Reviews for Breaffy House Hotel and Spa

Review 1:The shower wasn't working, so we had to get maintenance to fix it.. The layout of the hotel was very spread out, parts of the hotel were very cold

Review 2:The staff were very friendly.. The staff in the spa were also very friendly, helpful and had a lot of information

Review 3:The rooms were quite cold. No heating on in the corridor or bedroom. we stayed 2nd January

Review 4:Staff wonderful, very inviting athmosphere, hotel is beautifully decorated on very peaceful grounds

Review 5:heating didnt work in bedroom, tried to contact reception without success, shower didnt work either. When we did eventually get someone we got moved to a different room. Staff in the hotel werent overly friendly especially in the restaurant

Review 6:The food was excellent couldnt fault it, pool was lovely and clean

Review 7:Bar food was below average. Breakfast was too expensive at 12:50 each. It was a very quiet time of year and for a Thursday night it was ridiculous.

Review 8:Location was good

Review 9:My Wife tried to contact me by phoning hotel. could not get an answer. I mentioned to reception what had happened and I was told that they had a party of guests celebrating and may not have been able to answer phone. After 11 pm night porter has a phone with them at all times though they may have been busy with guests at hotel when my Wife was trying to call.

Review 10:food was good and service good

Review 11:Not really a bad experience as such; but (A) Too many TVs in the bar , even at night they are all on, sound down but still very distracting; My Wife & I do not go to a bar to watch TV & (B) Gym not available & on Saturday the Steam Room was unbearably HOT & (C) could not turn down / Off the Heat in the Bedroom; must be some way to regulate Room Temperature

Review 12:Staff very friendly; Food excellent; a great buzz around the place; Leisure centre very good overall; And, of course the GUINNESS most enjoyable

Review 13:Difficulty finding room in not good with lifts so locating leisure centre confusing but minor detail really

Review 14:Staff very courteous and friendly and very accommodating . Lads in bar chatty and helpful

Review 15:Advised on the way, that there was no leisure facilities available that day. There was no water in the bath or shower. Told that there was a plumber coming in a hour, had to ask for another room, which was provided. The layout was a bit confusing also.

Review 16:The upgrade was nice but a lot of noise on the corridor during the night.

Review 17:I understand this is to be refurbished starting last Sunday afternoon, but toilets in Ladies swimming pool area were dirty, changing room was grubby with NO private changing rooms.

Review 18:Bedrooms clean and spacious. Food good and staff very efficient and helpful. Would come again to stay and keen to try the refurbished swimming pool and sauna area.

Review 19:The staff in this hotel were brilliant. one staff member was excellent in the restaurant her name was Tanya she was able to deal with 3 r 4 things at the same time. The rooms are so clean and tidy and the location is excellent we will be back as soon as we possible can. We stayed in a suite and it was an unbelievable room with everything anyone could possible as for.

Review 20:The room was poorly decorated with ingress of damp on the wall at the window. The tiling in the bathroom was terrible and the shower curtain looked ancient. There was no safe in the room and there was a stuffy smell.

Review 21:The staff were friendly and helpful. The building is impressive and the surroundings peaceful.

Review 22:Any of the staff we spoke with were very friendly. We particularly liked the fact that the live music in the bar wasn't over powering, we could enjoy the music while chatting to each other. I have stayed in far too many hotels where we have had to sit in the foyer because the music in the bar is too loud so this is a definite plus.

Review 23:People up all night shouting in the coradoor kept up awake all night and in the morning when the people next door were having a shower it was like a waterfall next to our bed

Review 24:Very clean and staff helpful

Review 25:Nothing that would prevent us from staying here again.

Review 26:Great location for travel around Co Mayo and Co Galway. Great comfort food in Healy Mac's Bar. Very good value for a luxury property at this time of year.

Review 27:TV did not work in room .water was brown in Bath , room was not as nice as previous room I stayed in . Big stain on carpet.

Review 28:Lovely pool, nice outside. Staff nice .

Review 29:Long walk to room and no assistace offered with luggage.

Review 30:Spacious room, quiet location and onsite bar and restaurant. Great location for visiting Knock and Croagh Patrick.

Review 31:Dated room decor, old box style telly, remote missing a battery cover, dent in the wall, small details but important overall. Breakfast was just ok, OJ was like diluted orange, not particurarly good value.

Review 32:Nice bar, attractive surroundings, quiet room. Attentive and friendly staff.

Review 33:Beautiful location, friendly and helpful staff, food was good. The room was a little tired but spotlessly clean, plenty of tea and coffee in the room, shower powerful.

Review 34:The room we were in was really noisey,We did not get a full nights sleep for the 3 nights we stayed. When we complained the staff said we only have tourists in and they are quiet, she forgot about the wedding on sat night when all the guests were up until 5am.The doors constantly bang shut as no soft closers are fitted ..We would NEVER stay in this place EVER .

Review 35:The pool was brilliant, and very helpful staff. The breakfast was very nice

Review 36:Room a little dated but it's making changes and looks to be going in the right direction.

Review 37:Came for a family wedding and had a great time. Fast WiFi and food very good. Stayed here two years ago and it's was total different. All new management and looks to be doing well.

Review 38:Booked family hotel room, on arrival were put in lodge. Did not rate lodge, was dirty cold and impersonal. Had to complain to be put back in room.

Review 39:Breakfast good, swimming pool good.

Review 40:Room distance from reception. Lift was out from one floor to the next on one night and check out so had to carry cases up stairs and down more..

Review 41:Lovely location and oldstyle hotel with modern twist.

Review 42:Having to go home. Couldn't fault one thing.

Review 43:We were up for a family wedding and from check in the staff were fantastic including Cathal, Daire and all the bar staff. Food was AMAZING. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Review 44:Room was dated, no steam extraction in the bathroom, toilet ran continuosly and tap in sink dripped. When taking a shower the curtain kept blowing in a sticking to me. Extensive paint peeled off bathroom door. Light switch had a mind of its own and worst of all our quilt had brown stains all over it which was covered by a throwover and we didnt see it till leaving. We had dinner with a group in the restaurant on first night and it was poor for 30e each way overpriced. I would never stay here again and definitely not recommend it to any of my friends

Review 45:The carpet fitters who were fitting carpet on both days were very friendly which couldnt be said about the staff.

Review 46:Changing rooms and shower/toilet area very dirty at swimming pool. Should be cleaned at more regular intervals during busy weeks. However, the staff at pool desk were best in the hotel, v friendly and helpful every time.

Review 47:Astro turf, games room, crazy golf (v small) and leisure centre perfect for my 12 year old.

Review 48:I thought the mattress was a little uncomfortable, but I DO have a bad back so this did not bother me too much.

Review 49:The staff are so friendly, the rooms clean & spacious, the grounds are beautiful, the Spa is definitely worth a visit, the Kids Club is 'so fun' (according to 8 Year Old), the food is great, the bar is lovely; I could go on... but put simply, Breaffy House is BRILLIANT!

Review 50:Room very dated and dark but this room obviously hasn't been updated yet as saw some beautiful rooms on way to pool. Lamp beside bed didn't work properly. Bar staff though very friendly , were also very inefficient.Plates left uncleared and glasses not collected for quiet some time from several locations around the bar, seating areas and lobby.

Review 51:Food in Healy Macs very good but fish and chips just average. Temp in pool was lovely. Loved the grounds and very friendly staff. House keeping staff very efficient and friendly.

Review 52:- You can hear everything in the room next door - Very Old elevators - Horrible music when having breakfast, had to ask staff to turn it down as I couldn't even talk to my family.

Review 53:Location Nice building from outside Plenty of Parking on site

Review 54:No bad experience but staff in bar a little inexperienced, no cutlery set on table, when requested one knife/fork brought when 4 at table. Food passed to nearest seated to pass on rather than delivered directly. When asked for dessert told kitchen closed. None of these major but perhaps a little training would help.

Review 55:Grounds, good bar menu range.

Review 56:Our family room was lovely bright and spacious, very quiet, clean and comfortable. We had a splash around in the pool which was very well supervised with several lifeguards. The staff were so friendly and we enjoyed a really tasty meal in the bar. We had booked just one night to break up the journey from cork to Donegal, this hotel is very family friendly and we wish we could have stayed longer.

Review 57:Room was dreary and dated and bathroom dated also not in line with the architecture of the house . Carpets to room and corridors dreadful .

Review 58:Food was lovely and staff in Restaurant were v welcoming , Chefs homemade wheaten bread was amazing .

Review 59:Wine was brought to table in an ice bucket..just left on the table...not opened no napkin for handling..not poured...had to seek assistance....more staff training required Breakfast was not worth the money as the quality was poor. I was not told it was self service until I got up and asked for a menu.

Review 60:Dinner was good Staff friendly Room comfortable Reception helpful

Review 61:Food and drink service in the bar seemed a bit chaotic for others. I got served very quickly and food (seafood chowder) was fine, but others complained when my food arrived because they had been waiting a long time.

Review 62:Swimming pool open late in the evening and early in the morning. So I got a swim on arrival after 7 pm and again at 7 am next day. One night business trip

Review 63:apart from having to pay extra for breakfast everything was perfect

Review 64:we booked our stay through booking .com but did not pay for breakfast until arrival when i was told i had to pay extra because i had not pre booked it.

Review 65:Receptionist quite flippant about lost property didn't feel she took it seriously and was disappointed. Found it later with the help of dining room staff.

Review 66:Size of bedroom and breakfast staff

Review 67:The staff are lacking in customer service not one member of staff spoke to us or even smiled for the 3 days we were there . We had dinner the first night in the bar restaurant our menus were dropped onto the table the waitress came back 30 minutes later to take our order , the menu said the food was all fresh believe me it wasn't , we had to ask for water for the table we had to ask for cutlery it was a disgrace. The rooms were very basic and the beds are hard and lumpy. The lift to the rooms was so small we couldn't fit the baby's parm into it , not one member of staff came to assist us . The second night there was a party in the pub and people were smoking in the bar . This is supposed to be a child friendly hotel in my opinion it needs to be downgraded .our first trip away with our grandkids should have been spectacular but this hotel let us down big time . I will not be recommending to anyone

Review 68:Nothing

Review 69:bed not made on our last night very noisy in bar area room a long way from reception requested room on ground floor did not get it

Review 70:friendly helpfull staff good food

Review 71:The Breakfast staff, in The Woods need to be made aware thatcustomer's are the reason they have a job some of them were chattingaway behind the counter of food which was not the most appetising, oblivious to the fact people were waiting.. Sausages were disgustingshrivelled up as they were there so long. I would like to see some fruitsalad that didn't come out of a tin. The attitude of your barmanager on the Sunday night rude to staff, and customers alike. Reportedhim to duty manager and he shut the bar without notice, the bar was fulland newly crowned over 18 Irish world championship winners who werestaying in the hotel, arrived in after a weekend long dancing wereunable to get a celebration drink. There was also a group from a weddingwho were there since Friday, having had their reception on Sat,including the bride and groom who were refused a beverage. This wasbrought to the attention of the night porter as apparently the dutymanager had gone home and neither he nor the bar man could say who wasin charge of the whole complex not good at all..... Especially wheneventually they reopened the bar telling your customers that we werebreaking the law????? We spent a considerable amount of money during ourstay, over e1000 for 2 room's for 3 adults 2 children between roomand food. We stayed last year and I have to say things have slipped bigtime since then. Not Happy at all.

Review 72:Receptionist who checked us in was very professional the hotel was fullybooked and our room's were wrong she had it sorted within the hour. The food in your updated bar was delicious and the décor fab.

Review 73:Bar in breaffy house not comfy or really for kids but excellent for adults grounds main need drainage for rainy weather

Review 74:Everything kids club entertainment was excellent best I've ever seen, pool great grounds lovely free mini golf staff excellent room very spacious

Review 75:From the moment we walked through the door the staff were extremely accommodating. Made to feel at home straight away. Quality of food was excellent. Would definitely stay again.

Review 76:The room service menu was limited especially if you are trying to get young children to sleep and want to have a meal around 9pm in the room service.

Review 77:We enjoyed the facilities as young family. The children's club was very good and plenty of events and activities in the hotel and surrounding areas which accepted the discount offered which was a nice addition.

Review 78:The house bedrooms could do with modernisation and freshening up also the crazy golf needs to be revamped very tired looking.

Review 79:The space around the house for walking etc

Review 80:Very noisy room which I had checked and was offered an alternative room. Becuse it was late and because my husband is recovering from an illness we decided to stay in original room. Next morning the noise started up again at 10 minutes past six. I presume it was the kitchen fan at fault!!

Review 81:Update of hotel and friendlyness of staff

Review 82:Room near reception was somewhat outdated and doors are loud.

Review 83:Staff very nice and helpful, live music every night, grounds are beautiful, Healy Mac food is great! Spa had great gym, pool, sauna and steam room.

Review 84:Had to wait over an hour for dinner in the bar but it's only opened and there's just a few teething problems which im sure will be sorted the manager couldn't have been more apologetic and gave us a complimentary drink but the food was fab and worth the wait

Review 85:Food was fabulous hotel so clean and well kept this was my 2nd year here and have booked again for next year

Review 86:Nothing to dislike. All good

Review 87:Renovations were in progress with little to no inconvenience to guests. The improvements made were lovely and when complete should really be great. The staff were helpful and friendly and perfectly positioned to explore the north western area of Ireland which we loved.

Review 88:We ordered food from the bar and were left waiting 45 minutes for it to arrive and when it did 2/4 dinners were cold and we were given no apology for the lateness of the food when people around us had come ate and were gone after we had ordered. Staff were not very pleasant.

Review 89:The room was big with a double bed and 2 single beds

Review 90:One feels like a princess looking out of the turrent in the castle like hotel; Scenic surroundings with brreathtaking views; Lovely area with much to see. The hotel was fantastic . Loved every moment..

Review 91:great place to stay at the start of a west of Ireland tour. beautiful and extensive grounds. meals excellent quality and value. staff fixed a room allocation problem for us. all rooms are good but prefer to stay in the old section. great to see refurbishment works in the grounds.

Review 92:The price of the restaurant was far too much. That is why we chose the bad instead.

Review 93:The pool and leisure facilities were fantastic. And the bar and food were amazing aswell as breakfast.

Review 94:Lots of improvements going on.Cement mixer started at 7.30 am! First room offered very tired and a long way from main hotel. Second room slightly better but a long way from luxurious.

Review 95:Staff very pleasant and helpful. Rooms clean but badly in need of an upgrade.

Review 96:Food, unless you received it as it came out, tends to be only slightly warm or cold. The fried eggs are swimming in fat and look inedible. The staff in the Breakfast Room were efficient and polite.

Review 97:Staff in the bar were excellent, efficient, courteous and fast. Some staff on front desk were very helpful but not all of them. And being as they are the first point of contact, there is not much point of going to the great expense of upgrading Breaffy House if the majority of staff on the desk are not that efficient.

Review 98:The games Room was not open for the kids when we went. We weee expecting live music in the restaurant which was not to be....

Review 99:Excellent location, worth spending quality time with your family.

Review 100:As we approached Reception to check out , the receptionist popped amorsel of food into her mouth and then asked us for the room number. Wefound that Hilarious , it is indicative of the laissez faire training insome hotels. We went for a midday drink , the barman started filling thepint of Guinness and ten minutes later, we were still waiting for him totop it up. Just a few little things that could be tightened up with somein house TRAINING>

Review 101:There is a certain luxury about the Breaffy Hotel , It is set inbeautiful surroundings and the suite was large and comfortable. The Barstaff try hard to please and the breakfast was good. The Dinner menu atless than 30 Euro looked liked good value but one would need aGargantuan Appetite to get through the three courses. Bar One in thecentre of the town is a good place to eat.

Review 102:A lot of building work going on. But future looks good. Now privately owned and obviously a lot being invested. Hotel rather a maze!

Review 103:The pub within the hotel, staff excellent food scrumptious!

Review 104:Table cloths on the table we were shown to in the breakfast room was not clean despite other tables being available. Lift system for elderly parents going from one floor to another was poorly laid out with people having to walk between lifts to go up a floor in order to come back down in another lift.

Review 105:Friendly staff, excellent swimming pool. Evening meal in the bar had good portion sizes.

Review 106:Booking system did not correctly handle the booking. Check-in staff fixed it without fuss but the problem also caused bill to be incorrect. Also resolved when I produced my copy of the booking signed off by the check-in staff.

Review 107:Very helpful staff resolved all problems without fuss. Large crowd handled very efficiently.

Review 108:Having to wait 1 hour 40 minutes for meal sitting at the bar. Also looking at elderly people having to queue at bar for 20 minutes just to pay a bill.No apologies from bar staff, but did get one from lady at reception when leaving. Never again! !!!!

Review 109:Leaving

Review 110:Cot had no mattress - baby slept in pram. Waiter gave table to a couple, when they went to the buffet, showed another couple to the same table. Hot breakfast needs more than one server.

Review 111:Was a guest at a wedding. We liked the theatrical serving of the head table. The young waters / waitresses generally tried very hard to please. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Review 112:Leisure centre, children's activities face painting and the disco in the woods hotel, this was great fun will def return over the summer as there are providing activities for the children every Sat and Sun for July and August wish all hotels could provide these activities for children, great bonus...

Review 113:On Saturday and Sunday there was no "child free zone" and the hotel was full of noisy running children. The bar was packed and noisy. The availability of a quiet area would have changed my rating and the staff need to be better trained. Grumpy check out without any question such as "how was your stay?"

Review 114:the entrance to the hotel is wonderful, the grounds are attractive, the room was spacious. It has the potential to be 5*

Review 115:Decor a bit dated, everything looking a bit tired, old TVs in rooms. Simple task of refreshing the water and glasses in room wasn't done by housekeeping, took an hour to get a fresh jug of water and glasses sent up to the room. Breakfast was mediocre. Swimming pool nothing to rave about!

Review 116:Nice grounds, bar is ok

Review 117:Some rooms are a bit of a trek from the reception area, but I was offered a hand with my bags upon check in by a very friendly receptionist. Also the hotel did not have notification of my booking upon arrival but again the receptionist sorted me out a room with no hastle. There is still some renovations being carried out at the hotel but any disturbance is minimal.

Review 118:Hotel reception area, bar and rooms are very well kept and comfortable. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 119:Remodeling caused noise but hotel did notify us beforehand. Light bulb was out and heater did not function. A portable heater was supplied but was told that maintenance couldn't replace bulb until 6am.

Review 120:We have nothing bad to say about the Hotel

Review 121:Every thing about the hotel was first class We could not say anything bad about it We will stay there again

Review 122:The shower was too near the sink. Water goin on it . Rest brill

Review 123:Rooms are spotless , Breakfast yummy so much different varieties. Dinner amazing. Let my hair down with fiance. shower is classy , Loved each day, not far from shops and church for mass. Staff are wonderful. Leisure facilities are amazing walked alot. Enjoyed quality time in pool and jacuzzi with my sweetheart. Great thing was I wasn't seperated from my fiance getting changed for swimming , can lock door. Safer.

Review 124:The watef was brown so we moved hotels manager was no help3 at all will never be back had to argue with him as he wanted to charge the full price for 1 night even when told we could'nt shower wash or brush our teeth

Review 125:The hotel is having some building work done at the moment, we had no prior notice to this. It didn't help matters when they were still working at 10:30pm after we had a long day travelling.

Review 126:The hotel is very grand with lots of character.

Review 127:Having previously stayed in a suite I booked a suite again. However, I found that the standard of this one, Room 240, was far far inferior to the one I previously stayed in. Room 240 is in essence a large double room, which in itself was absolutely fine, but I was quite disappointed when I had been expecting something similar to the standard of my previous stay. I raised this issue upon checking out and was told that the room in question was indeed classed as a suite and thus satisfied the criteria of my booking. Despite this, I will return again but I will be more specific next time.

Review 128:Was visiting the Spa, which was wonderful, so decided to stay for the night. Had previously stayed here and was very pleased with the overall experience. Nice food and good atmosphere in the bar. Comfortable bed and spotless room.

Review 129:The hotel was undergoing renovation so not all facilities were up to scratch. Some of the hotel rooms are very far away from reception-it was a bit of a trek down to breakfast / with luggage

Review 130:Hotel was okay, staff were friendly. Food in bar was good. Plenty of towels in bathroom.

Review 131:Nothing bad.

Review 132:Although the hotel was having a lot of renovation work done at the time of our visit, it didn't detract from our enjoyment. The pool and spa facilities were an excellent bonus. We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely book to stay again.

Review 133:my room was very badly decorated very dated.. swimming pool charges for locker and also you had to pay for a swimming cap as you weren't allowed in the pool without one. Breakfast wasn't good. A lot of tinned fruit and the fry was awful

Review 134:I loved the look of the hotel from the outside

Review 135:There was nothing we didn't like We were well looked after how could you complain

Review 136:We really enjoyed our stay it was very relaxing Food was excellent Hotel was very clean especially as work is being carried out at the moment

Review 137:The only down side was they were decorating which we didn't know about before we arrived

Review 138:The kids loved the outdoor areas. They love football so the astroturf pitch was fab for them. The staff were all very helpful.

Review 139:A maze to find your room (construction site within the house), room was hot but the heating did not cool down, handling of the bath still a mystery to me, tv-set from the last century

Review 140:Very nice sorroundings, very spacious rooms
