Reviews for GDM Megaron Hotel
Review 1:The exhaust of the ventilation system in the bathroom didn't work properly.
Review 2:We stayed with my wife two nights, the location of the hotel is very convenient and close to the center, and to the port. The service and the breakfast were excellent. The personnel was very friendly.
Review 3:My room was very noisy. They need to address this issue with the rooms that are subject to traffic noise. I found the room to be very dark in the day. The lighting is inadequate.
Review 4:Friendly staff and the hotel has beautiful finishes.
Review 5:Minor things like the warm items on buffet breakfast could have been warmer, and a surprisingly cheap brand of tea served.
Review 6:Location, staff, general comfort; luxurious and well-equipped rooms and public areas
Review 7:No bad experiences. But you should be aware in choosing a room of extreme proximity to the central bus station (noisy). Get a room on the front on the corner furthest away from the station--and on the 3rd or 4th floor.
Review 8:The staff. Wonderful!
Review 9:I paid extra for a view so a floor higher than the first would have achieved a better one. the pool hours were very limited and the rooftop restaurant closed
Review 10:staff and room facilities were topnotch (although internet only worked in bathroom in the evening - noted by other patrons as well and is how I thought to check there, seemed to work better in the morning
Review 11:It must be hard for elder people to climb in the bathtub. Pillows could be softer
Review 12:Friendly staff. Immediately arranged a doctor's visit when I needed one. We didn't have to bother about checking out on time. Beautiful view and close to the center of Heraklion.
Review 13:If on the first floor, on a summer night with the windows open, noise from the bars nearby may be a bit of a problem.
Review 14:Great hotel in a great location. Rooms are spacious, super clean and superbly decorated. Breakfast was amazing too. Very spacious and warmly decorated lobby areas.
Review 15:Parking is an experience. Thankfully staff are very skilled....
Review 16:Great location, super helpful staff (who know both the local food scene and how to park a car well!), nice place. Roof deck basic, but relaxing. Excellent housekeeping.
Review 17:Nothing.
Review 18:Lovely hotel overlooking old port. Close to shops & restaurants. Very helpful staff particularly as the airline lost my bag. Roof top pool and a great sunbathing spot.
Review 19:1st floor lounge a bit dark and not so comfy. stereo systems + tv in room old-school. direct surroundings not so nice (taxi/bus parking lot not very elegant) pool difficult to find (4th floor, through gym, then stairs up to roof)
Review 20:great pastries and bread! central location nice spacious rooms, good quality building, friendly staff
Review 21:When we picked up our car we found that it was parked in the blazing sun so was incredibly hot to get into.
Review 22:Fabulous breakfasts served by really friendly staff. Stunning views from restaurant and from sea view rooms.
Review 23:Parking problems . The pool is smaller than the bath in the room . Better not mention there's a pool.
Review 24:The hotel is amazing . We liked every moment there.
Review 25:No problems
Review 26:Food was wonderful...room great with harbour view.Staff were very helpful.Massage was first class..felt chilled out flying home later that night.
Review 27:Parking is a bit scary (for a tourist in a rented car...) but staff were quick to help.
Review 28:Super location, excellent staff, excellent food...looking forward to a return visit.
Review 29:Breakfast was good, although the manager (?) was a little stern!
Review 30:Brilliant location overlooking the harbour and within 5 minutes walk of the archaeological museum. This is one of the best hotels we've ever stayed in - luxurious beds and bedding, modern bathroom, super quiet (we didn't hear anyone else at all!) On arrival the Reception Desk staff were extremely friendly - offering us cookies and a seat. Our bags were delivered to our upgraded room with no fuss - we just felt so comfortable here and wished we had planned a longer stay.
Review 31:Excellent service, helpful with answering questions Quiet room despite being near the airport Wonderful breakfast on rooftop Great location, convenient to taking ferry to Santorini. Easy walk to city center and pedestrian area
Review 32:Noise from aircraft approaching/leaving HER right above the hotel may be a problem for light sleepers (though they cease flying at around 22:30).
Review 33:Swimming pool on the rooftop is awesome - you are in the middle of Heraklion waiting for your flight, but the holiday feeling is still in full swing! Would like to commend Effie - she is the best receptionist/concierge I have ever encountered. All in all, it's difficult to come up with any particular praise - the hotel is near perfect all round.
Review 34:The bathrooms are an accident waiting to happen. Who on the earth thought of using highly varnished wooden floors in a bathroom. I was very careful, but still had a heavy fall. So did my brother-in-law in his room. They are very dangerous.
Review 35:I liked the location, and the views from the top-floor breakfast room and restaurant were fantastic.
Review 36:the fitness centre is insufficient it could have been better
Review 37:the location was wonderful very friendly helpful staff excellent breakfast very comfortable spacios rooms convenıent parkıng place ...
Review 38:Gracious accommodations with high-ceilinged lounges and nice in-room amenities. Excellent buffet breakfast with wide variety. Great view from restaurant/pool floor. Very friendly staff, who are also responsive by e-mail. On-site parking (no valet needed) is a major plus for travellers who arrive by car.
Review 39:car park was full most days, first night we have a view of a brothel.
Review 40:the breakfast was delicious, location was great, view from pool was great, staff were lovely
Review 41:The beds were too soft for our liking.
Review 42:The staff was extremely helpful especially Effie - she is an angel! Name your wish and they figure it out for you! Breakfast was elaborate and sumptuous - unbeatable!
Review 43:occasional overhead noise in bedroom from restaurant.
Review 44:Great location and view. Easy to walk all over Heraklion from there. Delightful and friendly staff. Brilliant breakfast on roof terrace of hotel. Large comfortable room with excellent air conditioning.
Review 45:We recently spent seven days at this amazing, ideally located hotel, the staff were very helpful and informative. The accommodation was of a very high standard with particularly well performing air conditioning! Without hesitation, I would recommend this hotel. At some point I'll return. Ps at the bar ask for a mojito, delicious.
Review 46:The pool is very small.
Review 47:True 5* hotel nearby the port. Very nice rooms, facilities and good restaurant on the roof with a very nice view. Excellent breakfast buffet.
Review 48:We had aints in our room! We had room upgrade , but it was still small. The swimming pool is quite ridiculous .
Review 49:Staff was very helpful and friendly . Breakfast was very good . The hotel is nicely decorated .
Review 50:Nothing
Review 51:This is a great hotel opposite the old harbour and so close to the port. It's also walking distance to Heraklion city centre. The standard room was spacious, with the biggest and most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. Breakfast in the restaurant on the roof was delightful, both in setting and selection on offer. The staff could not do enough for you especially the bar/restaurtant staff. I highly recommend this hotel.
Review 52:There are no beaches in proximity, have to travel by bus approximately 40 minutes to get to the beach.
Review 53:Staff were super friendly and helpfull. The location is quite central to everything, the port, bus stations both local and intercity and the city centre. Facilities are also great with an increadinle view at the restaurant at the roof.
Review 54:Excellent location 10 minutes from the airport for a very early flight and the 5th floor restaurant was just superb. Great views. Great food. Great wine. Great people.
Review 55:smell in the room. But they did offer to move us and handled it very professionally! No complaints at all x
Review 56:Very attentive staff that were extremely helpful. Very comfortable beds and rooms and just what you expect from 5 star! Bravo... Excellence in service!!
Review 57:Heard the noise by the planes until midnight.
Review 58:Very nice breakfast, lots of variety of food to choose. Delicious food with beautiful view. The room is big.
Review 59:Breakfast eventhough very good and tasty in quality was not pleasant because of the way it was served since the venue and tables were not well organised. As nobody wanted to eat on the terrace without proper air conditioning it was overcrowded indooors.
Review 60:A nice and well located hotel to visit Crete
Review 61:We expected a decent pool after we checked some photos on booking.com. However, it turned out that the size of roof pool is extremely small. It barely accomodates 2 or 3 people at most.
Review 62:It is close to port and provided lovely night view. Its location is great and close to main bus station which would take you to the most of your potential destinations.
Review 63:I loved everything about this hotel!!!
Review 64:One of the best hotels I've stayed in Greece. The location is great as it is just near two bus stations (short walk up top for bus to local beaches (went to Karteros Beach - water sooo clear) and just outside hotel for Knossos). So that elimnated need for a car. Airport is very near so yes, you can see many planes taking off... but rooms are sound-proof so all good. Taxi cost €15 to hotel. City centre is a five minute walk. Hotel has great sea views, amazing roof-top restaurant, awesome wi-fi throughout, fittings and beds are excellent and the staff is A-1... Could not fault the place. I liked it so much, I did not want to leave...!!!
Review 65:No outdoor furniture on balconies. If I had been on holiday I would have been disappointed. The bed should have been a size smaller...making more space in the room. The back of the building requires attention. It is the reason we have not stayed there before.
Review 66:The cleanliness. It was very quiet in fact we did not see anyone. It could have been empty. More staff than guests.
Review 67:the service in the restaurant was very slow - the quality was great, but it took ages. also, the sauna and changing room/bathroom was behind a locked door, separate from the gym, so when I went to the gym I had to go all the way back to the room to change, use the bathroom, etc - and it seems a bit much that using the sauna costs extra money when the gym and pool are included!
Review 68:Very close to the bus station, comfortable room, quiet, the desk staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 69:nothing, only cannot use my crited card which has Union pay and master mark. That is strange situation in European
Review 70:Perfect location, the bus station just down stairs. The room is quite and perry.
Review 71:The price a bit expensive otherwise it's perfect place to be
Review 72:Everything was perfectly done : 1- room service 2- clean environment 3- close to shopping district 4- perfect view from the restaurant 5- awesome staff
Review 73:Nothing bad!!!
Review 74:When I write a review, I try and give some balance; this is what is good, this is what is bad but... I don't have anything negative to say about the GDM Megaron so this is going to be an unabashed gush. The location is ideal; less than a ten minute walk from the ferry port, near the bus station, and within easy walking distance surrounding restaurants, bar and shops. The staff were all super helpful and friendly - from the receptionists who checked us in and out, to the wait staff, to the manager, everyone was great and tried to provide what we needed, and did so with a smile. The room? Fabulous. Good size. Big, comfy bed. Large bathroom (with a tv in it! Oh, the decadence!). Large balcony. Couch. Wide screen TV. Bathrobes. Kettle. Fridge. Loved it. We didn't visit the restaurant for an evening meal but we were up on there for breakfast and what a place to have breakfast. The view over the harbour was gorgeous, and the wide choice available for breakfast will satisfy everyone. (Though they zealously remove the food from the buffet tables when breakfast is over. Do not be late, and do not even arrive 10 minutes before closing; they will whip it away before you have tried everything!) The pool deserves a mention. Sure, it's size means you aren't going to train for the Olympics in it but on our final morning, lazily gliding about the pool in the sun, while keeping one eye on the fort in the harbour is one of my favourite memories of this place. What else? The decor is all lovely and stylish. Okay, enough gushing. GDM Megaron is more expensive than a lot of other hotels in the city but, in my opinion, it is worth it and, coming to the end of our Greek holiday, it was the perfect place to celebrate the good times we had had.
Review 75:The pool was small.
Review 76:The location is fantastic next to the port and the bus station. The spread of the breakfast was huge with a great view. The service was impeccable.
Review 77:Parking, bed starts to be pretty worn off, don't expect to have a swim in the pool...
Review 78:Breakfast, staff (at the breakfast, very nice and friendly shift supervisor), the overall quality of the facilities - no bad surprises
Review 79:There was no valet outside the hotel to park the car. This made it difficult as there was no parking space and the reception is two floors up. Once we got to reception we had help, but by that time we had already struggled with parking/luggage. Room design was strange (with huge TV in the middle of the room).
Review 80:Amazing views for sunset on roof-top terrasse. Large clean room. Excellent breakfast. Very friendly staff. Walking distance to many restaurants.
Review 81:This hotel is very conveniently located for both the airport and seaport. It's centrally located position is ideal for access to restaurants, shops, points of interest.
Review 82:Nothing to complain.
Review 83:Extremely friendly and helpful stuff, very clean, perfect view and location (near port, bus station and center), rich choice of perfect delicious food for breakfast.
Review 84:Nothing at all, would have liked to stay longer.
Review 85:We loved the location with the gorgeous views over the harbour. The staff were really pleasant and helpful, and the breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. Our room was lovely, very comfortable, and the bed was so comfortable that we didn't want to get out of it in the morning. It was good to have a kettle and fridge in the room, and complimentary water when we arrived. We enjoyed the lovely little pool on the roof, and the views as we sipped our cocktails in the rooftop bar at night.
Review 86:actually nothing except beds might have been a little bigger.
Review 87:hoel and restaurant staff were oustanding nothing was too much trouble. breakfast was terrific and room had great view. great to watch sunset from roof top.
Review 88:traffic was a bit noisy with the buses but everything else was so wonderful it just didn't matter.
Review 89:The room was wonderful, the breakfast was fabulous. The service was so friendly.
Review 90:Honestly can't find.. maybe the fact that they are so good they were fully booked
Review 91:So where can I start?! The service was amazing, the variety of food was very big. The location is at the best location.
Review 92:WIFI could be a liitle slow
Review 93:Great location in the centre of town close to the port. Large very well appointed rooms, comfortable beds. Excellent rooftop restaurant and bar with a small swimming pool. Friendly and helpful staff. All at very reasonable rates
Review 94:The Megatron is ideally located - 10 minutes from the airport, a short stroll from the Old Town centre and next to the national bus station. Excellent facilities, super restaurant and very friendly, helpful staff. The rooms are beautiful, well equipment and spacious. And very quiet.
Review 95:This is really nitpicky but it's why it's not a perfect 10. The beautiful wood floors in the bathroom weren't polished and there were water marks on the glass shower door.
Review 96:I loved the location (one minute walk from the bus station), the corner room on the 4th floor, 407, the gorgeous breakfast, the spacious bedroom and great bathroom. Best of all, however, is the amazing view and the doors that open onto the wrap-around balcony. With the doors closed at night, the room is almost silent despite being close to the take-off runway at the nearby airport. Great sleep quality.
Review 97:My room was very comfortable, with a little sitting area and desk. My view was on a small street very quiet at night, the bathroom was small but nicely equipped. Breakfast is a fabulous buffet and the view on the port from the restaurant is exquisite. The location is great, close to everything of interest in the old town and to a bus stop to go to Knossos.
Review 98:Need more instruction to drive to parking area.
Review 99:Excellent interior, impressive roof top restaurant. Wonderful breakfast. Good access to ferries and bus-stop
Review 100:Nothing, it was all good
Review 101:The friendliness and helpfulness of every member of staff - they all seemed genuinely interested in ensuring you had a great time. Location was ideal and the 5th Bar, restaurant had amazing foods and fantastic food. Free wifi was appreciated too.
Review 102:It's a ashamed the pool is so small but we enjoyed cooling off after a day sight-seeing.
Review 103:From the moment the receptionist welcomed us everything was perfect. The room was lovely, the bed was comfortable, the staff were kind and attentive and the breakfast was delicious.
Review 104:Would have liked more TV channels in English. Planes taking off caused some noise during the day, but living near Heathrow, this was not really a problem.
Review 105:From arrival to check out staff were helpful, cheerful and very approachable. Breakfasts were amazing, eaten on the terrace of the top floor restaurant, great variety of quality food on offer daily. Room, indeed, all areas of the hotel were spotless, the bed comfortable and the aircon worked well.
Review 106:Effi and all the staff (George in Restaurant) will go out of their way to make sure you have a comfortable and pleasant stay. We had to leave early in the morning to catch a flight to Athens, they had coffee, muffins, cookies, ready waiting for us and prepared a take away snack bag for our trip (sandwich, fruit and water) and organised a taxi, hassle free and made sure we got to the airport on time, Now that's five star service.
Review 107:I believe that for a five star breakfast should be richer and I think that the hotel needs some maintance outside and inside.
Review 108:Nice location excellent view and well trained staff
Review 109:There was no iron in the room. Of course you can pay for services but that was a little pricy compared to other parts of crete.
Review 110:Just great! This was our last night in crete before catching a ferry and couldn't ask for anything more! Great service. Amazing breakfast. Upgraded rooms. And even a nice pool on the roof which was nice to grab a bottle of wine and look over the city.
Review 111:The rooms are a little on the small side and the view of the water has big ships and an old decrepidated building in front. The gym is small: 1 treadmill, 1 stairclimber, 1 power plate; and a weight machine. The pool is shallow and small. Good to cool off not to swim. Wifi is flaky
Review 112:I found this hotel to be a very good value. The staff is especially friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet is really really good. The restaurant has a great view. The tubs are deep and modern.
Review 113:Above and beyond help planning our onward travel arrangements.... Thank you....You help us make the most of our time with some great travel recommendations.
Review 114:The hotel is in of the best you will find in create. It is ideal for stop over if island hopping as it is next to port. Everything is great about the hotel and staff, we even got an upgrade free and had TV in bathroom!!
Review 115:Fabulous location on the water near the Venetian port. Also walking distance to the new port, so great for taking a day trip to Santorini or other islands. The staff were amazing- very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was fabulous, and the rooftop restaurant was one of our best dining experiences on Crete.
Review 116:The pillows were hard.
Review 117:The breakfast bars had everything that I could imagine. All was well prepared---including the scrambled eggs. And the baked goods were original and delicious---baked in-house!
Review 118:Location was excellent, overlooking the port, beside restaurants, museums, shops etc. and easy to drive to the hotel from airport. Good buffet breakfast.
Review 119:This was a beautiful hotel in a great location- just across the street from the ferry and bus depot. We only stayed one night in Heraklion in order to take the ferry to Santorini and my husband was so impressed with the luxuriousness of the hotel that he wanted to stay longer! They had the absolute best breakfast selection that I've seen in any hotel, especially the selection of sweets and pastries.
Review 120:The only think I disliked is not really the fault of the hotel. One night a cafe/bar in the harbour decided to through a party with loud music. Although the windows are well sound proof we could hear the bass and my wife couldn't sleep. But the hotel staff was really great and gave us another room on the back side of the hotel just for this night. That is real customer service!
Review 121:Big compliment to the staff! The do everything to make your stay a good time. The rooms are spacious and the furnishing is high quality. The bed is huge and very comfortable. The rooms are sound proof. You can barely hear the noise from the busy harbour road and the air plains that take off directly over downtown Heraklion.
Review 122:The rooms are a bit clairaudient, we could hear the people above us moving furniture.
Review 123:Very nice hotel in an old building close to harbor and the old town. Staff is very helpful and breakfast was amazing.
Review 124:Downside is the hotel is in the flight path of planes taking off from Heraklion airport.
Review 125:Stylishly restored boutique hotel with polished service, excellent amenities (rooftop pool) and fantastic central location to old town and port.
Review 126:Great central location with easy access to the Venetian fort, downtown Heraklion, and the main port. The onsite restaurant was very good and the staff were very helpful.
Review 127:Conveniently located downtown, in walking distance to a bunch of sites, this was our "splurge" hotel on a 2 week trip. It was the only one where the Wi-Fi actually worked without a single hiccup. Great breakfasts. The room was spacious, and had a couple of balconies with nice views over the Venetian harbor. The staff were friendly, but not obtrusive. They were kind enough to park our car for us in the street below when we arrived, late, the first evening.
Review 128:Excellent room very comfortable.Staff always eager to help a very beautiful, clean and tastefully modern hotel. We would like to return for a longer stay.
Review 129:Roof top restaurant and pool not open as cold Noisy through the windows, should invest in better glazing
Review 130:All the staff were amazig particulalry on reception Rooms spotlessly clean Free wifi Location great , near so many restaurants
Review 131:1. Terrace (top of the Hotel) was closed and no access to go there. This was to be informed before. However, it was not informed in advance even after booking the hotel. When we arrived there and asked then staff told about this. 2. Food was little bit expensive but quality was very good. Ambient was also good. 3. You can't smoke inside the room. You have to go out. This is good but it was not informed or mentioned on Website or informed in advance. 4. For water - They provided water as complimentary (only 500 ml on the arrival day). After that, each half litter of bottle you will have to pay I think € 2.5. Outside, same quality of water, you will get 1.5 lt in 60 Cent. They should provide everyday atleast 2 bottles of water free but this is not the case. 5. This hotel is perfect if somebody would like to visit heraklion and near that area. For visiting the main location of crete (Chania, Rethymnon) where most of the best beaches are there is not possible in short duration of stay (traveller who is dependent on public Transport). It is better to stay between chania and Heraklion. 6. I think this hotel will be considered as best hotel for Heraklion visit. However, if somebody really want to stay near sea beach then no hotel in heraklion will be an option. It is better to stay in a Resort which is directly connected to sea beach. This hotel is almost 500 m away from sea (in fact there is no sea beach near the hotel location) 7. You will have to take care while booking the hotel room (only sea facing is very good). Back or side facing is very close to other public buildings which looks awkward. Back of the hotel there is a narrow passage or lane which does not feel you that you are staying in 5 star hotel
Review 132:1. Very good connectivity (Close to airport, city and public transport) 2. Staff were very nice 3. Food quality was very good 4. Room was excellent (Junior suite) 5.
Review 133:There was a smell of mold in the bathroom each time we used the shower.
Review 134:Excellent staff, very comfortable room, fantastic view to the port. Top quality breakfast buffet - large variety of fresh and warm high quality food.
The Fine Print
