Reviews for Hodson Bay Hotel

Review 1:I ordered the chicken curry with Naan bread, (in the bar) I was given a pompadom instead as there was no naan bread and this was not explained until I questioned it. I should have been told in advance & checked that I still wished to go ahead with that order.

Review 2:The leisure centre facilities were excellent, well maintained, spotless. There are fantastic hydrotherapy facilities. The staff throughout were very helpful and professional except for one minor blip re my food order in the bar.

Review 3:Nothing

Review 4:Lovely hotel in a fantastic location , level of lake was very high but it was business as usual in the hotel . Meal in the restaurant was excellent but the staff serving made it special , we were looked after very well

Review 5:Hotel surroundings were flooded, room was adequate but very small and old fashioned, we saw the new and modern part of the hotel, but we didn't get a room there...noise from corridor was very audible

Review 6:Had to park at golf club due to flooding, however staff made every effort to assist us getting to hotel via bus without delays.

Review 7:Staff very professional and made us very welcome. Food excellent and great value for money. Child friendly.

Review 8:I found our bed felt damp, and it was the next day I noticed my pillow had mould on it..

Review 9:I had a fantastic time at my friends wedding here, food and staff was fantastic.

Review 10:Overall our stay was nice. The bed wasnt all that comfortable, didn't have a great nights sleep. The walls in the room are rather thin....could hear the guest next door walking around in the toilet the morning.

Review 11:Had both lunch and dinner here in the bar.The food was very nice. We both had Fish & Chips for dinner....fish was delicious. The staff were all very helpful. The access to the leisure facilities was fantastic. Came to relax and that's what we certainly did....would come back just for the pool!

Review 12:Beautiful remote area with such a relaxing setting .. Away from the town but not too far ... Very suitable for couples on a quiet getaway .. Very impressed

Review 13:No way to order room service, cleaners knocked on door while we were asleep. Room not ready when we tried to check in and we told we would be prioritised, an hour and half later I had to go back to reception to get the key

Review 14:Location

Review 15:Steam room not on Benches in sauna too hot to sit on

Review 16:Staff so helpful from reception desk restaurant leisure centre Location well signposted Easy to find

Review 17:The room staff banging on our door at 9.30am in the morning and we where fast asleep and if that wasn't bad enough to come back 20 minutes later, also room key didn't work after walking to the room, rooms are a bit dated also.

Review 18:Room very nice but carpet very badly stained with sticky stains. Know probably previous guests but off-putting a little.

Review 19:Conference facilities excellent. Spacious and comfortable. Warm.

Review 20:Maybe a little bottle of water in room would be good for us that need to take medication or just thirstyw

Review 21:Such a great location, staff extremely helpful food is great

Review 22:I asked for a room with a view of the bay which shouldnt of been hard as I booked a good month in advance and the bay is infront of the whole front of hotel. My room cost €140 for one night (not including breakfast) it was loacted on the ground floor with a narrow window that looked out to the side of the building facing some bushes and also facing a seating area inside the hotel. This meant we had no privacy and would have to keep our curtains closed for privacy.I felt a bit ripped off money wise as I had very high hopes for a lovely room with a nice view to wake up to and never did I expect that when I woke up I would have to keep my curtains still closed just so people couldnt see in.

Review 23:View of bay from outside of the hotel and food was good

Review 24:Hotel beautiful , staff excellent service fantastic.we had a lovely time at this hotel it's highly maintained and the food is very good would recommend this hotel anytime for us it would be 10 it of 10

Review 25:at breakfast our tea and toast arrived . we went up to get our breakfast and when we came back to our table our table was cleared and there was another couple seated at it. which resulted in us having to find another table and order more tea and toast.

Review 26:very relaxing .Food was lovely

Review 27:A fictitious bar bill was added to my bill. My charge in any case was greater than the corporate rate, and did not include breakfast.45 minute wait for drink in bar...it goes on.

Review 28:The grounds and lake.

Review 29:Asked for quite room and initially wasn't given one. Requested room change and got a lovely room then in quite wing of hotel. But was very frustrated with reception initially.

Review 30:Air con unit outside the windows kept us awake all night. Raised it with reception but the person just took a note and gave no apology or offer of gratuity.

Review 31:We were there for a wedding. Great atmosphere and almost perfect service. We were able to access the room early which was beneficial as we had travelled from London at 430 am that morning

Review 32:Room very warm and air conditioning difficult to regulate, appeared to be controlled externally! Disliked not being able to open windows fully , although wouldn't have been an issue if we were able to regulate the aircon. Very skimpy with the toiletries,1 little body wash ! I'm sure however if we had requested anything from reception they would have obliged, but shouldn't have needed to (4* superior room )

Review 33:Very pleasant and welcoming reception, upgraded to retreat room which was great. Very comfortable large bed , lovely view of golf course and lake. Nice spacious quiet room , everything catered for . Bar food very good, waitress very pleasant however service wasn't great at first. , had to go to the bar to get menu and ask for some service. Leisure facilities looked great and if you avail of what's on offer then this is good value and if you get an upgrade even better because €98 midweek for one night room only is bit steep .

Review 34:Was family friendly... Many children.

Review 35:Location, condition, comfort, quiet. Location is spectacular. One side lake view, the other side golf course view. Good food, friendly staff. Pool, spa, golf course, marina...

Review 36:It was too expensive. I payed €140 for one night, single room without any breakfast. Plus I was a wedding guest. Staff weren't great serving the wedding.

Review 37:Beds were comfy and the food was nice.

Review 38:Everything good, but you do need a car for this country location (nearest village some miles away). could do with some outside benches to sit and enjoy the excellent view.

Review 39:The walls in the bedroom are like paper so we were kept awake with noise all nite and the pillows and bed were so uncomfortable. Overall very dissapointed.

Review 40:No walks around lake from hotel. Small room. Limited access to lake/lake surrounds.

Review 41:Nice location but badly designed - no proper views of lake from rooms (just v small windows). Excellent food and service.

Review 42:We felt that the bar food was not really up to the standard we thought we would receive.

Review 43:The room we had was superb: most comfortable bed and a first class en suite. A magically quick internet connection.

Review 44:Bathwater a strange brown color. Reported to management.

Review 45:Excellent value. Lovely location and large, comfortable room with view of lake. Beautiful grounds with lots of outdoor entertainment options.

Review 46:Meeting Family for suprise get together. On check in requested to join there table and specifically asked to be marked in. When it came time for dinner, there was a mix up and staff member told us we'd have to sit at separate table. Eventually we were able to pull tables together, this we feel could have be done initially and avoided any embarrassment. The Bar closed early with no late residents bar leaving our group on family break away with an anti climax to our stay.

Review 47:Location. Most of the Staff extremely helpful, courteous and a credit to the company. Water Activities next to Hotel, this is a must.

Review 48:The only way to get to the town if you don't have a car is by taxi , which costs about 12 euros (or boat trip, once a day but unsuitable in rain). The room overlooked a rooftop under which some noisy device such as central air conditioning (we couldn't see what it was) was in operation all the time and could be heard even with the window closed. As a result we had to keep the window closed and use the air conditioning when the room got too warm, leading to more noise. The wifi was not working anywhere in the hotel during our stay, which led to our having to cancel the remainder of our stay. The hotel is do doubt a good place to stay for families with young children but I would not recommend it for a mature couple looking for a quiet break.

Review 49:The beds were very comfortable.

Review 50:We've stayed in Hudson a few times & were very fortunate to have a nice comfortable room on the new side of the building. For the first time we experienced a room in the old part of the building. There was no bathroom fan, shower is over the bathtub and shower-curtain in the way when trying to shower. The room was very warm and clammy with no air-conditioning. There was a dial on the wall but not sure what it was for (heat perhaps?). We were very tired after playing 18 holes & no chance of catching some sleep with doors banging every side of us & a baby crying. (It was late noon & hadn't requested quiet room, therefore this is a minor dislike). Our bed was possibly too soft (we are used to the orthopaedic bed, so perhaps I'm being a bit harsh?). Shortage of fried eggs at breakfast time.

Review 51:The bar is always welcoming and comfortable and provided live music on Friday night. There was a good atmosphere & the food was nice. We usually eat in the restaurant and food here is always great. Bar staff are all very friendly and pleasant, as were the breakfast staff and reception.

Review 52:The staff at the bar and bar restaurant let the overall service down. They take forever to do anything, and one person at a till answered two phone calls while I was left waiting each time, all to pay for a cup of coffee.

Review 53:No 'bad' experience but would have been nice to have some type of entertainment in the evening.i.e on Thursday night nothing happening. Spa -shame there is no facility for having treatments at days notice.difficult to decide months ahead what you feel like15e for hour for use of spa not good value.

Review 54:The very clever room organisations ,giving adults who were ➖ children the lovely quiet location of new build and families in main hotel allowing them to have children in bed close by if they were in the bar.general ambiance .food great.

Review 55:They offer a laundry service and although the washing was clean it took 2 attempts to get all of it back (only 4 pieces) and it was returned screwed up in a bag. This was the only bad thing.

Review 56:Friendly and helpful staff, excellent breakfast and generally good bar meals. Good location in an easy centre for travelling around.

Review 57:couldent find any negatives.

Review 58:Staff pleasant and helpful, location great, food good, music in the bar on a wednesday night a nice surprise, great to see the hotel so busy.

Review 59:Horrendously slow service in the bar for drink or food and with clearing tables. However the food quality was excellent & the staff were very pleasant all round. Maybe I stayed on a very busy night.I would certainly like to try again and see them do better on service.

Review 60:Great location and value for money. Hotel is excellent for families and fishing parties. With golf course next door too.

Review 61:Location. The room in the new section was excellent. Everything was clean and well run. The leisure centre was lovely and the breakfast outstanding. I will be returning with friends.

Review 62:We were in the new glass part of the hotel and it was very warm. The air con went off at night and came on again in the morning. It was difficult to sleep

Review 63:The location and the food was excellent

Review 64:I chose to indulge, and spend a considerable amount more on this hotel than the hotels in the town centre, I regretted this decision as the hotel does not offer any extra (if not less) luxury or benefits in comparison. Staff made no effort in welcoming or giving information upon arrival. Considering the high price for bed & breakfast, the restaurant is too expensive, with a limited range on offer. Room (169) was dark.

Review 65:The room was very warm with no means of adjusting it from within. Difficulty sleeping compounded by a fan or machine of some sort humming incessantly outside window (first floor room).

Review 66:The hotel is in a beautiful, scenic location, easy to find with mapping app. The staff were all friendly and polite in all areas of the hotel I visited. The food in the bar was of very good quality.

Review 67:Very slow food in bar and check in slow ,bar staff not that interested in me,20 mns to order and 25 mns for rare steak ,don't blame staff as very busy but management should have catered to this as this crowd was not unexpected

Review 68:Location,parking ,breakfast

Review 69:Really need to brush up on cleaniness. Had a drink in the conservatory. The table we sat at had a glass top. And while there a spider was setting up home. Windows through out are filthy, bird droppings ect. And more spiders than i care to see.(not to mention the nesting in the bathroom) Cleaning staff didn't even hover our room. Grounds could also be better maintained. left my wallet behind. And the earliest they could post it out was Tues. So had to drive bk for it.

Review 70:Restaurant food was fab. Lovely, friendly staff. Plenty to do for children and adults. Great location

Review 71:I really could not fault a thing !!

Review 72:spa facilities fabulous , very relaxing , staff throughout hotel were very accommodating . pool facilities top class, bedroom very spacious & comfortable & lovely deep bath tub !!!

Review 73:On both the Friday and Saturday nights, the hotel bar was inaccessible due to two weddings spilling over into the bar out of the function room, which made it impossible for a resident to get a drink even to sit in the foyer. In addition on the Saturday, the smoking area was designated for the use of the wedding only, which forced customers to smoke at the front of the hotel with no shelter. (it did, of course, rain)

Review 74:We stayed in the Housing Bay for a friend's birthday party. The staff were excellent, and the hotel was beautiful, with fantastic grounds and plenty of facilities for children.

Review 75:The only drawback about the bedroom was that there wasn't a jug of water at hand.Limited number of television channels.

Review 76:Good location for a conference, due to it's relatively central position in Ireland. Staff were very courteous.

Review 77:The bedroom was a let down. It was dated and tired and plain for this standard of hotel. Carpet was worn and torn and smelled damp.

Review 78:Location was stunning and the hotel looked good outside and in the public areas downstairs.

Review 79:At the start found it hard to fine

Review 80:Ah i had such a relaxing time food was excellent plenty to choose from at breakfast think it was the best i have ever seen, also there was a girl there the whole time looking after it always plenty to eat. Room nice and big great wend

Review 81:The hotel was clean and free parking was a nice bonus, although if a function is going on finding a space might be tough as carpark not that big. Room was tight with a travel cot but manageable for amount of time spent in it. Very basic, no toiletries or tea and biscuits which was a shame, and the breakfast was absolutely not worth the steep €15 each. Nice local cafes on the doorstep are a much better option.

Review 82:Children playing football up and down the stairs at reception. Room was dusty with greasy smears on the windows. Stairwells were dirty. Had to send back the food at the bar as it was terrible.Really sad and disappointed as we had booked this hotel to relax in and enjoy, but it all just seemed to miss the mark.

Review 83:View out of the window was fabulous, room was a lovely big size.

Review 84:Had to laugh at another couple who went up to pay their restaurant bill before me ... "We won't be back, the food is too exspensive" he said with a grumpy tone, he couldn't be more wrong in my opinion .. Food in restaurant is top class and a lovely warm atmosphere and is very well priced for the quality... I'd def go here for a meal even if I wasn't resident ...

Review 85:Restaurant

Review 86:Nothing to dislike except the awful weather !

Review 87:Thanks to Rory and Diarmuid and all the reception staff who kept ice packs for me in kitchen freezer which I needed to treat an arm injury I had .Also the manager of the hotel who always remembers us on our return visits .

Review 88:Was quite expensive for staying over for one night! Prices could have been a bit better but apart from this, we really enjoyed our stay!

Review 89:Everything was fantastic!

Review 90:On arrival receptionist could not find my booking even when I gave her the correct booking ref number. She had to make a phone call and have it confirmed. Then she said I was booked in for one night I advised her two nights. She make yet another phone call to have this confirmed. This took up over 20 minutes of my time. This dissapointed me.

Review 91:Location and Room

Review 92:Stayed with a disabled friend, who nearly got knocked over several times by impatient rushing staff. They kept squeezing past him rapidly when he was was on crutches, just couldn't wait. The wifi is useless. It kept disconnecting and was totally unreliable.

Review 93:The view of the Bay is excellent. An impressive looking venue, with good bar meals. The restaurant food is excellent, but very pricey.

Review 94:I didn't like the colour of the bath water. Also too much cream/dairy and salt in the food at both dinners.

Review 95:Great location and excellent staff. Luvly hotel. Quite room. Very clean and comfortable.

Review 96:Not a bad experience but would recommend that when booking a taxi that you give plenty of notice!!! Also check out the price beforehand. A bit pricey in my opinion.

Review 97:Asked for a quiet room and was delighted .that we were on the fourth floor. No noise and very little guest traffic. Amazing, as the hotel was full at the time.Would recommend to the mature couples

Review 98:I think you could have more vegetarian main courses in the bar food. Even if it was an offer of an omelette with a choice of veg ingredients or a pizza with veg toppings. It's n better than other lesser hotels. Thanks.

Review 99:There wasn't a quiet place to sit and read and have a drink, the bar was full for a function and I felt very much that the price for one person was high (116 for me and a couple paid 140)I had to pay extra for breakfast and the dining room was very crowded and not relaxing.

Review 100:Location was fantastic, the room was very spacious and had a nice view, the rooms were quiet ,and warm and the bathroom was huge!

Review 101:We enjoyed Andreas Sommelier wine tasting evening along with evening meal in restaurant . We also enjoyed your leisure facility's Great enjoyable stay . Recommendations for others .

Review 102:We attended a friends wedding and everything from start to finish was perfect. I know a lot of this had to do with our friend but everything about the hodson bay was very relaxing and beautiful

Review 103:Nothing bad

Review 104:Service was excellent , the staff were lovely . Surrounding area is beautiful , foof was good and the bar area cosy and comfortable . Entertainment too

Review 105:Were staying in the bar all evening from about 4pm - were asked about 10 times had we paid for food or drinks - made feel like we were trying to rob the place! Reception staff not overly friendly on arrival.

Review 106:Value for money was good, bar staff were friendly

Review 107:It was hectic for breakfast on last day girl was overwhelmed needed more help large group of people checked in previous day and there kids were running wild on the buffet and not suitably dressed for breakfast somebody had used our room number to have breakfast girl was not surprised when I told her there was only two of us

Review 108:Location facilities staff quality of food

Review 109:Dinner menu was very limited. Hotel was extremely warm, too hot for all day business meetings. Bedroom was also terribly warm and as i was on 3rd floor the window only opened a small bit. Bathroom was quite small and the door handle caught my shirt twice, nasty. Very busy on the 2 days i was there and car parking was difficult.

Review 110:Pleasant hotel, friendly staff, great location.

Review 111:Make sure to collect your paper from outside your room door Early!

Review 112:Excellent room (we got free upgrade), food and service was first-class, leisure facilities was very enjoyable. We'll be back.

Review 113:I was told at check-in that I had only one bedroom booked. I had to havea receipt from bookings.com emailed to the hotel showing that I had twobooked .I had to ask for another room when this error occurred and wasnot offered a replacement. The hotel was far too hot all over, whichmade sleeping and relaxing almost impossible..

Review 114:The hotel is lovely and comfortable with beautiful bedrooms, bars andrestaurants.

Review 115:The reception staff weren't helpful at all, we had to ask for everything, times of dinner and breakfast( we had breakfast included) where was the room located... Small things that make the difference

Review 116:The location is really good, the food was great, both the bar and breakfast, the room was comfortable. The staff in the bar were really nice

Review 117:Our room was beside a lift that was going all night and in a high traffic area so we had children running up and down the corridor singing late at night and early morning. Hotel was packed and felt claustrophobic.

Review 118:Staff were pleasant and helpful. Room was small but clean.

Review 119:When we checked in our room wasn't ready (there is a 4.30pm checkin time which is quite late but we had notified them by email that we would arrive between 2-3pm with a baby). They took my number and said they would get the room attendants to clean it straight away-an hour later, no call, returned to the reception desk to hear the room still wasn't ready! A disappointing start to the break.

Review 120:The food was good with several options available. Breakfast good too.

Review 121:The only problem and it's stretching it to call a problem was that we couldn't get the WiFi working properly. That could have been the tablet rather than their WiFi so as I said it's a minor complaint.

Review 122:Facilities, room, view, location, staff, food, cleanliness, comfort everything was fantastic. We'd be back in a heartbeat.

Review 123:Not enough parking for guests. The heat in the bar/restaurant very very uncomfortable. Not a great selection on bar menu.Very restless night sleep as "fans" on the roof below kept us awake.

Review 124:Pleasant staff.Beautiful views, nice location. Pretty hotel with good breakfast.

Review 125:Everything lovely except bit of trouble parking and just odd that no bottled water in hotel room!

Review 126:Location. Extreme helpfulness and general friendliness of staff. Food and atmosphere lovely and St valentine's was really well done but not over the top!

Review 127:The lobby could do with a makeover.. Couches are too far apart and it's not cosy. It's too open ..

Review 128:The bar and it's menu and the view of the bay.

Review 129:Everything was great lovely staff v friendly . food was great . Good buz in the bar live music Saturday night had a nice swim in the mornings left the gym alone too much Guinness the night before

Review 130:The fact that the aircon/heating was so noisy. Even though I turned mine off, I was still disturbed by the noise of it coming from the rooms next door. I found it hard to relax in my room because of the noise. I prefer hotels that use blissfully silent radiator heating! It would put me off staying in the Hodson Bay again although in every other way it is an excellent hotel.

Review 131:The staff were very friendly and helpful. I had mentioned in chatting that I had a cold coming on and when I was leaving the bar the barman gave me a glass of blackcurrant loaded with lemon and suggested I add boiling water from the kettle in my room when I was about to go asleep. It was very thoughtful of him and worked a treat!

Review 132:poor wi fi credit card machine at front desk rejected my card (with a queue behind me) but when I checked card with bank there was no problem. Bank said it was definitely the reception desk machine in the hotel that was wrong. Embarrased at the reception desk!

Review 133:room food wine tasting leisure centre

Review 134:The only thing is that the rooms where the parents and children slept was a little to small but we did not ask for a larger rooms when booking. our room was a fabulous large room overlooking golf course

Review 135:We were really so pleased with the facilities and the friendliness of all the staff for our group of 6 adults and 3 children Particularly the fabulous treatment our little girls received from the time we arrieved until our departure Take a bow staff many thanks
