Reviews for Holyrood Hotel - Leisure Centre & Escape Spa
Review 1:The steam room was not working - no heat in the room at night time - overall the room was very dirty and wasn't worth the money- food in the bar was poor
Review 2:The room was cold and mouldy smell....the waiting area for the breakfast was bad waiting ages to be seated
Review 3:The bar food was lovely and enjoyable....the staff was friendly good customer service. ..
Review 4:Noise of kids in corridor knocking on doors and running on a rampage to all hours, parents fault but would have expected hotel staff to intervene. Maybe I should have phoned reception and made them aware of problem.
Review 5:Location, facilities and nice and warm considering it was wintertime
Review 6:At 10pm loud music(piano) from bar. Lots of kids running at the hotel, very noisy, nobody cares. Did not sleep well.
Review 7:free swimming pool, good breakfast
Review 8:Rooms poor first room 3 red floor full of dampness and corridor smelt of smoke asked for a different room got one on floor one which was small almost attic type bed small and hard although room very warm which was great bathroom clean but very dated and needs revamped like the bedroom
Review 9:Location staff and food excellent
Review 10:it would have been nice if to have sat in the lounge downstairs when we returned to the hotel after midnight - for a debrief over a couple of drinks but understandably our visit was low-season (and mid-week) and the lounge staff had gone home so we bought a couple of bottles of wine and adjourned to our adjacent rooms. No big deal! We were very pleased.
Review 11:We were a family group of 4 adults and out experience was excellent.
Review 12:the breakfast and evening meal we had were very good the room was nice the decor could have been a bit better i would recommend this hotel to others and will stay again
Review 13:The cistern in toilet took a long time to fill up between flushes
Review 14:Great location, great spacious bedroom, we were three adult women and all three beds were comfortable. In some hotels a camp bed will be pushed into the room, leaving shortage of space, plus lack of comfort
Review 15:Thr room I had was a bit tired looking and small but then it was for one person only.
Review 16:I Liked the location and the hotel was welcoming and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Bar food also very good. The breakfast was delicious.
Review 17:I had a v good experience of staying in the hotel however, I would have liked a bar food menu to be available in the evenings - when I was there it was the set menu which was fairly limited.
Review 18:Friendly staff, clean room, I had a problem with the lighting and it was rectified immediately. I would stay there again, for work purposes and I would bring my family during school holidays as the hotel seems very child friendly and has a nice pool
Review 19:The smell of furniture polish was overwhelming in the reception area. Our room was very dated, not clean, visible dust about 3 inches thick behind lockers, carpets filthy and not hoovered, bathroom floor dirty which made our stay very uncomfortable. The water was cold in the shower, asked for it to be looked into in the morning but had to remind them again in the evening. It was a little warmer after a young chap came to check it out.
Review 20:The staff were lovely as were the pool &sauna. The steam room ddn't seem to be working :9
Review 21:Room a bit shabby holes in walls and around sockets needed painting!
Review 22:Very comfy bed and delicious breakfast room could have done with a freshen up/paint!
Review 23:the noise on sat . night from music below was unbearable didnt stop untin 3 am ishould have been warned about it and moved to another room .breakfast was of poor quality and poor value for money ..would never stay on a sat night again .
Review 24:location was good and weather a bonus .
Review 25:We attended with 2 older children 11 &14 and there really wasn't anything for them to do in the hotel, the kids club was more for younger ages,so they did get very bored, only they met some other children around their age the stay wouldn't have been suitable for teens. Also no children allowed in hotel bar after 8pm due to it also being a public bar.
Review 26:I enjoyed the break with my partner, the staff in the hotel bar where lovely. Breakfast was good.
Review 27:To much noises all night,we couldn't sleep till1.30am in the morning, room really badly smell ,price to dear for what you get.Water on the pool cold x
Review 28:The only thing i liked was the beaty and spa corner?
Review 29:I did not like the fact we only booked 2 days, should have booked longer!!!
Review 30:Lovely food in the bar restaurant, very comfortable accommodation and central to everything. The swimming pool was a must for the kids which left us to use sauna, jacuzzi and spa. Kids club on as well so had time to relax on our own while kids were away for Halloween activities.
Review 31:Could do with some updating, particularly en suite bathrooms.
Review 32:Comfortable hotel in a great location. Helpful and friendly reception staff. Great entertainment.
Review 33:The room was very small, and poorly lit. ensuite very confined and difficult to get into the shower.Phone socket was hanging form the wall.I would recommend two toasting stations for breakfast as there were long queues there and breakfast was cold by the time I got my toast.Variety of fruit was very limited.Ladies dressing rooms at the pool should have locks for security purposes and there was no safe in the bedroom either.
Review 34:The location of the hotel was perfect and the staff extremely welcoming and helpful.
Review 35:Restaurant only offer set menu which was meal for 2 and glass of wine did not want a large meal no other options disappointing
Review 36:Staff helpful asked for sea view
Review 37:Well did not want to say but the young gentleman in the bar needs to be trained in customer serve.never made eye contact.never put change in hand never spoke not a smile and walked away as soon as he served us.and that was every time we asked for drinks..
Review 38:From the minute u walk through the doors of hotel it just feels so freindly.the receptionist has to be the nicest lady I have ever talked to.she was so warm and could not do enough putty I never got her name.room was sea view we loved it.
Review 39:My father stayed in a room with stale smoke which I didnt realise til he decided to tell me half way back to Dublin. We understood this was a no smoking hotel!
Review 40:very obliging staff
Review 41:The rooms weren't up to standards.there was damp on the walls and the bathroom was disscusting.the breakfast was poor and the waiting time for it was shocking.on the Sunday we went to use the jacuzzi and the smell of the water was horendous.safe to say we won't be back .
Review 42:Very little
Review 43:requested a quite room, place next to lift!!!!!, moved to room -only one small window too open, but next day moved again (third time move into a room!!) to a sea view three windows room excellent for my breathing.
Review 44:staff, food, location pool.
Review 45:The close proximity to a rowdy bar and the poor facilities within the town.
Review 46:Good food, clean rooms and being welcomed by the owner, fantastic hot stone massage
Review 47:Going home.
Review 48:Privacy, rear car park and access to rooms, great breakfast, helpful staff, excellent reception and bar, entertainment very good, excellent location. Great value for an Hotel.
Review 49:The decor is very outdated, not maintained very well. No do not disturb sign to hang on the door and the cleaning staff come around very early and knock and let themselves in even though we were sleeping and they only emptied the bin when they did come in. We travelled with a young family so didn't expect a completely quiet hotel but this was like a school playground in the lobby and hall ways
Review 50:Location is great.
Review 51:Info given about 2 course dinner on Fri night was incorrect. Broken window latch in our room. Not enough parking spaces. My car was blocked in on Saturday night.
Review 52:Helpful reception staff. Leisure and spa facilities were good.
Review 53:Everywhere was well presented. Bathrooms in rooms over due a upgraded. Leaking taps & tiles coming off walls.
Review 54:Staff all around were very nice. Food was good. Free use of swimming pool, sauna, & jacuzzi was great
Review 55:That we had two pushchairs and two young children and had to left them up and down stairs on our level where our room was it was ridiculous how we where put there when they new we had two young babies
Review 56:We went for the carvery dinner and it was terrible. The food had obviously been sitting for hours. We couldn't eat it and ended up going to another restaurant.
Review 57:This hotel is really basic
Review 58:- Kitchen smell (fries oil) in the room, in the corridors - Noise in the corridors during the night - Poor quality of the swimming pool water - Instead of one room for four people (like this one illustrated in the picture) we preferred two rooms, but we were doubly unfortunate: both rooms were not at all at the quality level that we could imagine and we paid much more!
Review 59:Breakfast was good
Review 60:On arrival the reception was full of children, thought they were waiting for a coach Having booked this hotel week's in advance, we were given a room that was badly in need of refurbishing, and next to the lift shaft, where the children play on until 12 midnight. the health and safety in that Hotel in an accident waiting to happen. I complained about the noise from the lift shaft, and the noise at 12.30 am from the children still playing in reception. We were given another room, better that the first, but no where near that looked like the one on your web site, needless to say I would not stop there again. I pity the staff who have to put up with such bad behaviour, and can't do anything about it. We have stayed in family Hotels before, but never have we had to put up with children playing on a lift until ??? what time in the morning.
Review 61:Not much
Review 62:On returning to the hotel after having a day out at around 1 am the hotel reception was full of adults drinking and young children running around, glasses and empty food containers were left laying on the floor. Making are way to the elevator was a bit of a task and it isint far from the main entrance! After getting to the elevator it was out of order we then decided to use the stairs were we were met by a group of children running up and down, I wouldn't mind but considering the time I would not of expected that. Drink should not be able to be consumed in the reception area it makes you feel a little uncomfortable. Drink should only be consumed in the bar area and I think the hotel should look into this matter.
Review 63:The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was a great start to the day
Review 64:Bedrooms could do with some maintenance. Our shower screen was badly cracked, rooms are quite cool and tv reception very poor with only 4 channels available despite what they say. The bar only had a handful of people in it and our 6 year old was sitting quietly playing on his ipad but we were thrown out of the bar at 9.00 as children were not allowed there after 9.00 but the reception area was packed and there was nowhere to sit with children so we had to go back to our room.
Review 65:Location is excellent right in the centre of Bundoran. The kids club too is excellent and they have trips to the cinema, bowling etc.
Review 66:A bit more attention to hoovering and dusting in the room would have been perfect.
Review 67:As we like to do some walking, we found the cliff walks excellent. Scenery both north and south of Bundoran excellent. Enjoyed visits to Belleek Pottery and Lissadill House.
Review 68:We had a room in front if the hotel and it was very noisy at night. We asked to be moved. Some of the staff were not very friendly.
Review 69:Leisure centre was very good. So was the breakfast and the room was very clean and comfortable.
Review 70:The room, bed was hard, dust all over the place, room was very out dated , and hard to sleep, when a night club down stairs , staff were not the best of help , over priced seen nicer hostels than this place
Review 71:The pool area that's bout it really
Review 72:Room was cramped, very warm, looked tired and dated. Hotel could do with a revamp in most areas. Lots of noisy footfall from the room overhead too, didn't make for a restful night's sleep.
Review 73:Staff were lovely and very helpful.
Review 74:Noise in bedroom when music at wedding need function room sound proofed very difficult to sleep no sleep till at least 3 am When eating meal at dinner staff kept removing plates . Cutlery . While we were still eating and leaning over us to remove items . Very rushed service .
Review 75:Kids club . Food . Comfort
Review 76:Bar staff really unsociable barman actually managed to serve us without even speaking and that was after standing far too long waiting and the bar was nearly empty god help customers if it was busy
Review 77:Location good most staff pleasant
Review 78:Great all round hotel food excellent staff really helpful rooms comfortable my room was newly decorated nicely done kids club great for young children go kids staff very friendly .
Review 79:The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The breakfast and dinner were lovely and served very quickly again by great staff. The children enjoyed the go kids club and the swimming pool.
Review 80:Our room had a constant smoky smell to it, and was next to 3-flight stairwell which kids used as a plaything, with the noise reverberating through our room. Great alarm clock! The decor of the hotel is dated and could be refurbished.
Review 81:The location of the hotel is a great in terms of the beach and exploring Donegal as a whole.
Review 82:dirty old carpet and couch in the room. staff very kind and helpful but breakfast not enough staff to clean and organise tables. had to wait 20 min on the stairs to get inside the dining room .only pancakes and fruits from can and irish or continental breakfast.typical familiy hotel.had to walk 10 min and to climb a lot of stairs to the 4th floor,no elivator to th room.
Review 83:The room we were given was very far away from everything and didn't have a lift to me it was like an attic room and we had to climb three flights of stairs
Review 84:Staff were very friendly food was excellent and everything was spotless. Forgot to mention loo seat was broken and just left loose on top of toilet bowl!!
Review 85:room not ready at 3.00 as in email.was 3.30. behind lockers the skirting board was unclean and sweet/bar papers at corner. 2ad and 2 children i 1boy one girl age 11 and 12 so would not have expected to get 2 double beds.
Review 86:Room comfortable and beds very comfortable
Review 87:Poor house keeping (tea not topped up in room). Didnt know it was so family oriented getting past kids to get use the lift and get through the foyer at night was a nightmare.
Review 88:Good food although a bit more could be added to the breakfast to make it a bit more continental.
Review 89:small bedroom but very clean if room was a bit bigger it would hv been perfect
Review 90:great entertainment for children very family oreintated hotel very friendly
Review 91:just that one of the staff was quite nasty to my oldest grandchild and pulled him from the train,he was only 11 but a bit tall for his age,he was quite embarrassed,as he is a quiet boy.
Review 92:I liked everything except the queue for breakfast, but it really was no big deal.i had 4 grandchildren with me and the entertainment for them was brilliant.i have been back several times.
Review 93:Very rough around the edges. Too many children around for a peaceful time. Weren't aware that this would bethe case when we booked. Not really suitable for couples.
Review 94:Hotel was within easy walking distance of everything in town.
Review 95:My room was very small and dark with a very small shower, also pillows very flat and needed replacememt, bedside light not working and socket hanging from the wall with wires exposed, the window sill was very dusty. No towels in the bathroom but was rectified immediately by staff. Room in general in need of maintenance.
Review 96:Friendly and welcoming staff creating a nice relaxed atmosphere. Bar food was very tasty and had home cooked feel to it and great value for money. Breakfast was also very good and lovely staff in the restaurant.
Review 97:The hotel could do with little more attention to detail e.g. no cups in bedroom bathroom over mirror light no working curtain tie back broken
Review 98:Really enjoyable experience
Review 99:Very relaxing ,family oriented , kids club well organised wth good activities swimming pool good to .health spa .Food lovely also friendly helpful staff.Good location
Review 100:What happened to me and my friends was entirely avoidable if the proprietor had had the decency to warn me of the activities in her hotel at the time of my booking - it was clear we were travellers on bicycles and I requested a nice quiet room. Instead she put me in a room immediately above a night club which kicked off at 1 am and didn't finish until 5 am. I was moved to another room and the goings on there were scandalous. The other guests were roaming around drunk and drugged up on cannabis. There were fights going on and foul and profane language was constantly being shouted. Damage was being done to the hotel. I was afraid for my safety if I left the room! The night porters could do nothing - they were afraid. I asked them to call the police several times but they took no action for fear of landing their employer in trouble. Unbelievably the proprietor was not on duty on a night when all these things were going on in her hotel that were entirely foreseeable. Instead she left her poorly paid night porters take the flack – both very decent men who were genuinely sorry they couldn’t do anything despite their remonstrations with the rowdy louts using the hotel. They couldn’t believe I hadn’t been warned of the activities going on at the hotel that night. Would you stay in a hotel like this for love or money?
Review 101:Nowt
Review 102:The fact that I was goin to be put into a double room even thou I ordered a twin room.room wasn't even ready when we arrived, had to wait til 4.30 pm.when I got into my room it was a double bed with a pull out sofa bed made up.when my mother had closed the bathroom door within minutes we could smell something that I would describe as like sewage,it was awful.so bathroom window had to stay open all night..room 144
Review 103:Location of hotel was perfect as my daughter was in the Irish dancing feis which was held in the hotel.breakfast was beautiful, staff friendly
Review 104:Weather was poor but can't put that down to hotel it is Ireland
Review 105:Lovely hotel ,pleasant staff, great entertainment with Paddy in eveningso really enjoyed our stayW
Review 106:Stayed in a room at the far end of the hotel. No lift access to the room. A lot of bags and chids pram being carried up stairs. Room even though had plenty of space and was clean was just too expensive. Service in the bar/bistro is very slow and the staff are not the most pleasant I have ever seen. Staff seen to spend more time having the craic with each other than working. Won't be staying I this hotel again.
Review 107:Food good. Room was clean and lots of space for 2 adults and 2 children. Hotel is in a good location in the centre of town. Probably not the best though if your kids don't like street noise. Bundoran is a nice place to visit for 1/2 nights. Sligo and Dunegal are only half an hour away. Lovely scenery and beaches.
Review 108:Beds were hard and receptionist was not pleasant and never smiled once.
Review 109:The rooms are very nice and clean. Very easy to find the place and parking was great.
Review 110:The spa was awful, felt very dirty, gym was old fashioned and dangerous, cleanliness of the hotel
Review 111:The bed was quite comfortable and the breakfast wasnt bad
Review 112:No complaints
Review 113:All our requests were met with a smile and nothing was a problem . nice to find a hotel that provides smoking rooms for those of us that are banished from most premises thank you Hollywood hotel
Review 114:First thing was our room , when we srrived at the hotel we were given our room, and when we went to room it was small over looking nothing (the back/side of hotel ) you could smell the dust in the room. Then we went for something to eat so we choose the carvery in the bar, we waited for ages for someone to come to us and we ordered two meals and two drinks. When we got the meal the plates was freezing which automatically cooled the meal which wasn't warm to start with but as a cook my partner doesn't like me complain especially after me giving off about the room, and I had even emailed the hotel on booking it to ask them for a nice room as this was a we treat for my partners birthday. Now don't get me wrong it was great to get away but the advertising on the web site does not match the real hotel. Sorry wish I had went somewhere else instead
Review 115:The only thing I could say was the staff was friendly enough but wish I had booked somewhere else
Review 116:I specifically asked for ground floor bedroom as I had two elderly women with me and I got the top of the house room 402 there was no lift up our room and the countless stairs and doors we had to encounter was something else.when I booked it I was told yes ground floor, when I complained at reception I was told tough luck. Was not impressed and will not be stating there again.
Review 117:The breal fast was the best part of the stay
Review 118:A bit of a walk to get to our room but this is an old hotel.
Review 119:The comfortable large bar with ample seating and both dark and light areas to sit in. Good bar food and service and reasonable price.Plenty of seating around the reception area for quiet chats and some drinks with friends.
Review 120:There was only one thing I didn't like and that was the desert we got was stale. The meal itself was good though.
Review 121:The room was bright and airy.breakfast was very good with a great selection on buffet table. Then the waitress took order for hot food. The staff were very pleasant and efficient. Only had one evening meal in bar it was good value. Another great thing was the use of gym and leisure facilities. Lovely having swim and sauna.
Review 122:Beds not comfortable... Bathroom door was broke.. No bedside lights two of them were broke... Had to ask for extra pillows...
Review 123:We're the hotel is situated.. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 124:The strong smell of cigarette smoke in our room. The furniture was pretty old and shabby.
Review 125:lovely view from our spacious room. Staff very friendly & enthusiastic, nothing was too much trouble. The bar was cosy and welcoming. Meals delicious & good value for money.
Review 126:Had a bar meal on the Saturday evening, waited half an hour to have our order taken plus 2 further prompts.table wasn't,cleaned from the previous people. The meal when it came wasn't,together there was no cutlery and by the time we got it the meal was going cold.not blaming the staff but the organisation
Review 127:Enjoyed the stay, very friendly staff
Review 128:The Hotel was cool on a cold wet and windy. Weekend! There was noheating in my (104)room and the window didn't shut properly BBRrr!!!
Review 129:The shuttle bus service was a winner!! The Breakfast was very good! TheClub sandwich I had in the Waterfront Bar was excellent!
Review 130:The bathrooms need a little TLC and the rooms modernising. Very comfortable though.
Review 131:The hotel staff were very attentive, always helpful. The breakfast was cooked well and the cost very reasonable.
Review 132:Nice, clean hotel, The staff were very friendly--at the reception, in the restaurant, and at the bar. Love the atmosphere in the bar. Great place to sit for a bite and a drink, and of course to watch the crashing waves through the large picture windows.
Review 133:We were woken countless times during night..guests returning to their rooms totally unaware at how noisy the hallways are..in need of replacing..creeky!!!
Review 134:Staff..food excellant.very helpful.
Review 135:The desserts let the menu down. The queue for breakfast in the morning.
Review 136:The newly refurbished rooms are very decadently decorated and the beds are very comfortable. Very honest and trustworthy staff who cater to your every need. Free wi-fi, free car parking and excellent food.
Review 137:Would have just preferred a better selection of food in the bar but the breakfast buffer was fantastic the choices were endless
Review 138:I brought my 6 year old and my 2 year old the staff were very friendly and my kids thoroughly enjoyed the use of the pool and kiddies area would definitely return
Review 139:I booked on line a room with a double bed and 2 single beds, only had double bed and 1 single, felt like we were just given any old room as it wasn't that clean and wasn't hoovered!! And didn't feel welcome as felt like children weren't welcome one bit! Very disappointed!! While booking in receptionist turned back to answer phone rather than to deal with or booking in which I thought was very rude, don't invite families if you feel children are in the road! Also had to wait 25mins before or breakfast order was taken and had to ask when could we sit as first room was full and the lady was not very helpful she didn't seam to want to have to bother with my husband son daughter of myself
Review 140:Close to places where children could play!! As we were just married on 15th may we wanted to make kids have a good time!
Review 141:We had an 8 month old baby and we're given a dirty cot with a dirtier matress that didn't fit cot and a sheet that smelled like vomit. No hot water until next morning. Bathroom dirty.
Review 142:Staff were alright
