Reviews for Bunratty Castle Hotel

Review 1:Room quite dated. Sauna was out of action. Clients should assume there will be a function at this hotel.

Review 2:Great location for a wedding. Spa is good. And the staff are great. Breakfast was top-class. Really delicious.

Review 3:Bedrooms were quite dated. Love the fact that it isn't overly modern and keeps the traditional Irish feel but bedrooms should be done up a little. New bedding, curtains etc.

Review 4:Beautiful setting and picturesque surroundings

Review 5:We've stayed here several times in the last few years. The improvements to the rooms and the common areas are lovely. The rates are very reasonable for the high quality received.

Review 6:The bed in our room was not very comfortable. There was a wedding in the hotel on both nights we were staying and some of the guests were staying on our corridor so was quite noisy at night. Did not have a good nights sleep either night. also our room was overlooking the treatment plant of the hotel.

Review 7:Hotel was warm and staff very friendly. Breakfast was very good with alot on offer.

Review 8:The breakfast was the worst ever breakfast out of any hotel. Bad selection, stale muffins, just tasted horrible.

Review 9:The staff were nice, the location was fab and the evening food was good. The room was old fashioned but nice and clean.

Review 10:This is my 2nd year in a row going overnight to see Santa with young children and I felt that the hotel lacked Christmas atmosphere both years actually as the effort for decorations appears to be a miserable effort approach. This can be fixed easily but I won't bother next year mainly for this reason.

Review 11:No dislikes

Review 12:Excellent facilities. Room better than expectations. Pool. Jacuzzi superb. Staff very friendly and professional. We will certainly stay again.

Review 13:The room we we're in the power didn't work,we were moved to an upgraded room. The room we moved to was very nice except i was never told to put your card in slot to keep the lights on.The fireplace wouldn't work so i had to call about that, but the really big one was an hour and forty five minutes late so we missed our bus.one more the cold water didn't work in the shower so could not shower.

Review 14:Nice hotel very nice rooms, friendly staff.

Review 15:There was a wedding that night. Very difficult to sleep due to noise. Would check if any major event was planned at hotel prior to booking in future.

Review 16:Close to airport

Review 17:No drinking water in room. Spa fully booked with non guest booking. V poor food in Kathleen's bar. Stone cold plates to put hot breakfast on.

Review 18:Beautiful decor. Spa. Nice room

Review 19:Room doors close loudly!

Review 20:Loved the staff. Sandra and Ciara were wonderful. My daughter loved the pool and fitness center. Everyone was more than helpful and very fruendly

Review 21:Easy access from Shannon Airport. The hotel was very comfortable, rooms quiet, public spaces inviting, food in bar okay, convenient location, great home base.

Review 22:Bar facilities. Breakfast a little disappointing.

Review 23:Location, cleanliness, professional staff, beautiful decor and surroundings. Afternoon tea was a very enjoyable experience.

Review 24:Room was basic. We were upgraded as a surprise from our daughters but there was no difference in rooms so we put money towards A meal. No entertainment in hotel

Review 25:Pool area

Review 26:Tour groups stay here, so don't expect a quaint B&B experience.A bit nicked up...but nothing major. A quiet room in the back of thehotel turns this property from an 8 rating to a 9.

Review 27:Fifteen minutes on uncongested motorway from Shannon Airport (which isso much better than dub). Peace of mind knowing you will make yourflight because you won't be using Ireland's scenic but slowroads...say from Doolin or Adare. Location is very close walkingdistance (all within a 100 yard radius) to two great pubs, nice shoppingand the castle.

Review 28:No WiFi - that bitbuzz really is poor. Bedside light BOTH sides of bed needed. Luckily the bed was so big (& we are quite small), so we could lie on it sideways & both get some reading light. Hair dryer poor.

Review 29:Staff fab, bathroom v good, room lovely Spa was v good do need to warn in advance of arrival about swimming hat rule though

Review 30:Location, near to Shannon airport, good for overnight stay. Good clean room with large comfortable bed. Good breakfast, excellent value. Polite and helpful staff.

Review 31:That I couldn't stay longer. Bit of a rabbit warren, easy to be misled when going from reception to your room.

Review 32:Really great room, good sized bathroom. No better location if heading to castle banquet.

Review 33:The mattress on the bed was very tired but the room was large and clean and the rest of the property very nice.

Review 34:This was a lovely hotel in a quaint area. We were only here for a brief overnight so would love to have seen the castle, etc.

Review 35:My only complaint was that I requested a boxed Continental Breakfast since we had an early flight. The young lady who took my request assured me it would be ready the next morning. She had a sheet which appeared to be specifically for those requests for Continental Breakfast bookings. When I arrived the next morning a gentlemen who was of Indian descent basically told me that they did not provide Continental Boxed Breakfasts. My guess is that he did not turn in the sheet to have them made that morning so we walked away with no breakfast. Bummer

Review 36:Room was nice

Review 37:Terrible noise, drunks and party goers kept us awake most of the night . If they want weddings and parties then perhaps would be better not to have normal travellers.

Review 38:Booked because it was close to the airport

Review 39:Our only disappointment was with the Wifi or Internet Access which was difficult and complicated to use and did not work as well as all the other places we stayed for two weeks in Ireland.

Review 40:The hotel is close to Shannon Airport and while waiting for your flight, it is a short walk away from the wonderful Castle and Folk Park which we enjoyed. There are several restaurants close to the Hotel which also has restaurants of its own. The Hotel is comfortable and adaptable to your needs.

Review 41:Room above kitchen so machines no icy at night.

Review 42:Lovely big room/bed great breakfast and leisure facilities - lovely friendly/helpful Irish staff

Review 43:Very poor standard hotel all round. Once we returned home we realized that we had been charged for 2 breakfasts that we did not have. Called the hotel 3 times to get refunded and still nothing. The staff were the least helpful I've ever encountered in a hotel.

Review 44:We didnt have a phone in our room so couldn't call the other rooms in our party or order room service. The staff did offer to change our room but we only had 1 night left, great service though!!

Review 45:The hotel staff were amazing!!

Review 46:Cant find anything I didn't like

Review 47:Fab room with lots of space and very comfy bed.great service and I loved that the mixer minerals were in the fridge.

Review 48:It would be hard to find something to dislike about this hotel

Review 49:I was very impressed with the cleaning staff/maids who took great care and concern with their jobs and assignments. They were very nice when I had a problem with the tv

Review 50:my first room smelled moldy and the windows didn't lock at all. My second room was better. The elevator was dirty. The staff was not overly friendly.

Review 51:The location is great.

Review 52:This castle inside is like a hotel. Slamming doors early in the morning from people getting an early start to the day.

Review 53:Just a short stroll down to this awesome pub called Durty Nellie's established 1620!

Review 54:No complaints, nothing to fault.

Review 55:Location is the best if you are attending Bunratty banquet. Close to shops and pubs. Staff is friendly and wifi works well. Good breakfast

Review 56:The room we had was a little tired and for an executive suite had lots of little broken bits and bobs, window fixing handles on cupboards etc.

Review 57:The staff at the steak restaurant were very friendly. The reception staff were friendly but didn't let us know some of the things that would have helped with our stay, we needed money for the lockers in the spa, where the breakfast restaurant was located etc.

Review 58:We recently had a wedding at Bunratty with over 115 guest accompanying us from England. We cannot praise the staff enough. They could not do enough to help make the day run smoothly. The venue is amazing with so much for all our guests to do. The rooms were spotless and spacious. Food was 1st class at the wedding and also in the restaurant (amazing staff). We give this hotel and its staff 10 out of 10. Amazing place.

Review 59:The hotel was very run down! Our toilet didn't work, the seat slipped, dirty shower curtain, the doors banged super loud every time anyone went in or out! There were people huddled smoking as you entered door, beer bottles all around the front. There was a wedding and we could barely get to reception desk, the person there was short and not welcoming.

Review 60:Nothing really, worse night in 3 week vacation.

Review 61:Everything was spot on,the staff were helpful and very friendly, the room were very clean and comfortable, i didn't want to leave my bed the next morning lol.. would highly recommend and hope to see you soon, thank you for a great stay :)

Review 62:Felt that the advertisement for the room was a bit false as it showed a double bed but we ended up with two single beds

Review 63:Fibber magees steakhouse and kathleens bar

Review 64:Blinds and bedside light broken. Bathroom filthy. Bulbs missing from ceiling. Looked like the room hadn't been used or cleaned for a long time. Was a discounted rate on room but still expect cleanliness and quality accommodation.

Review 65:Location and staff both very good

Review 66:The breakfast buffet was not worth the $ at all ... scrambled eggs were powdered, choices for the $ not a good bargain, oatmeal was from a box and very soupy. I was very disappointed. I also though it was weird to have a wedding reception or cocktails in main sitting area of hotel and it did seem that the bar was taken over by the wedding so we had to go off site to eat that night.

Review 67:Bed was super comfortable. AC which was nice. Rooms on lst floor.

Review 68:My husband and I would both agree that the evening we checked inthat the receptionist didnt have the warmest of welcomes for us. Wejust found her a bit mechanical as opposed to say, the receptioniston the morning of our departure whom I spoke with, and was mostpleasant and smiling.

Review 69:We loved the hotel grounds. We liked the fact that it was situated nearthe old castle. The breakfast was absolutely delicious.

Review 70:Perfect location to be close to the Bunratty castle (we did the medieval feast at 8:45, which made getting back to the hotel super easy - especially since there was lots of wine at the feast) :)

Review 71:The location was great for enjoying the Bunratty Castle. We walked throughout the area, enjoyed a great lunch at a close pub, and had a great time at the Castle Banquet.

Review 72:Front desk ladies were not particularly friendly or approachable. Hey ladies.....we are spending our hard earned money at your hotel so about a smile and a warm welcome when we check in or stop by to ask a question??

Review 73:Clean and comfortable room. Great bar service. Proximity to airport and traditional music across the road.

Review 74:Odd odor in our hallway and room.

Review 75:This is a nice hotel. We spent the night here before our departure from Shannon Airport. So for us it was a place to crash before going home, and we had reservations for the feast at Bunratty Castle (highly recommend) that night. So the location is very convenient. Bunratty Castle and Dirty Nelly's Pub are right across the street, and there are some nice shops nearby as well. Our room and hallway had a off odor, maybe musty, but the room was very nice, had a full tub, and also had both European, and American power outlets which was nice.

Review 76:We had booked in for massages in the spa the morning we were checking out and asked at reception if we needed to check out before our app or if it was ok to check out when we were done. We were told checkout was 1130 and if we hadn't checked out by 1pm we would be charged 30euro. I thought they could have been more accommodating since we were using facilities within the hotel.

Review 77:Reception staff could have been a little more friendly at such an iconic tourist location. Dining room/breakfast staff were lovely

Review 78:Room was lovely. Really spacious and comfortable

Review 79:Best hotel stay during our trip to Ireland. Beds were comfortable, hotel was quiet and showers were strong and warm. Family enjoyed the sauna and pool!

Review 80:The hotel had a wedding planned. It was hard to use the pub and late in the evening, kids running in the hallways. Would not book a weekend stay again. Fourth time we stayed at this location.

Review 81:Great way ending a trip

Review 82:Cases left after check out - unsecured area and dirty (overflow area) - hidden areas may be in need of a deep clean!

Review 83:Spa - excellent - very helpful staff member!

Review 84:Breakfast buffet choice good; Too many people for the limited staff available to serve and seat folks. Hand/shower soap: bring your own "large" bar of soap. All hotels in Ireland, except chains like Hilton, provide a very small bar of soap, much like a Motel 6 in USA.

Review 85:Most everything

Review 86:Front desk staff (on arrival) and carpet in lobby and the breakfast. When we arrived May 23, our reservation was for 3 nights (I had aconfirmation) but the clerk insisted it was only for two--and thatfurthermore, if and when she found a room, she would have to make surethe paperwork worked with Booking.com! (That was not my problem!)Carpet in lobby was dreadful--stretched, dirty etc., but in fairness, they were changing it by the time we left. Breakfast was really poor, steam table quality and the staff was not particularly helpful. Worst breakfasts after 2 weeks in Ireland. Thankfully, the front desk staff on May 24 and 25 were much friendlier.

Review 87:Room was great. Bed was super, room was spacious and bath was just fine.

Review 88:None

Review 89:Went there for a wedding. Hotel was fantastic, staff couldn,t do enough for us.Food was great and plentiful.A special thanks to Michelle & Breige who made the wedding day a success as dinner was served with great orginisional skill. Thanks

Review 90:The room was far from what was advertised - although it was clean it was certainly not a 'superior' double room. Television screen had a red line running down the side of it and there was only a few channels - no Sky channels. Only good thing I can say about room is...the bed was comfortable. The hotel photos are very out of date - very misleading too in regards to the quality of the hotel you might expect from those website photos.

Review 91:The bed was comfortable

Review 92:Location. Also, I wrote a good review of the property when we stayed last year, but did note that the furnishings were a bit tired. This year, it looks like some serious upgrading was done and our rooms were lovely.

Review 93:On our first night, there was a wedding at the hotel with small children running the halls, laughing, and screaming until Inon stop until I finally confronted them at 11:30pm. Stayed on the second floor next to the lift. It was quite loud that evening, For those light sleepers, ask for a top level floor, away from the lift, and bring ear plugs.

Review 94:You cannot beat the location. The staff also was very helpful (both in the hotel and the bar).

Review 95:I would have expected more maintenance from a youth hostel than what I saw from our room, Towel hook ripped out of door, toilet seat hardly held onto the base, bedroom art literally hanging cockeyed/diagonal on the wall. Something is wrong here in room maintenance and cleaning supervision. Too bad, because it wouldn't take much to improve this place. I would not choose this place again. Stay at a B&B that's a little further away for a lower price and better mIntenance.

Review 96:Good gym, nice location next to Buntatty Castle and Durty Nelli's

Review 97:Room 418 shower - deplorable, only a trickle of water, adjustable head not working, towel rack falling off wall. Guinness - terrible, had to go to other pup for a decent one,

Review 98:Function room.

Review 99:The rooms were a good size but could use renovations - three bathroom knobs were loose - toilet, shower and faucet, and there were no hooks for towels. No mini refrigerator or safe in room. Breakfast buffet was awful - nothing cooked to order.

Review 100:You can't beat the location - walking distance to Bunratty Castle and Durty Molly restaurant, and an easy 20 minute drive to Shannon Airport.

Review 101:The bed is hard, the bottom sheet doesn't cover, the duvet is too warm, the continental breakfast is disappointing.

Review 102:Great location, pretty hotel, quiet.

Review 103:Staff was extremely helpful and pleasant. Flight came in at 7:00AM, but Check-in was 3:00PM. Front desk accommodated us with (very) early check-in. Hotel room was comfortable and very charming. Great location to airport. Breakfast buffet was great!

Review 104:Staff member who handled me at reception was a bit flat and sharp. Proceeded to tell me that payment was taken on arrival, seemed only interested in that and then wanted rid of me. Breakfast is a normal buffet and when paying 90euro i expected a bit more. Stayed at this hotel a few years ago and seems to have gone down hill a bit since.

Review 105:The location is very handy to the motorway and is also very quiet. Right beside Bunratty Castle. A great pub Durty Nellys is only a minutes walk away and does great food.

Review 106:Didn't feel like the cleanest of places. Quality of breakfast not great either.

Review 107:Good location, decent bed, nice little bar/pub too where you can eat quite well.

Review 108:No bath mat in room stains on carpet marks on walls view from room was awful facing a graveyard on one side and the roof with boilers etc on the other side.... wifi system was really poor and complicated in logging in.... needs a major revamp not value for money

Review 109:Food was lovely

Review 110:We asked for a double bed and got two twins pushed together. The beds kept separating. In the late night we couldn't sleep so they moved us into a suite that looked like it hadn't been used in months. Not comfortable.

Review 111:Staff was accommodating and friendly. The reception area was very nice and enjoyed Kathleen's Bar.

Review 112:My sister and are ( in our 50's) didn't like how far we had to walk with all our luggage to find our room. After we got off the lift with 3 bags each and no help offered, we walked down several corridors and thru 2 sets of doors. The gal at the front desk seemed like she was trying to be nice but we were really not going to get much help from her. Don't think she wanted to be bothered with us. After 27 days in Ireland a little help would have been nice!

Review 113:We liked that our room was ready when we arrived at 11:00am! That was fantastic and so appreciated! Very clean and lovely veiw out the window.

Review 114:This place is worn out and stinky, old carpet, windows that fall out upon attempting to open them.

Review 115:This location is up to the individual traveler. It is convenient to the Shannon Airport via the city bus, very cheap and easily accessible. Very helpful and friendly lady upon checking-in.

Review 116:Staff in bar were quite rude. Receptionists seemed disinterested. Decor of hotel is outdated and shabby. Smell of smoke in hallways was horrible.

Review 117:The bed was fantastic and the room temp was also nice, not too warm and not too cold. Really nice friendly feel with the other guests, nice and relaxed

Review 118:Found staff in the bar to be very slow. We ate in Kathleens bar on Sunday afternoon. We had to go to the bar and wait for waitress so we could place our order and then when we got our food it was very tasteless. Very disappointed with food and service at the bar.

Review 119:Could not regulate heating/air con from room, which was too warm. Needed to use the mobile air con unit to cool down room, but this was very noisy. WiFi codes out of date.

Review 120:Good bar food and good variety in breakfast buffet.

Review 121:sent in an email beforehand to ask about late checkout on monday 23 march it was our anniversary but receptionist didnt know about it and was quiet rude and loud in hef dealings with us

Review 122:fab hotel excellent location food lovely

Review 123:The room was a little small when I booked I was told it was a superior room and was expecting it to be bigger When we arrived we felt cold and asked one of the ladies to help and she came to the room and looked at it and said she would get help but never came back The next morning just after 10 the cleaners were knocking on the door and we felt very rushed by them doing this

Review 124:The location

Review 125:Having to leave!

Review 126:Loved it all so much that we came back with the parents so they could experience the hotel, castle and the criac all within such close walking distance we didnt even need jackets. Luxuriously spacious rooms on 4th floor executive corridor...looking forward to our next visit

Review 127:Breakfast a bit disappointing - no tea or coffee pots to bring to table - very slow toasters - had to hunt for salt and pepper to bring to our table!

Review 128:Nice atmosphere - staff very pleasant - bedroom clean and comfortable

Review 129:Breakfast - We were seated in what felt like a hallway. It was quite cold. The breakfast itself was only lukewarm

Review 130:Had beautiful dinner in Kathleen's Bar. Fabulous comfortable bed

Review 131:Couldn't get hold of a member of staff at reception late at night to put in an order for early morning continental breakfast ( as offered) prior to leaving the hotel. But it didn't matter I had a lovely time.

Review 132:Loved exploring the castle just down the road; Loved eating at the Creamery just next door; Loved the live music and irish hospitality at Durty Nelly's next door to the Castle - all within a minute of the Hotel. Hotel was lovely and clean. Can see why it is particularly appealing for weddings. Room was very spacious as was the bathroom. Hotel was 6 euro bus ride from airport and 7 euro bus ride from Limerick whic was a great day trip out too. Airport buses start at 5.32 a.m.!

Review 133:The toilet was a disaster for flushing. The shower door seal was non existent so the bathroom was soaked after a shower. The service in Kathleen's bar was not good at all really, staff were very pleasant when you went up to them but there was no table service or anybody coming around to see if we needed anything. But that's a small negative for me.

Review 134:The bed was very comfortable. Check in staff were very pleasant.

Review 135:Really lovely hotel. Big comfortable bed in a good size room. Loved the location as it is so close to bunrattys tourist attractions. Very pleasant stay.
