Reviews for Hotel Villa Gustui Maris
Review 1:The beaches in cala gonone were disappointing so we had a bit of a drive or boat trip to superb beaches further afield
Review 2:Good location just a short walk out of cala gonone it was quiet with a great view from the balcony. Easy to park, and free. Good breakfast, excellent restaurant. The staff were fantastic. Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable
Review 3:Had a great stay. the pool overlooked Cala Gonone. It was absolutely beautfiful views for breakfast on the patios and from the balconies. Very pretty quiet areas. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Cannot find anything to complain about. Would come back.
Review 4:The interior looked a bit old, the mattress a tad hard.. more of a 3 stars hotel rather than 4, but again the view is breathtaking.
Review 5:The view from this hotel is by far one of the most impressive ones. The staff was helpful, and the food was good.
Review 6:Very steep walk back from town but we knew that when booking and views great as a result of being at top of resort
Review 7:Fantastic views over the bay. Nice terrace and pool. Staff friendly and professional. Good breakfast.
Review 8:Amazing staff, met our every request. The room had a great shower and a lovely balcony with a clothes drier. Breakfast was best of the holiday with amazing yogurt and ricotta, meats, cakes and breads. Although no parking mentioned on booking.com plenty available outside hotel door.
Review 9:Not a really big issue for us but the walk to town whilst short is very steep. Walking back if the temp is high can be quite uncomfortable and if any health issues impossible. Some kind of shuttle or taxi service to town would be the icing on the cake. Having said that we regularly made the walk to burn calories from dinner !
Review 10:Fantastic location with superb views over the bay. Nice pool and sunlounge area. Well organized friendly and courteous staff. Good breakfast. The beaches over the mountain road at the back of the hotel were good. Morning on beach, afternoon by pool and Cala Gonone by night !
Review 11:Insulation between rooms could hav been better. Woken up every morning at 6:30 by neighbours pulling the flush which was not far behind our head board - usually we are heavy sleepers!
Review 12:Fantastic friendly staff
Review 13:Nothing was really bad, but would mention the bed was a bit hard and the air conditioning could have been stronger.
Review 14:We would definitely recommend this place the view is spectacular. The facilities are top knotch better than the 4.5 star hotel we stayed in Porto Cervo. The pool was never too busy, and the hotel was generally nice a quiet. If you are looking for somewhere to relax look no further. A car is definitely needed it is not a long walk into town however it is down hill and in the heat it is almost unbearable. The staff were amazing gave us information on the local area at check in and recommended some places for lunch, local beaches and boat trips to the best beaches on the gulf. We booked our trip in advance but you can book at the hotel.
Review 15:Breakfast needs to be improved a bit more in terms of selection, and maybe Coffee should be offered by the waiters instead of getting it from the table yourself.
Review 16:Staff friendliness, very clean, modern, location.
Review 17:Nothing
Review 18:Fantastic view, cleanliness, friendly staff, perfect breakfast, appropriate swimming pool and a lot of facilities (including towels and umbrella for the beach). Thanks for all!
Review 19:Only downside was dinner, it was expensive for what we got. I got the pasta with prawns but there was only one prawn.
Review 20:Amazing view. Beach Umbrellas and towels were complimentary. Staff were very nice.
Review 21:Nothing wrong with the hotel but the walk back from Cala Gonone is up hill.
Review 22:The hotel was very pleasant and peaceful with a stunning view of Cala Gonone. All the staff were fantastic and could not do enough to make your stay enjoyable.
Review 23:Very nice hotel in a calm area; great view; helpful staff; very practical that it is possible to leave the airco on when leaving the room and that the airco itself was not located directly above the bed (like in many other hotels); comfortable beds
Review 24:Staff was great. Everybody couldn't have been nicer. We had two dinners at the hotel as well and, other than pesky mosquitos, the view and the food were great.
Review 25:I can honestly say we found nothing to dislike about this hotel.
Review 26:The view from our hotel room was stunning. The hotel is situated up a hill so you can see the whole bay and it is very peaceful. The hotel is small so the staff get to know you and they are all extremely friendly.
Review 27:Rooms a little drab - but better than others on offer at Carla Gonome frommy research., wi fi only worked in reception area
Review 28:The views, the service, the pool, the cleanliness, the sound of goats
Review 29:Nothing. All was wonderful!
Review 30:The staff were so lovely and helpful. The view from the hotel is just breathtaking and you get to enjoy it both at breakfast time and at dinner if you choose to eat there. Food was lovely. Whole hotel was spotlessly clean too.
Review 31:Nothing - all good
Review 32:From the moment we checked in, there was a friendly, familiar welcome. Beach towels and umbrellas were provided, also walking poles- plus loads of information on local walks sights and restaurants. The hotel pool was really good As was the hotel restaurant. Walk into town took about 10 mins.
Review 33:We had a wonderful stay at the hotel thanks to its stunning setting and especially its very warm and helpful staff. The room was comfortable and well-equipped, the shower was great, and the buffet breakfast had an amazing variety of fresh and tasty food.
Review 34:No tea/ coffee making in the room, but staff supplied hot water whenever you asked no problem
Review 35:Staff were so helpful, great breakfast, loved the ricotta and honey
Review 36:Hotel should offer shuttle service to the town & beach. It long way uphill to get back. Would like more choice for breakfast, less salty omlets and heated pool water.
Review 37:The view, obstructed however by electricity poles
Review 38:The staff at this hotel were so lovely - they were so welcoming, friendly and helpful. The hotel is peaceful and quiet and sits above the town of Cala Gonone - it has a beautiful view of the Golfo di Orosei that makes the 10-15 minute climb back up the hill from Cala Gonone village worthwhile! The breakfast was excellent and the restaurant does good dinners at a reasonable price if (like us) you are too tired from your the day's hiking to walk down into the village and back again. The swimming pool is lovely and refreshing and (when we were there) not crowded with children which makes a refreshing change! There is so much to do in the area - particularly if you like hiking and swimming. It's easy to hire a boat in town to explore the best beaches (which you can't get to by car and many of which are a strenuous hike to get to). We recommend the hike from Caletta Fuili to Cala Luna (it's not an easy hike though so only do it if you have proper boots and are reasonably fit) - take the detour to explore the north cave of Bue Marino which the big tourist boats don't go to. The steep metal stairs going down the cliff face over the aquamarine sea to get to the cave are worth the walk! Also worth the hike is the Gorropu gorge (bring cash for the 5 Euro entrance fee to the gorge proper at the end).
Review 39:The only thing to be aware of is the walls are thin so allow a lot of low level noise through. Obviously this could cause possible embarrassment! However in our case we quite liked it as we could hear our children if they started arguing with each other. Other than that all was perfect. Just remember the hotel is at the top of a very steep hill. So walking down to town is a breeze, walking back not so. Far better via the local Tuck Tuck which was great fun and only 3 euros per adult.
Review 40:This hotel was just perfect, they had put us next to our children's room with connecting balconies without having to ask. The owner was delightful and made the children so welcome. They also had a selection of children's toys to use in the pool, or to take to the beach. Nothing was too much trouble and the lovely breakfast was plentiful. My eldest took full advantage using the free wifi . Finally the view from the hotel was just wonderful.
Review 41:e really Very difficult to find negatives but for us the only thing was the food, we unfortunately didn't enjoy the dinner we had in the restaurant on one evening and felt that the selection of food available for lunch was quite limited. Although in saying that the restaurant was bust every night and possibly was just not to our taste
Review 42:Fantastic location with stunning views of the bay. The location had the right balance between being quiet and peaceful if you want to relax and also close enough walking distance to restaurants and bars if you prefer that. The best thing for us staying at Villa Gustui Maris was the fantastic staff that went out of their way to make our visit as enjoyable as possible. In particular Paola was so hopeful with helping to rent a car, even her husband (sorry I can't remember his name) drove us to collect the car and also dropped us to the bus stop to the airport We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it!
Review 43:Everything was perfect!
Review 44:-Stunning location: with beautiful mountains as a backdrop, and with a 180 degree views of the picturesque Cala Gonnone bay - at night, a view of the moon casting a warm glow on the sea - absolutely beautiful - Wonderful staff: Paola and Vincenza and the restaurant manager, all fabulous people with an amazing sense of hospitality - Beautiful swimming pool - Peaceful, serene and beautifully maintained front garden in which to sunbathe, read or swim - Good breakfast and dinner in the in-house restaurant with reasonable prices We had a truely wonderful stay here , and we will surely come back one day! Cala Gonnone and the nearby beaches (eg Cala Mariolu, Cala Sisine) and caves (eg Grotto Bue Marino) are incredibly beautiful - makes for a magical holiday
Review 45:A steep hill to get to the hotel from central Cala Gonone. With good legs this is not a problem though.
Review 46:Fantastic view, nice pool, clean rooms, friendly and helfpful staff. Ok breakfast.
Review 47:We stayed for a full week at this lovely hotel, with a stunning view of the ocean. The room was thoroughly cleaned every day, with all new towels. Especially satisfied with the wifi, as it worked perfectly also in the pool area. Super friendly staff that helped us with whatever questions we had. Nice and clean pool area with leathery soft cushions for the sun beds, and ability to get cool drinks served from the bar. The only slight negative I have to comment is the distance to the city center. It takes approx. 10 minutes to walk down, and 15-20 minutes (where you build up a sweat!) to walk back up. But I would definitely recommend the hotel, we are longing back!
Review 48:The walls a bit too thin in our room.
Review 49:Fantastic location on top of the village with wonderful views. We got upgraded upon arrival due to low capacity, something all hotels should do. Good wifi that worked everywhere. Helpful and friendly staff with good service, beach towels and umbrellas were available to loan etc. Great breakfast and great dinner
Review 50:Tough walk up to the hotel! Threadbare old towels for the pool/beach Expensive Did not top up toiletries in room Poky room
Review 51:Great view Friendly staff
Review 52:Walls to neighbouring room too thin, requested a change if rooms. Second room much better and quieter.

Review 60:The furnitures look like ....1980! The lack of flowers , trees...
Review 61:The view from the hotel!
Review 62:Very friendly staff. Nice food, great views, fantastic swimming pool.
Review 63:Great location and friendly staff.
Review 64:Nice hotel and nice viws. Staff very friendly always trying to help and make our stay Confortable.
Review 65:nothing
Review 66:Very friendly staff, stunning location, lovely pool and great views.
Review 67:No real showers in modern bathroom Website implies and infinity pool but it is a normal pool.
Review 68:Staff and location v good
Review 69:Wonderful friendly hotel. Liked the staff, the fact it felt more like I was in my own villa and its location.
Review 70:Nothing really
Review 71:The scenic view, great pool area, wonderful and helpful staff, good wifi, quiet hotel
Review 72:Peaceful, serene, relaxing, beautiful, and warm staff.
Review 73:Distance from town with a very hard walk back up a very steep hill-no taxis
Review 74:Pool, hotel, peace and quiet
Review 75:The staff were great, beautiful grounds and room. 5 minute walk to the action, and far enough away to just relax.
Review 76:Number of TV programms
Review 77:The beautiful place and people
Review 78:Camere con arredamento poco moderno, phon improponibile, pressione dell'acqua insufficiente
Review 79:Ottima posizione
Review 80:prefer a set menu for dinner as in Hotel Palau for 20 euros.
Review 81:a room with a view
Review 82:Noise travels due to extensive use of tiling - typical for a Mediterranean hotel.
Review 83:Scenery. Staff. Location. Easy on street parking.
Review 84:Very nice and cosy hotel.. Balcony view simply amazing.. Personnel very polite!
Review 85:Peaceful and beautiful location. We had a wonderful stay, breakfasts are a highlight !
Review 86:Expensive, view worth it!
Review 87:Paula could not be nicer, always smiling. lovely setting for a few days
Review 88:We don't mind but be prepared to climb A bit hard to find Bad wifi
Review 89:The magnificent view The pool The Breakfast The location
Review 90:Paula and her staff where truly amazing and very helpful. The view from the pool and restaurant is breathtaking...every time
Review 91:The staff were very attentive and the breakfast was the best we had in Sardinia.
Review 92:Small bathroom + bad shower, price rather high
Review 93:Nice view & swimming pool. Friendly staff.
Review 94:Amazing view of coast line Relaxing and quite hotel Friendly staff Nice breakfast
Review 95:electric sockets in room near mirrors and more light at mirrors. More privacy on Balcony
Review 96:Beautiful views, friendly helpful staff, good food. English speaking a bonus
Review 97:A really beautiful hotel, spotlessly clean and comfortable. A very nice swimming pool area looking out over Cala Gonone and lovely reception staff. We stayed only one night but were made to feel very welcome. Breakfast was vast and set us up for the next leg of our journey.
Review 98:The staff was very friendly and helpful, right from the moment we checked in. We were upgraded to a room with a beautiful view of the ocean--magnificent!
Review 99:Air conditioning did not seem very effective.
Review 100:Attractive building designed to blend with the neutral colours of the lanscape; very charming and helpful staff, especially restaurant staff and on reception; cleanliness, restaurant; views from lovely pool area, restaurant and room.
Review 101:Broken items in room Faulty shower Temperature swings in shower Poor sound proofing in rooms Loud air conditioning
Review 102:Location Helpful and friendly staff Free use of beach equipment Breakfast
Review 103:Only real complaint was the soundproofing which isn't great and you can hear people in other rooms but it's not terrible and shouldn't put you off and they could do with some sort of screening on the balconies between the rooms but all this said it's still a good place and this shouldn't put you off.
Review 104:This is a great hotel in a lovely position above Cala Gonone. Very friendly and more than helpful family run. Rooms are spacious and comfortable and the bathrooms are also a good size and extremely clean. Like all hotels it has a few faults but they really are minor. Some people have said the breakfast isn't that good but it's a decent continental breakfast with a good selection of rolls, bread, jams, cereals, fruits, yoghurt, cakes, teas, coffees etc. One of the cleanest pools I have seen in a European hotel. It's very quiet and in a lovely location overlooking the bay and small town. A car is essential if you don't like steep walks but you need a car anyway in Sardinia otherwise you won't see much. The restaurant serves good food but it is a bit overpriced compared to the restaurants in the town where there are several great places to eat at better prices. Try the Agriturismos that are everywhere for some good local food at very reasonable costs. Whether it warrants it's 4 star status is debatable but it's still a good, well run hotel and nothing is too much trouble .. oh and the packed lunches are great! This isn't a place full of noise people who drink too much it's a relaxing environment.
Review 105:Shared balcony, distance from town but view was exceptional
Review 106:The friendly charming staff who went out of their way to prepare special dishes and ensure we were happy with everything
Review 107:A bit far from the city center (15min walk), we went by car. Same bit far from the beach.
Review 108:I liked the quality of the service from the staff. They were always very helpful. The free wifi was also appreciated
Review 109:Quite a hike from the centre of town to the hotel up a hill. The benefit is that you have a very view and is very quiet.
Review 110:Excellent staff. Very welcoming and helpful. Good breakfast and pool.
Review 111:Best to have a car so you can access the beaches and town easily - definitely worth the expense though.
Review 112:This is a lovely, small hotel situated on the hill above Cala Gonone town on the east coast of Sardinia. Very clean, beautiful pool and great views over the bay. Highly recommended for couples or young families wanting a quiet spot to relax.
Review 113:Breakfast was good but is a cold selection ...very continental. No hot eggs and you have to get your own tea and coffee.
Review 114:Friendly staff especially kind to my young daughter. Nice pool. Clean rooms. Family owned hotel so feels rustic rather than typical 4 star chain of hotels. Very nice. Staff exceedingly helpful with ideas and directions for things to do and places to go.
Review 115:ventilator noise from adjacent room sometimes in the night.
Review 116:very friendly en pleasantly service orientated staff, a comforable, and nicely designed place, spacious room with great view over the bay. Clean pool and enough space there as well. About 10 minute walk to the centre of the village. We twice had dinner in the hotel's restaurant which offers fine cuisine against a reasonable price. Extensive breakfast buffet as well. We were very satisfied with our stay.
Review 117:Some time and effort needed to get to the beach, beaches in the town were stony and overcrouded. So to get to the seashore we used a car (which seemed somewhat odd at the beginning). But one can appreciate very nice beaches within 10-15 min drive instead. Finally we haven't considered this to be a disadvantage either.
Review 118:Absolutely everything. Very welcoming staff providing detailed advice on what to visit and how to get there. Excellent cuisine (best in Cala Gonone, imho). Fantastic panoramic view to the sea and mountains from the terrasse and most rooms. And the quietness - just 10 min away from the town center (way back takes more as one has to walk up rather steep slope). Special thanks to Paola.
Review 119:The only drawback is the walk back up to the hotel from the town, although we enjoyed it most of the time and it was great exercise.
Review 120:Great management and staff. Wonderful location. Nice room with good balcony Very good food and service.
Review 121:Shower (water pressure) was not very good.
Review 122:The views from the pool, breakfast area, bar area are lovely and a great way to start each day. The staff are very friendly, and nothing was too much trouble for them. They have plenty of beach equipment (towels, umbrellas, etc) for guests to borrow. A 15 min walk into town is pleasant (although the walk up the hill on the way home is steep). Poolside drinks service was appreciated, as well as the ability to use the facilities on the day of check out.
Review 123:Rooms are noisy, walls not insulated so you can hear the neighbours using the bath, or their kids screaming all night. Little privacy on the balcony of the room. Overall decor is clean but somewhat outdated. Quite a walk to the town...
Review 124:Rooms are clean, nice view from the pool overlooking the bay.
Review 125:Hard beds, the hotel is up on a hill which makes it hard when you walk up from town.
Review 126:Nice and friendly staff, nice and clean rooms. Perfect view over the sea. Nice swimming pool.
Review 127:nothing - everything went smoothly.
Review 128:great place to stay in Sardinia. good views - and easy access (by boat mostly) to most of the best beaches. staff were awesome. views tremendous
