Reviews for Breaffy Woods Hotel

Review 1:Stayed at the Breaffy Woods hotel for a family wedding. The renovations in the main hotel are delightful, great job. Thank you to all the staff who made the day go smoothly.

Review 2:The hotel and the food all round was definitely 3 star. Our room was made up in the roughest way possible, my 7 year old would have made a better attempt at the bed. Everything looked and tasted cheap, particularly the breakfast. The sausages, the beans, the tinned fruit at breakfast, the frozen chicken goujons, all just awful. They ran out of Pizza on the Saturday night by 7.30pm - on the Halloween bank holiday and there was no space to eat in the bar area after 6pm as there was entertainment from then on. The juices were not fresh but rather sugar filled concentrate from machines. I would have paid more for fresher, homemade food. I would never go back based on our food experience alone. This was topped off by a 'sweet shop' selling sweets from 7pm onwards in the lobby area, the greatest load of rubbish ever was on display. I just couldn't believe that kids were eating the rubbish on sale. My 3 eat sweets but I just felt it was like having a McDonalds beside a school!

Review 3:Nothing really. The staff were mostly all very friendly and we didn't use the pool or recreation/games areas.

Review 4:The halls were bare and in need of paint. The hall carpet on the stairs has seen a lot of wear.

Review 5:Big comfortable rooms, good location friendly polite helpful staff.

Review 6:The heater are set up on times - so the heat is on only between 7am-9am, 2-4pm and 7-9pm, but even on those times they were not working as they were supposed to. The room was freezing in the night, we got sick after we went back home

Review 7:Very contorted way to access rooms like 140-160. (Getting to spa or lobby and when traveling with luggage was difficult) Need down lighting at front entry steps and a boost to wifi service when heavily booked. Easy to hear every loud child or crying baby.

Review 8:Nice pool & gym but early closing hour. Great town and local residents.

Review 9:The bar in the woods Hotel was closed at 9.00 on Sunday night just when we were looking forward to a drink and an hour relaxation. We could not get food at the hotel and when we went to the House we were met with chaos and a long long waiting time!!!

Review 10:Food was good ( when we eventually were served) and comfortable spacious rooms. Mostly friendly staff

Review 11:If you dont have kids/traveling without kids/not very prepared to tolarate well large amound of them you might want search for a different place

Review 12:Property is beautiful. Staff is very friendly and super helpful. If you travelling with children they will have fun. Gym is in the building next door. No need to skip a work out!

Review 13:Restaurant dirty booked two rooms for our family should be beside each other very noisy at night breakfast very poor had to check 6 dishes before i got clean one.sh

Review 14:in a good location easy to find

Review 15:It was bad that WiFi was not available in rooms an TV needs up dating for this day an age

Review 16:It was a very relaxing stay an central to castlebar an west port

Review 17:As a family of young children, the Kids club was excellent , particularly "Captain Jack" , he was the reason we returned to Breaffy Hotel again this year. Also the food was lovely , nice to be able to relax while kids are being entertained in same room. The kids pool was big, the bedroom was good size, comfortable and clean. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you

Review 18:The sliding door with a cracked glass and the door would not lock.... Felt insecure leaving belongings in the room. The fridge was not working, defeats the purpose of the facilities. Having a health facility separated from the hotel was not great in the bad weather. Would be great to have an enclosed link to the facility.

Review 19:The facility being family orientated.

Review 20:Cleanliness of the swimming pool changing facilities. I really wish I had flip flops. It was after 8 on the fri evening but it was dirty and toilets where not clean.

Review 21:Very well set up for familys and groups. We stayed with all the familys - large rooms large corridors could not hear other guests. Food was lovely and bar was very busy.

Review 22:Absolutely terrible room it was for wheelchair access and all facilities were for same absolutely would not stay again I asked for first floor room and did not get it

Review 23:Not a thing

Review 24:The pool ran out of locker keys so couldn't go swimming as we had money with us. Entertainment was more for very young children. Bar food was not great. Kids meals were bigger than the adults.

Review 25:I liked the AstroTurf, swimming pool

Review 26:Great hotel to stay in food was great and the staff were so friendly they couldn't do enough for us.I will definitely come back to this hotel with the family .

Review 27:A longish wait to check in when we were cold and wet after climbing Croag Patrick

Review 28:My early morning stroll around the grounds discovering the glories of the nineteenth century landscaping. The facilities for kids and the way that the staff really engaged with them. The friendly and helpful reception staff. Thank you, Amy, Deirdre and Sinead.

Review 29:Service in Healy's bar was awful. Staff were not quick at all. Service was very slow and poor. Sitting around for 20 mins waiting for dinner plates to be removed and dessert menu to be Offered is not satisfactory at all. A second drink and red sauce was ordered when meal was served and it wasn't received until our dinner was finished.

Review 30:the breakfast was very poor, no fresh fruit or any other healthy option. dinner in the house was ok but wait was long and my plate was not cleared for 1/2 an hour. then i had to queue to pay. was told the pool would have towels but when i got there there was none left. had room with sink and fridge, had to pull fridge out of housing and switch off in order to get to sleep as it was so loud.

Review 31:I was given a room for a wheelchair with a really low sink and not the room i booked I didnt realise it was going to be mainly parents and small kids No nice bar area downstairs At 12.50 breakfast is overpriced

Review 32:Nice area and nice pool

Review 33:The Breffy Woods was awful,a bit like a holiday camp, the bar upstairs was disgusting not enough staff to clear and wipe down tables etc.The corridors need a good clean!!

Review 34:The Staff was lovely and welcoming!

Review 35:Just uncomfortableness of beds other then that it was perfect

Review 36:Everything its a great hotel and don't have a problem with anything other then the beds are so uncomfortable

Review 37:How the hotel fail to educate their guests on arrival on how to be considerate of others late at night, our room was above the waste area of the hotel which was being used until 3 in the morning.

Review 38:The food in the Healy bar

Review 39:My stay was one of the best places I have ever had for entertainment, kids had a ball and I will definitely be back thanks to all staff 5 star rating from me.

Review 40:Leisure centre was not attached but only across the car park. Peak time for breakfast was very busy so took a bit longer but still very good.

Review 41:Rooms were great size, fresh and modern. Staff very helpful, breakfast was great. Food in restaurant and bar was to a high standard and a good price.

Review 42:we brough bikes and a bike shed would be better than going to the basement to lock up bikes just an idea

Review 43:This Hotel really goes the extra mile for kids the evening entertainment and the Breakfast train are exceptional and better than anywhere else we have stayed . Made our stay all the more enjoyable as the weather was brutal for the peak of summer

Review 44:Hotel in general was too hot. Tea/Coffee should be provided for each table at breakfast. Modern TVs required in rooms. Minimal wifi signal in rooms.

Review 45:Very friendly staff- especially in Breaffy House bar!! Great facilities for kids and adults. Good location for other attractions in this area.

Review 46:There was an all Ireland hand ball competition and the part of the hotel we stayed in was loaded with youngsters they were very noisy at night they would kick other clients doors as they walked through the corridor and bouncing there rubber balls off the walls. We would have preferred to have stayed at the Breafy house instead of the the Woods.

Review 47:Great surrounding local area and grounds to hotel. Staff very helpful and curtious.

Review 48:Bathroom in hotelroom wasn't especially clean. There was a rusted hair pin lying by the sink which had been there for some time I suspect. The glass in the window was cracked and looked unsightly.

Review 49:Travelled with children, excellent hotel for kids, entertainment was brilliant, staff were very friendly, could not recommend hotel enough for families

Review 50:Notice travelled easily from hall and other rooms. Far enough from castlebar,10e in taxi, but hotel can arrange taxi.

Review 51:Room was clean, staff so friendly, catered for all, food great. Setting of hotel unreal!

Review 52:I would have liked to have seen the girls with long hair having it tiedup or netted especially when serving food. The noise in the bar all weekend.

Review 53:The dining room management was excellent, professional. The guy incharge organised a group of very young staff who were willing and readyto perform duties to a high standard

Review 54:Room was more like a self catering unit, had boiler in corner of room, was on ground floor with sliding doors i like to leave a window open so room was stuffy! Shower had just a curtain round so had to mop floor after use! Was noisy all night with an odd gurgling/plumbing noise constant day and night! I had not expected the bar to be full of young children either we ended up sitting in the reception rather then bar for the evening! At breakfast dishes had to be gone through to find a clean cereal bowl and my tea cup was cracked and dirty! Very dissappointed! I had stayed in Breaffy house a few months ago so had expected the same great atmosphere but, i left feeling very dissappointed and will not book to stay in the woods again! I don't like leaving bad reviews but this was just not an enjoyable stay!

Review 55:No wifi in rooms was a pain especially for our teenage son while our youngest was entertained. No cubicles in changing rooms, one big open room!!! Games room and changing facilities are all starting to look a little dated, a lick of paint would make the world of difference from it starting to look a little run down.

Review 56:The entertainment for young children was fabulous especially pirate show Front of house staff all very friendly and couldn't do enough..

Review 57:The bed was extremely uncomfortable and the room was very (too) warm. We had a room with a sliding door and did not feel safe to leave this opened all night. The dinner was overpriced for what you get. Food looked a little like it was "slopped" up.

Review 58:Very family friendly

Review 59:The hotel was very noisy during the night. Parents seemed to let their children run amok with little regard to other people staying in the hotel.

Review 60:Staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 61:The morning we were leaving decided to stay out in bed as long as we could as long journey ahead, but come 9.40am cleaners entered, was told come back, so every 10min till we left they came. Pressure or what.

Review 62:Cheap and cheerful. American wrestling a massive big hit with the kids.

Review 63:They don't seem to have any policy in place for noise yes it's kids hotel but parents some parents still put kids bed at decent hour ESP babies the noise was shocking kids banging on doors running screaming shouting it wAs bad 1st floor nightmare... Food wAs wrong on many occasions and cud take anything up to hour to come out...

Review 64:Hotel near castlebar town good kids activities

Review 65:We asked for room with bath as I have 11 month old 3yr old room had no bath had be moved.. We were on 1st floor there was kids running up down halls at late hours and knocking on doors and running & screaming .. I was very upset had to go receiption to complain and it was well over half hour before noise stopped and that's when a fella in another room complained it's was midnight at this stage and I had send my dinner back twice plain chicken & veg only was a difficult order to follow.. Had leave to put baby to bed in end still no dinner ate.. It was long 4 nights with very little sleep .. There was a group off us 4 adults 5 kids 2 kids special needs found noise very upsetting!

Review 66:Hotel was clean and plenty entertainment for kids breakfast was good!

Review 67:very noisy and had to complain about noise waking children and went to pay with sterling they said they didn't accept sterling cash was very disappointed as I had phoned and they said they accepted sterling I could have been stuck if I hadn't brought card with me

Review 68:childrens entertainment

Review 69:Stayed in the Breaffy Woods Hotel which seems to be geared towards families with young children. While there is a bar in the Woods from 7-30 to 9.30 it is home to a kids disco and is empty after that. There was entertainment in the main House however it was not advertised in the Woods and we only heard about it when leaving.

Review 70:Location.

Review 71:Breakfast wasn't great, great choice of food but food was a bit dry, finding a fly in my egg and a hair on my bread didn't help. We didn't inform the waitress who was very apologetic.

Review 72:Activities for the kids around the hotel were excellent..hotel has lovely surroundings,

Review 73:The room we were given overlooked a patio area that was being built and there were two small diggers blocking our view and there was a high pitched noise of slabs being cut. I asked for a change of room and we were changed to a much nicer room.

Review 74:Location ideal for exploring the area

Review 75:We were given an upgrade when we arrived. The staff assisted us in directions to places we were going to visit. Their directions were very good, better that the GPS we rented. Good food and pub in the hotel. They offer a great breakfast.

Review 76:The only tng is the ongoing renovations on site, ofcourse once finished this will be resolved. The grounds have such huge potential, hope investment will make this potential a reality.

Review 77:The bar has been completely modernised and is a lovely place to be. The staff while busy are courteous, freindly and will stop for a chat. the staff seem happy which is always a good sign for me and my family. Unhappy staff regardless of faculties is always a sign if something wrong, so many places in ireland have this, this hotel is not one, all the service staff were lovely.

Review 78:The bar staff have a lot to be desired they are young and in efficient in the main Hotel. One girl stands around avoiding work. I had my little one with us for dinner so they brought hers out first, then one waitress came and said are ye finished will I bring ye the bill when we the adults hadn't even gotten our dinner at this stage. Staying in the Woods is ridiculous as we had to go to the main House to get a drink as the bar in the Woods wasn't open till 6pm. I went in for dinner in the Woods to be told by "Chris that the meals were for tour groups" he said I will organize the House for dinner and I will let you know, but he never got back to us, would be still waiting. Having no bar down stairs in the function room is ridiculous the bar man kept leaving to go up and down to bring drinks to the tour groups. No organization in the main Hotel at all.

Review 79:The room was big. They have done a lovely job of the inside of the Breaffy house.

Review 80:It should be advertised that woods hotel is not suitable for mature couples. The only entertainment was for kids. For us to get a drink we had to walk to Breaffy House bar where the service was a shambles.

Review 81:Nothing

Review 82:Breakfast was a bit crazy, everything was running out but staff tried their best to replace immediately. Bit of advice replace all high chairs with the basis plastic ones, others are unstable & unhygienic.

Review 83:Very quiet in our room despite lots of young children. Room & ensuite very clean. Pool & facilities very nice.

Review 84:The bathroom was designed for wheelchair access there wasn't any spare to put toiletries and it was wet floor with pen shower, both room were the same. Also the rooms were in separate building to main hotel.

Review 85:Lovely staff very friendly

Review 86:Inexperienced and poorly trained staff. New bar average wait for food was half hour. Very dis-organised. Pool area needs refurbishment. Tiles are grotty.

Review 87:The location and comfort.

Review 88:The swimming pool and changing areas would need a good power washing and the hotel needed a god make over sorry we did not enjoy the visit

Review 89:The meal in the other hotel which was over priced and more like a school dinner

Review 90:The hotel building itself is fairly basic, the restaurant / canteen is really basic and the food is stuck in the 1980's

Review 91:The staff were fantastic and made what would have been a poor experience into a good one.

Review 92:The entire hotel needs a general overhaul. The bar is among the worst I've ever seen in a hotel of this standard. We asked for a travel cot in advance, none was supplied until we asked after arrival. It came with a single sheet, and they need a new travel cot. Noise was clearly audible from next door. Breakfast was fine, staff were pleasant. Hotel just needs a general upgrade.

Review 93:Location is decent.

Review 94:Bar was a fuction room in both places. No room service except for the breaffy house hotel no such service in the woods. Tv was outdated. Only terrestrial stations. Bar prices were terrible dear. €4:60 for a Guinness In a country hotel is way overpriced. €5:70 for a pint btl of cider is just rotten. The main bar was under reservation which no signs or no apology on check in. The residents bar shut at 3. And the weekend that was in it you's could have made other arrangements and kept it open longer. Staff were brilliant management were very bad to deal with especially the night ones. Overall a bad advertisment for what could be a great hotel to visit in the future.

Review 95:Rooms were nice

Review 96:Can really not fault anything everything was top class.

Review 97:Absolutely loved our room was like a mini apartment it was that big! Very clean and staff were extremely friendly and attentive.

Review 98:Room was cold but heating turned on when reception was contacted. Noisy guests in next room due to Wedding so sleep was disturbed.

Review 99:Good value for money with 4 course meal included in package.

Review 100:oh Dear, we desperately need a dining room supervisor here, everyone had to queue even if you only wanted a bowl of porridge, the poor guy serving the hot food was doing his best with not much of a back up from the kitchen, even the toaster was was out of reach of the customer, glasses were always in short supply, the fruit bowl was very sad, it was busy but it is possible have a better system

Review 101:As it was for Halloween, the entertainment was really great and the kids club girls were brilliant, starting at 9am with the breakfast train, no kids till 1pm, chance to read the paper or have a swim!!

Review 102:price went up for a tuesday night because of a concert in a near town,,94euro for a room a no breakfast..otherwise lovely hotel

Review 103:nice n peaceful outside town

Review 104:It is like a hostel and café was like a work canteen food was very poor. when we arrived the room we where given one of windows was cracked, it also had three single beds unmade and one double bed. When I went back to complain to the girl on the desk she never said she was sorry the second room the sliding door glass had a crack in it the glass was dirty. the place is in need of s good makeover

Review 105:noting

Review 106:Aaah we had food from the bar as the one from the restaurant was really expensive, I have never had such a horrible lasagne in my life, watery and no taste whatsoever, the kids pizza and chips were horrendous my son did not even bother eating any.

Review 107:I enjoyed being with my family there, we had a big room enough space to move around, the facilities are really good for family fun beautiful location but bit hidden from the main road.

Review 108:Westport is a great destination and this hotel was only a 15 min drive. There are two hotels in breaffy and in the woods the bar was poor but it is a 2 min walk to the other hotel to a nicer bar. Staff were great. Breakfast was really good. I never get a fry but tried it here as it looked good and it was. Bed was very comfortable. Room was big and clean everything worked. Really pleasant. Leisure Center is really nice it's outside but a 2 min walk and was worth it to chill out. Many gaa players staying so had to b good. I would go back..

Review 109:I didn't like that they could not find our booking when we arrived and the fact that we had conjoined rooms that one of the showers flooded the bathroom. Also having to queue for breakfast was disappointing

Review 110:I liked the size of the room and the comfort of the beds.

Review 111:The room was dirty and the bar food at The Breaffy House was unedibile.

Review 112:The pool, disco, and activities for the kids were excellent. The shower was powerful.

Review 113:My friends were also staying in hotel and for some reason they got a much better rate than us... No idea why. Also when we arrived at hotel at 4.30 our room was not ready yet every other guest checking in, there room was.

Review 114:Stayed here as attending wedding in the house. Nice staff. Great for families with children as it seems to have great facilities and also had nightly entertainment. Would come back with my young son.

Review 115:Place was grubby over all , stairwells had a bad smell , children unsupervised running around all hours of the night , breakfast hot food was nt great . Won't be heading back in a hurry

Review 116:Room was big , with 2 more beds

Review 117:getting bread that had been previously buttered with chowder The noisy restaurant with no atmosphere getting horseradish sauce instead of marie rose sauce on the prawn cocktail?? Host not being able to deal with sauce mix up when told about it. Having to wait so long for service after spa treatment.

Review 118:location

Review 119:The girl in leisure centre very rude to my son who is 16 but quite small. She refused to let him use sauna or steam etc even he gave her his DoB. She laughed at him which made him feel very sad

Review 120:The food very nice. Rooms very spacious

Review 121:My children went to the pool because our room was not ready . I waited on room and then made my way to it . With 4 bags and when I asked a member of staff where it was , he pointed . And then stood and watched me struggle with the 4 bags . Our dinner on first eve was very poor . I did not eat in hotel again .

Review 122:The area it was in and it's setting . Swimming pool . Grounds .

Review 123:No Room Service Not value for money No Bath Arrived at 9pm and all was available was pizza tasted disgusting onions all over it very bland too so went without. no soap

Review 124:Swimming pool Comfortable bed Easy to Locate

Review 125:i taught that the outside grounds were quite dirty out side our door from our room were loads of ciarette butts and this i taught was disusting as we are non smokers, the rass was also unkept and long, for a family hotel i tauht that there should be wifi in all the rooms,.

Review 126:I liked that there was swimming pool and gym for us to use, and no extra cost, i taught the room was ok very basic,

Review 127:Rooms very hot no air conditioning and in a family room it was uncomfortable although they gave us a fan didn,t make much difference but would come again

Review 128:Excellent family hotel felt relaxed with the children staff very good even with the children

Review 129:Would not recommend this hotel for couples or adult groups. I now know where the Pied Piper lead all the children. The hotel was like an adventure playground for a lot of unsupervised children. The House hotel was a bit quieter but still a lot of children. We were the only table at dinner without children.

Review 130:Beautiful grounds. Very spacious room that also had a fridge.

Review 131:Key cards were a problem as if they were near your phone they would not work. Having to walk outside to the other house to get to the leisure facilities

Review 132:Like the leisure facilities Like the room and the grounds around the hotel Like the food Like the fact that there were a lot of things for kids eg kids discos and kids club etc

Review 133:Exterior needs some looking after...one person on check in on a saturday high season waiting over 30mins. No room service

Review 134:Fab hotel lots of activites throughout the day for kids..doesnt look great from outside but clean and warm inside. Fully accessible for children with special needs and staff very helpful.

Review 135:Too many children unsupervised. ..very noisy as a result....corridors had trails of crisps on the floor...breakfast was very basic

Review 136:The room was comfortable....

Review 137:Hotel could do with a makeover Room rates when booking through Booking.com, we did not get value for money as some others who booked direct with the hotel

Review 138:Location Spacious rooms

The Fine Print

In exceptional circumstances, Breaffy Woods Hotel may transfer bookings to Breaffy House Hotel, which is part of the same resort. If this happens, the hotel will contact all guests before arrival.
