Currarevagh House descritpion

In this Victorian country manor, romantically situated on 180 acres of private woodland, you can enjoy 4-star quality accommodations on the shores of Lough Corrib.
Built by the present owner’s ancestors in 1842, it is still run more like a private country house than as a hotel. As such, the tranquil informality lends itself to those seeking relaxing days in a true Irish country house. It offers an oasis of privacy for guests in an idyllic, undisturbed natural environment, providing exceptional personal service with a high standard of accommodations and old fashioned, traditional character.

Reviews for Currarevagh House

Review 1:Because it is a small property they only offered a set menu for dinner. A la carte was not an option so we did not dine at the there.

Review 2:Henry the owner was very warm, welcoming & helpful. The setting is beautiful right on the lakeshore

Review 3:I cannot rate Currarevagh House highly enough. The experience was one of being a personal guest with all the attentiveness that a caring host would supply. All food was excellent, rooms spacious and comfortable, location peaceful and stunningly beautiful with easy access to the lake. Afternoon tea so welcome on a wet day. In fact on a wet day you can spend happy hours enjoying the pleasures of the house.

Review 4:The house and surrounding property are enchanting. Plenty of day trips and activities to do, but also a great place to relax and read a book by the fire pretending it is 100 years ago... only now with wifi. Don't miss the dining experience.

Review 5:This is a unique experience. Full of real characters, old world service, majestic views, divine food, great treats, intrigue, warmth, comfy old chairs, fires, breakfast served up with the family silver and more. We stayed for 2 nights and wanted to stay for longer. it was sad to say goodbye. There is so much to look forward to each day. You are made to feel special and part of the family while given the privacy and space you need. Has to be one of my top places I have stayed at - and I have been to many many places. The enormous tiger skin on the wall that greets you along with the family lolliping labrador lets you know you are in for a big surprise. For me one was catching a 4.7lb wild trout in the local lake - having never held a fishing rod before in my life. Anything can happen and that is what is remembered about a wonderful holiday.

Review 6:I doubt if there is another country house in Ireland quite like Currarevagh. Henry and his family provide a wonderful hospitality in an old world style.

Review 7:Dress for dinner is now casual, changing with the times. The more formal days were an enjoyable experience.

Review 8:Been going over a number of years and have ALWAYS enjoyed our stays. Food is excellent and the staff friendly and very helpful.

Review 9:This stay was the highlight of our trip to Ireland. The house is located at the edge of Lough Caribe. Picturesque setting, exquisite food cooked by Henry and beautifully presented by the matron of the house, June. This place harkens to a bygone era, gongs denoting dinner at eight, after dinner coffee in the salon by the fire. Thank you to the owners of Currarevagh House.

Review 10:We loved the unbelievably beautiful location! It was just magical. Henry and June couldn't have extended a warmer welcome. The food was extraordinary - too many wonderful things to say in a short paragraph. Next time we're in Ireland we'll plan 7 nights here instead of 2. Special thank you to Mary and her sweet daughter. Each one made us feel like family. So worth the trip!

Review 11:Didn't like having to go downstairs for Internet and no realtv stations

Review 12:I enjoyed the European favor of the hotel. The place was relaxing andfriendly. The food was good and the hospitality warm.

Review 13:The rooms could do with a bit of an update.

Review 14:The location is breathtaking. The staff are friendly and attentive. Will definitely be going back. Haven't had such a good night's sleep in a long time.

Review 15:We really enjoyed our stay and only wish that we had more time there. The interior of the hotel is like a fascinating museum - a throwback to a previous era, with all the original fixtures and fittings of the early 20th century. There was something quite refreshing about the lack of modern technology in the rooms. The hotel's setting is quite fabulous, with breath-taking views and plenty of good walks. The food was simply delicious, with a commendable emphasis on local produce. Above all else, however, we felt the strongest feature of Currarevagh was the friendliness and hospitality of the staff. Above all, Henry's courtesy, good humour and attention to detail made our stay all the more comfortable, which we particularly appreciated given that we have an unpredictable toddler. Nothing was too much trouble. It almost felt as if we were staying with friends. We shall return, if they will have us.

Review 16:No locks. Although we were happy to trust the hotel staff you just never know who else is staying. Everything was safe but it did feel a little risky and some people would not like that!!

Review 17:Excellent service, attentive, smiling, helpful staff, relaxing environment, amazing views and walks, afternoon tea, dinner, breakfast!!!

Review 18:Nothing to dislike.

Review 19:The peace and quiet was wonderful as were the lakeside walks. The afternoon tea was top-class especially compared in price to other locations in the area. Dinner was the best we had in Connemara and again was money well spent. Interesting books to read too.

Review 20:Nothing

Review 21:Warm Irish hospitality, great service and fantastic food. A taste of the past with enough modernity to keep today's travellers happy. A real experience

Review 22:Having to leave!

Review 24:Beautiful location and definitely bring a camera for walking the grounds Delicious food

Review 25:Beautiful old country house, friendly & welcoming.

Review 26:Everything. The owners and staff were delightful, the food and rooms excellent and the fishing superb.

Review 27:Everything! Peace, tranquility, local walks, lake views, the first class food and the hosts hospitality.

Review 28:Great family hospitality. Perfect if you want "to get away from it all".

Review 29:Tasty food, helpful friendly service, home-made marshmallows, and tea by the fire

Review 30:Beautiful manor house on banks of Lough Corrib. Friendly staff, flexible to help us with special travel requirements. Outstanding area (Lough Corrib)

Review 31:The whole. Good atmosphere. Very friendly people made you feel at home. Cuisine excellent and beautifully presented.

Review 32:Everything. Food was especially wonderful.

Review 33:Absolutely nothing.

Review 34:The feel. The friendliness. The food. The fantastic views. The history. The massive and quaint bedroom, and the public rooms. Being embraced by it all - it's a special place - long may it continue!

Review 35:NOTHING

Review 36:As always it was the most welcoming home coming. Even after ten years it is wonderful to know that somethings never change, just get better and better. Henry's welcome and attention to guests' needs, are beyond comparison. The food was so good we ate there ever evening JUST WONDERFUL. We are already planning our next visit Thanks Derek & Susan F.

Review 37:The en suite bathroom was a little basic, otherwise it was very homely .

Review 38:The family made us feel very welcome.although there was a limited menu the quality of the food and cooking was exceptional. We would defiantly like to return and would strongly recommend it to our friends

Review 39:The setting is absolutely beautiful. The house was comfortable and the people were warm and attentive. Food was superb. It was a relaxing and interesting break.

Review 40:The facilities are functional and charming but a bit antiquated. Not a problem for me, but be aware.

Review 41:Wonderful location, beautiful house, very good food, excellent staff.

Review 42:Not for those who like trendy boutique hotels - authentically retro!

Review 43:A place full of character and atmosphere. Wonderful food at breakfast and dinner. Hosts, Henry and Lucy, genuinely friendly and helpful

Review 44:I genuinely can't think of anything I didn't like.

Review 45:Amazing hospitality, food and setting, and the house itself is amazing. Like stepping back in time.

Review 46:Nothing but the fact that we had to leave...

Review 47:What a fabulous place at Lough Corrib/ Connemara. We were warmly welcomed by the owner. Spacious room (room 8), beautiful estate, delicious breakfast. We stayed for three nights and decided to also join for the four course dinners. What a treat, and what a fantastic idea to serve after dinner coffee for everyone at the open fire, so you could get to know the other guests. We certainly enjoyed meeting the others and exchanging travel tips. Fantastic place, especially if you like old fashioned countryhouses, socialising, fishing, delicious food and nature!

Review 48:Bathroom a bit small but that is only is you are being difficult :-)

Review 49:we loved the friendly and very helpful staff, the old school feeling of this fishing guest house! The rooms are charming and the food excellent! We can only recommend it!

Review 50:Add at least one more sign on the road in to know we're still headed in the right direction!

Review 51:Very pleasant experience with an all attentive staff making sure our needs were met. Afternoon tea, a hit. Dinner was fabulous. Hope to return

Review 52:I loved the feel of the place. It was very personal as distinct from an impersonal; large hotel. It was like being invited to a friends house which was , by the way,a manor. I will definitely go back .

Review 53:Staying here was an experience in itself and we very much enjoyed it. This is not a hotel. It is much better than that. The owners were attentive and engaging. The house and surroundings were beautiful. Dinners were excellent.

Review 54:Although excellent quality, dinner is a set meal. We were advised that an alternative would be prepared if it did not appeal.

Review 55:Perfect location on the shore of Lough Corrib, and excellent traditional rowing boats available for guests.

Review 56:The people were not only very accommodating, they were very warm and went out of their way to do ANYTHING to make your stay there exceptional! The house and grounds were fantastic and we had the best food there of anywhere we ate in Ireland. I would definately recommend it to anyone.

Review 57:Staying at the Currarevagh House is an escape from the hustle and bustle of modern day life, it has a relaxing atmosphere which starts from the moment you drive up it's long drive and continues when you enter the house. It's a small hotel so it makes you feel as though you are staying with friends. The owner and the staff couldn't have been more helpful and the food was delicious.

Review 58:The family that runs Currarevagh could not be more helpful, accommodating, friendly. The house is fabulous, the grounds are wonderful for walking and just getting away from it all!

Review 59:While some might prefer a lodge with newer, fresher trappings, Currarevagh House gave us the unique experience of an old, country house with its aura of days gone by. The hosts were attentive to our every need and the meals were outstanding. While we were not there for the fishing, as were most of the guests, we felt welcome and the other guests were quickly a source of friendship and education. From the somewhat remote location, we had easy access to Connemara, Kylemore Abbey and Ashford Castle. I would definitely return there... for the ambiance of evening coffee before a peat fire, if nothing else.

Review 60:Leaving!
