Reviews for Taychreggan Hotel
Review 1:We felt that the heating could have been better timed. They had not put our room radiator on for our arrival which meant it took some time to heat up. Ours was a winter visit. Also the lounge heating seemed to be put on later in the day so if you fancy a day in reading you will need to ask them to put on the fire / radiator. Pity.
Review 2:Lakeside views; no passing traffic noise whatsoever as the Hotel is at the end of the road. We had the dinner one evening of our stay which was delightful. The portions are not large but you will not be hungry after. Loved the breakfasts!
Review 3:Evening meals were very small portions for the cost. Ridiculous actually. Let the experience down. Not much choice. Breakfast was better.
Review 4:Quiet location on the Loch. Lovely room and views.
Review 5:Way too far from the main road which restricted choice (meals, bars etc). A good 10-15 minutes along a windy and narrow road! Tired when we eventually got there! The meals and drinks are very expensive and the choice of food very restricted. Found the meals expensive for what you get (middle of the plate only). The staff did not really show any real interest in us. There were empty bedrooms with views to the Loch yet we were given a rear view. The rooms with the views had their doors wide open to show off the views but they were a lot more expensive. With the hotel being so empty, a free upgrade would have done them (and us!) the world of good. As I said, they were not really interested. Paid the bill and there wasn't even a 'hope you enjoyed your stay and come back'. In fact not even a 'Thank you'! Wouldn't recommend it.
Review 6:it was peaceful and a lovely setting
Review 7:Understaffed especially at breakfast. Little choice on the food front and restaurant was expensive. Ran out of food at breakfast.
Review 8:Secluded location with great lounge overlooking the loch. Felt homely and peaceful.
Review 9:Since last visit about 15 years ago the overall hotel appearance was not as it was before and would quite some maintenance/attention.
Review 10:Nice staff and very comfortable bed
Review 11:We knew it was isolated so that wasn't a problem. You could only walk up the road or the Hill without taking the car. We thought that £50 was a bit pricey for a no choice 5 course meal, but it was delicious. On the Saturday night we weren't given the choice of the bar menu.
Review 12:Peace and quiet
Review 13:Single track road to hotel a bit nerve wrecking. But worth it once you reach the end. Spent a lot of time waiting for service in bar in the evenings.
Review 14:Very welcoming staff, room clean and comfortable. Lovely breakfast.
Review 15:we had a lovely time but some of the areas of the hotel are looking in need of a bit of TLC. eg polyfilla and paint particularly the dining room where a dinner will cost £50 for 5 course set menu. The décor needs to be perfect at these prices
Review 16:very comfortable lovely situation very helpful staff, room lovely
Review 17:Not so much a bad experience but whilst excellent, the evening menu was way over priced for us @ £50 per head. We ended up driving into Oban for reasonably priced supper.
Review 18:The peace and quiet. Luxurious surroundings in idyllic location, far from the madding crowd. The breakfasts were excellent!
Review 19:The only thing I would say is that the room we were in could do with decorating and never a good idea to wallpaper a bathroorm, but it was clean and very spacious would not put us off staying here again.
Review 20:The hotel in general. Great dinner.
Review 21:The only thing that let the stay down a little was during a three night stay the room was only serviced once and then only partially.
Review 22:The location is idyllic and the staff most welcoming. For peace and quiet I haven't found better. And the views along Loch Awe are breathtaking.
Review 23:Although the food was excellent I felt the 5 course tasting menu was more suited for a Michelin star restaurant. I would have preferred more choice of food and less amount of courses!!
Review 24:The room and the view was excellent. The staff were also excellent and a credit to whoever had trained them.
Review 25:It really needs some maintenance done on the place. It has so much potential but just looks tatty and tired.
Review 26:The location is beautiful and the food is great.average
Review 27:Hotel outside needing "face lift".Supper in bar overpriced and only one choice-"take it or leave it" otherwise you had to take 5 course dinner at £50 per head.Wine small glass,£9 and £10.Breakfast, terrible service, asked for menu-still waiting..Had to ask for juice and milk, and no glasses on cereal table.Waited 15 mns for tea and toast that had never seen the toaster. We had had enough by that time and left.Table next to us did the same.
Review 28:Lovely situation, nice room,comfy bed,clean.
Review 29:Lack of menu choice when eating in the bar. The shower/bath taps in-correctly plumbed in room 9.
Review 30:Peace and tranquillity of the location and able to walk dogs without worry of traffic.
Review 31:There was confusion over the administration of our booking which.
Review 32:Staff were excellent. We had a medical emergency during our stay and the staff couldn't have been more helpful.
Review 33:Very poor WiFi, lots of non native staff, given the location I would have expected more Scottish born. We visited Scotland because of the heritage and culture. Staff were however friendly and helpful. Location was great if isolated from a main highway by a 15 min drive competing with logging trucks down a single track road.
Review 34:Scenery & Jock the Peacock
Review 35:Only half updated.groung floor needs revamp. Very poor access from the rear car park past laundry and loos. No signs to reception which is at the front end where signs tell you NOT to park. 5 course dinner, NO choices and minute portions. 2 we couldn't eat and £50 without wine pp.so bad we had a sandwich in our room next night.nowhere else to go anywhere nearby.
Review 36:Friendly and helpful staff Position on Loch Awe
Review 37:We did not appreciate the lack of WiFi in the bedrooms although the common areas are very nice. The price of the meals in the restaurant/pub are very dear. A more average priced pub menu would be desirable.
Review 38:The location was great for kayaking with a safe place to leave the boat while touring the area.
Review 39:Another guest parked his massive 4x4 between the restaurant and the loch, obscuring the view from the big picture windows for all the diners. Despite complaints from us and others it wasn't moved which rather ruined the 50 quid a head dinner...and it was still there at breakfast!
Review 40:Stunning location right on Loch Awe and a beautiful old building. The staff were friendly and dinner was lovely, though a bit pricey. Sherry in the bedroom was a nice touch.
Review 41:Shower could have stronger flow and be more easily operated. Tea/coffee at breakfast was luke-warm. Un-notified road-works on minor access road meant that we had a 1hr delay getting to the hotel.
Review 42:Quiet, excellent view, warm comfortable.
Review 43:The decor in the bedrooms could do with modernising
Review 44:Being so close to the Loch was lovely although the weather was bad got some nice photos. Reception areas beautiful, bedroom quite dated but exceptionally comfy bed (soft) & quality furniture
Review 45:Not much - room didn't have shower but bath fine for 2 nights. Cold tea and slow service on second morning was I think a one off and totally out of character. Approach lane a long 7 miles. Only real issue was lack of walks around loch close to hotel.
Review 46:Beautiful views over lake from dining room. Friendly staff and excellent food. Lovely old world cottage charm yet very comfortable and sherry in room nice touch. Breakfast was excellent especially black pudding which I usually don't like.
Review 47:The lack of choice of food on the dinner menu, and very expensive. What food we did have was good
Review 48:The staff were very helpful, and the location was excellent!
Review 49:The location, food and ambience of the hotel was excellent. The staff were friendly, well informed and very helpful. We will certainly return in the future.
Review 50:Not really good for a long stay and touring as it's 7 miles back to the main road before starting out on a journey anywhere.
Review 51:The setting on the loch was beautiful.Loved the room which was comfy and traditional.Staff friendly and helpful.
Review 52:£9 for a glass of wine was a bit steep and didn't have a great selection at the bar but still good.
Review 53:Fantastic hotel, was upgraded to a junior suite which was lovely, although would be quite expensive otherwise. Food was excellent, although a set menu, so may not be suitable for picky eaters.
Review 54:The single track road to the hotel - however it'd worth it!
Review 55:The hotel was very relaxing. Staff were some of the nicest I have ever met. Evening dinner was fantastic!
Review 56:The dinner and bar menu do not match the high standard of the hotel. Choice was so limited on our first night, that after that we had to eat outwith the Hotel, breakfasts were excellent
Review 57:Caring staff and comfort
Review 58:The menu for the evening meal was very limited, which meant we ate out. It would be great if more choice could be offered.
Review 59:The hotel location, rooms and staff were fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they made us feel very welcome.
Review 60:There were a lot of water stained marks on the ceiling in various parts of the building including our room. A bucket was outside our room catching water. The complementary drink in room should be whisky, not sherry!
Review 61:The room was lovely, staff polite and helpful. although twin beds pushed together, didn't expect that. Loved the loch views. Location perfect.
Review 62:Shower temperature difficult to regulate. Car parking was at rear with rear entrance to hotel but one rude client parked at front entrance for at least 2 days and partially obscured peaceful view from dining room looking down the loch.
Review 63:Peacefulness,comfort,good food beautifully cooked and presented in comfortable portion sizes. Clever architecture linking new wing with old and whole hotel tastefully and comfortably furnished. Beautiful loch views.
Review 64:The lack of a mobile phone signal and no Wi-Fi signal, no lift and the shortage of staff. The bar was small and under stocked as in soft drinks and no alcohol free drinks. expensive food.
Review 65:The scenery
Review 66:Some damp obvious on the ceiling in the upstairs corridor. Obviously it's an old building so things like this can happen, but hopefully it's fixed soon as it brings down what is otherwise a fantastic hotel
Review 67:Excellent food, great staff, wonderfully peaceful lochside location and spacious room
Review 68:The location of the hotel by the lochside is magnificent, the room spacious and very comfortable, the ensuite bathroom huge!, and the breakfast first class. In addition, the staff were most welcoming, friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back some time.
Review 69:We only booked for one night and unfortunately the hotel had very few guests, consequently the restaurant was closed and we were offered a bar meal which consisted of one choice of starter and one main course. However I'm sure that with more guests there would be a lot more atmosphere, and our experience shouldn't detract from what is a very nice hotel.
Review 70:Despite being off the beaten track the location was superb right on the loch. There is a nice bar and comfortable lounge and the restaurant overlooks the loch, a wonderful setting.
Review 71:Its a boutique hotel with an amaIng location, overlooking Loch Awe. We just stayed the night as we wanted to break joirney on our way to Isle of Skye. We reached the property at about 7:15 pm, only to be told that the chef had been sent away and there was no dinner! This came as a shock, but we managed something. So make sure you confirm with he hotel about your meal arrangements, as there is nothing around for miles!
Review 72:Its a boutique hotel with an amaIng location, overlooking Loch Awe. The property itself is very tastefully done, and we especially liked the cosy library.
Review 73:Prawns in the prawn cocktail had not had the alimentary veins removed! The shower in my room could have been cleaner.
Review 74:As a guest at this hotel's first wedding reception, I was very impressed with the hotel and it's staff in organising and running the event. Nothing was too much trouble. Very good service.
Review 75:The food was not on the level I was hoping for and used to in this sort of establishment. We were a little bummed.
Review 76:It's a beautiful hotel. The room was very clean and surprisingly big. The staff was very nice. Good wine and cocktail selections.
Review 77:Nothing to dislike.
Review 78:A very relaxing comfortable stay, where nothing was too much trouble, and the staff were excellent. We had B & B - the breakfast was lovely the room delightful.
Review 79:It was described in booking.com as being 23.5 miles from Glencoe which was just on my limit for travelling. It was in fact 55 miles away so I had to change hotels meaning I lost a lot of money and a lot of faith in using booking.com.
Review 80:Staff very helpful. Room comfortable.
Review 81:The only very very tiny down side was the menu/food prices. Unfortunately it was just way too expensive for us to eat every night at the hotel. But I can't fault them for what they charge in another sense because the food is excellent & all sourced locally.
Review 82:Everything was fantastic! The location! The views! The room was beautiful & the bathroom was gorgeous! All the staff were wonderful! Absolutely faultless! & how can you not love Jock the resident Peacock!
Review 83:Everything was 5 star from the lovely, imaginative food, to the impeccable, welcoming, professional staff and the absolutely fantastic location!! We have rarely stayed anywhere that left as good an impression. We shall return!!
Review 84:Dont let the single tract road put you of going.
Review 85:the staff were very friendly and helpfull. The food was very good and we enjoyed the peaceful location. I would stay there again.
Review 86:The owners should undertake the necessary remedial work on the property especially when their staff are delivering such excellent customer service c
Review 87:We loved everything about our stay here and can't wait to return. The food was wonderful and the chef very accommodating to my veggie tastebuds, thank you to the lovely staff especially Emily, Andrew & the Head Chef for making our stay so enjoyable in such a wonderful peaceful location
Review 88:nothing I can think of , it was a bit further away from Inverray than I was expecting (the 8.6 miles on booking.com was as the crow flies,. By road it was about 35 miles, ssome of it on single track road.
Review 89:The views were stunning, the food on the set menu was excellent. It was very relaxing with plenty of space and lounges to relax in.
Review 90:Food expensive but delicious very nice for a special occasion couldn't eat like that every night couldn't afford to either.
Review 91:Good sized room with exceptionally comfortable bed.
Review 92:Wifi could be better in the room but its more than fine downstairs near reception and the hotel has a great lounge to relax in and use the wifi if required.
Review 93:Great staff, room and food. Staff in particular very helpful and friendly. Food was also very good including breakfast, bar meals and also the 5 courser in the restaurant.
Review 94:Meals.set menu so not much different meals from night to night.but couldn't fault the meals
Review 95:Staff were excellent always there to help couldn't fault them one bit.
Review 96:Only a slight niggle, but having been given a premier room with an excellent view this was partially obscured throughout by a coach which was parked in front of the hotel all night.
Review 97:The location; the welcome to us and our dog; the free upgrade to a premier room without our requesting it...
Review 98:Our room was beautifully furnished and comfortable although it didn't have the view of the loch that some of the rooms had. The food was very good, including the breakfast grill. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 99:Some of the building could benefit from more consistent maintenance and fresh decorating.
Review 100:The location was beautiful and the feel of some parts of the building was uplifting. The bathroom was excellent, the bed comfortable, the staff very helpful and friendly and the hotel leaves a little tipple of something in the room, which is a very kind touch (although it is hard to tell what exactly it is!).
Review 101:Spectacular location, beautiful hotel with very professional as well as friendly & helpful staff. Food absolutely outstanding, chef deserves his accolade. Highly recommended for a romantic, luxurious break away from the hustle & bustle of life.
Review 102:We stayed for two nights during a tour of the northern part of the kingdom. A stab in the dark as far as selection was concerned but the hotel/location delivered for us. Fiona and her staff made our stay a thoroughly pleasant experience. The chef excelled himself in varying the daily fixed menu to take care of my wife's egg alergy; the same menu but with variations to suit her needs. When we return to the area we will most likely return to this hotel.
Review 103:The dining options are very limited - the dinner is a set menu 7 courses or so at £45a head, no alternatives, so pretty pricy if you're there a number of nights.
Review 104:Stunning location, very beautiful and relaxing too. Romantic and cosy.
Review 105:There is a long single track road with passing places which is the only access road leading to the hotel.
Review 106:Loved the tranquil location if you want to escape from it all. The food tasted amazing.
Review 107:Wifi only available in the downstairs lounges.
Review 108:Beautiful views, lovely room, staff couldn't be more helpful, great food.
Review 109:Location is superb, room was lovely well appointed and clean Food was first class Staff very welcoming and helpful
Review 110:Very friendly staff and comfortable accommodation with very clean toilet. Food was excellent.
Review 111:The tedious distance from the main road
Review 112:The view from the hotel
Review 113:There was nothing to dislike in any way
Review 114:Staff excellent, facilities superb, position magnificent.
Review 115:really only that the wifi is only in some common areas, not available in the room.
Review 116:great location. calm and peaceful.
Review 117:Beautiful position on Loch Awe.
Review 118:Location, amenities quality, friendliness of staff. In general beautiful place very relaxing stay.
Review 119:Good views across the loch. Helpful staff and a very good dinner.
Review 120:Lack of daytime attending staff
Review 121:Room and food
Review 122:Roomy, comfortable, clean and well appointed rooms, very friendly and accommodating staff. Wonderful position on the loch with lovely loch views.
