Reviews for Maddens Bridge Bar, Restaurant & Guesthouse

Review 1:Booked a twin room as was travelling with my brother to surprise other family members staying in a nearby hotel. We were put in a double room and when we went to query we were clearly an inconvenience. The bar man told us it was nothing to do with maddens and was a bookings.com error. We were stuck with this room and not even an apology, just a brush off.Room was ugly and dated. No working sockets so we couldn't charge phones or blow dry hair. Without doubt the worst place I've ever seen and could not recommend to anyone. Avoid at all cost. €70 was pure robbery for this excuse for a B&B (without the breakfast which would have cost an extra €10 each)

Review 2:Central location but that was the only good point

Review 3:No bad comments what so ever! :)

Review 4:View was amazing! Room was spotless with great size and storage space as well as a fantastic sea view! Was so warm and cosey, extremely welcoming and conplimentary tea and coffee was very much appreciated! Seats situated beside window made for excellent to relax with my partner and have a chat and a cup of tea! Tv was fantastic also!

Review 5:This stay was worst experience of my life!! I have stayed in caravans which have more b&b standards!! There was a rusty smell in the room which made us sick!! The springs where coming through the bed!! The bed clothes where dirty and we mentioned it to the staff they said they could do nothing!! This was after we paid an they wouldnt give us our money back!! We went an found a different B&B meaning we were outt double the money!! Take my advice never stay here!! I wouldnt advise an animal to stay in this place!!

Review 6:The website indicates that coffee & tea making facilities are in the room, but they were not. It was sometimes awkward to go downstairs to the bar in order to access wi-fi.

Review 7:The room was clean.

Review 8:The only thing this place has going for it in terms of the business is the restaurant/bar attached to it. The food is top notch. The location is fluke. The accommodation....DIRE! I've stayed in many places in the town and this is hands down the worst. Terrible nights sleep... stench, noise, temperature and condition leave an awful lot to be improved before I'd consider returning. Made the surf hostels look 5*.

Review 9:Loved the aroma of sewerage from the moment we stepped foot inside... and the smell of raw eggs from the water supply.mmmmm. Loved the noise from next doors extractor fan that had a rough bearing rattling ALL night. Loved hearing every guest come back from a night out and every word they said as they passed through the hall way on their room. Loved the inconsistent paintwork on the walls, the lack of heating and the old battered furniture. NNNNNNNNAT! AVOID AVOID AVOID!

Review 10:it was horrendous, outdated decor, shower barely worked, tv didn't work 1 plug in room, freezing cold at night as they turned the heating off

Review 11:Nothing

Review 12:Young fella behind the bar was very helpful and made us feel very welcome. Great place for laying your head for the night. Really clean. Highly recommended for a stop over!

Review 13:I would not advise anybody to stay hear, it is very basic, room was smelly as was the bathroom and we were kept awake all night by people coming in drunk and drinking in hall and going from room to room and we paid £73 with no Breakfast !!!!

Review 14:looking out window to a downstairs room with dead blue bottle flies laying on windowsill and lots of dead flies in cobwebs. Hallway and room had a smell of sewers and had to leave window open. Kettle for tea making was filthy the inside of it was BLACK.

Review 15:Bedding was clean, towels clean.

Review 16:some noise at night - loud hum ! but it is a town centre hotel, so could probably not expect complete silence.

Review 17:excellent breakfast. convenient location to break up a long journey.

Review 18:They stop serving food at 7 during the week. (At least 10 groups of people came in asking for food.??) breakfast is at 9 so no good if you are working.

Review 19:Above a bar. Room comfey but basic.

Review 20:The bedroom was disgusting, like a doss house. The en suite was revolting, smelly. We couldn't even use the lavatory because of the smell.

Review 21:The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Review 22:appears to problems with water system. shower was very smelly and the stairs and entrance also had a bad odour. not a pub to be lively in as we were told off for being loud. had two drinks there and spent no more money there

Review 23:Good location for bundoran. breakfast was excellent.

Review 24:The smell walking up the stairs was quite bad and the way up to the rooms was a bit dated. Our room was very small but we didn't mind too much but the bathroom was too small you couldn't swing a cat in it. The manager I'm guessing? Wasn't the friendliest man and didn't feel welcomed when we arrived, and we didn't feel like we wanted to drink downstairs because the staff weren't friendly and as working in the hotel business myself I was let down by that, and expected more, they need to work on that defenetly!

Review 25:We stayed in the balcony suite , was very nice the design of the room, place was warm and well heated and very very clean. The food at the place was very nice huge portions and very nice. Close to everything and everything was a walking distance.

Review 26:Dirty towels Bar staff rude and unhelpful (one was lovely) but rest were not. Door on bathroom not close Noisy as overlook car park and main road.

Review 27:Convenience Price reasonable

Review 28:the wifi was non existant. we even got holyrood wifi code and it worked better than maddens. and it was not great.

Review 29:the staff friendly. the rooms fine. location great for all events. enjoyed our stay but you need to revamp your wi-fi connection

Review 30:The room which we stayed in was not clean at all was horrendous. I have never in my life stayed anywhere so vile there was a horrible smell which would not go away no matter what I sprayed. I did not get one wink of sleep staying at this b&b and I can sleep anywhere. Will never be back.

Review 31:The location was great as was wishing walking distance to everything in bundoran.

Review 32:No wheat free food available.

Review 33:The bedroom was lovely very clean and the bed was very comfortable. Had the best night's sleep ever. There was a kettle, iron, ironing board hairdryer in room. Car park grt also.

Review 34:the staff were very friendly and hard working.there is always a buzz about the place.the food was fantastic as was the portion size.will definetly be making a return visit

Review 35:Very comfortable beds! Small double room but everything was there and an effort made with nice bedspread and runner and accessories in bathroom. Can't fault it for the price we paid.

Review 36:Room very basic and expensive for an adult and a nine year old. No breakfast unless paid extra. Already paid extra vat on the price quoted on booking.com

Review 37:Friendly atmosphere

Review 38:Manager was rude and tried charging more for no reason.Beds were rock hard.Room and halls smelt of sewers. There was mice in the room and we ended up leaving a night earlier at own cost.Kettle in room was dark brown inside with brown water.Beds had slots breaking.Awful experience

Review 39:Downside to having a room overlooking seafront was the noise from partygoers and revellers well into the night. I would take ear plugs if I stayed again!

Review 40:I was given a second floor bedroom, overlooking the seafront. Tea and coffee making facilities were provided, and hairdryer and an iron were available. Cooked breakfast was plentiful and delicious, and the staff I met were very pleasant and helpful.

Review 41:Food and welcome plus all round ambience of establishment that knows how to do hospitality well. Very well known pub, great value, food excellent - we dined in restuarant for evening. Breakfast very good.

Review 42:Booked 2 single rooms almost a year in advance. On arrival was told only a twin room was available at the same cost as 2 singles! The reason given was Booking.Com was late in sending through the booking. Not acceptable! Plus, cleanliness wasn't great!

Review 43:Food was good.

Review 44:Had no comfort Inot bed , rooms very calm my almost like cudn breath in them, bathroom the same, night time my child could not sleep because of all the banging an noise coming from above us, and downstairs, overall experience paid 70 euro for a night of torture, will not be returning,

Review 45:no complaints though I'd say if it was busy it would be hard to sleep with the noise in the hallway of ppl walking bye and doors closing

Review 46:Great location in the town waking distance to everything Didn't have time for a pint but bar had nice feeling about it

Review 47:The staff were not very accommodating, did not show us up stairs and did not tell us anything about breakfast service etc. The shower took at least 10 minutes to heat up and the room was cold. Also a unrecognized smell from bathroom. Not good value for money in my opinion.

Review 48:The location was very good.

Review 49:The room view was awful! The noice in the morning from people in the back courtyard and the noice from the fans or machines was very bad and the smell wasn't any better from the bottle bins! Also we paid for a sea view but didn't get it!

Review 50:Room and bathroom was clean and looked good

Review 51:Car park a bit small and can be awkward to get in and out of.Maybe it was an oversight but our room had no lace curtain on window.

Review 52:Ideal position in town. We had the breakfast and it was great with plenty on plate.Bar staff friendly and helpful.

Review 53:Small narrow bathroom had to leave door open to shave, trickery getting out of shower, no room to manoeuvre.

Review 54:Great food helpful and friendly staff, loved entertainment at weekends

Review 55:VERY GOOD COMFORTABLE ACCOMODATION IN EXCELLENT LOCATION. GOOD FOOD , FRIENDLY EFFECIENT STAFF AND VERY REASONABLY PRICED. RESTAURANT AND BAR WITH PLENTY OF LOCAL CHARACTER AND CHARM .

Review 56:Some noise at night, but it was St Patricks Eve/Day and a lot of young people staying.

Review 57:Lovely spot,beautiful room,lovely staff,food was FIRST CLASS.

Review 58:shower wasn't working properly, noise from the yard woke us. stain on sheet was unfortunately off putting. only one set of plug sockets

Review 59:location was great just across from the sea . staff friendly and very attentive.

Review 60:On checking in I was told they had only a booking for one person instead of a couple, so the girl had to get the manager to sort it, then I was being over charged for the room. Price I booked was €70, I was now being charged for 2 single people, when I challenged this, she told me that booking.com charged more then they did. I had to explain that they infact were charging more.Thankfully I had a copy of my booking e-mail on my phone with price and number of people. She then had to get the manager AGAIN to sort it out. Wouldn't stay here again.

Review 61:Food was good

Review 62:the unfriendly reception we received from the bar man when we arrived late that evening and there was some aggressive punters well on drinking in the bar.

Review 63:the location of the accommodation was very good

Review 64:Comfortable bed, warm, noiseless room even on a busy Saturday night in the bar. Nice restaurant for dinner. Lovely breakfast cooked to order. Great staff

Review 65:Asked for breakfast at 9 am, only to discover we were the only people in the building, all was locked up. Left without breakfast, which was refunded.

Review 66:Quality of bar meal was excellent

Review 67:Wifi was great in the bar, but couldn't get it in my room. But it's rural Ireland, the view was great, the people very friendly and the surroundings fantastic. Was able to do my email and other business in the bar and at the conference I was attending so it was ok.

Review 68:Breakfast choice was fantastic, and all on offer that I tried was delicious. Nice atmosphere in the bar in the evening, friendly staff and locals, great music.

Review 69:Tiny wee bathroom. Thought it was a bit dear at €45 pps for 1 nights B&B. Especially when there are great offers on in the local hotels

Review 70:Lovely food served in the bar at very reasonable prices. Great location and very quiet. No noise at all from adjoining rooms or corridor or car park or the road. Comfy bed. Slept like a log and had a lovely breakfast, cooked to order and very tasty. Would stay again.

Review 71:LOL!!!only discovered the tea and coffee facility as we left the room!!!

Review 72:The bar ambience was warm and inviting, lots of laughter and smiles. The service was exeptional, and nothing was too much trouble.we really were taken care of and encouraged to feel a part of the intimacy.Breakfast at 7.30 a.m. Delivered by the owner who had made a special effort to cater for us,despite the inclement weather will go down as a singular act of kindness, taken to another level!!!

Review 73:That u had to walk outside in morning to go into te bar via another door for breakfast

Review 74:Location was excellent and we had a great room 27!! Beautiful sea view- except for the heating not workin had to use an electric heater.. But never the less it did not spoil our stay

Review 75:Room was a bit dated and did have a stake smoke smell which was really off putting. The floor could have done with being hoovered and there was a used tissue right beside one of the beds. Overall it was clean and pleasant enough but a wee bit more attention to detail would be better. Would also be better if people weren't allowed to smoke in the rooms, the smell was reLly quite strong.

Review 76:Breakfast was amazing, staff were all lovely and the room was large. Good central location and easy to find.

Review 77:I didn't like the guys attitude..he hardly said hello..he demanded£165 euro off us there an then..before he even gave us a key to theroom..when my husband gave him £140 sterling(after all they advertise insterling) he said it wasn't enough an preferred Euros..AnymoreI'll stay in The Holyrood..£179..try booking you...an see how muchit is at the end..it was advertised £132 reserved...but they charged£165..I stayed in Barcelona an other places an you settle when you leavean not before it.

Review 78:The girl we saw every morning..polite..lovely...food beautiful..butsorry about the guys manners...he had none.

Review 79:The plumbing in the ensuite was a bit troublesome - flushing the toiletwas a bit like rebooting a Microsoft system - need three fingers, twohands, stand on one foot etc), but we coped. It's not a youngbuilding, so it had to be expected.

Review 80:The breakfast; a week of the Irish breakfast would probably cause aheart attack. But it was very good.Walk across the road onto the Atlantic coast. Beautiful, if a bit chilly for Aussie blood. Good jumping off point to many points of interest: our particular target was the Flaidh (Music festical) at Sligo.

Review 81:A lift in the b&b would have been beneficial for children in prams.

Review 82:Room was spacious, comfortable bed, clean bed linen & towels daily. Breakfast was fantastic - fresh produce & plenty to choose from. Restaurant offered fantastic food at reasonable prices. Staff were extremely friendly & hospitable!!

Review 83:Great location, friendly welcoming staff who made every effort to make us welcome and comfortable especially at the fantastic breakfast. We went back to the bar each evening to eat and drink after our days out and there was a very warming and enjoyable atmosphere, so much so that we met people there that we're staying elsewhere but really enjoyed the "craic" in Maddens bridge bar rather than their own accommodation. Very pleasing place and would return.

Review 84:Bedroom decor, brown and old-fashioned. Bed very soft and bouncy, like being at sea on a raft.

Review 85:Food, excellent. Beers/ales, good wide range. Very genuine pub decor and environment. Staff welcoming and helpful.

Review 86:The bar men were not too friendly, the deco in the bar was dull and outdated , could do with some new lighting ,and some reorganisation in the bar area.

Review 87:I liked the location

Review 88:The bed was slightly uncomfortable and the toilet in our room didnt flush properly other than that we had a very plesent stay.

Review 89:Food was fantastic both evening meal in the bar and the breakfast was fab, great selection on the menus. Room was spotless, and was great value for money

Review 90:we were put to a room like something a workman would rent looking out onto a back yard full of bins and beer barrels we couldnt open window due to wasps and odours from cooking really disappointed as i use booking .com all the time the room was really dark and dingy i can give you room number if you want to check it out honestly we spent as little time as we could in there very depressing

Review 91:Noise from boiler, Room 23 is located adjacent or possibly overhead, nex time ? We would like balcony or, We did request Quiet room, but young man, who was very helpful, said this ' only room. nex morning ' we wer told there was ; empty room.

Review 92:room very modern staff friendly, had eaten bar many times, my brother a local customer.
