Reviews for Wombats City Hostel Budapest
Review 1:You could find some hairs on the sheets and towels when opening them from the clean packs and we had an unplesant smell coming from the bathroom cannel in the second day
Review 2:Lockers are very nice, wifi was working everywhere, rooms were specious and the staff was very friendly.
Review 3:I felt like in a prison. Just a bed, 2 night stands and a cupboard. Walls are clean and nothing else was there. Not even windows or a TV. Not conformable at all. Also it was loud from people coming and going to parties and screaming/shouting.
Review 4:Location is great. Rooms are quite big. Wifi was ok.
Review 5:Beds could be number coded as well to avoid confusion as to what bed is free or not since we already have assigned lockers. But other than that no problems at all
Review 6:Clean rooms, super nice staff
Review 7:- the cost : it is a little expensive. - the noise in the bathroom (horrible during the night)
Review 8:Clean, good host, excellent breakfast, good place, good atmosphere
Review 9:The bathroom door on the ensuites may as well be non existent. There is no privacy with regards to noise and using the toilet. A little bit embarrassing! The lift was never working and there are heaps of stairs. Not so good when you have heavy bags (good exercise though!).
Review 10:The location was awesome! Located in the jewish district close to so many restaurants and bars. Facilties were great and the room was really clean and comfortable.
Review 11:The location is good but the room was dirty. They don't have plugs in the bathroom. My bed wasn't ready. The elevator doesn't work and I was on the 3rd floord. The wifi is very, very bad !!! The wifi only works in the lobby and not that well anyway. The hostel is a big factory, over a hundred rooms !!! Not charming at all.
Review 12:Loved the location. Our bathroom was kept so clean which was great as there was 6 people sharing it. Breakfast was very handy and there was a lot of different options.
Review 13:The wifi frequently disconnected which was an inconvenience while trying to chat to people and look up place to go around the city. The elevator was broken due to "past storms" and I did not see anyone trying to work on the problem throughout my week stay.
Review 14:The location was great and nearby many restaurants, bars, 24-hr convenience stores, and other young travellers. The private double room I staying in was very clean and rooms were spacious. The staff were very helpful when I had any questions or problems.
Review 15:Had bed bugs in first night. So had to wash everything and put in freezer. Only got a share of money back for this night. No incentives for the unnecessary effort of washing, drying, room changing...
Review 16:good located, good athmosphere
Review 17:A 'party' hostel. The staff were really friendly and the bar was a good place to meet people. I was able to send an email to the front desk for the spa party and they happily printed off my ticket, free of charge.
Review 18:bad maintenance (elevators out of order, no hot water in bathroom, bed lamp broke); I havent seen any cleaning in the rooms for the time I spent there; check in late, staff not prepared to deal with problems
Review 19:Really nice facilities, Free wi-fi, good lockers
Review 20:Clear management problems, lack of maintenance such as elevators were down (more than two weeks out of order); there was no hot water in the bathroom and my bed lamp was also broke. The staff was not ready to deal with a booking problem that happend with me.
Review 21:The hostel itself is really nice, really beautiful facilities, free wi-fi, great location and good lockers.
Review 22:no wifi in room, staff very impatient, bed is broken... room not clean. no towel, you have to ask the staff and bring them back by yourself
Review 23:location, close to metro, city center
Review 24:this hotel is located near by station and very cheap. but very noise! And the bed is not clear, I thought like that 'tonight bedbergs will bite me!' why many tourist stay in here? but you are no have enough money or student, thls hotel is appropriate to you, because very very cheap!
Review 25:At the first night we arrived they told us that the elevator was temporarily out of order. So we had to carry our luggages to 4th floor. Then we realized that there were actually two elevators but both of them seemed to be broken. And during our 3 days stay they stayed so. It was hard to climb all that stairs everyday. Also, i do not believe that both of them can actually be broken at the same time. And another thing, how can a hostel not receive euro but only hungarian money? We arrived late at night but even could not buy something to drink because we only had euros. And in the morning we first had to find a bank before buying a breakfast ticket! It was surprising to learn that they don't also receive credit cards! Sorry but I can not say that the staff was friendly to us. They did not help much.
Review 26:Location was great. Very close to the metro station, city center and the jewish district.
Review 27:none
Review 28:In a very nice location, 2 squares from Szimpla Pub the main and most known ruin pub. The technology using a card to open the bedroom's door and the locker is very useful, secure and efficient. The breakfast is very complete with a good price!
Review 29:Great location near many bars, restaurants and ruin bars. Large rooms which were very clean. Staff were always a great help whenever we had questions or needed directions
Review 30:Staff was very unfriendly. Rooms were like a boiler and when I asked for some possible solution for the hot rooms, One receptionist gave a blank look and turned away and the other one had the audacity to say I was from India and should be ok with it! I booked for three days originally but could not sustain beyond two.
Review 31:Rooms were clean, location is good - about 100 m from metro station and lot of hangout joints close by.
Review 32:i hate the pillow i think it was expired to using it lol. wifi was absolutely bad at anytime any location i can't use wifi to find any useful information.
Review 33:I love the room large for me and it was cleanly. The kitchen was nice and private i love it
Review 34:TTe staff has no idea what was happening with my booking. Put us in a different room to what we had booked twice. Had to keep going back to reception to get it sorted. Seems like they can't handle that many people. Will not recommend this hostel to anyone during a busy time in budapest. Also bar staff were rude.
Review 35:The best possible location in Budapest, the hipster Khao San Road of Budapest, non-stop fun. Close to everything, shops, restaurants, sightseeing. Clean, spacious room, all modern/new.
Review 36:Wifi was horrible. Almost useless. I wasn't very happy with the staff either. They were ok, but not nearly as friendly or intimate or approachable as ones in some of the best hostels I've been too. Also, the bathrooms didn't come with any soap.
Review 37:I liked the location very much. I twas located in such a lively place with lots of food options nearby. It was also located right in the heart of the city and almost all of the main attractions are within walking distance. I only had to use the metro to get to and from the railway station and airport.
Review 38:Great location and easy to get to from the airport on the metro and right in the centre. They lost my booking but staff were able to rectify the problem. Comfortable beds with ensuite bathroom in the room. Great kitchen and laundry facilities. Third time staying here and would return.
Review 39:the only thing that i do not like is the bunks, too small and not easy to move on it.
Review 40:Location is the key point of this hostel. it is located just next to a place named gozsdu udvar which inludes many cafes, pubs , beside this ,the famous ruin clup szimpla kert is just a few hundred meter far away from the hostel. You can easly reach many historical building and the river duna with a shrt distance walking.
Review 41:As most people pointed out, WiFi connection was not really good, most probably because there are many poeple staying in the hostel. But you can always go downstairs near the reception where the connection is just fine.
Review 42:The hostel is in a really nice location, right on the Király Street, and is pretty close to the metro station that would take you to almost everywhere you'd want to go. The staff was really friendly and helpful--I had a problem with my locker and they really helped me a lot. The rooms were large, clean and comfortable. I should add that they also have a nice lounge room downstairs where you can relax if you arrive early.
Review 43:Internet was slow and most of the time unusable. My room had some defects, which I mentioned at the reception, yet haven't been fixed in my whole stay.
Review 44:Nice staff, very good location
Review 45:Poor wi-fi connection Beds are noisy and shaking, they should be fixed to walls No soap in the toilets
Review 46:Hotel like hostel concept Locked rooms Breakfast (1000HUF) Location
Review 47:The wifi connection wasn`t good, I couldn`t use properly.
Review 48:Good location, good structure and friendly staff. They offer a reasonable breakfast for a good price. The rooms are ok, with a plug for each person, which is good and they offer a personal locker inside the room.
Review 49:Minor stuff, would be nice to have bath mat in front of bathroom.
Review 50:Location, its super close to those nightlife & restaurants, cafes, metro. Room is spacious. I stayed in 8-bed, felt like 4-bed.
Review 51:Patchy wifi means unstable Connection in the room (even if the phone Shows full wifi strength). Heater did not work in the toilet of the room. But we were allowed to change rooms and promptly compensated with free breakfast for the next day by the friendly staff.
Review 52:Great Location in a hip quarter of town with many cool bars, restaurants and cafes nearby. Big and spacious rooms and hall, laundry and kitchen. Affordable breakfast optional. Quiet rooms even though it was in a Party neighborhood.
Review 53:WiFi was spotty in the rooms. Most of staff was nice, but one didn't provide great customer service. Can be loud, but was expected from this type of hostel.
Review 54:Really enjoyed the comfortable bed and facilities in the double room. Location was amazing; right in the center of Budapest and near many sights, bars, and restaurants. Nice common area and Wombar.
Review 55:Everything is expected and more from a hostel. But I have stayed on wombat in Vienna and Berlin. There the bunk bed were not so uncomfortable and un-sturdy.
Review 56:I am student and being able to hop into Wombat where everybody treats you so nice. It is almost like the TV-show "CHEERs", where everybody knows your name.u
Review 57:Can be noisy especially on the weekends and if you are on the lower floors. I think the walls are made of tissue. I could hear a zipper being closed on a travel bag at 6 am. Vinyl floors are great for cleaning but not sound proofing. Happy people have no idea how loud their voices are or their footsteps.
Review 58:Location, cleanliness, cheap breakfast.
Review 59:The bathroom of the reception needs to be cleaner.
Review 60:The staff are super friendly, informative about the city and so helpful. The location is so awesome you're only a few minutes away from everything! This is the place to stay at when in Budapest.
Review 61:The room 315 had a plumbing problem and the room was really stinky all the time, we asked for a better cleaning and we had it only one day, the next day was already very dirty and smelly again. Staff indifferent, they help you but nothing else, it's like they really don't care about you. Poor breakfast. Horrible wifi! We had a great time in other Wombats but the Budapest Wombats was very disappointing. I wouldnt recommend this hostel.
Review 62:Ambience and location.
Review 63:Nothing, all was good
Review 64:Had an amazing time here, lovely staff, good atmosphere, lovely clean room and comfy bed, nice en suite as we had a private room, and really centrally located. Wifi was a bit slow when a lot of people were on it but that's it!
Review 65:The wi-fi only. The connection is poor, unstable, signal low and speed slow
Review 66:Thw whole concept, design, atmosphere, location, people. I reccommend to everyone this hostel if you wanna have good time.
Review 67:Snoring guy in room.maybe there could be option for that, like questionary do you have prblm with that,so for tham you could seperate rooms
Review 68:How clean, warm and simple it is
Review 69:Nothing! Amazing place!
Review 70:Literally loved everything! Could not have faulted anything but the Internet was slightly temperamental from time to time! Although available for free throughout the hotel so understandable! I had the best time at this hostel!
Review 71:A bit noisy because of Young People screaming in the night, but you can report that to the staff if there are problems
Review 72:Position in the city centre, nice room and bed, value for money
Review 73:The only thing I would say is that the wifi was a bit dodgy, always struggling to connect when it was peak times in the building. Also the pillows weren't the greatest at all and same with the bedding. But that's truly a minimal detail.
Review 74:After staying at a hostel in Berlin in the night before (that wasn't up to scratch) I was a bit hesitant checking into Wombats in Budapest however this place is barely a hostel. It felt like a hotel. Perfect location in the heart of it all, on a main street full of restaurants and a stone throw away from the metro. We opted for a double private ensuite as it was fairly cost effective as opposed to dorming it with others - I highly recommend this for comfort and privacy. Great bathroom. Great size room. Safe and secure. Pillows and bed sheeting weren't the best, but hey, it's still budget. General great vibe about it, breakfast was decent if you have a day of sight seeing for 1000 HUF. Great staff. Generally GREAT! Stay here for sure when you visit Budapest!
Review 75:The staff were really smiling and helpful. There are plugs everywhere in the room for charging battery.Clean room.No need to go to reception for hire a lock because your room card is enough for this.
Review 76:The wifi was really terrible. I think it were the worst I've seen during my trips.
Review 77:The hostel are in a good location, near metro station, supermarket, restaurants. The bedrooms are very comfortable.
Review 78:Wifi was very slow, which was a bit annoying. My bed was also a tiny bit broken which was a little annoying. I also like two pillows, but there was one and it was quite small, but that is a person preference!
Review 79:Staff were always friendly and a great help. The area towards the back of the hostel was so cool and a great place to meet people. Extremely clean, amazing location. Perfect for the likes of a group of students who want to see the city and go out and party! Would definitely use it again.
Review 80:Your staff is very helpfull and kind. I arrived to hostel on friday evening. On saturday morning, my wallet (with money and credit cards) was stolen in metro. It was terrible for me, I had only 315 forints. Claire helped me, she gave me a breakfast ticket for sunday morning and she showed me free food selves in the kitchen. With her helps, I was not hungry up to sunday evening. I returned to Debrecen safely. Thank you very much Claire and other Wombats city hostel all staff. I will come to wombats again! Gökhan
Review 81:terrible smell in the room (i guess it was linoleum), so I had to open the window at night in winter:( bad wifi (it is extremely inconveniently when you need it to plan your trip right now). you definitely must fix it (room 124, maybe other rooms too). wombat hostel is very big so not all guests follow the rule of silence at night (i mean at least after 1 а.m.) and in one night fire alarm triggered at 5 а.m. in my room without any reason so you can imagine how it was:)
Review 82:location, different zones in common space
Review 83:There were no organised activities apart from the walking tour, which wasnt available every day. A bit of an industrial feel to the place, & the "common area" didnt lend itself to meeting others. As a solo traveler I found it hard to meet people. Was put in a room by myself, which didnt help either.
Review 84:The breakfast was cheap & great value. Rooms were clean, all beds had their own lamp & power socket.
Review 85:Everything was amazing except the wifi, which doesn't sound like much but makes all the difference when you're trying to organise parts of your trip at the hostel.
Review 86:Totally recommendable, amazing value for money and it is right in the city centre of Budapest, so you'll save tons of time. Very nice rooms :) Will totally go back there if I travel again to Budapest.
Review 87:Please note that these are things that happened during my stay. Doesn't mean it will happen to you: - Construction work in the building at 7am. I assume so because we heard a drill working. - Music noise from 4am to 5am. I don't know where it was from just that it was from inside the hostel. I never hated Michael Jackson so much in my life :)
Review 88:Stayed with two more friends in a four bed room. We rented the whole room just for us. The commons area is really great. Very spacious and confortable. Many areas to be with your friends during downtime instead of the room. If you are social you can meet people there for sure. This hostel has an amazing location. Hard to find better for this price I think. Just across the street there is an area with many bars you can go to have a drink. The street has a lot of movement but we did not have problems with noise from outside (we stayed in the first floor directly facing the street).
Review 89:The bathroom was inside the room, so it can get really messy and dirty, depending on who is sharing the room with you. If you can avoid sharing the room with unknown people, it can be a very pleasant place to stay.
Review 90:Very central hostel in budapest. The common places were very well thought. The breakfast was also very good. The place is secure and the locker is big enough to fit a small suitcase.
Review 91:There is no sound proofing, so expect early wake ups from the rooms next door to you or in the corridors!
Review 92:Nice big room, comfy bed, very clean, great location - would definitely stay again!
Review 93:Noise extremely loud, no sound proofing, huge groups stay there and no control of school children behaviour.nor drunk people. For serious traveller it terrible. I got severally bitten by bed bugs, required medical attention. Tried to contact owners to no avail. They must be on the moon or in space somewhere.
Review 94:Location
Review 95:The 22:00 noise curfew was not really enforced so it was kind of noisy into the night. Also was uncomfortable with the people smoking so close to the entrance.
Review 96:Most everything. Delicious breakfast, clean facilities, knowledgable staff. I overall had a wonderful stay.
Review 97:The bathroom is not cleaned on a daily basis, it seems like they adjust the bookings in a manner where all travelers checkout the same day so they wouldn't have to clean it everyday.
Review 98:Breakfast was amazing, i like the spacious lockers and the reading lights available at each bed. The staff was great especially Daniel who was very helpful.
Review 99:Wifi was unreliable and computers with Internet had to be paid for. One or the other I think
Review 100:The open plan common space was great, with all faclities modern and clean. Staff were helpful.
Review 101:It does not have a safe within my room to keep valuables like passports.
Review 102:The staff running the place knows what they are doing. It is funky, relaxed and clean. Thing works properly at this Hostel. They also give good advice about getting around and doing things in Budapest.
Review 103:-so let me preface this by saying that I had lost my wallet and was in a bind when I got to budapest. I had booked a stay at wombats before then, but I had several days with no money, during which I was freaking out a little bit!!! -the staff were unbelievably helpful and understanding of the situation, and went above and Beyond to make sure that I was ok, and that I could communicate messages to the USA. They didn't let me starve, and treated me with dignity, respect, and even some lighthearted humor throughout the stay, with a level of tact and understanding that amazed me. I was truly WOWED during my stay, and would recommend this place to anyone, even if you prefer smaller hostels!
Review 104:At this price there's nothing to complain about.
Review 105:We liked everything about this hostel, friendly and helpful staff, perfect location. Funky relaxed lobby and chill out area, excellent value breakfast if you're on a budget, clean roomy double room with excellent shower and toilet.
Review 106:Would not recommend for anyone wishing to have a good sleep. I stayed 8 days and only on last night did I get good sleep. Woken 5 times first night, moved rooms second night, just a bad noise. There does not appear to be any soundproofing whatsoever and they have lagre groups of noisy student stay. On tow nights noise went on till 4am.
Review 107:Staff knowledable and helpful, breakfast superb, well organised.
Review 108:A little bit noisy due to its very central location and tourist population, but it's not a big deal.
Review 109:Located in Király Utca, where most of the bars, restaurants and shops are located or walking distance. Gozsdu Udvar, a beautiful courtyard is just across the hostel. Staff is very kind and helpful. Rooms are clean and spacious. They give free beverage coupon per person. Luggage room is a great facility to walk around if you have time after checkout. We spent almost a whole day luggage-free after checkout thanks to secure storage of the hostel.
Review 110:If you dont get in until three every morning and like to get wasted, you will love it here. Anybody else can find cheaper and better hostels elsewhere in Budapest. We booked in for two nights but after a whole night listening to people fighting, screaming and attempting to kick doors in.... we knew it was time to leave. The receptionist could not have cared less when we told him the reason for our early departure. The hostel is massive and they do not have a single security guard to try and keep a lid on too much craziness. Avoid.
Review 111:Clean, modern rooms.
Review 112:The bar sucks its so so tiny small that's it's a shame for wombats ... Budapest is so cheap but still wombats are charging for breakfast... The biggest loser thing in wombats is there is no people interaction as bar sucks and there is not free breakfast also which actually gets people to come together to eat and chat .. Shame for wombats for no free breakfast and such a small bar in a corner ...
Review 113:I liked the place reception people as well but the problem is the bar is so so small and in a corner that spoils lot of fun meeting people. And it's so cheap in Budapest that wombats should raise the rent a bit and make breakfast free so that people come down for breakfast and interact more and enjoy together. Rooms should be cleaned daily not just the lobby ...
Review 114:There was some gross hair on the bathroom floor.
Review 115:The location is really good, easy to walk to all the sights if that's you're thing. Good staff and breakfast was good
Review 116:Very confortable, not expensive, very helpful and multilangual crew! Good atmosphere and very clean hostel! Nice bar at the 1st floor, excellent location! We highly recommand it!
Review 117:The breakfast could be better including more fruits. The localization is good, but from Thursday to Sunday there are a lot of noise.
Review 118:This hostel is pretty good, offer clean rooms , friend atmosphere. There is place to keep baggage in case of early arrival
Review 119:The hostel is great ! Perfect for seeing lots of Budapest. The hostel is very big, organised, and the staff are really helpful at the reception. We would totally recommend it !
Review 120:The wifi signal is really poor; it wont work in the bedrooms most of the time.
Review 121:The location is superb, the hostel is close to the main bar/club area of the city and just one block from the main metro station.
Review 122:The communal area was great, the bar downstairs is nice and spacious, really light as well. The location couldn’t be better in terms of bars and clubs and restaurants, most at a reasonable price. Despite being in a buzzing area we weren’t effected by noise levels at all.
Review 123:Nothing.
Review 124:The hostel in very well located, close to all the night animation but also easy to go by foot to every main touristic attraction. The facilities are great, with a nice breakfast and helpfull staff.
Review 125:The free drink coupon which is given in the hostel is totally disappointment. It is useless if you dont use alcohol. In the bar you cannot drink a coffee with the coupon but just a glass of orange juice.
Review 126:The best place in the city to meet with the stranger travellers, and also the hostel is in the center of entertainment.
Review 127:This was the second time I've spent time in this hostel, place worth recommending to everybody. Great location, nice staff, clean room and bathroom, great breakfasts. I hope to come there next year
Review 128:the NOISE!!!! There are too many pubs in front of the hostel, so I couldn't sleep well every night.....
Review 129:the cheapest price I've ever experienced!!!!! The staff are very kind and friendly, and there's a hair drier in the bath.
Review 130:amazing atmosphere, everything is great there and was really cheap. breakfast so worth the 3 euros.
Review 131:I think it's the perfect location, just a really cool area and not too far from most major sights. Plus the breakfast is good and really cheap.
