Reviews for Hotel Grand Chancellor Adelaide on Hindley

Review 1:The room wasn't the same as in the picture online. However, it was still nice and it had a great view so not complaining. The 'Queen Bed' was just 2 single pushed together, but still comfortable. Shower was in the bath.

Review 2:Location was great. Easy to get around the city. Taxi stand right in front of hotel. Lots of places to eat within walking distance. Easy walk to Rundle Mall too. Staff were very friendly. Room was clean. Breakfast buffet was incredible. Everything you could want. Beds were comfortable. The pool was beautiful. Solar heated, but not too hot. Pool towels available too.

Review 3:No complaints.

Review 4:Location location location - Hindley Street is very convenient to venues and lots smarter than it used to be. Our room was soacious and attractive, also the bathroom. Breakfast choices were very good, even a pancake maker, and good coffee machine.

Review 5:Car parking spaces are tight and some are particularly difficult to access. Someone to act as a guide is necessary at times Not a grand hotel (as per name) with regard to rooms but for the price I paid I am not complaining

Review 6:Fantastic value, convenient location, staff. Staff approachable, friendly, considerate and Heath in the car park at the time provided assistance without asking cos he saw I was in a tight space

Review 7:SMOKERS AT THE FRONT DOOR, EACH TIME YOU WALKED IN OR OUT OF THE BUILDING YOU WALKED THROUGH A HAZE OF CIGARETTE SMOKE.

Review 8:general location within the CBD

Review 9:One mattress needed replacing, blood on the doona, the bath had a fixed screen which made it difficult to wash a young child. During breakfast the high chair we asked for never arrived.

Review 10:The staff were helpful.

Review 11:The free wifi available per room is soo little and very slow that we have difficulties settling down and signing up to the local mobile and data provider. The district is very active at night, with bars, clubs and even adult-themed places. So guests should be careful when coming back late in the night. (There is a nearby police station and officers roaming around the area at night).

Review 12:The location is very near to the main shopping district and public transportation (bus, tram & train stations), with direct buses/trams to many main attraction of Adelaide. The quality of the room is extremely good, especially for this cheap price. The view from our hotel room is also magnificent!

Review 13:Misleading, unhelpful and lazy staff at front desk. Housekeeping withalzheimer's disease. Minibar man was a rude pervert. Cleaninglady has no understanding of sign ' do not disturb',apparently to her understanding it meant knock, knock and keep ofdamn knocking. Street the hotel is on is full of middle east ghettoclubs and adult shops.

Review 14:There is no outdoor shower at the pool. I saw people coming out from the gym and going into the pool. Why was the 31st of december charged at twice the rate? I was not foretold this.

Review 15:I did not like the location of the hotel. I did not know it was in the red district of the city

Review 16:Main car park is always full so you have to use the alternative park which does not have an entrance to the hotel. The car park elevator does not work so getting your bags down and up seven flights of stairs is not ideal - not really worth the $18 a day you get charged. We also got stuck in the middle elevator for ten minutes while it took us up and down 12 floors several times without stopping or allowing us to open the door. In terms of the room, pretty good, just never like to shower off the bath.

Review 17:Staff are always very friendly and room is always clean.

Review 18:carpets need a good steam clean or be replaced pool/spa closed at 10:30pm would of liked to stay out there longer

Review 19:had a great stay the staff were nice room was good pool and spa were great met some nice people on new years in the pool everything worked as it should

Review 20:The shower was a little old and tired and it was difficult to turn the water off, it just kept dripping. Also one of the reasons I picked this hotel is that it had a gym but the space was so small and cramped, I wouldn't recommend it for that. I would also note that unless you get a good deal the upgrade to a king room isn't really worth it.

Review 21:The location was very convenient with many bars and restaurants nearby and the rooms were as you would expect, comfortable with everything you need. It's on a busy street but I didn't hear any outside noise. The wifi was a plus but Adelaide does have free city wifi anyway so that's pretty good and car parking also was very convenient but it came at an extra cost. The staff were all very friendly in my dealings with them.

Review 22:My credit card was pre-authorised by the Hotel which I wasn't aware when i made the booking online. it also didn't say that I was going to be charged a refundable deposit for $50 per night on my credit card. It would be better that the website highlights this for people to avoid any confusion.

Review 23:location

Review 24:The location, whilst central, is not an area that would suit everyone with numerous adult shops and bars. When leaving the hotel, turn right and it is fine!

Review 25:We were upgraded to a King Executive upon arrival. It was a spacious, quiet and comfortable room which more than met our needs. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The pool on the first floor was a pleasant surprise.

Review 26:I was told my room would have a bath and as amazing as the shower was - it's not the same thing. Also paying $100 when I've just paid for the room and given my card details seems unnecessary?

Review 27:The staff were incredibly polite and courteous, the location was sensational, and the hotel room itself was worth every dollar.

Review 28:The Hotel was Quite Expensive for a Room which had No TV Signal & the Air con in the room also wasn't working which was quite uncomfortable on days which the temperature was 40+

Review 29:The Room Was very Clean & Modern. I have stayed many times before and was happy although the room had many issues which made the stay unbearable due to the heat. Would not Stay again.

Review 30:In hindsight I would have preferred to stay in Glenelg rather than in Adelaide city. The hotel does have a pool which is nice but we had to share it with tattooed bogans drinking their own bacardi and coke mix from protein shakers. We got what we paid for.

Review 31:The bed was mega comfy and the air conditioning was very good on a 44 degree day. The staff were also very lovely.

Review 32:Bit scary walking the street after a show - seedy side of town ...but plenty of police on foot. Fine during the day.

Review 33:Size of room, bathtub location near tram, choice of restaurants nearby

Review 34:Parking is a little tight. The interior could do with an update, looks tired.

Review 35:Good location. We stayed in the suite which is very spacious and has a small kitchenette. We were in room 415, a quiet room. What we paid for was good value.

Review 36:The only thing that I would say is the carpet in the passages need a good clean or a change but the room was great

Review 37:The room and all the facilities and location are perfect for us.

Review 38:Miss the bath

Review 39:Is nice to see some familiar faces and everyone is still friendly and hospitable. Best location, is always clean, shame about losing the bath.

Review 40:The location is great! Hindley Street is right in the heart of the action which is where we want to be. The hotel staff were excellent; very welcoming, courteous, polite and efficient. The room was lovely and of course the cleanliness was as expected in four star accommodation. This was our second trip to Adelaide, both times staying at this hotel and both times we enjoyed a lovely experience.

Review 41:A quick visit to Adelaide to catch up with friends was made all the easier with the standard of & at this hotel. Just wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy it

Review 42:The hotel staff are very professional and polite, we weren't happy with the room we were put in and they offered to upgrade us from a Queen Deluxe to a King Suite for a very good price! & it was exactly what we were wanting! They also let us have people up there to get ready with us before we went out! Would stay there again :)

Review 43:On 2nd floor. Kept up most of night with the sound of a nightclub. Not good when you have business meetings the next day. Have stayed there several times and would have thought they could have given a better room. Sure I am not the first person to complain about this.

Review 44:Good staff

Review 45:They were so good to me, so calming on such a hot day . Very helpful with the car parking and quick check in so I could cool off. I have to commend the employee on Sunday December 6 th who helped me when I couldn't get my car out of the park. He went over and above , having clearly knocked off. I'm sorry I didn't get his name as I was trying to get to conference by 9 am .

Review 46:Breakfast not great. No bowls for cereals and/or fruit on 2 occasions, did not have breakfast at Hotel again during our stay.

Review 47:Good central location, clean and reasonably priced.

Review 48:Stayed for 6 nights - Parking is terrible. Very narrow garage with limited spaces. Very expensive. Recommend not staying here if driving. Hotel ran test of emergency system early in the morning. Very poor experience that day.

Review 49:Central location is a plus. Can walk to Rundle Mall and the Casino. Easy access to public transport. Good restaurants near by. Thai food next door was great.

Review 50:Shower had a very strong musty mound small when showering. Vents Iv bathroom were full of dust and mould. Ironing board cover - cheap and didn't fit the ironing board making it hard to iron my clothes. Room service "surf and turf" was far to small and very expensive for the 100g steak it can with, and very poor presentation. disappointing

Review 51:Customer service was proberly the best part of the stay

Review 52:The smokers were noisy till early morning and the street was not great.

Review 53:Loved everything about the hotel, the room was good, the meals very good and reasonably priced. Only old hotels know how to really serve breakfast, enjoyed the whole stay.

Review 54:Unclean room Mattress had permanent sink hole in middle of bed View was not the best

Review 55:Location terrific Lovely reception and rooms Lifts worked great

Review 56:asked for skimmed milk on check in Friday, still hadn't received it by check out Saturday. The bathroom, very small, no window, not exhaust fan and vanity far to wide and high. The horrible view out of the second floor window

Review 57:The great buffet and entertainment at the hotel. It was quiet

Review 58:Hotel carpark was full and I had to leave my vehicle in an adjacent public carpark overnight. Security was my main concern, but the hotel staff were helpfull.

Review 59:Hotel was great.

Review 60:The city was at capacity over this weekend. Regardless the check in was smooth and staff very friendly. Beautiful foyer......easy access to parking......very nice room and super comfy bed. Very nice breakfast. Will be back for AFL home games in 2016.

Review 61:Kitchenette was basic and room would have been better with a washing machine

Review 62:Large and comfortable room Good central location Clean and well presented

Review 63:No infrasauna, no clock in the sauna.

Review 64:Location simply cannot be better. Staff is friendly and always helpful. Room is spacious, beds are wide and very comfortable.

Review 65:Location was central, but surrounded by noisy adult locations and pubs, there are nicer parts of the city. Room service quality was low, not that good, even for room service.

Review 66:Room was large, bed comfortable.

Review 67:One very minor criticism is that the fitness center has very limited equipment so at peak times it could be difficult to access what you wanted.

Review 68:I was visiting Adelaide for a conference and the Grand Chancellor is very well situated, it was a very easy walk to the convention center. The staff were lovely, very helpful. I forgot my phone charger and they provided me with one, no problems.

Review 69:Following my 5th stay at the Grand Chancellor on Hindley, I can whole heartedly recommend this Hotel for business or personal stay. The location is excellent for my business appointments and family connections with train and tram access within a short distance. Staff are professional, friendly and helpful and the accommodation is of a high quality.

Review 70:Room decor little tired but nevertheless clean and had everything for one night stay

Review 71:Excellent reception bar and restaurant staff. Met a family member who is regular client, I will be back

Review 72:The restaurant is very average, meals were just warm.

Review 73:Location is very central , hotel décor and room very good. The room was not serviced very well and we had to call down to reception a couple of times

Review 74:Location probably not the best that Adelaide has to offer. Very noisy and not a great feeling of safety on street after dark.

Review 75:Hotel and facilities gets a tick. Staff great. Overall great value.

Review 76:I think your price exceeded your decor and fixings by far !!!!! nothingis for free/complimentary. You want to fart.... You pay. I stayed 5days and a $1000 later. I think you should have a look at your starratings again. I can get the same value for half the price overseas butI suppose that is just Australia for you. A rip-off where ever you go !

Review 77:Location is about the only thing.

Review 78:When we first arrived at the hotel they gave us a queen sized bed when we had payed for a king size. We notified them that we wire not happy about this and they quickly changed rooms for us.

Review 79:I had 2 rooms during my stay and found each one noisy at night from outside establishments.

Review 80:The desk staff was most friendly and helpful when I had to change rooms.

Review 81:Loud people on our floor late at night, who were yelling at all hours and for a long time. Mini bar wasn't stocked very well. Parking was expensive.

Review 82:Staff were helpful and made checking in and out very simple. Parking was easy.

Review 83:the house keeper didn't do the job properly.

Review 84:Perfect location! staying Adelaide for three days we didn't moved our car which parked at hotel's car park. facilities are very good.

Review 85:We are from the country and our room was ready for check in at 11am, the parking was safe and secure and reasonably priced. Rooms were comfy and very friendly staff. We'll be back.

Review 86:Vent in bathroom obviously not cleaned for years, left you wondering what else was not clean. Room service kept missing things off.

Review 87:Room whilst basic was comfortable

Review 88:The breakfast in room service did not always get our order right and did not always give us what we need e.g salt for a Continental breakfast instead of sugar. My corn flakes tasted terrible after that! !

Review 89:The mini bar had not been replenished after the previous occupants but reception staff were pleasant when we reported this and assured us that we would not be charged for the missing items.

Review 90:Being given access to our room mid -morning on arrival and being able to leave our luggage on day of departure.

Review 91:The hot water was a bit brown when i turned it on for a bath.

Review 92:The spacious rooms, the location was central to everything, quiet, very comfortable and excellent plus helpful staff.

Review 93:Spa out of action for the 2 nights ...bed was very uncomfortable ( could feel the 2 beds joined in maddle)...toilet leaked...car park lift not working...one guest lift not working

Review 94:Location is great being 5 mins to Rundle Mall or casino

Review 95:Very disappointed that the Hotel charges a 1.5% surcharge when paying by credit card. We stayed for 7 nights so our bill was over $1000, perhaps the Hotel should consider this surcharge when bookings are only for 1 or 2 nights.

Review 96:Great location, and very high standard of cleaning. It was great after being out all day to come back to a lovely clean room.

Review 97:Hard to find a great special price for this hotel . Please do more last minute great prices on yr rooms.

Review 98:Great friendly staff at reception. Concierge was great. Room was super clean and comfy. Enormous bed which is hard to find for 2 tall people. Really enjoyable stay.

Review 99:The ridiculous amount of money you have to pay just to secure your room like the insurance money you get back after you stay. It is poorly advertised to hotel guests and is quite a ridiculous amount of money to just come up with. I suggest you evaluate that and come up with a better solution. It was very disappointing the amount of advertising you have for that.

Review 100:The style of the hotel was nice. It was a nice night away to let my hair down and relax and enjoy myself.

Review 101:The bed was very hard and uncomfortable and we were told we were upgraded to a King room but it was a Queen bed with a King bedhead.

Review 102:The location was great. The bathroom was terrific.

Review 103:The Hotel claims to be 4Star but not all rooms are of that standard. WiFi is promoted as 'Free' but it has a limit of 100MB. House Keeping is average. Location is a bit noisy.

Review 104:The staff was very hospitable and I liked that they were considerate to accomodate my requirement of room change on complimentary basis. Location is convenient for public transport access.

Review 105:there was a mix up with payment fees through booking.com which wasn,t there fault but hotel waved fees to make up, they also gave my 10 year old a box of chocolates as it was his birthday. We dined in for tea never had better, friendly service and meal was best I've had in a long time. Great weekend.

Review 106:Breakfast was below average in taste and variety, some appliances in the room are very old and should be replaced

Review 107:Very spacious rooms, cleanliness, central location in the heart of downtown Adelaide, large lobby with many chairs to relax in

Review 108:Long walk to the Elevators (bit slow) from my room - can't have everything!

Review 109:Corner room, view to N.West, quiet. Secure parking with self access to my vehicle 15hours/day, assisted access for remainder.

Review 110:We asked for some plates to be brought up to our room and they arrived dirty with someone elses cheese on them. Uncomfortable pillows too soft. Tiny bins in the room. Bed was on wheels and kept rolling away from the wall when you sat up.

Review 111:happy hour at the bar $5 pints and wine

Review 112:Breakfast buffet is boring and limited. Excessive noise from clubs during weekends until 5 a.m.

Review 113:The view and the room size, and the staff were friendly and don't charge you for stuff you won't use. Example, breakfast.

Review 114:Room was small, insufficient towel rails in bathroom, no clothes line in bathroom, horrible "raindrops" shower head, could not get aircon to cool the room, Internet a ripoff when it's free outside in the street, spa pool delay switch is a right pain.

Review 115:Great service from reception staff.

Review 116:That my deposit is still locked off and its been 5 day. But they are a great hotel.

Review 117:I liked it all. Staff were so fantastic i will definitely recommend and stay again..

Review 118:The surroundings of the hotel is too noisy, it's quite unsafe for a single lady to be out around at night.

Review 119:Staff are very nice and friendly. Room facilities is updated and renovated. Good view from my room.

Review 120:Nothing, everything very good!

Review 121:Location, security and clean comfortable spacious room. Value for money! Service staff excellent especially when they got a taxi to sent the cheese I left behind to the airport.

Review 122:Pillows were too soft. But everything else was perfect

Review 123:Clean room. Amazing staff. Comfy bed. Great breakfast. Everything you need within walking distance.

Review 124:Right next to strip clubs! Breakfast options aren't the best. Expected better amenities (although it seems appropriate for the price)

Review 125:Reasonably central location, plenty of food places around, good staff, extremely affordable even for the bigger rooms

Review 126:Dinner. I had surf and turf my steak was the size of boiled egg and tuff with 2 tiny prawns soaked in a not very nice sauce along side a massive serve of mash potatoe not very enjoyable. The breakfast did nake up for it.

Review 127:Breakfast was wonderful lication really good. Hotel a bit old but very clean

Review 128:The food from the bistro was disgusting,I ordered battered fish and sent it back as it was cooked in cold oil it was soaking in fat.my husband had a burger that also was disgusting, waste of $60.00.The breakfast buffet didn't look all that appealing. The chairs in dining room need updating as I was watching older folk trying to pick them up and they struggled to move them, far too heavy.

Review 129:Comfortable bed & pillow.

Review 130:the intercom when you press the button to get the roller door lifted for the car park was very hard to hear, needs to be louder

Review 131:The staff were extremely friendly and definitely helpful, the car park was easy to get to from the lifts.

Review 132:Pity it was in the part of town that was not very nice, if you were looking for the seedy part of town, you found it, if not, its not very nice, I didn't feel safe outside of the hotel

Review 133:Comfort & service was lovely

Review 134:I thought I belonged to a loyalty club with Hotel Grand Chancellor from stays in Brisbane and was disappointed they couldn't locate that for me

Review 135:Priced well. Close to city. Hotel staff were faultless. Definately recommend it to my friends and would make this my hotel of choice in Adelaide as it ticked all the bixes

Review 136:beware of "upgrades" as upgraded room was app. half the size of advertised room,no seating but on the bed. Excuse from staff was that "upgraded" room was on a higher level. (and got a room that does not full fill the advertised standard specifications) We are sure we could have had the originally booked room, would we have compared them at the time, but only found out later as we looked at the pictures of the room again on the room description.(after checkout) In short, nothing wrong with small room, but we feel misled.

Review 137:As we stayed there during the recent fire next door it was pleasing to see how organised the hotel was with the evacuation and subsequent issues relating to the fire. Would highly recommend to anyone and the hotel is so close to the CBD that we never took the car out of the car park for the duration of our stay!
