Reviews for Royal Olympic Hotel
Review 1:The so called internal room literally doesn't have a real window! They actually charge the same as the other room which is ridiculous. No cattle, no tea, no coffee, no iron. If you need these they can bring you but with extra service charge.
Review 2:Good location. Walking distance to Acroplis.
Review 3:Quite a distance from Shopping Area.Complimentary Water not provided(however a wine is provided-paronamic room). Some staffs wasn't so polite and helpful.
Review 4:Big room/bed. Great view.
Review 5:At first they gave me a smaller room from the one I've booked. After my complain they gave me the right one .
Review 6:the location , the stuff , the view from my room ( try Athenian panorama)
Review 7:The thermostat did not work in our room.
Review 8:Great location, right next to metro station and Acroplis. Huge and delicious selection for breakfast buffet. Really good value during off season.
Review 9:Breakfast is served in a gorgeous restaurant place, in the 7th floor of the hotel, just opposite to the most important attractions of the city. We were 'upgraded' to a deluxe room, even if we have booked an executive one, maybe because we prepaid when we arrived. The room was very spacious and comfortable. It was a nice experience!
Review 10:got there and they charged us 50Euros/night more for a cot for my daughter who decided to stay with us
Review 11:rooms were spacious and clean, excellent location and views from the hotel and roof lounge
Review 12:Breakfast foods were not always hot enough. The cold buffet at breakfast was good, though with limited choices.
Review 13:Great location, short walk Akropoli metro.
Review 14:Heating is not on Demand. ( first night room was pretty cold). No heating pot to make our own coffe or tea in a 5 star hotel. Not accpetable.
Review 15:Location of Hotel is excellent
Review 16:For a 5 star hotel for which we paid through our noses at 160 euros per day, there were too many deficiencies and inconveniences: there were two single beds joined together with a large uncomfortable gap instead of one king bed as requested, there was no tea/coffee maker, there was no complimentary drinking water, there was no iron/ironing board available but only laundry services on payment, switch for curtains was not working, there were hardly any English TV channels and no pay channels, there was up to 20 minutes waiting time in line for breakfast, taking the joy out of it, there was no separate concierge desk. This is what I can recall offhand. This hotel is best avoided. Athens gate right next door would be a better option perhaps.
Review 17:Location and view
Review 18:Gym facilities were a bit grim, with treadmill not working Breakfast had limited choice of breakfast cereals and fruit, and hot food and beverages often not very hot
Review 19:Excellent and helpful staff. Elegant hotel with superb view of the best of Athens Very good value for money
Review 20:The prices proposed by the in-house restaurant are excessive: for instance the sum of 25 € per person for a breakfast is unreasonably high, it's the average price level for dining out in Athens.
Review 21:Ideally located near the Acropolis and an underground station. A good choice overall.
Review 22:Average quality of food in the breakfast buffet. Not well organised the breakfast in general, full of people queuing for more than 15 minutes waiting to have a table. Only one person in reception during the check out and again new queues to check out.
Review 23:Location and bed confort
Review 24:The hotel didnt provide us with a free parking for the guests. Charged Euro15per night.
Review 25:Wonderful property, right beside Temple of Zeus, at Athens. Very nice rooms and service and we had a very good time. The breakfast and the view from the restaurant was amazing. Also, found a cozy indian restaurant right at the corner - which was a must for a typical Indian family traveling abroad ;)
Review 26:Limited capacity of restaurant for breakfast, prices in bar/restaurant on last floor, paid parking
Review 27:Excelent position, comfortable rooms, great breakfast buffet, spacious bathroom and shower
Review 28:no towel. no napkins no shower hook, no soap tray not working heating system very old rooms, very mean staff, we aksed for napkins and above issues the answer was its normal, well sorry not to 5 Stars hotel in Eu country, we were very disappointed, and we checked out and stayed in another hotel close by
Review 29:location only
Review 30:There was air flow and the noise was very loud, be it in the bathroom or in other rooms. Sound isolation could be so much better. Besides the service at the restaurant was good but a smile would have been great.
Review 31:The staff at the entrance was very helpful and the building in itself was beautiful. The view on the terasse was wonderful.
Review 32:Should be a 4 stars: no coffee in room, and missing small details that makes the difference between a 4 and five star; when tub plug was taken off, water came out of the floor drain. Water all over the floor and staff seemed to find it normal. We had to empty the tub very slowly.
Review 33:Excellent location, Good breakfast, excellent rate for the quality
Review 34:The staff for breakfast were so rude! We waited in line patiently for the buffet breakfast and after 15 mins of waiting i politely asked the gentleman in charge of sitting how much longer would it be?.. he said to me very rudly how long for what!? With an annoyed voice. He really made me feel unwelcomed.
Review 35:The room was great we booked the panoramic suite for the night. The decor itself was amazing although the room seemed a bit hot. The upsetting part of the room is the bed..we paid so much money for the room and they put to single beds together with individual bed sheets and called that a king bed. Now that was annoying because we were there as a couple on my partners birthday!
Review 36:Only one lift serving the restaurant. The buffet breakfast was not good. No welcome drinks, no complimentary water, tea, coffee, shaving kit, dental kit nor tissue in the room.
Review 37:Good location, near to the famous acropolis and ermou street & plaka area. The metro station is within a waking distance.
Review 38:The suite we took with a very nice view had two single beds put together living a big gap between them to make a king size bed I think that bed must have been 8 years old the middle of the with go down after laying on it for 5 mins, nice room old blow dryer not functional
Review 39:I must say the lobby is great
Review 40:Excellent hotel at the right location so that we can get to the local attractions even by walk. Also metro train station is just couple of min walk from the hotel. Very friendly and approachable staffs always carry a smile! Class as mentioned maintained throughout.
Review 41:Everything was just perfect including weather in late November
Review 42:Location, good size room, cleaniness, nice breakfast. Stunning views from the window on Zeus temple and to the Akropolis. No Tv program can compete with these. Ask for a room with a view, move your TV screen and gadgets away and enjoy the acient beauty of Athiens down at your feet.
Review 43:Excellent hotel... Have stayed on two separate occasions.. Fantastic staff.. Food wonderful.. Just a fabulous hotel.. Will be staying again next year..!!
Review 44:The experience was so outstanding, that there is truly nothing that I could have disliked!
Review 45:The location of the hotel is just GREAT !! Plakas, the Akropolis and the Zeus temple are within minutes walking distance. The staff is extaordinarily friendly and helpful. Breakfast is a rich offering. The view in an upper room with balcony and view towards Akropolis and Zeus temple is worth every Euro !!! Should be an imperative when booking !
Review 46:Furniture in the bedroom was worn. Fraying of chair upholstery. Minibar fridge didn't work and some plugs were loose from the wall and obviously unsafe to use. No kettle for making tea and coffee in the room and room service coffee was very expensive at 6 Euro a cup.
Review 47:The hotel is in need of updating.
Review 48:All the time A/C not working, wifi not working, very bad - and really i dont trust booking.com any more Lot thing it was my bad experiance
Review 49:Nothing not recommend hotel at all
Review 50:Staff in reception did not follow up complains I had a letter to the hotel manger wasn't received
Review 51:The hotel manager was willing to hear me at the end of my stay
Review 52:Slow computers in the business center Lots of internet connectivity problems Ventilation system did not work Poor soap (quality & quantity) Some of the staff in the reception not that good Bed in internal rooms - small and not wide
Review 53:Staff was very rude when approached, no access to the gym from hotel, laundry service not provided as requested and they couldn't find our clothing , ridiculously expensive service, heating system in room not working ( 250 euro per room) , Very disappointed
Review 54:Good location
Review 55:Lack of sun!
Review 56:THE most spectacular panoramic view I have ever seen ANYWHERE in the world from the restaurant on the top floor. Acropolis, Temple of Zeus, St George's Hotel.....Athens. What more can I say.
Review 57:the cheaper rooms available (I am assuming it is only the cheaper rooms) do not have windows and are 'internal' so you have no view whatsoever. I was on a business trip so it was not so important to me but holiday-makers looking to have a nice room with a view should bear it in mind.
Review 58:The view from the restaurant/dining room is fantastic. The highlight of the hotel without a doubt. I also really liked the breakfast. Dinner (and in particular the wine) was a little expensive for the quality but the room prices were good value in my opinion. Professional, friendly and helpful staff too. I also liked the foyer area as there were several areas to sit and rest comfortably and meet business clients in a comfortable and reasonably private setting.
Review 59:bathroom need reconstruction toilet is extremly loud, so at night we hear our neighbours flushing the toilet too small restaurant, we wait for breakfast several minutes weak choice of meals during breakfast, same foods everyday loud traffic in front of hotel
Review 60:location amazing view from roof restaurant
Review 61:We had booked 3 superior rooms and the rooms were comfortable. However in my opinion their weren't 5 stars rooms. The rooms were small and the interiors a bit tired.
Review 62:The hotel is next to the old town Plaka which is great with a fantastic view on the Acropol from the roof top restaurant on the 7th floor. Amazing interiors and the breakfast was a lot to choose from.
Review 63:The hotel has beautiful lobby but very outdated rooms. Old and plain furniture. No additional pillows or blankets. Tv remote did not work. Small bathtub, not enough towels. The hotel is definitely not 5* more like 3-4* mostly due to the location.
Review 64:The hotel is located in the center of Athens, walking distance to the main historical sites and restaurants/bars/tourist shops. Attentive and helpful staff. Clean rooms.
Review 65:I didn't find the reception staff always polite and willing to help. They seem to be bored. I didn't find the bed mattress comfortable at all
Review 66:The location is perfect. The view from the room was very nice.
Review 67:Perfect location at few steps from Acropolis and Plaka, very comfortable & clean room with a great view on Olympian Zeus temple. Nice swimming pool. Personnel was very friendly and kind. I appreciated in particular that to my great surprise I got a room upgrade, checking-in on my birthday! A very nice gift! :)
Review 68:early checkout
Review 69:Perfect location, helpful staff, received free upgrade to room with view of the temple of zeus. fabulous breakfast buffet, pool was even open in November though no time to try it. Restaurant was expensive but food was amazing
Review 70:The staff at the reception was rude and incompetent. They did not even know the hotel policies for baby cribs!!! Absolutely unacceptable for a 5 star hotel staff.
Review 71:Location very close to city center.
Review 72:Traffic at nearby road junction was threatening and caused my wife real concern. Dinner menu in restaurant offers poor choice.
Review 73:Comfortable and convenient. Superb views from top floor.
Review 74:The front of house look received a face lift - the rooms did not Understandably that all need to make profit in their hotels but keep it fair and pricing according to your status. Charging 6 Euro for a coffee is one of the dissapointments!
Review 75:Great location
Review 76:- Taxi drivers does not know the location of the hotel even it is located in the city center - My room was "interior room" I did not recognize that it is a prison room without any window! It was a terrible two days!!
Review 77:Room without window!! Unacceptable. You could hear everything from the next rooms. The door was shaking whenever any other door was closing in the corridor.Even if u wanted to relax, u couldn't. Nothing as a welcome, not even a bottle of water. No bathrobes or slippers.
Review 78:The location, the breakfast view, the night bar drinks and view.
Review 79:Our room was pretty small, the furniture was a bit shabby and dated.
Review 80:Nice breakfast, amazing views from the breakfast room. Loved the location, very central, walking distance to Plaka and other major attractions. The staff are very helpful.
Review 81:Outdated facilities. Cheaply decorated and in need of upgrades. Five-star rates/prices deserve A/C or heat on demand.....not at the whim of management.
Review 82:Location was phenomenal.....close to historic landmarks and shopping areas.
Review 83:Internal double rooms were clostrophobic, no windows , suffocating
Review 84:Internal double rooms were horrible, staff were kind to upgrade to a panoramic view room at a decent charge
Review 85:The room (and especially the bathroom) looked rather outdated, I wouldn't quite call the rooms 5* felt more like 3 and in need of an upgrade -and I did not like that the room stunk of smoke. The room was not quiet, the toilet flush was VERY loud, so at night we could hear our neighbours flushing the toilet (and I bet they could hear us as well). Opening the window meant hearing loud traffic noise. The windows of our room faced the inner patio and other hotel rooms' windows. We would have liked to have more privacy. The staff was not too welcoming nor friendly. It was difficult to find the elevator that led to the restaurant, and when we finally found it, we had to queue up for breakfast. No electric socket at the bedside and the bedside table too far away from the bed. The hairdryer did not work. All in all the hotel felt like 3*, not 5. And not the best 3*, unfortunately.
Review 86:The location of the hotel is very close to Acropolis and Plaka. The restaurant provides a great view upon the Acropolis.
Review 87:We arrived late and they did not have our Booking.com reservation and they did not have a room in the deluxe category we had reserved. It took 30 minutes but it was amicably resolved. They put us in a small room for the first night and a deluxe room for the next 3 nights without charge for the upgrade.
Review 88:The rooftop restaurant with a view of the Acropolis and other nearby ruins is a great feature.
Review 89:We needed a doctor at midnight and the nice, very competent man at the front desk reacted superbly! He immediately arranged for us to go by taxi to a private clinic where we received excellent care/advice. All in all, we LOVED everything else about this hotel as well!
Review 90:We received an upgraded room, staff were friendly and professional, breakfast buffet was excellent and the view from the roof top restaurant was great
Review 91:Th e hotel charged me more as the information about there been one adult and 2 children was not apparently communicated. Cost an extra 150 Euros.
Review 92:Breakfast was good, Location was excellent. Staff spoke good English and were helpful
Review 93:A lot to say and briefly summarized below: - No double bed was provided (It's our honeymoon trip and I have already requested in booking) - After noticing the frontdesk, they Led us to a smaller and smelly room (with double bed). Finally, we had no other choices but to stay in the original room (twin bed). - There was sudden electricity outage (2 times) in the morning on 29 Oct 2015.
Review 94:The location is excellent as it is close to the main visit spots!
Review 95:We had an interior facing room which was horrible, and had no natural lighting / windows. I've never experienced such a depressing room. The airconditioning also didn't work.
Review 96:The rooftop terrace and reataurant was amazing. And the hotel is certainly impressive in the lobby.
Review 97:The Breakfast Box is overpriced and of poor quality for a 5 star hotel. No face towels and slippers were provided.
Review 98:1. Rooftop Bar & Restaurant with panoramic views 2. Location to Plaka & Acropolis & Parthenon 3. Quietness of room location
Review 99:What looked like a double bed was in fact two twins together, made up separately. This was unexpected and disappointing, but since we were only there for 2 nights we did not mention it - I'm sure the hotel would have dealt with it immediately had we done so.
Review 100:Warm welcome, all staff extremely helpful. We were upgraded and were delighted with our beautiful room (Room 204, very large, with a good-sized bathroom with big bath and separate shower). Superb views across to the Temple of Zeus; exceptional location, walking distance to Acropolis, Syntagma Square, the Plaka area. Beautiful rooftop bar and restaurant, wonderful views of Acropolis.
Review 101:the staff do not help at all. The hotel in realty is not at all as the photos on the web side. the hotel is v old that is why everything do not work well.
Review 102:may be the Loaction
Review 103:Old school decor & aged facilities and linen. Uncomfortable beds. No kettle or iron in the room. Extra charge for hot water for tea.
Review 104:Location is perfect for tourists, restaurant at the hotel rooftop has spectacular views of the historical sites.
Review 105:No bedside reading lights unless all the room lights were on A huge spa bath with no overhead shower. Property a bit dated.
Review 106:Good location, comfortable and clean.
Review 107:we had just been traveling for 18 hours and we were looking forward to our room and a good night sleep. Firstly our room wasn't ready, we were there at 2pm and had to wait till 3.45pm to enter our room on the 5th floor, then there was a function above our room from around 8pm on wards, with very, very loud music and very very loud thumping I presume from the dancing until 1.30am, the noise carried on with cleaning at least until 2 to 3am, by this time we were exhausted, after many phone calls to the night manager he told us there was nothing he could do as the hotel was fully booked. I paid for the more expensive room to get the views and all I got was zero in terms of resolution at the time of the issue, incredibly disappointed with the outcome for a 5star hotel, disgusted. This was not a result of bad behavior from a patron, this was an organized event from the hotel knowing the rooms bellow would be affected
Review 108:The breakfast was very nice and the staff overall very courteous and helpful
Review 109:The person at the front desk was GREAT, he upgraded us for free, only after politely asking. The hotel has a fabulous view, in front of 2500 years old monuments.
Review 110:Wanted to close out my bill the night before, as had a 5:15am flight & taxi was picking us up at 3:30am. I asked them twice, but they told me to wait until morning. Of course, the computers were down the next morning. They then asked me to write my credit card # down on a piece of paper. I refused, due to confidentiality/id theft and they could not tell me how much I owed. As I had already prepaid for the room, the only outstanding charge was for a local phone call. I offered to pay 'cash', but they could not tell how much. After much negotiation & discussion, they finally agreed to cover the phone call. which could have not have been more than 0.50. Fortunately, the cab driver waited patiently & then got us to the airport on time.
Review 111:Excellent restaurant & breakfast with fantastic view of the Acropolis. Easy access to/from airport and walking distance to nearby restaurants in the Plaka & museum.
Review 112:The rooms were not so nice. They notice me they upgrade my booking to the next category (very kind) , but the room was absolutely average.
Review 113:The location is perfect ¡ walking distance from the typical turist spots.
Review 114:Restaurant food in evening was microwaved, apart from dishes that had to be cooked fresh. Breakfast was removed sharp 10.00 and this should be changed to 11.00 on weekends . Ordered poached eggs took so long to arrive that i gave up.
Review 115:Central location
Review 116:We didn't like the very poor quality of the carpet in our wing of the hotel. The join between the the luxury carpet of the rest of the hotel and that of our corridor constituted a trip hazard, and the rest of it was laid very unevenly. Apart from being unsafe, this was not a good approach to our 'executive room'.
Review 117:We really liked the roof top restaurant with it's amazing views, having free wi-fi and the availability of a computer and printer, and having a room away from main road traffic noise.
Review 118:Our flight arrived at 945pm and we were bit early for check in. Staff asked us to check back in couple of hours. So around 1400, we thought maybe we can do early check in but nope... we had to wait exactly until 1500. How some people were checking before us so don't know why we couldn't check in little earlier. I wish the staff could have been more accommodating
Review 119:Facilities looked very upscale and the location was great
Review 120:Rather outdated and run down bedrooms that need upgrading, wouldn't quite call the rooms 5* felt more like 3 and in need of an upgrade really the rooms were quite tacky and stunk of smoke.
Review 121:Good location and large spacious rooms, a clean hotel with helpful staff and great views. Gorgeous marble lobby with lovely decor.
Review 122:Hotel is in need of some MAJOR maintenance. Lots of little things that have gone with out maintenance is a HUGE problem. For example, in room, many of the decorator items, pillows, cords for curtains, and carpet have dirty stains that either need to be cleaned or replaced. Additionally, bed spreads are so old that they are not luxurious as one would expect, lots of little pills of fabric from washing them. I could go on, much of furniture is not in the best of shape.
Review 123:view from our balcony
Review 124:They provided a cheap red wine as a complementary not even fruits. I was told by the staff but nothing happened.lift is so small!!!
Review 125:Room with panoramic view and the breakfast. It was superb plus the view!!!
Review 126:staff were attencious but not really friendly and the hotel definitely needs a make over. Looks tired with furniture trying to hide wires in the room. Not what you expect from a 5-star hotel.
Review 127:The location is amazing. Views to the Acropolis and right in front of Zeus Temple with only a short walk to Plaka. The entrance and lobby is also beautiful. Gives you that Athens feel.
Review 128:The hotel room was fairly shabby. The bathroom needed to be done up, there was no controllable air conditioning and there wasn't enough light in the room. This definitely isn't 5 star room - barely a 4 star in my opinion.
Review 129:Great location, nice breakfast on the roof.
Review 130:An oasis in this 4+ million city. Beautiful views from the rooftop restaurant, quiet and serene pool area, excellent service. Very comfortable room. Easily walkable from all ancient sites, museums, -yet away from the hectic of Sintagma Square.
Review 131:The hotel is very comfortable but was too expensive. Greek service generally needs a good shake up if they want to draw in tourism. There is a distinct lack of promptness, welcome smiles & quality service throughout Athens. IN saying that Reception in this hotel was not at all like the rest of Greece (very professional and gracious).
Review 132:Royal Olympic is a lovely old hotel with charming Greek decor. The view from he roof top restaurant was delightful. We missed breakfast due to a sleeping child and incorrect clock and the staff were kind enough to give us coffee, juice and pastries and croissants. We also had to leave early for the airport the second morning and missed the breakfast. The hotel is kind enough to provide coffee, juice and pastries. This was a great option but certainly not worth the cost of the included buffet. Would have been better if I could have opted out of breakfast. The pool is very clean and deep - probably too deep for children (lucky we had flippers to keep the youngun' bouyant).
Review 133:Big hotel, a lot of people (but quality of management and facilities overcomes this) A bit slow in getting an expresso to the table each breakfast (late but reliable serv) Not for every pockets (despite competitive price)
Review 134:Location - walking distance to the centre Stunning views for breakfast Strong overall quality of facilities, incl swiminpool Large and confortable bed Good support to clients, suggestions, despite large number of people One of the most competitive offers I got for its category and location
Review 135:nothing
Review 136:location is soooooo close to plaka . the breakfast in the roof was breath taking the view in the panoramic room was amazing the swimming pool was nice . the food was so delicious .
Review 137:We arrived at 5pm and left at 5am the following morning, but it was the perfect location for our last night in Athens (we were on our honeymoon in Santorini for 9 days prior). It's situated across from the Temple of Zeus and a short walk from the acropolis. The view from our room was awesome - the acropolis lit up at night. We had dinner at the rooftop restaurant - food was great. And overall the hotel had a great feel - and the room prices were reasonable. I'd go back if I returned to Athens.
Review 138:As if something lacks although everything is good.
Review 139:Good district. Close to the center. WiFi is not perfect but ok, which is unusual for Greece. Great view from the restaurant where the breakfast was. Breakfast is great.
