Reviews for Marin Dream Hotel
Review 1:Poor wifi at room and the safe box is not fixed.
Review 2:Close to the Fortress and near the central pedestrian areas. Close to the Bus terminal to Knossos (No.2 Bus), and not far to pull your luggage and go to the square to take Bus No.1 to airport. Beautiful breakfast view and the variety of Greek foods.
Review 3:Double bed instead of two singles could be extra plus
Review 4:Very clean, room in excellent condition like new, view to the old port castle and sea. Breakfast with sea view!
Review 5:One lift and forever waiting which often was full - a bit frustrating.
Review 6:Loved this hotel. Great location and we had a veranda with a harbour view. Staff were very freindly and helpful.
Review 7:Pillow smelled like sweat. Staff were not as friendly as the rest of the hotels we stayed at in Greece.
Review 8:Location was great. Short walk from the main bus station and the ferry port.
Review 9:We did not have a bad experience, but felt that the range of breakfast on display was almost overwhelming. Perhaps to offer rather less but of better quality, for example, fresh fruit rather than tinned and a hot boiled egg rather than a cold one. And perhaps a welcome at breakfast would have helped.
Review 10:The proximity to the airport, an excellent view of the harbour whilst eating breakfast, the extremely friendly and efficient lady in reception, comfortable beds and an excellent car rental just down the road.
Review 11:Typical city hotel, roomsize just about ok.
Review 12:Really excellent breakfast, in top floor restaurant with great 180 degr view on harbour and fortress. Large balkony but no view.
Review 13:No complaints. I will definitely return. I have stayed a few times already.
Review 14:The location is excellent, a short walk from city centre, the Archaelogical Museum, the bus station and the harbour. The staff are incribly helpful and I had no problem arranging a late check out. Wonderful panoramic views to the harbour. Delicious breakfast even included option of Greek coffee.
Review 15:Ideal for people in transit being near the port and bus station. The ordered in advance set meal was very enjoyable. The view at breakfast over the harbour was stunning.
Review 16:The grouting in the shower and around the shower screen could do with a good scrub.
Review 17:I enjoyed the view of the port from my room. Thank you for the upgrade. Good location and a very good selection at breakfast.
Review 18:We had a beautiful balcony with. Great view of the harbour. The breakfast was fantastic. The hotel was fantastic position for travelling, close to the bus and the port.
Review 19:Bathroom was ordinary. We were only on the second floor and would not describe it as a 'marble' bathroom as described with our booking. Maybe better quality is available on a higher floor? Hardly a sea view from the 2nd floor either?! Almost outgrown by trees.
Review 20:Breakfast was excellent.location handy.
Review 21:Room was a bit small.
Review 22:Very helpful and friendly staff. Very close to bus station for excursions. Even provided a breakfast at4:30 before my early flight.
Review 23:Nothing really.Unfortunately room safe could not be used because previous occupant had left taking the key!!!As our stay was onl one night it was not a great problem.Certainly did not change our view of the hotel
Review 24:Great location. Delightful staff.Excellent room with first class bathroom.Very good buffet breakfast. Free parking
Review 25:Location , staff friendly, helpful and informative. Clean room with large balcony overlooking harbour and castle(502). Huge variety for included breakfast. Would stay again.
Review 26:The hotel had a very good location, just by the port and about 10 min walk to the old town. Hotel is nothing fancy, it is perfect for a layover or short stay.
Review 27:they offer the best for you. everything that I have had asked for I was granted. I recommend for everyone, the view from the window is breathtaking. the staff is the top.
Review 28:Air conditioning did not work properly, bathtub dirty and mold on tiles, old TV, old worn towels
Review 29:Location, nice views from balcony, breakfast included in room rate
Review 30:Very small room, very small lift and very small shower cubicle would be a problem for big people.Smelled of smoke in the room. Bed are two small single pushed together to attempt to make one double. Safe did not work.
Review 31:location is very good near to the port and bus stand. Restaurant has good views over the harbour, air condition works ok. Very helpful and polite staff.
Review 32:The view of the port is wonderful, but because it is very near to the port, it is very-very noisy all day and night. We can not sleep with open balcony door, and we do not like the air condition.
Review 33:Small shower & screen didn't work properly, when we arrived we found ants crawling in the shower recess.
Review 34:The location close to the harbour was lovely, many breakfast choices. Close to the bus station.
Review 35:The bed wasn't comfortable so much.
Review 36:Good location for those who has to take a fairy boat next day. Also the main shopping street is just 10min walking.
Review 37:The bed was very hard and the linen was smelly - similar to the smell of fabric when it hasn't been dried sufficiently.
Review 38:The hotel was close to the main part of Town and was close to the port to catch an early morning ferry. Only suitable for a very short transit stay.
Review 39:nothing.
Review 40:The room was very clean. The breakfast was at the highest floor and so nice. There were not bread and fruits but some sweets and fresh greek style food. I could see the sunrise from the port at the breakfast room. It was so beautiful. The wifi was very strong. I took around 10min on foot from the port.
Review 41:The "double bed" was rather short and narrow. Technology was malfunctioning often, e.g air conditioning and door knobs.
Review 42:Good location near the harbor. Nice view from the rooftop restaurant.
Review 43:The view from dinning room is amazing, breakfast is outstanding. The day time Clark is friendly and helpful , always with warm smile. Location is closed to every major points.
Review 44:Maybe fresh new sheet would be a good idea.
Review 45:Perfect location, in front of the seaside just 2min walk from the main street in the city centre. Breakfast on the roof, amazing view and good choice of food and beverages
Review 46:This is probably the most depressing hotel I've ever stayed at in my life. If you love a room and decor that looks straight out of 50s-era Eastern Block/Siberian labor camp, you'll love this hotel. Tiny bed. Just depressing.
Review 47:Nothing
Review 48:People were very helpful and friendly. The hotel is very nice and offers a nice view at the top floor for the breakfast. Our room had also a nice view on the harbor. It is nicely located (city center reachable in a few minutes by walk) with a covered parking place near by.
Review 49:Can't think of anything.
Review 50:Location was excellent.... Very close to port and bus terminal. City center was in the hotel area easy to walk to. Breakfast was outstanding plentiful to choose from many things on tables!!!!!
Review 51:The location was why we booked this hotel, easy access to the port (ferry to Santorini), bus station, archeological museum are all within a few minutes walking distance from the hotel. The reception people I worked with at the hotel and at booking.com were extremely helpful and creative problem solvers. I had accidentally booked the wrong night for our stay and everyone worked together to get the reservation changed without any penalties. Great customer service!
Review 52:Beds unfortunately very hard and a bit uncomfortable. We had the double bed with sea view room on 5th floor
Review 53:Breakfast was extremely nice and tasty! They opened up the top floor after renovation, so it was a very nice view :-)
Review 54:Bathroom in need of renovation! Ants crawling in shower when we arrived and sink not very stable. Water pools when having shower and water escapes from shower screen -making bath floor slippery.
Review 55:Close to the port and bus station. Breakfast choices were great and staff very polite and helpful.
Review 56:Rooftop restaurant closed without notice! Seaview balcony was tiny. Noroom to even unload rental car- very stressful.
Review 57:Nice staff, great breakfast except no view.
Review 58:The room had a characteristic smell, maybe because of the detergents used or the bathroom and needed fresh air. Wi-Fi connection problems.
Review 59:Location is excellent for connections with the port (walking distance), airport, and the main bus station is about 150 meters away. Easy walking distance to the main square and pedestrian streets. Hotel is what you would expect from a city hotel. Room looked clean, and the hotel kindly provided a corner room. Breakfast was ok. The girl from Rhodes that works at the reception in the morning was very friendly and informative.
Review 60:We have made the reservation for this hotel because of the view of the breakfast room. Because of a fire we couldn't use this location and the breakfast was at a location near by.
Review 61:The location a view on the harbor.
Review 62:Can't think of any negatives.
Review 63:This hotel is a great value for the money. It's a short walk from the port, has nice views of the harbor, and is in a very convenient location in general. The staff is very friendly. hospitable, and helpful. Our room was fairly basic, but clean and comfortable. Breakfast was great.
Review 64:Rooftop restaurant was closed!!! No place to park even for a moment to unload bags. Second visit had second floor room with only tiny platform. Small insects in bathroom.
Review 65:Fifth floor room had large balcony with fantastic view over harbor.
Review 66:The area of the hotel above us was under construction, so, as we attempted to relax in our room, the sound of drills and hammers intruded. We were not apprised of this fact in advance, nor was an accommodation in price offered. I do not feel this was ethical conduct.
Review 67:Location & view
Review 68:The showers are too small in the lower floor rooms and it is very cramped if you have more than one suitcase.
Review 69:Our first stay was great. We were upgraded to a top floor room with a balcony overlooking the harbour. Second stay we were on a lower floor in a very small room. Excellent breakfast and staff.
Review 70:We were a group of friends and booked this place as it was just a walk from the Heraklion port form where we had to catch the ferry next morning to Santorini. We just stayed overnight so really didn't get to use the facilities but Breakfast was lavish. It was a good choice based on rate and location.
Review 71:Rooftop bar was closed for renovations. Check before you book if it's been reopened if you are wanting to enjoy it
Review 72:Overall the hotel was fine, the staff were friendly and the rooms were clean. We had a large balcony.
Review 73:The location is good. 5 minutes' walk from the port (beautiful sunrise from the sea) and 2 minutes' from the bus station (convenient to visit Knossos). The staff was very friendly and helped us send the postcard because we were in a hurry catching the flight.
Review 74:Hardest bed I've ever slept in and I've travelled a lot. It was like sleeping on a rock. Wifi barely worked. Female staff member was very rude and unhelpful.
Review 75:Good location near the port and buses
Review 76:The roof top resturant was closed and breakfast served next door.
Review 77:The locality to bus station, ferries Town was great. Knossos and the Archeological were the best. Museum was outstanding.
Review 78:The friendliness and professional assistance of the hotel staff, in particular, Soulema. Cleanliness of the rooms. Location to transport, restaurants.
Review 79:2 people on sofa bed not a good idea. It would flip over with weight on one side. Staff did not explain upon arrival that we had to keep key card in slot so AC would work and also shower has a tricky mechanism for water to come out of shower head which we did not know.
Review 80:Excellent location and view if you book sea view. Walking distance to port, bus station, city center, restaurants etc. Very nice breakfast buffet.
Review 81:the staff was fairly indifferent. the rooms were cramped, humid, and not at all at the level of cleanliness one would expect from a 2-3 star hotel. mold in the bathroom shower, bird droppings on the patio, scuffs and stains on the walls and bedspread. incidentally, winter bedding was provided in the middle of summer. not a bad or disgusting hotel, but perhaps not the finest choice or value in a teeming city like heraklion.
Review 82:the location is good, and the property itself is in good shape. generous and tasty breakfast: while we were there, the rooftop breakfast room was closed, which was disappointing, but if open would probably add a nice point to the experience.
Review 83:There was some noise from the harbour (some music festival going on?) that went on past midnight, which might have bothered a light sleeper (I wasn't).
Review 84:Great location, beautiful view of the sea, and wonderful breakfast, with some Greek options included. The room was great value for price. Staff were pretty helpful.
Review 85:1. Great Room 2. Beautiful balcony with view 3. Helpful staff 4. Near Bus station for transfer to airport 5. Near Ferry port 6. Superb included breakfast 7. Near restaurants and town center
Review 86:Top floor restaurant closed being re-done. Lots of small problems with room. all that were reported were fixed quickly.
Review 87:Fabulous view room with great balcony. Staff very responsive.
Review 88:On the basis of previous reviews we expected more. The room and bathroom were quite small and there was not a view to the sea. The roof top restaurant was under renovation so the swimming pool could not be used either. The lift was small and did not function in a practical manner.
Review 89:The best part of the hotel was its location.
Review 90:Left before breakfast to get ferry - as such perhaps breakfast could have started earlier albeit it did open at 7.00am anyway
Review 91:Good location. Large shower. Modern refurbished rooms.
Review 92:The rooms are needing a bit of touch up .
Review 93:Very nice hotel close to the port and bus station if plan to travel somewhere else and want nice place with little cost. clean rooms but rather simple however you get everything you need in there . great breakfast served in the restaurant next door .
Review 94:The room was clean, quiet and the breakfast was lovely...with lots of traditional Greek food. We paid extra for a room with a port view and enjoyed the view from the patio chairs. Location is excellent with an easy walk to museums, the ferry port and town centre
Review 95:The breakfast room was being refurbished so had to go across the road to a place where it was being served. The coffee is still not great but plenty of juice, water, tea and milk available.
Review 96:Friendly greeting on arrival again. This was our second stay here, certainly not our last. Short taxi ride from airport, within walking distance of the port, bus station and city centre Comfortable, clean room with safe, mini bar, TV and air con.
Review 97:Beds either hard or sagging. We had a 4 bed room with hard twin beds and sagging extra double bed.
Review 98:Location excellent for ferry arrival and departure. Hotel offered a free breakfast with lots of variety but the quality was not that great.
Review 99:It was close to great restaurants and shops and right next to the port so very convenient. We stayed the night before our flight, it was clean, comfortable and what we were looking for.
Review 100:In fact it was pretty hard to find things we didn't like. Some lesspositive points:The terrace was not available during our stay and the breakfast area was a bit too dark without views. The coffee could be A LOT better. Although the shower was good with powerful stream, the curtain did not close properly and after the shower the floor was full of water.
Review 101:The staff is extremely friendly, helpful and always with a smile. Thestaff has good knowledge of Heraklion and they recommended good localplaces to go which were awesome ( Real Cretan taste and goodatmosphere). The hotel is located 2 minutes walking to the main bus station of Heraklion and from there you can get to other interesting places. 10 minutes ( even less) walking distance to the port and the fort. The room was spacious and comfortable with a balcony and very quiet and peaceful during day and night. the air conditioner worked properly, witch is important in Crete. Powerful stream and the consistent hot water in the shower was a big plus. There is a computer and a printer in the lobby that can be used free of charge. mini bar prices really affordable (a bottle of water cost us 80 cents). in the lobby you can find the small cretan cheese cookies and raki offered as a welcoming gesture free of charge all the time. In general we were really satisfied with our stay at the Marin Dream Hotel Heraklion.
Review 102:Fire evacuation early morning was shambolic and no one was directing guests or ensuring they left the building. Staff did arrange breakfast at neighbouring hotel which was pleasant.
Review 103:Good value for money and very handy for the bus station, harbour and town centre. Bed comfortable but shower room a bit damp smelling.
Review 104:There was a urine smell in the bathroom. Staff promptly cleaned it when we complained but that didn't eliminate it. Walls are a bit shabby and the place is in need of renovation.
Review 105:This is one of the closest hotels to the ferry and to the bus station. There are great views to the harbour from the restaurant on the top floor where a lovely breakfast is served.
Review 106:none
Review 107:Convenient, view of the fort and harbor, quiet street but short walk to the main street and sights. Mid day cafe hand for snacks or lunch if arriving late.
Review 108:The breakfast was good and the staff friendly. Great location close to thw port and the bus station, as well as the centre of town which is all within walking distance.
Review 109:Room very cluttered & very close to public steps, just below balcony
Review 110:5 minute walk from bus station which was excellent as journeying onward to South of island. Great variety at breakfast & beautiful views from restaurant
Review 111:First 3 days of our wedding trip to crete were perfect. Fifth floor with big balcony and seaview. We arrived late and we asked for champagne & mezedakia. Everything was in our room. We thank the hotel for the superservice they gave us.
Review 112:The bus station was close by for the airport, Knossos and further afield. It was only a short walk to the Archeology Museum, not to be missed. We liked the rooftop restaurant view.
Review 113:Nothing.
Review 114:Nice friendly, helpful staff. Good size room and comfy bed. View of harbour. Good array of breakfast food, mainly traditional. Bus station just across the road. It is also perfect for anyone traveling on there own. I will be using it again as stop over hotel if I have a late landing or early flight. Airport about 5kl away. (About 12.euro taxi to hotel). Or for a ferry crossing, the ferry port is also just across the road. You can buy your ferry tickets from the bus station where there is a ticket office and also car hire and travel companies. I would highly recommend this Hotel.
Review 115:I wouldn't mind paying a little less for this. I didn't think it was worth the price.
Review 116:Central location with close proximity to port and central walkway. Great view from the 7th floor, however, they did maximize on the view by making itty bitty rooms. Can you blame them? Not really but it did feel small.
Review 117:Not really an issue, but for a family room, would have preferred two inter-connecting rooms, rather than us all in one room. The sofa bed provided was too small for two adults - would have preferred a double and two singles or two doubles.
Review 118:The hotel is a very high standard - modern fittings, very clean, excellent choice for breakfast and when we couldn't receive the Wi-Fi signal in our room, the staff provided our own modem! Lovely restaurant with great views of the harbour. Car Parking is available in a multi-storey within walking distance and reasonably priced.
Review 119:I had broken sleep partly due to the bedroom not being dark enough. The key card holder lit up like a night light. There were one or two guests who came back drunken & late, I could hear them. I could also hear a lot of activity at breakfast time. My husband slept through it all!
Review 120:Location - as we drive from heraklion airport late at night & needed somewhere that was easy to get to. Next day we wanted to do a bit of sight seeing, which was easy to walk from hotel. Breakfast was very good too. As we're the views from bedroom & restaurant, looking onto fortress & sea.
Review 123:- in case you expected it, there is no kettle in the room - the wifi was barely working
Review 124:- all the staff were very helpful and friendly - the location is excellent, you can get everywhere on foot - the breakfast room has a good view and the breakfast has a good range of food
Review 125:location was good for the views but a bit of a walk from the main eateries and centre - if only slightly. parking was a little distance and 5euro a half day stay. that would be quite pricey if staying a number of nights.
Review 126:friendly staff looked after us with a free upgrade to the top floor sea views - balcony was enormous and room big enough for the 3 of us. breakfast was reasonable but would be a bit cramped in peak season!
Review 127:internet connectivity was flacky was trying to upload an important file and it kept timing out. i went to the reception and even there i had problems. hotel is not serious about business travellers breakfast was indifferent
Review 128:convenient location
Review 129:Wifi is poor, not always accessible.
Review 130:Very good location, close to the port, bus station and everywhere. Friendly staff. Good breakfast considering the price. Room is small but with balcony and view. In general good money value.
Review 131:Small double bed, but a small fault in an otherwise faultless experience.
Review 132:Incredibly friendly and helpful staff, and they recommended a fantastic restaurant for dinner. Helpful with directions and providing a map, great we could leave luggage whilst visiting KNOSSOS and use the computer in the lobby to confirm flights. We enjoyed the complimentary local liqueur too! The view at breakfast was stunning.
