Reviews for Regency Hotel
Review 1:Can be awkward to find if you haven't a sat nav or arrive when it's dark as hotel is set back a bit in London Road and name isn't that visible from the road.
Review 2:Friendliness of staff. Hearty breakfast
Review 3:Arriving after dark the hotel was fairly hard to find drove past once and had to ask someone local - sign not lit up well.
Review 4:Comfortable room and a brilliant breakfast good value for money.
Review 5:The shower over the bath non thermostatic and not easy to direct. No nice view from bedroom window.
Review 6:Friendly staff. Freshly cooked breakfast. Free parking.
Review 7:When I asked if I could check out later than 10am I couldn't really get a straight answer and he really didn't seem bothered! Shower was horrible, Luke warm... If that!
Review 8:Reception was friendly.
Review 9:Sticky bathroom floor - laid towel on it so we didn't have to walk barefoot on it. Toilet did not flush. Coin and dust left on bedroom floor - vacuuming not very good. Chilly breakfast room.
Review 10:The room was quiet. Choice of pillows.
Review 11:The room was awful - a cracked toilet, bathroom ventilator that sounded like a helicopter, sink drainage that sounded pretty similar. A very uncomfortable bed - I opted to sleep on the floor in the end! Neither of us could face breakfast. The main priority seemed to be ensuring guests paid promptly, any other concern of management was incidental!
Review 12:the location - convenient for south Leicester!
Review 13:It would have been nice to have a few toiletries in the shower room.
Review 14:Beds were comfortable and very clean. Room was rather warm and the window would not open.
Review 15:Arrived late and the water available for a shower was only lukewarm. The material headboard was a bit grubby! It took a while to get the TV working, due to no instructions and 2 separate remotes.
Review 16:A nice looking hotel from the outside and plenty of free parking. The breakfast was very good and the bed was comfy.
Review 17:TV in room not straightforward to operate and no written instructions available. Nasty coffee with breakfast - it is in a jug on a hot plate but I'm pretty sure is the same instant that you get in a sachet in the room - unpleasant aftertaste IMO
Review 18:Some distance from the centre but accessible by frequent buses and just about walkable from railway station. It's a bit dated but in a quaint and not unattractive way. Very pleasant staff.
Review 19:I didn't like the fact we only stayed one night.
Review 20:The Regency was old, but full of class and comfort. It had character and a wonderful atmosphere. It also had the best cooked breakfast I have ever encountered.
Review 21:Staff. Except cleaner lady who was fantastic, staff wasn't very nice. I fell ill after their breakfast and their attitude was: couldn't care less, your problem, very poor attitude. Toilet didn't work on my room, when I complaint that I am sick and toilet dont work, they just said that they cant fix my room toilet on weekend
Review 22:Location was good, room small but nice, shower worked really well. Cleaner lady was fantastic and helpful
Review 23:Substandard room. Cold water tap only worked for 3 seconds and then no water. We were expecting more from this hotel, has a good reputation but did not deliver. Glad we got a good deal through booking.com otherwise would have been extremely frustrated.
Review 24:Fairly easily accessible from the city centre
Review 25:The housekeeper left the balcony door open and the room was freezing cold. also slight issue the second night. They were hosting a function and I could not have the main menu. bar menu only!? not impressed with that
Review 26:staff were very pleasant
Review 27:I used to stay here regularly a few years ago and really enjoyed the hotel and restaurant. But now it is very run down, restaurant not open on a Saturday evening, quality of breakfast poor - hard/dry bacon, tinned grapefruit segments, crust of bread used for toast, catering portions of butter/preserves, table very wobbly. Internet not working, when I rang reception they conly said that I had the correct name/password and it must be my computer! Cannot recommend anyone to stay here again unless they completely renovate the whole place and upgrade the food/restaurant.
Review 28:Nothing special to note other than location.
Review 29:Hot water was a bit temperamental, breakfast finished quite early and even though it's a very nice hotel, it's quite expensive bearing in mind it's not in the city centre
Review 30:The blonde guy, can't remember his name, at reception was by far the most helpful and polite receptionist person I've ever encountered. Room was very nice and the bed was comfortable and there was a bath. It feels very homely
Review 31:a cramped and tired room. The whole place is in desparate need of renovation. I had to run around in the shower in order to get wet. The evening meal was OK but was served with very soggy vegetables.
Review 32:excellent cooked breakfast.
Review 33:This is a nice easy location for us, on London Road, close to motorway links. Great for the tired traveller. We like its old fashioned, Titanic era style, which need not be updated! Terrific staff and decent breakfast. It is a regular haunt for us when we have to visit friends or go house hunting via Leicester. Decent prices.
Review 34:The first time I put my friend up in this hotel was a number of years ago, and at that time they could not express how much they were impressed with it. It has since changed hands twice I believe, and this time my friend was completely disappointed with almost everything, dirty, and un loved by the current operators, lack of maintenance and upgrading of facilities, reported the shower as not working ! nothing done ! reported the radiator in the bathroom not working nothing done !! Mould in bathroom on tiles and walls. Absolutely disappointed with it, will not book there again. Also insisted on payment up front, which you said would not be required.
Review 35:Location !!
Review 36:comfortable bed, stayed for a night, friendly staff, breakfast was decent- choice of cooked breakfast and the usual buffet of cereals, fruit, yogart. traditional building which was nicely kept. ample parking spaces.
Review 37:My room was above the bar and it was extremely noisy untill about 12.30 on a weds night. The curtains were paper thin.
Review 38:The bedding was clean and so was the the room and bathroom. The location is great
Review 39:Dirty room
Review 40:The room was very dirty. My television didn't work. The bed was uncomfortable and the room unbelievably small. I will not be staying there again.
Review 41:This is a seedy and depressing hotel. Worst of all, we were left alone in the bar one evening with a very drunk guest who verbally abused us. The shower barely delivered any water. There was a heavily stained sofa in our room. Breakfast was OK, but was served without a smile or any friendliness.
Review 42:The location was excellent for visiting our daughter at Leicester University. The reception staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 43:Tepid shower water in room 4. No net curtain so curtains had to be drawn at all times. Worst breakfast I have ever experienced. Grease running round our plates of bacon. Revolting coffee. Unsmiling waitress.
Review 44:Comfortable bed and pleasant room.
Review 45:Stopped one night before i ran the leicester marathon. The room was clean warm comfy bed good tea and coffee facilities and i got a good nights sleep which meant i ran a good marathon.
Review 46:Cold Shower. The receptionist said to run the water for a while for it to become hot but I did this for a long time and it was still cold.
Review 47:Friendly Staff, Comfortable bed, decent breakfast.
Review 48:I found the walls of the room very thin, it was like the man in the next room door was snoring right next to me and his TV woke me at 5.30am which I was able to easily listen too!!
Review 49:The gentleman that greeted me in the evening was very friendly and more than happy to organise a taxi for me which came on time, he even phoned my room to let me know - great service
Review 50:The bathroom in the single room was a little tatty and it was difficult to use the shower due to its placement over the bath and the ornate taps.
Review 51:Friendly and helpful staff. Downstairs rooms were comfortable. Good location and parking.
Review 52:Bit noisy but that's down to it being a Victorian building, with creaky stairs down to breakfast. No vegetarian option for breakfast and the tea and coffee quality was poor.
Review 53:Very friendly and welcoming. Lovely clean, bright and spacious room with everything you needed. Extremely good value, location and plenty of parking.
Review 54:the hotel has seen better days; it needs a little tlc on things like the shower ( water temp and pressure) and(for our room) attention to the balcony!
Review 55:staff were very accommodating, offering take out menus because we were too late for the restaurant.
Review 56:Quite noisy with creaking corridors and opening/shutting doors. The beds were relatively uncomfortable. Breakfast was rushed and thrown on the plate. The place is ok but lacks any sort of finesse.
Review 57:Stunning looking property with an interesting history. Location was easily accessible on the London road. The bar was comfortable and friendly.
Review 58:Door lock didn't work! Desk light didn't work. Rather feeble shower. No draught beers.
Review 59:Helpful staff. Easy 1/2hr walk to citty centre. Excellent breakfast - paoched eggs just right! Easy wi-fi access.
Review 60:The bathroom floor was very slippery, but no bath mat for inside or outside the bath. The hotel is in need of refurbishment.
Review 61:The bed was clean and comfortable. The food was good and the service good.
Review 62:The night stuff member was not helpful. He did not know where the room was. I had to carry my heavy suitcase up 2 flights of stairs. He did not even open the door for me. Bath was dirty. Had hair in it.
Review 63:Morning stuff was good
Review 64:Couldn't sleep all night, could hear next door snoring all night, music playing at 6am in the morning. People knocking on door!
Review 65:The room layout n decor was nice, staff was friendly but looked half alseep
Review 66:Very old room, dirty room, old TV which did not work, no access to staff after 12am, issues with the WIFI internet (no access to both floors!!!)
Review 67:Friendly staff
Review 68:It is regrettable that The Regency does not have a lift/elevator making it unsuitable for w/c. users - as all bedrooms on upper floors accessed by a grand staircase.
Review 69:Frequent returning guest. Lovely period Edwardian building with original features. Interesting history. A proper hotel ie. not 'plastic'. Guest services, excellent. Breakfast & dinner menu, good. Well stocked bar.
Review 70:Smells a lot like curry. Was a real disappointment. Staff were friendly enough but rooms were poky. bathroom clean but a bathtub and just a shower head on a cord.. Water kept running cold. Outdated and needs a real upgrade. Lovely building but run down inside. Would not recommend.
Review 71:Staff were friendly enough and helpful.
Review 72:Very dated, a bit smelly and dirty, room very small
Review 73:Staff were helpfull with Booking.com as only 2 rooms booked by the system, but should have been 3 rooms. Sorted in the end. Breakfast good.
Review 74:Black-out curtains needed in our front bedroom. The pale ones were too thin to cut out much light from the street lights and hotel sign. The bed was too soft for our liking.
Review 75:Our one-night stay coincided with a Murder Mystery evening, so the hotel was crammed and the restaurant wasn't open. However, the staff were extremely helpful, notified us when the bar was free of the visitors and arranged for us to have an evening meal. The next day, breakfast was from 8am but we needed to leave at 7.45. Again the staff made sure we got our full (and very good) cooked breakfast in time.
Review 76:The building itself is magnificent and evocative of former glories - apparently a previous owner lost his life in the Titanic disaster of 1912. In every corridor and room there is history and intrigue.
Review 77:I was traveling alone and even for one person the rooms were very small, granted I only went there to sleep. The walls are practically paper-thin and super permeable which provides no soundproofing from the street noise but not even from the fire doors, banging when they close all night and day by people just walking in and out their rooms. If you are even a little sensitive to noise you must bring earplugs or stay away. The rooms and the building in general are in need of redecoration, it looks and feels old the toilets are small and look patched up. If you can afford a bit more per night, go to something more quiet and newer I'd say.
Review 78:Very helpful staff, I changed two rooms, they were both in immaculate state in terms of cleanliness. Breakfast is OK, bog-standard BnB. Location was good, provided you have a car.
Review 79:Terrible wifi connection in room 32. Paid extra for a superior room that was average. Poor shower pressure. Cold room even in September, but a separate plug in radiator. The bathroom wasn't dirty but the floor could do with more of a thorough mop.
Review 80:We stayed in room 32. Comfortable bed. Nice room with small balcony. Nicely decorated with lots of mirrors. Good help from reception about where to eat out.
Review 81:From the unwelcoming staff reception at check in, the dated decor in the room, creaking flooring, noisy extractor fan in the bathroom, no working central heating, the smell of fried food from the kitchen below, the list goes on. Everything about the Regency Hotel was disappointing, it didn't live up to its name.
Review 82:I struggled to find anything that I liked about this hotel. It is very poorly maintained and run.
Review 83:The condition of the room was pretty run down, and not completely clean. The wifi was slow, and in general I did not think the accommodation was great value for money.
Review 84:The place was ok and the people were friendly. The breakfast was perfectly acceptable.
Review 85:I have stayed at the Regency with my father previously. He has disabilities and is extremely anxious when Accessing new places. He stayed on his own this time And he says that the staff were extremely kind and helped him. He has decided that he wants to Stay at the Regency every time he goes to Worthing to see my sister. That itself is a great testament to the Regency and it's staff. Thankyou for looking after my Dad.
Review 86:everything about this hotel was superb i could not find any reason to complain staff friendly and very helpful all round a pleasant stay and food was served quickly . hot and adequate
Review 87:I was hungry and the kitchen was closed so the manager popped out the back and make a sandwich so I wouldn't have to leave the hotel on my own at night.
Review 88:The room was in big need or repairs... If I wasn't in such a good mood with the results I got Saturday night I would have complained about it but was talked out of it by the mrs..
Review 89:View
Review 90:The hotel caters for contractors and as a result the dining room is not open on Friday, Saturday or Sunday evenings, something they failed to mention until we arrived. Also, on two separate days our room was not cleaned and the bed not made.
Review 91:The hotel was conveniently located for our purpose
Review 92:Long staircase - no lift, but a marvellous heritage building. Staircase could be a problem for people with disabilities, but staff always willing to carry luggage and there is a ramp from car park to ground floor.
Review 93:Regular guest. I would not stay here if it wasn't a hotel with good service. Staff and customer service is consistently good. Authentic Edwardian decor.
Review 94:No problems.
Review 95:Victorian hotel with comfortable bed and good plentiful breakfast. Situated close to Leicester but in a quiet position. Ample car parking.
Review 96:No negatives for us.
Review 97:Lovely characterful building and friendly helpful people. A property of this type takes some serious upkeep and understandably a little tired in places. We had a really good size and comfortable front balcony room. Good location and parking and very convenient for Leicester Races. Good english breakfast items (great bacon). Would stay again. Thankyou!
Review 98:Confusing pricing as my aunts had a tiny twin room for the same price as our queen bed room which was much bigger and more comfortable.
Review 99:Close to the venues we were visiting
Review 100:The entire staff were amazing so very friendly and couldn't do enough for us . We were there to celebrate my daughters graduation and they made it very special and we highly recommend it
Review 101:We did not like having no hot water in the morning and whilst this place has charm, it also lacked some very basic maintenance.
Review 102:We liked how the hotel held its appeal of a bygone age. It was almost the grand Budapest hotel. Almost. A charming building and friendly, helpful staff.
Review 103:My wife and I have been 4 times in recent months. Breakfast is not a pleasant experience. The waitress is unfriendly, and you can hear her shouting in the kitchen when you are having breakfast. Each time, we wonder if the tinned grapefruit will be "fizzy", as it was once. It looked a little brown this time, so my wife avoided it. The coffee is left to stew on the heater - unless you come early for breakfast, there will not be a nice cup of coffee.
Review 104:TV did not work - loose wire. Dead flies in bath-room light fitting, Sugar not replenished
Review 105:Location convenient to Leicester City Centre on bus route. Price.
Review 106:10 mins walk to local shops but that was OK
Review 107:nice staff..new carpet and clean room. bus stop in front of the hotel and direct to the centre and train station,,10 mins only out side the traffic jam nice hotel
Review 108:The Staff were amazing. I am suffering with a bad back this week and the staff were great. Carried my small bag to the room. Took my food order from the table and brought over a couple of drinks. I would like the manager to read this review to them and appreciate what assets they have.
Review 109:Smaller hotel. Good selection of evening meals served in the bar. I had a lasagne with salad and garlic bread.
Review 110:TV had very poor reception I had the only room with an ariel and could not get any channels I was offered another room but was put off by a noisy aircon unit below
Review 111:Had a large bar and lounge area and lots of character.
Review 112:The breakfast was excellent. Coffee, tea and biscuits were provided in the rooms.. The hot chocolate was a welcome suprise. Nice towels and adequate toiletries. spare pillowcase and the single bed was spacious.
Review 113:Easy to find hotel with free on-site parking. Comfortable clean room with opening windows! Breakfast cooked to order. Friendly staff. Pleasant bar was a good meeting point.
Review 114:Only slight problem is that our room and several others opened straight onto the landing/ stairs and being old didn't offer much noise muffling from outside.
Review 115:Great Staff and great location for us with a car, with a huge car park. Nicely decorated just a little dated in places and creaky plumbing - but part of the charm with a old Victorian place! Good standard English hotel cooked breakfast and also a buffet to get fruit and cereal from.
Review 116:Breakfast things a bit grubby. Laminated menu on table just needed wiping over. Tables being cleared had things put back on side for re-use.
Review 117:Good size room, as single thought it might be small but had small double bed.
Review 118:Good room with decent shower and facilities. Good food at a very reasonable price. Friendly staff and a good bar. Overall very good value for what I paid.
Review 119:toilet in room 2 was damaged and shower control very stiff still good accommodation though
Review 120:really good no complaints good value and clean and comfortable excellent hot breakfast too.
Review 121:No evening meal available. No lift not disable friendly. Stairs should have two hand rails and more light. Room very small, could do with updating
Review 122:Good parking
Review 123:- English breakfast was a bit bland - the room was comfortable although a bit old. But, bizarrely, the carpet was so thick that it was difficult to open or close the door. A small and frail person could have real difficulty getting in an out of the room.
Review 124:- the public areas of the hotel are spacious and comfortable - bar with beer garden - lots of parking space - the location is good for those just spending the night while traveling (like me), but also not too far from city center
Review 125:Room 17 seemed bright and airy and had a new carpet but on returning to the room at 23:00 I discovered beetles and carpet moths gathering in the large bay window. The curtains, which also seemed newish, didn't keep out the hotel's flood lights so these two things were not conducive for a good night's sleep.
Review 126:Attentive service, plain food but well cooked, hotel seemed clean, free wifi and rooms from £50.
Review 127:Dining room and furnishings are a bit tired but clean
Review 128:Location to city centre and road systems. Helpful staff, good selection for breakfast. Comfortable bed, clean linens and bathroom.
Review 129:Drunk neighbors shouting and slamming doors all night long two of the nights. Staff was not that welcoming. Restaurant in evening overpriced, average food at best.
Review 130:Room was nice, breakfast was good too.
Review 131:We loved the staff that run the business! It was amazing they were all so friendly and the vibe of the hotel is homely and wonderful. I'd definitely stay there again!!!
Review 132:I was told food was available from 7pm I prefer to eat around 6pm so had to go somewhere else to find food.
Review 133:As a solo female traveller I felt comfortable I had an excellent wifi signal Although old, effort had been made to ensure cleanliness in the rooms and ensuite
Review 134:bed was horrible, toilet would not flush properly, TV initially didn't work and the room had wallpaper and paint peeling off!
Review 135:wifi, pleasant staff, free parking
Review 136:Room 6 bathroom is tiny. TV in room did not appear to work but was not really an issue for us.
Review 137:Very comfy bed. Great bar prices. Smashing breakfast. Handily placed on main road, bus routes etc.
