Rock House Hotel Guest House descritpion

Standing alone at the entrance to Lynmouth’s stunning harbor, this picturesque 18th-century building houses accommodations with superb views of the sea, the river or the Lyn Valley.
With a unique waterside location, the Rock House is situated in Lynmouth, one of North Devon's most picturesque villages. Lynmouth lies at the mouth of the Lyn River, with Exmoor and the town of Lynton towering above. The village is surrounded by the stunning scenery and the natural beauty of the Exmoor National Park. In Victorian times, Lynton and Lynmouth were fondly known as Little Switzerland.
The Rock House makes a great base from which to explore the region’s great walks; along the rugged North Devon coastal path; through woodlands alongside the Lyn River or across the rolling moorlands of Lorna Doone country.
Free private parking is possible on site.
Every room has a private bathroom and central heating. Each room has a TV, a hairdryer, an alarm clock and tea/coffee making facilities. All of the rooms are attractive and furnished to a high standard. Some rooms have four-poster beds.
All rooms have superb views of the sea, the river or the Lyn Valley.
The candlelit harbor-side restaurant has wonderful views of the sea and offers intimate dining, complemented by a selection of fine wines.
The fully licensed bar overlooks the hotel’s picturesque garden, where lunches or cream teas can be enjoyed in fine weather.

Reviews for Rock House Hotel Guest House

Review 1:The terrible drunkeness of the owner! He was drunk on reception! said we could come round to the reception and get our own keys when we want them on our return from going out, felt rather uneasy at the thought of our own door key being that exposed to other guests. He was so drunk in the evening he fell on the floor and the barman and my partner had to get him home. Awful!

Review 2:We loved the location, the hotel was really lovely and comfortable. Our room was really nice, four poster very comfy bed with views towards the sea, stunning!

Review 3:The parking bays are a little too cramped for turning radius but we managed.

Review 4:I love the location and its setting. Wonderfully unique in more ways than one. Nice and friendly people managing it and very accommodating (we went down for breakfast a little later after the hour was up). I would love to be back here again in Room 4. Great place to be.

Review 5:Nothing really, breakfast room was a bit cramped on the first day but, as it was literally on the water with amazing views, it really didn't mayter

Review 6:Great location, really friendly staff and great food

Review 7:All the staff were very polite and helpful, without being 'over the top'. I ate breakfast and dinner on both days and couldn't fault the choice, food or service. Dinner and the room rate were very good value. Superb location - right on the beach and not even a couple of minutes' walk from the centre of Lynmouth, affording easy access to the National Park. It would be perfectly possible to enjoy a full week here without moving your car once.

Review 8:Not very clean & basic breakfast which was appalling. Staff often unavailable and slightly rude on one occasion regarding checkout. Wrong room due to 'overbooking'. Tight & limited parking.

Review 9:Good location.

Review 10:As we were on the ground floor near the bar/toilet are ,was a bit noisy later in the evening !Bit of a lottery for car parking space if we were last ones back .

Review 11:Excellent evening meal ,although menu same each night.

Review 12:on arrival we were given a warm welcome by the young man on reception, as we were early our room was not ready, he got us a drink from the bar, letting us know when the room was ready and showed us to it. The room was spotless and comfortable , breakfast was freshly cooked to order and we found all the staff to be very friendly and helpful

Review 13:Only stayed the one night, wish we booked longer

Review 14:A lovely place to stay, room looked out to the sea, evening meal in the restaurant was excellent, breakfast was superb.

Review 15:Food not served for long enough

Review 16:We were made to feel very welcome. The whole stay was perfect and comfortable with great food and hospitality second to none

Review 17:Parking on Site quite tight a bit more space would be good. Some areas looked a bit tired and would benefit from some redecorations.A larger selection on the evening menu would be nice if staying more than three nights.

Review 18:Location with its views across the harbour.Close to the town. Good attentive staff, excellent food. Lovely bedroom.

Review 19:There really is isn't anything about this hotel to dislike

Review 20:Hotel is probably in the best spot in Lynmouth with absolutely stunning views of harbour and sea from bedroom windows

Review 21:Everything! They have got it so right! Can't think of a single thing that was a negative experience. Some of the well known branded hotels could learn a lot from them...

Review 22:Wall paper coming off walls ,ceiling coming down ,not lamp shades on the wall lamps.few staff around.Dogs allowed in the breakfast area.Dirty nets around the four poster.

Review 23:Not a lot ,the location is the only plus for this hotel.

Review 24:Parking was difficult at times, needed more spaces.

Review 25:View from room, comfort and location. Very helpful and friendly staff, all food great. Great walking and visiting area.

Review 26:Too many dog walkers through the outdoor part of the hotel (with attendant fallout). Parking strictly limited (first come, first served), but street parking available nearby.

Review 27:The staff, the site and the breakfast. The breakfast was excellent, freshly cooked (so a small wait) and more if you wanted it. Didn't have evening meal there, so can't comment on that.

Review 28:No bad experience at all.

Review 29:Loved the location. I thought the meals were very good, could not fault the food at all. The staff were very obliging, and could not fault them either.

Review 30:Nothing bad about our stay but nothing exceptional either Proprietor didn't seem particularly friendly or welcoming

Review 32:No bad experiences that I can think of.

Review 33:Relaxing atmosphere of the hotel and staff willing to do anything to make our stay more comfortable, in a beautiful/central location.

Review 34:Waiting for over a hour for our Main Meal. Fish pie which should of had salmon, cod, haddock. It only had 98% prawn and 1piece of cod. They was no steak which was on the special menu for Valentine's day. In fact they was not a lot left on that menu. We arrived in restaurant at 7,so it wasn't that we were late in.
