Reviews for Hotel Var Kastelyszallo
Review 1:Shower felt a bit small and cramped. One of the towels had a stain on it. Wifi unfortunately did not work. There is free public wifi in Visegrád but the signal for that is very weak in the hotel, so that wasn't really a viable backup plan either.
Review 2:Very nice location on the Danube river bank, close to the start of the footpath going to the castle. Great selection of hot breakfast.
Review 3:The attic rooms are quite small but still tidy and quiet.
Review 4:The friendly personnel is absolutely amazing. It is a great place to stay if you want to enjoy the beautiful scenery and relax for a couple of days.
Review 5:The hotel rooms seem to be a little hit and miss with what you get. Ours badly needed a refurbishment as there was limescale and loose wiring in the bathroom. No airconditioning. VIsegrad seems to be a day tripper town rather than an overnight stay sort of place.
Review 6:Good location below the citadel hill on the river, staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast is cold buffet and then hot food to order. Parking on site albeit cramped. The price for the room was very cheap so can't complain.
Review 7:Small dusty room ,shower screen & carpet was dirty &tile broken on the floor not our best room in Hungary
Review 8:Rooms were short in the area &we got the last room in town mall loft room with the torn blind.
Review 9:Only thing I would have like more was being able to have more vegan variety for breakfast and maybe a soya latte. I could only really have the bread and jam and tea. But even those I have to say I enjoyed very much. The strawberry jam was lovely! Oh and maybe a room kettle but maybe you don't get those in Hungary because the other hotel didn't either.
Review 10:Excellent view, location, cleanliness, friendly helpful staff, décor, overall comfortable ambience. It was a perfect place for a wedding party to whizz around being stressed and nutty. The hotel did nothing to make anything worse and I think that is no small thing given the way hotels usually present some kind of problem. I think they probably helped the key wedding members in various ways too.
Review 11:I stayed for 4 nights and found it a little strange that in this time no effort was made to clean my room, make the bed, change the towels.. maybe that's normal practice in Hungary? I didn't want to give English guests a bad name, so I didn't ask...and I can make my own bed - but it would have been nice to at least have the bins emptied and the floor swept during my stay.
Review 12:The helpful friendly staff, the general ambience of the place, the extremely comfortable bed, the excellent freshly prepared to order breakfast, the generous dinners, the amazing value of the half board deal in general..
Review 13:did not like the sheets and towels + shower had a lot of lime deposits on it from the water
Review 14:nice staff, good location, breakfast was ok, could be improved by adding fresh fruit & vegetables to choose from
Review 15:Front Desk Staff was somewhat rude and very indifferent to giving us the wrong room. We had reserved two rooms, one with a river view but they had given it to someone else. The woman told us we hadn't reserved the view room but I insisted that she pull our reservation and, what a surprise, indeed we had! We were put in a "traditional" room which was very small and had a broken shower head holder, and given no compensation for the mistake. As Americans we felt like second class citizens. This is the ONLY place in all of Hungary that we felt this way. In all other places we were welcomed and valued! I would not stay here again or recommend it. There is nothing friendly or remotely nice about Hotel Var. There is a much nicer hotel just up the road a bit, go there!
Review 16:Location
Review 17:Nothing!
Review 18:Great hotel - held with care and real passion, beautiful localization, friendly staff. Absolutely fantastic atmosphere, breakfasts with the sounds of Édith Piaf voice - keep it up!
Review 19:We had booked an attic room which was dreadful - so tiny there was no room to put our luggage, the skylight didn't open and was covered by a broken blind so we couldn't see out, also the shower was dirty. At 52 Euro a night plus tax was not value for money.
Review 20:The breakfast was very good, excellent omelettes. Fairly convenient for the town, parking space.
Review 21:No elevator.
Review 22:Love the place! Nice facilities, comfortable room.
Review 23:Extremely helpful staff
Review 24:The weather was a bit cool in the room
Review 25:Super friendly staff, great location, beautiful building.
Review 26:comfort of bed
Review 27:nothing special, but a good historic hotel
Review 28:Staff helpful friendly Room view over the Danube Felt like a step back in time lovely old building beautiful setting
Review 29:The location was perfect, the river cruises and the museum were right there..easy walk into town.
Review 30:Lovely location, clean, big room.
Review 31:Friendly staff Good location Nice breakfast
Review 32:Internet fair on top floor Skylight blind could do with some attention
Review 33:Nicely presented Good value restaurant Great breakfast
Review 34:The room was not so clean, bed was uncomfortable, poor breakfast
Review 35:Good location, can be considered as stop by one nights.
Review 36:Not enough space for parking.
Review 37:Good location by the Danube and under the castle. Nice wellnes.
Review 38:Wonderful peaceful location, good breakfast and supper menu. Easy to walk along river front into village.
Review 39:Hotel is next to the Renaissance restaurant, which plays loud and horrible eurotrash music until about 10 pm.
Review 40:Hotel has a small pool and a restaurant. A fan was available.
Review 41:Unfriendly staff, hotel mentions about having all the facilities but they have none. No internet, the swimming pools is the size of a bathtub and the rooms are small and not cozy.
Review 42:Location was perfect
Review 43:The first thing we notice while checking in to the hotel was the stern greeting from the owner, this didn't improve even when we were leaving. The next problem we had was that we picked a attic room (which was mostly our mistake) and it was melting hot all night which made it very difficult to sleep.
Review 44:The hotel was fine, in a good location and was ideal for us as it on our bike route of the Danube. The price was also a good part of this hotel. We got a hot breakfast which we hadn't seen for a while, so we really enjoyed this. There is free safe parking for cars and bikes.
Review 45:Very poor service: they answer to your questions but do absolutely nothing more. You feel like disturbing them all the time (except one of the maid who was nice). The boss does nothing but stand outside smoking (when he's not too lazy and smokes inside...), not speaking or even looking at you. Breakfast is fat and not very good, yogurts stay out during hours every morning and they are starting to be sour when you take them. Spa (advertised on the hotel description) was closed without prior notice, probably due to the date early in the season (but you don't want to ask them anything anyway...). Room was noisy because the hotel is right in front of the road and the windows insulation is poor. Walls are thin, you hear your neighbors very well. Don't go there.
Review 46:Visegrad is a nice quiet village.
Review 47:The personal was really king and helped us a lot with advices.
Review 48:Good location, near Salomon Tower
Review 49:broken shower
Review 50:good view
Review 51:Excellent for a one night stay.
Review 52:Location is very good.
