Reviews for Oscar's Hostel

Review 1:- not much of "communal" area except for the pool table. (didn't get much of a chance to meet others)

Review 2:- within walking distance to center - had a pool table and a kitchen - comfortable beds

Review 3:Triple room for 3 people (no couple) consisted of a bunk bed with a small double bed (120cm) and a regular single bed on top (90cm). Very small room with max 6sqm. Everything was very basic and downsized to the technical functionalities. Overall disappointing experienc

Review 4:Nothing much really. The location was acceptable not not as central as assumed. The cleanliness sufficed the minimum acceptable requirements.

Review 5:No hot water in sink in bathroom No towels Bunk bed in room thin mattress Shower too high up Water in shower turns on and off so very hard to wash hair

Review 6:Best kitchen in a hostel ever. Very clean Near train station Staff very nice and helpful when they could Ensuite bathroom

Review 7:- Overpriced. - Bathroom not bigger than a shoebox. - Deceptive pictures on website. - Dirty, hairy bathroom. - Dirty, hairy bathroom still after second cleaning (was there even a first cleaning?). - Cold atmosphere.

Review 8:- Leaving before move-in

Review 9:We had a private room with private bath. Boogers on the wall next to the bed from some disgusting person that stayed there before us. No towels provided except a bath mat. Walls are very thin. You can hear people below and above from inside the room and the stairway is very loud. No room numbers on the key cards meant we had drunk people keep trying to come into our room around 2 am. Shower was push button that only lasted about 10 seconds. Have to keep pushing the button a hundred times to take a proper shower. Bathroom sink faucets were loose and hot water faucet not working. Someone came to clean our room around noon and we told them to come back in an hour, they said that was not possible, so it didn't get done.

Review 10:Close to center if you have a bike. Good sized kitchen with three or four refrigerators.

Review 11:There was no free parking available near the hostel. You had to come back every two hours to buy a new one. The beds were not comfortable and the room and bath were very small.

Review 12:The room was clean and tidy. There was free Wifi abailable. There was a kitchen with cooking facilities.

Review 13:Everything about the triple room I stayed in looked quite more spacious in the photos than what it really was... I can confirm that the bathroom's light sensors are not working in the shower and you will be at some point washing in the dark, however that's easily solved by opening and closing the shower door :)

Review 14:Location! Only a few minutes from the train station (also very close to the bus station) and a short, safe walk to the city centre.

Review 15:There rooms lacked insulation and sound proofing - the noise that people made coming up and down the stairs was really loud and you can hear furniture moving and people talking in the room above ours. Also the lights in the bathroom were motion-sensored, but the sensors didn't seem to reach to the shower, so there's a high chance you'll be showering in the dark.

Review 16:It was newly renovated so the decor was clean and pleasant. It is really close to the train station, so the location was handy for making little trips out of Cork.

Review 17:The wifi didn't really work and when it did it was quite slow. The beds were also quite hard.

Review 18:The staff were very friendly and approachable. Even though we were a big group of students, the staff were very friendly and helpful and we had no problems. The kitchen and dining room area was also very nice.

Review 19:The stuff - very friendly & helpful. Everything was clean, we could store the luggage in the reception when we had to checkout. It was a great time!

Review 20:Bathroom shower had no function to change temp, but it was fine and warm. Sound can be a bit of an issue but not major.

Review 21:The place felt very secure, with cameras and key cards keeping an eye on everything. It was a Saturday night and it was very quiet in comparison to what i was expecting. Staff are helpful and friendly and its only a small walk back past the train station into town (altho we opted for a taxi for 10quid to the pub scene). Kitchen, sitting room and dining area all looked decent and clean. Beds are fine and strong confomtable for 3 persons.

Review 22:Bed linens were very clean - actually looked brand new!! but the mattresses are pretty hard :-( more than one/two nights would be my max stay for that reason. En suite small ok for 2/or for guys but a tight spot for two girls to get ready in :-) P.S. a full length mirror would be great ;-) !!But overall a positive experience.

Review 23:place was extremely clean, ensuite small but again it was spotless- staff very welcoming - great decor - good location - as we came on a sat we could park on the street for free that night (otherwise you buy a parking disc - in any nearby shop). Ideal spot if you just need a bed for the night and shower. we had a private en suite triple (double with a single bunk overhead) would be very cramped for 3 adults if staying more than one night bathroom is very compact and for two girls there was jostling for the mirror. We didn't use the kitchen but again that was very well appointed with modern clean appliances. Very Funky cool spot.

Review 24:Size and hardness of beds Noise, not enough noise reduction on doors and stairs and walls etc. too thin.

Review 25:Decor and refurbishment well done recently. Kitchen new and fairly good Wifi good

Review 26:I didn't like the space in our room. It felt like we were in a shoebox. The room would be better suited to a twin bunk bed versus the triple. We had to co-ordinate our moves.

Review 27:Everything is new. Place looks like it has just opened. We didn't need to use the kitchen during our stay but in comparison to ones available in other hostels it was very good.

Review 28:The stairs - but Akif kindly carried my bag up! Didn't see "Oscar".

Review 29:The kitchen and equipment The staff (reading some other reviews where it said the staff weren't friendly, we certainly didn't find this - they were very helpful)

Review 30:Staff weren't that friendly and the hostel lacked a welcoming and family atmosphere. People didn't tend to socialise in the downstairs communal areas, instead staying in their rooms. Very noisy later on in the evening due to floorboards not carpet, with very thin walls. Beds very hard! I would recommend this hostel to people wanting somewhere clean and modern to stay, but not to young travellers wanting to meet people/ social scene. very expensive for what you got!

Review 31:Great location to the train station- literally a 2 minute walk. Little further out of town than hoped, but not really a problem to walk in- probably a 10 minute walk. Great facilities- good kitchen and clean lounge areas/ bathrooms.

Review 32:Hot water is cold for the first few minutes and then super hot!

Review 33:Great location outside Cork train station and bus stops nearby, 5-10 mins walk to the town center. Helpful staff, everything looks new and is clean. Rooms are basic, just a bed with en suite toilet and shower, but we know it's a hostel and it is fine for us

Review 34:My four friends and I arrived from the other side of Ireland to stay at Oscar's Hostel ahead of Lana Del Rey's performance at the Marquee Cork. We arrived in Cork shortly after 2.30pm on July 15th and decided to see if we could check-in and head into the city. When we arrived at Oscar's door, we were barely greeted. I handed the man there my booking, only to be left standing in silence for a good ten minutes as he conversed in another language with his co-worker. Finally, I asked whether there was a problem. They then gestured to a messy handwritten ledger and told me that that they were only sent a booking for one of the rooms from booking.com. They then continued on discussing the matter together without pausing to offer a solution or even a proper apology. Then we decided to leave and only when I returned a few minutes later to make sure that I would not be charged they apologized for their mix-up and offered to put something down in the other room so that five of us could fit in. However, he wanted more money then the room was going to cost us in the first place which I thought was ridiculous. Overall, the staff couldn't have cared less, they did not even offer any alternative hostels which we could try. I would not recommend this hostel to anyone.

Review 35:very small room for a family with 3 adults light in the bathroom goes out while taking a shower cool reception, cold atmosphere

Review 36:Everything perfect for one short night, was easy to find by car + plenty of parking!

Review 37:The rooms were quite small, there was very little space around the beds.

Review 38:Having an en suite bathroom Ease of check in and check out

Review 39:Could have done with another mirror.

Review 40:All we needed was a shower & a bed, we got what we wanted. The room was fresh and tidy.

Review 41:Very clean, modern, functional

Review 42:Triple room had to share a bed. Deceiving pictures on website. Overpriced. Staff barged in before check out

Review 43:Leaving

Review 44:Too noisy

Review 45:The bed was comfortable I loved it.

Review 46:No hangers or drawers for clothes (they are coming they say). Bit expensive as provides no breakfast.

Review 47:Clean. fresh room; excellent ambiance. Lovely staff. 5 minutes to train station, 15 minutes to city centre. Highly recommended

Review 48:Quite small room with a bunk bed in the middle, no hanger for the clothes, tiny shower.

Review 49:Good location to the train station, friendly and helpful personal, nice design. Best variant to stay for a night.

Review 50:The hostel was new, clean with excelent deco. The common rooms (kitchen and dinner) had all bran new furniture with all you need for cooking and socializing with the other guests. Also, the staff are very nice and helpfull. The owners thought about energy efficiency from the tap to the lights and the individual heatting of the rooms ( you can set your on temperature or switch it off if you like). The only thing I missed was a side lide beside the bed ´cos I love reading a bit at night time. Also the matresses were a bit hard for my own personal taste. Well done guys!!! We have a new, lovely hostel in Cork city centre!!!!

Review 51:Qiute expensive They don't serve breakfast

Review 52:The location is very close to the train station Spotless, friendly staff

Review 53:nothing. the place is brilliant

Review 54:Friendly staff, lovely room, quiet location, pool table, adorable little dog.
