slow and the signal was weak. The hotel only has 4 or 5 car-parking spaces immediately outside so you'll probably be directed to a public car park around the corner.

Review 22:Last-minute booking as I needed to stop in Akureryi for one night due to the horrendous weather. The hotel is in a good location and, thankfully, was easy to find. A comfortable bed guaranteed a good night's sleep and a wonderful breakfast the following morning was most welcome.

Review 23:I did not like the weird situation with the electricity! Whenever I'd go to shut off the lights, my electricity next to my night stand would go out, meaning I could not power my laptop or iphone. Therefore I needed to charge it in another place. Very frustrating!!

Review 24:I loved the location, the staff was friendly and the views were really awesome!

Review 25:Due to extremely awful weather, we had a really bad accident in the mountains with the car, the only contact I had was the hotel's reception number, who immediately informed the police, and get us rescued. As a result, we had to stay in Akureyri till late the next day but the hotel staff was kind enough letting us stay until we got all the things sorted. To mention especially one receptionist, Kristine made everything go smooth after the accident and get us back to Reykjavik by making several phone calls, and getting us all the info needed. I just would like to thank all of them for the help and being so friendly and understanding!

Review 26:Centrally located with friendly professional staff and a clean pleasant room. Excellent European-style breakfast included in the price of the room which is a valuable plus considering restaurant prices in Iceland. Takk firir, Hotel Kea.

Review 27:We enjoyed our brief stay at Hotel Kea.. it's location is central to everything with very good restaurants and shops within a short walk (if not right across the street). It's also close to the harbor for nice strolling. I would definitely stay here again.

Review 28:So good we wanted to stay another night. They accommodated us no problem for the same rate. No increase in rate for extra night without pre-booking like hotel hilton.

Review 29:The breakfast! After the scant offerings of several other places I stayed it was great to have a full range of breakfast menu including sausage egg etc. The only relay great breakfast I had in Iceland. the hotel is in the best location in town with plenty of parking outside. very happy I stayed there.

Review 30:The decor in the room is slightly dated (like 1970-1980s), but it was still attractive and very clean.

Review 31:The best part was the great location right at the main intersection of downtown Akureyri, just steps away from the landmark church, the art center, the main shopping street, and restaurants. The included breakfast was quite good, certainly on par with others we had at similar hotels. The staff was very helpful. They were able to store our luggage for a couple of hours after we checked out, while we saw some downtown sights. The price was an excellent value, especially given the premium location and excellent service. I read another review that complained about noise from the street, but we had no such problem. But this may have been because we stayed on a Tuesday night.

Review 32:Every now and then, the 4th floor hallway would smell awful (maybe from kitchen ventilation?). The stairs have low ceiling between 3rd and 4th floors, and my 6' husband hit the top of his head on it.

Review 33:Included breakfast was full of cold and hot options. Location. Comfortable beds. Reliable wifi. Lively location during town festival but did get loud at times from the bands performing.

Review 34:Confusing layout of the hotel. Got flight of steps to overcome before reaching your room at another wing and a separate lift you need to take in order to reach other rooms in another wing.

Review 35:Location is great. Right at the city centre. Room is reasonably sized, but if you have 2 large suitcase, you will find it a bit cramp.

Review 36:A bit of late night noise from the street on my water-facing room. Closing the windows and the curtains helped quite a bit.

Review 37:Comfy room. Helpful staff. Unusually fast and reliable wifi for Iceland.

Review 38:The breakfast room and the breakfast was extremely unpleasant. We left and went to a cafe right near the hotel. Avoid the breakfast if you are not in a budget.

Review 39:Location was a perfect in town location with free parking in the bus parking lot.

Review 40:Made a reservation by accident on wrong day and immediately called and asked to change (they had the room) and they said they would charge me for the original date regardless, so I had to switch my itinerary around because of them.

Review 41:Nice location in the center of town.

Review 42:Given a room near the lifts which was noisy at times, and room setup wasn't for a solo traveller.

Review 43:Central location - can't miss the Hotel Kea on the main street! Great buffet breakfast and comfortable hotel standard room.

Review 44:Akureyri could use more snow-removal machines.

Review 45:Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Dinner was tasty. Breakfast was scrumptious and generous.

Review 46:The crew were nice. Breakfast is really good. Near the shopping area.

Review 47:Great location.

Review 51:Beautiful location

Review 52:Bathroom (especially shower) could use a better cleaning with some bleach.

Review 53:Great location close to restaurants and tourist shops. Good breakfast.

Review 54:None

Review 55:Speed of reception

Review 56:Very small and outdated bathroom, could barely fit in the shower. The hotel and the rooms need some renovation.

Review 57:Location

Review 59:shower small

Review 60:front desk made us sandwiches for the road

Review 61:too expensive

Review 62:excellent restaurant for dinner

Review 63:Hotel staff great, couldn't stay for breakfast so they gave us breakfast to go. Nice location,in downtown, nice rooms.

Review 75:Wi fi was erratic

Review 76:Location ,value

Review 77:The beds are amazing. Very good located in the center. Great and helpful staff. Just perfect! Love it.

Review 85:The room was a bit dated and not very clean.

Review 86:The location, in the centre of Akureyri!

Review 87:Really central. Lots of restaurants around.

Review 88:Parking is a challenge

Review 89:-Right in the center of town in walking distance to everything, very friendly staff, excellent restaurant, large rooms

Review 90:small room

Review 91:friendly staff, good location, good breakfast,

Review 92:It was a excellent stay.

Review 93:Honestly it was exactly what I expected/hoped for. After seeing the other options, I will always recommend Hotel Kea.

Review 94:Hotel is right in the middle of the city, so perfect location. We were able to walk to all the best restaurants. High end hotel, nice rooms and a warming towel rack which was amazing during our snowy stay. Perfect place for tours to pick up and drop off, everyone knows where the hotel is. The breakfast spread was immense, protein options, pastries, and traditional Icelandic options all available. Parking was also very easy, which is huge if you're driving the country!

Review 95:During the night (weekend) it's very very noisy. There are lot of drunken people shouting around and driving like idiots up the street. We didn't sleep a lot....

Review 96:Our room was tiny, very cramped feeling and terrible views. Breakfast could be better.

Review 97:Location was great, right in the center of the town. Busy bar at the weekends.

Review 98:Not enough clear information about local interests and sites to see.

Review 99:Good location. Helpful staff. Good comfortable size room for a solo traveller. Good food.

Review 100:Service skills and hospitality from front desk staff are not as expected from a place of this standard. Lack of parking places close by during weekends.

Review 101:Location and room facilities are very nice, the room was clean and nicely decorated and had a mini bar, town view and comfortable beds. Breakfast was good.

Review 102:The double bed was actually... twin beds!

Review 103:The location is perfect and the hotel offers many services. The restaurant staff was kind and able to adapt their menu for vegetarians upon request.

Review 104:Good breakfast, great service, nice atmosphere and the staff will do anything to make your stay great. Including fixing your prepaid room if weather prevents you from coming

Review 105:Service/staff at the restaurant was very slow to not existent, especially at breakfast. The bathroom was quite dated and the shower small and mouldy.

Review 106:The location with a view over the harbour was nice. Would only recommend it due to lack of choice though.

Review 107:Nothing

Review 108:Front desk staff were an excellent source of information and assistanceon details concerning Akureyri. Kudos to Gunnar. We felt that we weretreated like family. Enjoyed our.stay at Hotel Kea. Your life style mayreturn with us to become part of our way of living.

Review 109:Uncomfortable pillows. We stayed a couple of days and everymorning breakfast included exactly the same products, it would be nice to have smth different + what we didn' t personally like that eggs were cold and already peeled. This is a minor flaw but for me - gluten intolerant It will allow to have more choice for breakfast.

Review 110:The location could not be more convenient-in the heart of city center, 3 min walking to the shops and cafes, close to the old town, nice swimming pool 5 min away, near the church. Staff was friendly, breakfast was served.

Review 111:the room was too hot, the bathroom was way too small, especially the shower, lack of parking

Review 112:Location was good, staff was friendly, main part of the room was nice

Review 113:The hotel is centrally located and has a very nice outdoor cafe at the end of the shopping street with views to the harbor and up to the Akureyri church. The reception staff were very helpful. We arrived early and they arranged to have our room ready in 20 minutes.
